Lindy’s Bon Apetit

It’s like the other reviewers said it is a hole in the wall. If u not looking for it I won’t see it and you won’t be missing much. I told them to give me the best burger they have. First it’s on a sub roll which I don’t like. The burger was juicy but had 0 flavor and the fries as well. The only reason I stopped there was I was next door at captain cookie. I don’t think I’ll be returning.

I work at GW and frequent most of the surrounding establishments. Popped in for a grilled cheese and tomato soup and left disappointed. The grilled cheese was good (but it’s pretty hard to mess that up), but the soup was AWFUL. I mean unbearably bad. The crackers were stale as well. I wouldn’t mind getting the grilled cheese again if the place itself wasn’t so grimy. I would recommend trying a different place if you’re not getting one of these famed burgers people are mentioning.

Lindy’s Bön Apetit isn’t the cleanest looking of spots. This is your quintessential hole-​in-​the-​wall place. It is not a big venue, but if you’re hungry and looking for something basic and not too picky. Lindy’s Bön Apetit is the takeout segment of Lindy’s Red Lion and the burgers are pretty good. I always get the turkey burger with guacamole, and the fries are good. I knocked off two stars for overall appearance and cleanliness of the place.

Quite simply, good good burgers!

The Bön Apetit is my favorite restaurant in D.C. They have great burgers, the chicken, pearl harbor is spectacular and the woman who works behind the counter is always friendly. If I could I would eat there everyday!

Lindy’s is my favorite take-​out lunch spot. The space isn’t much to look at but the food is great! Lots of selection, and you can call ahead so your order will be waiting when you get there. The guys at the register are cool and they don’t mind alterations (like no onions, more tomato, etc). I used to get a Cordon Blu burger and fries all the time, till I tried their Gyros… So, so good I think about it on days I’m not at work. Lunch with fries and a drink will run around $ 10.

There’s barely any place to stand inside, but you’re just there to get your order to go. The burgers are a bit greasy and it’s a bit of a wait even when there’s no one there. I stopped in for a raspberry lemonade and that still took a while. Prices are good, not great, but the selection is vast and there really isn’t something like this around Foggy Bottom.

Hole in the wall burger place for sure. If you feel like getting an artery clogger come here. They have over 30 burgers to choose from, including specials listed behind the cashier. I do want to head back and try some more burgers since they sound so interesting, but the two I have had were not too impressive. I had a Freak burger which is a burger with a crabcake on it and it was kinda weird tasting putting those two together. I also tried one with garlic mashed potatoes on it which was good, except the burger itself was extremely bland. The price can be a little high too given that the burgers are smaller than a standard restaurant place, around $ 7 or more for one.

Among the best burgers in dc, with a great beer selection. They have a whole menu of different hamburgers (topping combinations). The place is small and cramped, but it’s worth the wait.
I’ve also had the breakfast special which is pretty tasty.

Anytime you have the opportunity to add a bit of fried appetizers to a midnight birthday celebration, I say go for it! Lindy’s may not soar above and beyond my expectations of mozzarella sticks, but their onion rings are the first that I’ve been able to bite through without pulling out the onion. It was perfection. And the buffalo bites were fantabulously well coated. But when you go to Lindy’s, it’s all about the burgers, and as a man who enjoys his variety, I always try the mini-​burgers so that I can choose for of their unique approaches to the American burger. I’m looking forward to trying almost all of them, but for now I at least have a decent number checked off with great satisfaction.

Their food is freaking disgusting. I went here with a friend on a recommendation from a GW co-​worker, it was awful. Low-​grade ingredients, bad service, and same prices as anywhere else for lunch. Maybe its a fun bar at night and that is where the love comes from, but you can eat anywhere, and I mean ANYWHERE, in Foggy Bottom and it will be better than this place.

Siamese burger? I was wary about coming back here but I’d been chasing a burger for 20 blocks. The guy standing outside did his job of pulling me in (okay, I was headed in. He was in my way) and followed me in to take my order. The grease in this hole was the same but the menu had changed in the five years since my last visit. I ordered a double burger with provolone, tomato and onions. Nothing else. I watched a blurry TV, educating myself on gang verbiage, while I waited. Ten minutes later, I got my burger.
My burgers were on a sub roll so more like a Siamese burger. The meat was not great but certainly better than I expected, or remembered. And just as I remember, Lindy herself, came out and sat on her perch. Ay captain, some things never change.

I feel the need to defend this place, because it is delicious if you don’t want a high-​falootin veggie burger or whatever other hipster delicacy you might be expecting. If you just want a great burger slathered with chili and bacon, then this is the place. Otherwise don’t bother.

