Labyrinth Games & Puzzles

Labyrinth is exactly what a little community game store should be; they’ve earned their place of the Mecca of D.C.‘s game-​nerd community. The staff from the owner on down are all very knowledgable about the games, welcoming, and care about making sure it’s a comfortable place to play for everyone. The only quibble I could argue is that their events can get absolutely *packed*, which isn’t at all surprising for a smallish store with a large following. But if you’re looking to buy games, this should be your first stop.

This is a superb hobby/​games store with tons of board games and card gaming supplies stocked full on all the shelves. I only come to play magic the gathering. The only downside is that it can get crowded on friday nights.
The staff is always friendly and willing to help you with game recommendations.

One of my favorite places in the area. The staff know how to recommend a game. Get there as early as possible on Thursday game nights because it gets pretty packed.

This place is a game lover’s paradise. They have everything from settler’s to games for kids to wooden logic puzzles. In addition to being a great place to find any game you could need, they have many awesome community events. Definitely a highlight of a day in Eastern Market and an important part of our community.

Woah, I could have sworn I already wrote a 5 star review for Labyrinth! This is great shop has been providing me with great gifts and game night supplies for years now! Definitely not a place to get the mainstream boardgames, but the best place to find a gift for the game lover in your life. From puzzles, card games, to board games that will take hours to play and make you lose at one least friend, this place has it all! Even an extensive section of children’s options.
The staff has always been helpful, sometimes even to the point of explaining the full rules to a game you’re holding in your hands, but I’ll take that over a cold mass retailer any day. I’m glad this store exists and is always getting fun new items in stock!

Labyrinth is an oasis of much-​needed fun on Capitol Hill. The staff are friendly and incredibly knowledgable. I’ve always been impressed with their recommendations whether looking for a gift for a friend, a game for a toddler or something for myself.
I have only once taken advantage of the play space, but it was great. They have what must be a few hundred open games to try out. It seems like they have events some weeknights and weekends, but I’m sure if you’re itching to try before you buy the staff can let you know when a good time would be.
Labyrinth is also family friendly. I feel like most places that sell complex board games and other implements of nerdery have a reputation of being creepy adults-​only. This place is the opposite! They even have a little table for kids with a few games for them to try.
I can’t recommend Labyrinth more highly.

I only recently discovered Labyrinth (within the last year), but my experience has been nothing short of outstanding. First and foremost, the staff feels like an inviting family. I love going into the shop and immediately feeling the friendly, warm, welcoming environment. Their recent Washingcon was an extension of this as well.
In addition, I am consistently amazed at their massive selection. I have never found a shop even close (my only real comparison is Comic and Gaming, but even this is massively dwarfed by Labyrinth). Their in-​depth and hands on knowledge of the games and personal reviews are incredibly helpful. They obviously care about their wares as well as games in general and give their honest opinion on whether a specific customer may or may not like a particular game.

I’ve been going to Labyrinth for years. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, their selection is excellent. They have a huge collection of demo copies of their games, so if you’re not sure about a purchase you can often play it before deciding. If they don’t have the game you’re looking for, they’ll generally order it for you and slap a discount on.
Beyond being an excellent retail store, the owner is passionate about community involvement, working with a dozen neighboring elementary and middle schools with a program designed to develop social and cognitive skills through board games.
I live out in Frederick, MD, more than an hour away, there are at least 4 or 5 similar stores much closer to me. I pass them by to make a trip out to Labyrinth every chance I get.

Easily the best Hobby Game store around! They even have super awesome volunteers that are ready to answer your questions.

Ive never needed a game and they didnt have it. The game Cards against Humanity is a hard find. But guess who had it. Kudos

I love the store, they have almost every game possible in it and if they don’t you can order it and quite often get a discount off the listed price with them.
Most of the staff is quite helpful and will listen to what type of games you like to play and what type of games you don’t like, and give you recommendations that really are spot on.
Yes, sometimes the games are a little bit more expensive than what you might pay on Amazon but if you need something right then right now it’s really worth paying that little extra. And you are supporting a local business which is it a good thing.
They also run Gaming demos to show you how to play certain games and they have tournaments. I highly recommend the store for any new gamer and also in a long time gamer.

I won the riddle ! Be advised, gamers, before walking in, there is a riddle or two outside the shop and if you answer correctly, you win a prize. I won the prize!!! I was pumped. Then continued walking thru the building and my goodness do they have a lot of games. I must give the staff a to of credit. These guys know their games and know good things to recommend. There is a little social area in the back where you can play community games, or play a game you just purchase. Its a really cute place !

