The hard shell tacos are possibly the best I’ve ever had.. And I’m a taco freak! Check it out #DMV, you won’t be disappointed.

When I am in the vicinity of Georgia Ave. on the border of DC/Silver Spring and looking for food, I usually head north into Silver Spring or East into Takoma Park. This is not where I might be location-wise… However, it’s a good idea now that I have been here. It’s undergone a name change, so look for Taqueria in the name now. If not for Taheerah and John, I definitely would not have gone here. It’s in the middle of a string of stores that look like they have seen their heydays, and quite a long time ago. Why is this place good? It’s open until 10.00 pm, which is perfect — early enough to not have me worried to get here alone, and late enough to be past dinner but when I know I need more food but don’t want to cook. Also, there is a good amount of seating, but really… I like this place because I can Eat24 order from this place and have the order ready when I arrive. Wow. That’s awesome for those evenings when I haven’t eaten dinner until 9.45 pm… Why else is it good? Real cooking with real ingredients. It’s not 5-stars glamorous haute cuisine… but, it’s fresh, home-style(in my opinion), good cooking. The ingredients for veggie tacos can get boring, but here, it works out just fine. Fresh avocados, pico de gallo, lettuce and beans, pretty good. Restaurant style tortilla chips, yum. Spinach tacos — ok, count me in! Also, if you prefer enchiladas, rice/burrito bowls, or burritos, you’re good. If you ask me to compare this place to my fav go to taquerias, I would not say 4 stars, probably just 3, but, because of the location, this place earns 4 stars for doing what they do in this location. It’s kind of a food desert for me in this part of DC… nothing piques my interest in this area ATALL. This place — I would go back. Again, nothing fancy or hoity toity, but it delivers. Not too greasy, fresh, not a hole in the wall, filling, fair prices, and nice people. Yum.

I finally found Mexican food worthy of being called Mexican food! The tortillas have great flavor. The barbacoa has the right seasoning. The salsas are homemade, fresh and hypnotic. The tacos and tortas just smell like home. Authentic and great price value. Don’t care what Tacoma Park offers as Mexican food, they have nothing on this place. It is genuine!

I went with my coworkers here. The enchiladas were ok, but the re fried beans were good. My coworkers enjoyed their food. I’ll give the restaurant another chance and try something else the next time. Also, the staff was really nice.

The best tacos. The friendliest staff. Salsas so good, they could sell them as a branded business line. We love this place so much, we held our daughter’s birthday party there. They were extremely hospitable, easy to work with, and, most of all, excited to give our wacky idea a go. They would make excellent caterers, in addition to eat in/take out service. I cannot say enough good things about J&J’s.

Great cheap Mexican eats. The ingredients are fresh and the flavors are on point. Good vegetarian options and good meat tacos too.

Food is OK. I’m on the move today and I expected 3 tacos to be made in no time. Oh well; that’s the bricks sometimes. This store is new to the Rittenhouse and Georgia ave shops. Small, clean, and average.

Literally the best Quesadillas I’ve ever had. After the first, I had to order another.

Great tacos, great value. Double corn tortillas for the tacos that are nearly twice the size of places like El Chucho(and I like that place, too). Take only, ordered via Eat24 app

I’ve been to J&J twice. Each time I’ve gotten the chicken burrito bowl, and I can’t imagine ordering anything else because it’s just TOODAMNGOOD. I was a little skeptical of this place since it’s not particularly anything to look at on the outside(or honestly much to look at on the inside). But don’t let that stop you – the food here is GOOD. Service is always friendly and accommodating. Food is delicious – amazing pulled chicken, fresh veggies. My boyfriend’s gotten the fish and he says it’s alright but not amazing. He usually finishes my burrito bowl(they give you so much food!) and he’s usually jealous of not ordering the chicken. I love this place, and planning to go many more times in the future!

This little place is legit. It looks like a dive and it is surrounded by actual dives with greasy, mediocre food, but don’t be discouraged. The food is great(and vegetarian friendly!), but the prices are what got us in here the first time. We discovered this place maybe a week ago and my roommate has already gone three times. She can get a black bean burrito(veg) with fresh avocado on top for like $ 5 – 6. I’ve had the chicken tacos and the cajun fries. Chicken tacos were yummy and came with salsa verde. I was a bit thrown off when I opened them up to see lettuce and cheese toppings since I’d seen photos on here of true street tacos, but everything else about them said street food. I will be eating here often if I have the craving for carryout!

