Logan 14 AVEDA Salon Spa

I attempted to purchase products from this store several times. I love AVEDA products, but this place is a hectic zoo and the sales staff was quite rude. I will be purchasing my products on line in the future (AVEDA offers free shipping). The stylists and technicians at this location may be top notch, but I will never give this place my business again.

I live next door to Logan 14 and came in this morning freaking out from a bad haircut I got at another local salon (a request for a shoulder-​length «long bob» came out as a chin-​length hatchet job that I hated.) Jessica graciously squeezed me in, put a ton of natural-​looking extensions in my hair, cut to hide the old bob, and then gave it texture with a curling iron. The results were incredible and I was incredibly grateful for her professionalism and good energy.

I have never written a Unilocal review before, but after today, I’m compelled to.
I just moved to the area and needed a good waxer. I lived here years ago and went to the Annapolis Aveda, and always was impressed by how relaxing their studio was and how pleasant they made waxing.
I found Logan 14 and thought I’d give it a shot. I wish I could take that decision back.
When I arrived, the studio was loud, busy and anything but peaceful. I arrived early, and apparently my waxer was looking for her appt. before me. When she couldn’t find her, the staff hastily said I could go early.
What kind of reputable waxing salon does not use hard wax??? This was like grocery store quality soft wax. When I talked to her about the benefits of hard wax, all she kept asking was «but that takes too long, right?» That was the beginning of her mad rush to groom me in record time…
She nearly murdered my private bits by slabbing on a large spoon of wax, then mercilessly ripping it off. I know what you’re thinking… That I must have a low pain tolerance and don’t understand the art of Brazilian waxes. Not the case, I’ve been through dozens in my life, all of the world.
The waxer knew she was hurting me, and tried to reassure me. After sizing up the work she did on my nether region, she asked me if I bruise easily.
I just made it home, and after inspection, I am bruised beyond belief down there. I literally am in tears because I am seeing my husband for the first time in months (military) and that’s what I have going on.
Please, do yourself a favor and go to a studio that uses quality products and takes their time. For $ 75, you damn well deserve to not feel this way.

My Aveda experience was AMAZING! Here’s the story:
I’d been faithful to a stylist in NYC for 10 years, and I moved to DC 2 ½ years ago. I held out on finding a replacement stylist thinking it would be a hopeless venture, but my roots were so bad (almost an unintentional ombré) that I grasped at a balayage (my 1^st!) appt at a pricey place further up 14^th back in December at the recommendation of a client. Terrible! The people were nice but I had to go back twice and the whole thing ended up with me too blonde and super brassy, and it cost me WAY too much money for how bad the color was.
I actually used the Aveda Blue Malva shampoo to get the brassiness out (that stuff rocks!) and I was ready to give balayage another go at a different place a few weeks ago (5+ months after initial balayage debacle). So I booked a consultation and then a cut and color with Michael G. He blew me away! SIX stars for Michael G in particular! I got a perfect cut, perfectly colored. He understood exactly what I was looking for and I couldn’t be happier!!! Gava was great too — she even comp’d me a hand massage because of a slight delay! I know my color will last me 5 months of looking great, which fits the budget constraints I’d told Michael G about. It’s a perfect «brightening» that still looks natural. I feel amazing and I get a ton of compliments. Perfect, perfect experience.
If you’re like me and are borderline paranoid about getting too much color or too avant-​garde of a cut, and are looking for someone who can totally «get» what you’re going for Michael G. is your man. 100%!!
Seriously. Best new hair experience in over a decade. For as long as I continue to live in DC, I will not be seeing anyone else.

Juan Perez is one of DC’s top colorists. I see him once or twice a year for subtle sombre color and he blends the colors so perfectly and seamlessly each time. I am usually stopped on the street many times and asked who does my color. He can do any look I ask for and tailors the cut and color to my preference and face shape. I always leave his chair feeling very cute and the color grows out flawlessly.

I am a hair salon commitment phobe. I never plan appointments in advance so I always end up walking into one when the mood strikes me to actually get a haircut. I’ve been wanting to go from brunette to blonde for a while now, but have been too nervous to just walk in anywhere. I asked a good friend who also went from brunette to blonde last year, and she recommended Krista at Logan 14.
First, I want to point out that whoever I spoke with on the phone to my book my appointment was wonderful. I think his name was Patrick? Patrick was super nice and asked all the right questions about my hair and what I wanted out of the appointment. I appreciated him being thorough and answering all my questions as well. They did ask for a credit card on hold in case I cancel less than 24 hours in advance, I would be charged 50% of the total estimate. Of course I asked what the total estimate was just so I knew in advance — just in case. I felt good knowing what I was walking into and all the policies for cancellation, etc. up front.
Krista is AMAZING. I showed her a photo of how I wanted my blonde to look, and she told me that example is from multiple highlight jobs. So while my hair wouldn’t look like that, we could definitely make me blonde (and if I kept coming back it would eventually look like it). She gave me a cut with a lot of layering, and the overall highlights looked natural but definitely the blonde I was going for. When she first started cutting my hair, she noticed a spot on the back of my head that hadn’t been totally rinsed out. So we went back to the washer and she scrubbed it out. I appreciated that she took the time to fix something I definitely would not have noticed. Above and beyond all that, she was really easy to talk to. Everyone at the salon was friendly, and I felt really comfortable sitting there for a couple hours.
Last notes — for parking, don’t try and attempt street parking like I first did. It took way too long so I ended up parking in the lot across from Whole Foods. Its $ 22 for more than an hour, which is ABSURD, but then you don’t have to run out and check a meter etc.
For tips — bring cash as they do not let you add it on to the card payment.