Last night, I went to labyrinth for game night, and we found a bunch of gamers sharing their love for games. I sat down with my friend Annette, and we joined a couple of people playing a board game called Puerto Rico. Now most people would give up playing a game before learning the rules, but we persevered and the game was super fun! I won, but everyone had fun at labyrinth, so everyone is a winner. Now I bought a deck of playing cards for $ 4, and it was worth getting a souvenir of Washington’s scenic points. I also solved the riddles on the sandwich board outside and got a prize. Friendly store, friendly staff, five stars!

There’s a real shortage of well-​run stores that cater specifically to dorky hobbies. Places like Labyrinth restore my belief that it’s possible for it to happen. This place is clean, well-​stocked, and organized sensibly. That said, as is often the case, the staff are what make this place amazing.
I’ve been twice in two days (they’re that awesome). The guy who helped me both times (whose name I never caught, unfortunately) was knowledgeable, helpful and enthusiastic, almost-​singlehanded my turning me into a repeat customer. Honestly one of the best game store experiences I’ve ever had.

This is a great store to browse in. We were trying to waste some time, and this is just the place to do it.

They have a wide selection of games you can play in the back with several tables. I would guess that they host tournaments here sometimes.
I saw games here that I have never seen before. It was almost like a learning experience in and of itself.
I did take away one star because the prices are not cheap. I liked looking around, but if I saw something I liked, I would probably just find it on Amazon for cheaper.

For product selection and customer service, you can’t ask for much more from a board game and puzzle store. Labyrinth is the total package.
They pull off the feat of stocking games, puzzles, and diversions for a wide range of audiences and tastes– for anyone from kids to teens to adults, and for those interested in anything from brain teasers you can play on the john to party games to all-​out day-​eating strategy games– while also stocking a lot of different options within each category. And they stock game accessories, expansion card packs, etc. out the wazoo.
Labyrinth is a great place to shop if you’re at all interested in tabletop gaming or puzzles, or if you’re gift-​shopping for a friend of that persuasion.
What’s more, Labyrinth’s staff really knows their games. I went there looking for an out-​of-​print game (Betrayal at House on the Hill) and although they didn’t have it in stock (the game being out-​of-​print and all), they offered to put me on a notification list for the next time they get the game in stock and talked me through a half-​dozen other games similar to the one I was looking for. The kind of helpful, informed, and friendly service at Labyrinth is the kind of customer service that all businesses should aspire to.
They also have several gaming events and tournaments. It seems that every time I walk in, there’s some card game tournament going on in the back. Good times for young and old alike!

Great game store with a very friendly staff.
I went to the store on Christmas Eve Day when I was visiting my wife’s family for the holidays. As one might imagine, it was somewhat crowded and the clientele were largely people looking for a last minute gift either for a child or a teen/​adult who is «into games.»
Given that the store largely stocks indie and Euro games, the staff did a great job of trying to work with these customers to help them pick out what might be a good gift. When I had a few questions and it was clear that I’m into board games, they happily chatted with me about what they liked and had pretty in-​depth discussions about game mechanics. When someone not as familiar with board games asked them to help find a gift, the easily switched gears and helped the customers without overloading them with gaming jargon and references.
The selection was good, I picked up a few games by local companies that my friends back home hadn’t heard of. Will definitely return next time I am in town.

The staff know their games and are super helpful. I came with a specific question and referred to a multiplayer game that I loved and asked about two-​person games that were similar. I could not be happier with the recommendation.
The selection is huge and they carry just about every expansion that I could think of. They cover a variety of euro games, puzzle games, classic games (like monopoly, clue) and some games from Asia (Go, some Japanese resource games). The store also has a large table area in the back for parties and events.
The store definitely has a community feel to it and I saw signs for events for kids and adults alike.

This place is excellent in breaking down the stereotypes about people who love games. Your generic impression of gamers is that they’re anti-​social teenagers living in their parents basement. Wrong. They’re young professionals that love to gather at here at night to socialize and play games with others who have similar interests.
Aside from that, they have an excellent selection at reasonable prices. I don’t have children, but if I did, I’d bring them here. They’re all about encouraging puzzles and games as a means of educational enrichment.
You could probably find some of their items online for cheaper, but they’re a great local business to support. They’re also very convenient, a block away from Eastern Market Station, so you can drop by after work to pick a game up instead of waiting for Amazon to ship it.