I went here, once, years ago and didn’t like it. I decided to give it another shot today, unfortunately…
The place smells overwhelmingly like burnt grease.
I ordered a regular veggie burger w/​cheese. First of all, they charge 50 cents extra for veggie instead of beef. WTF? Second, it was not that great. It had also been microwaved too long, and the bottom part of the bun had a chunk missing from it– either someone took a bite out of it, or it was torn, or a rat nibbled on it. The veggie burger at Burger King is better than this one. I also ordered jalapeño poppers. Oh man, big mistake. They weren’t that bad, but they weren’t that good either. They were definitely not homemade. My friend had the Texas catter-​something burger with hot peppers in it. He said it sucked, and he is a connoisseur of burgers. We shared some onion rings too. They weren’t that bad, albeit dripping with grease. (For some AWESOME onion rings, go to Whitlow’s on Wilson.) The «ranch» dipping sauce for the rings was incredibly disgusting. So we tried the ketchup. The ketchup they gave us is the cheapest ketchup one could possibly buy. It is so nasty it tastes like tomato jam. Our order came up to $ 22. WTF!!!
All in all, a BAD experience, except for the very nice man who took our order. The people who gave this place high ratings must have been drunk, is all I can think of.

CALL AT LEAST 15 MINUTES AHEAD!
If you do, you’re in for some great, great food. Reading Tina’s review, I can understand where she’s coming from, but I was also pretty shocked by the food selections made. If you’re looking for something that isn’t greasy, you’re making a grave mistake. With 26 (or more) burgers to choose from, good fries, mozzerella sticks, and onion rings, this place makes some spectacular food. I’m a big fan of the Monterrey (refried beans, onions, cheese), Gyro (lettuce, tomato, yogurt sauce), Davy Crockett (barbecue sauce, cheese, lettuce, bacon, tomato), and Carnegie (corned beef, russian dressing, swiss cheese, sauerkraut) burgers, and the Buffalo Bill sandwich.
In the last year or so, the service has gotten slow to the point of painful, so if you’re going to just walk in during peak lunch or dinner time, you’re going to wait a good half hour. Call ahead, pick up, and enjoy.
If you’ve got time, head upstairs to the Red Lion, you’re going to wait awhile, but it’s just a great place for a couple of pitchers and great burgers.

Crap food, long wait.
My friends David, Mahogany G. and I went to lunch today at Lindy’s. Our friend Yunji always orders from there at least twice a week (burger with avocado + onion rings) and inhales her food each time in under 15 minutes, so we went with high expectations. We were sad to discover that Yunji actually just has bad taste (ha!) in food.
First of all, I was surprised to discover that Lindy’s was actually split into two separate establishments: Lindy’s Red Lion = bar + sit down restaurant, Lindy’s Bön Apetit = takeout area in the basement of Red Lion. Bön Apetit is tiny, crowded, and messy. The ancient cash register is manned by an older woman who scribbles all the orders on receipt paper by hand. A cash register that isn’t pre-​programmed with food selections + prices? What is this, the Dark Ages? Another surprising discovery was that the cashier doesn’t ring up any orders until the food comes out. So because I ordered 3 different items that each came out of the kitchen at different rates, I had to go up to the register 3 separate times to pay for my food. All told, I waited nearly 30 minutes for nachos, spicy fries, and a small greek salad with dressing on the side. David’s burger took even longer. As an economist/​lawyer-​to-​be, the inefficiency of the whole system enrages me. At least they had a credit card machine.
Anyway, the food was not worth the wait at all. My nachos were terrible: too-​salty movie theater-​style circular tortilla chips with processed cheese sauce, pre-​packaged guacamole, watery sour cream, and some sort of canned chili. Blech. Mahogany G’s «spicy fries» were actually unseasoned normal fries with a few squirts of buffalo sauce. Her greek salad was equally bland, with canned olives, feta cheese, and strangely, jalepenos. The tastiest item ordered was my can of Diet Coke (mmmm, sucralose). David didn’t complain about his burger, but I don’t even care if it tasted good, because everything else about this place sucked and I’m never going back. AND, I’m never listening to Yunji again.

UPDATE: Mahogany G. apparently threw up the last time she ate one of Yunji’s onion rings. What exactly does this place do right?

Burgers and Fries but don’t forget to try the Burl Ives.
Lindy’s Bön Apetit is the basement takeout spot under Lindy’s Red Lion. The have an extensive burger menu with chicken and hotdogs an option too. The Arkansas Traveller named after Clinton is a decent grilled chicken breast sandwich with a tangy BBQ sauce to go along with the juicy breast. The burgers are the main draw. They are cooked up fresh and the menu is extensive with many combos of hooking the ground patties up with.
The one sandwich that stands above the rest for it is truly a meat fiesta is the Burl Ives. Served up on a hoagie roll this protein powered sub has two beef patties nestled between a split jumbo hot dog. It’s a backyard barbeque that you can eat with one hand.