That sounds awesome right?! My old ass feet could use this!
Here’s what I got:
–A rushed greeting. They asked if I wanted tea or water, and I said «tea». Then the woman behind the counter pours a glass of cucumber water and escorts me to my nail technician and hands her the water. «Uh my tea?» I asked the woman and she walked away.
–picked a color sat down in the very comfortable couch like chair and had the most basic pedicure ever.
«How much am I paying for this?» I kept thinking…
«When will I get my consultation?» Hmmm…
–the nail technician told me that my one nail had to be kept a little longer because there «is like some skin thing with it».
–10 rapid mins later I’m sitting here in a lounge area with sitar music, with men awkwardly reading Bazaar magazine. It’s a room– there are no dryers for my feet. My left pinky toe nail polish is smudged and I have no tea.
I left work a little early for this. I work hard and I honestly wanted to treat myself to a splurge. If I knew that I’d get a shoddy pedicure I would have spent less and gotten a mani-​pedi somewhere else. At least they take the time to give me a massage on my feet and legs. They have a better idea of what they’re doing. Do Aveda’s products smell amazing? Yeah — but this customer service was lousy. Your not making me feel relaxed…
I’m very disappointed. I’m half tempted to go to another place now to get a manicure… Seriously don’t come here to get your nails done.
As a customer I wanted to see what they do for hair coloring so I booked this appointment to check it out– like a test run for when I want to color my hair.
Now that I know how they treat their customers who want their nails done– I’m not coming here for my hair.

Massage therapist is great but the staff turn over in this place is like a revolving door.
They need to work on their customer service and invests in some heaters for their freezing massage therapy rooms ! How can you relax when you are freezing !!

Loved my experience with Barry! I found Barry by asking around after seeing amazing color jobs. I brought pictures of hair colors I liked and requested balayage and a cut. My hair color now looks exactly like the picture! Feels great too due to the amazing products.
Now to the haircut – thank you. I’m so tired of wannabe hairstylist who have butchered my curly hair. I’ve had those who kept cutting to rectify their errors. I’ve had those that managed to cut the worst shapes possible. I’ve had someone cut 1 section of hair about .25″ in width (yes 1section) and then charge 80 bucks?! Yes, I’m a little jaded on haircuts. I explained this to him before we started and explained what I wanted. Hair stylist wannabes please take note: he LISTENED to the client. He gave my curls a shape and avoided the dreaded pyramid-​head. Again, thank you.
Price? I’m looking at my hair and can’t find a single negative thing to say. I had a good time, was treated with respect, and met some great folks. It was definitely worth every cent.

As someone who normally spends as little money as possible on hair cuts (including going to the Paul Mitchell schools where students cut your hair), I was hesitant to up my game and come to Aveda. Women’s hair cuts here run you $ 90; men’s hair cuts are $ 45. Ouch!
But I’ve been told by my more pampered friends that this is within the «normal» range for hair cuts (1^st world problems?) so thought I’d give it a try.
Right off the bat, they impress you with excellent customer service — a friendly face greets you when you enter and gets you checked in, offering tea or water while you wait. If you’re lucky and your hair stylist isn’t immediately ready for you, you’re led to their small lounge in the back. It’s a small room (feels crowded if there are 4 or more people) but very posh. Nice furniture, mood lighting, plenty of magazines, and even soothing music. I was even sad that my name was called so soon.
My husband and I came together to just get hair cuts and our biggest takeaway was that women’s hair cuts take twice as long. (Maybe this makes up for men having to come in way more often?) The stylist evaluates your hair first and gets a sense of what you want, then takes you to get your hair washed at a different station. A different person washes your hair and then leads you back to your stylist’s station. The hair cut itself is really fast (10 minutes?). What took so much time was the blow drying afterward (about 30 minutes). But hey, your hair looks great afterward. (Too bad I didn’t have any place to be afterward!)
Overall, I’d say it’s worth ponying up the big bucks if you want a quality hair cut AND spa-​like service.