Adding another five stars for the breakfast burrito! Lord have mercy, it is good. A huge burrito filled with home fries, black beans, sausage, eggs, onions and peppers. Seriously, this place is worth the collective ten stars I’ve given it.

Really good chicken tacos — fresh tasting, not greasy. Yummy green salsa — the burritos are substantial — the prices are good. Love the tortillas. Haven’t gotten anything delivered, but the takeout is quick and organized.

We have finally found a good Mexican food joint in our neighborhood! Authentic food at reasonable prices — $ 5 for a burrito. Their salsa is a tad spicy with great flavor, even their homemade mac ‘n cheese is great. Can’t wait to go back and try out a breakfast burrito. J&J will definitely be our go to take-out place when I’m not up for cooking.

Stopped by here on my way to a work meeting. Got three tacos — chicken, pork, and marinated pork. All three were very good & traditional type of tacos rather than the tex-mex type. Would definitely stop by here again and try one of their platters as some other customers had some good looking taco or burrito platter.

Had a taco craving today, which usually ends in huge disappointment here in DC. Why are we so good at some foods but fail at others? Anyway, we thought J&J might be decent enough. We got a steak quesadilla, tacos al pastor, chorizo taco and a fish taco. Omg, everything was amazing. The meat in the quesadilla was great and the sides were delicious. Loved all the tacos, with the chorizo being my favorite. One of the best parts of the meal was their spicy white sauce. It was some sort of jalapeño crema with secret herbs in there. It was so damn good. Go support this place. Cheap, delicious and definitely the best tacos I’ve had in DC. Great service to boot and a big vegetarian menu for the meat-abstainer in your life. Can’t wait to go back.

L-E-G-I-T! I may not be in Boyle Heights, but damn if I don’t feel some taco love. The taconologists here are on their home style game. Treat your self to the tender Barbacoa, a slow cooked beef taco marinated with spices like bay leaf. Also the carnitas are tender and succulent perfection. The tortillas are lightly grilled, and that’s a game changer! They are open till ten and do Delivery. The salsas are so GOOD. Omg just go already!

I was walking to get lunch at another place, and I saw the sign for a vegetarian burrito, and it wasn’t expensive. As many times as I walk pass this place, I never noticed it until yesterday. When I walked in, I noticed that the place had minimal decorations, and it was typical carryout with a few tables and chairs. The cashier was very pleasant, and the few customers who were there were lively, but not in a bad way. I was able to see that the customers were regulars. It was like everyone was family. Even the two cooks were sweethearts. There were lots of vegetarian items on the menu including spinach taco Usually, I would have to ask the cashiers or cooks to make me a veggie taco, and if there was a language barrier, then I would be «out-of-luck». Well, it wasn’t the case here. I was able to order anything in a vegetarian version including the sandwich. The gentlemen before order chicken nachos. They looked tasty, so I ordered veggie nachos with guacamole, which wasn’t extra like some places. YAY!!! I am in love already! I was doing a «to-go» order, but the cashier warned me that the nachos can get a little soggy, so I stayed and ate it there. Everything was nice and fresh, The nachos were crispy like I like them, and the guacamole was great. I will definitely make this my spot especially when I have long hours at work.

I don’t know what else I’d get for lunch in this area, but here’s something decent. It’s just cheap carryout, but as such places go, they’ve got some nice vegetarian options. You can customize what you want on a sandwich, and you’ve got a decent variety of other choices. Between the beans in my burrito and the avocado in my sandwich, I got two meals for somewhere around $ 10. Basic flavors, but certainly good enough at that price. Not only to they take Eat24 orders, but they have a sign for where you pick them up, and they were quite thorough in making sure I had sauces and such. It seemed like a 3.5 star place to me, but what the heck.

I’ve been here a couple of times since it’s opened and have enjoyed it every time. It’s good, authentic food at an affordable price. I had the torta and really enjoyed it and have had a sampling of all their tacos. The chorizo and fish tacos really stood out. I’ll be back again and I hope this place sticks around for a long time.