I’m new to D.C., originally from Florida. After scouring Unilocal for a decent-​enough salon, I found Aveda, near where I live, and decided to give it a shot. I LOVED IT! Cassandra gave me the perfect cut and color; totally what I asked for and I couldn’t be happier! I recommend this salon, and her to everyone!!! I’ll definitely be going back!

Jessica Crawford has been cutting my hair for the last year. She always does an incredible job and she is always very personable and professional. You can tell that she is inspired by what she does and takes pride in it. Which, in my opinion, is exactly what you want from your stylist. And last but not least, she gives an AMAZING pre-​cut massage! Oh my god, so good.
The rest of the staff is just as personable and professional. The shop itself is clean and tranquil.
Remember to bring cash for the tip as like the majority of salons these days, you can’t do so via credit card.

I went to Logan 14 because I had received a discount from a Unilocal event ( Unilocalchella). I am especially happy that I did because Logan 14 is really nice. They are in a very nice location. Perfect for pampering yourself then meeting up with friends for drinks and a bite to eat.
Upon entering into the shop I was immediately greeted by their lovely staff and was asked if I wanted water. I was pleasently surprised that it was cucumber water. Which in my book makes any place instantly more spa like. One of the front desk employees then escorted me to my nail technician, Ogii.
Ogii was lovely! She was really nice and paid close attention to detail. One con I do have is that I was not able to upgrade my manicure to do gel. She was on such a strict time limit she said there would not be enough time. She did however suggest a polish that would last the longest. The manicure included a two step hydration process that left my skin feeling milky smooth and smelled amazing. The pedicure was just as nice. And included a hot stone massage. My feet were dire need of some love and she worked until they were revitalized.
Overall, I had a very good experince at Logan 14. I would highly recommend others to go here for a luxury mani pedi for a reasonable price.

I’ll admit it. I’m still getting used to how the east coast works. Don’t get me wrong, there are plus sides to the salons out here. WOW. Like how I can get evening and weekend appointments, I don’t have to take off from work to get my hair done! But I still feel like a buffoon sometimes. Like when I forget to bring cash for a tip, or small bills for those who take care of the shampoo. Hey, what can I say? These things were all new to this Oregon girl. But I’m glad I kept working through my issues because my hair has never looked better since I found Logan’s AVEDA and Bridgett.
I visit Bridgett for balayage and boy is she great. When I first came in, my hair was sort of jacked from a couple years of «straight-​haired girl» foil highlights. I had signed up for these from time to time to add dimension to my dark curly hair. While those highlights looked okay right after being styled (usually I get a blowout after a salon visit), once my curls came back the colors just looked muddled.
Bridgett suggested a balayage to get my natural color back while adding in some larger and more purposeful highlights for dimension. I loved the result. Even when my hair is curly, the highlighted pieces stand out without looking harsh. After the initial procedure, I only go back in for touch-​ups, which cuts down on my time in the chair and makes the overall look easier to maintain. This is critical for me, because I really very rarely take the time for myself in a salon.
I couldn’t be happier. Thank you for putting up with me!

I came here yesterday for a maintenance cut as my hair gets greasy easily, especially in the winter. Gabby was my stylist and she gave me a great cut. She recommended getting my hair cut every 8 – 12 weeks as well as a reasonably priced shampoo for my scalp. I got the small bottle at $ 19, which is more expensive than cvs but cheaper than other salons I’ve been to whose products start in the $ 40 range. I haven’t used the shampoo yet as my cut is still new, but I’m confident in the product’s quality as both Gabby and Kristen (who washed my hair) recommended it.
If this review were for Gabby alone, she’d get an automatic 5 stars. As others have noted, prices are outrageous. My cut was $ 70, and I don’t think I’d every paid that much for a simple cut. I’d pay that amount for a complicated style or color, but not for trimming the ends and shaping my hair! I do take responsibility for not asking about the price beforehand (I stopped by and made the appointment an hour and a half in advance) but I’ve never heard of a simple haircut being priced at $ 70.
I don’t live in logan circle, so I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here. I’ll go back to Eurospa on K St ($ 35 a cut) or give the Aveda institute a try.

Not sure what they do differently for their manicures here, but it’s the best I’ve ever had! The «7 day polish» lasted 14 days before the usual wear and tear started to take over.
I was here with a group of girls for a baby shower, and they allowed us to reserve a cute little waiting room so that we could have champagne and cupcakes while people went in and out for their services. The staff was super friendly!

Although I live around the corner from Logan 14, I’ve never gotten a haircut here because they charge outrageous prices. Plus, I’ve gotten major attitude from the staff when I’ve gone in to ask questions and buy Aveda products. However, I was hopeful when I learned that they do makeup. I had a trial session with Chris for my wedding day makeup.
Before I go further, I have to add that I’ve taken makeup classes before when I used to model, compete in pageants, and work as an extra. In a nutshell, I know a thing or two about makeup. I even gave some serious thought to doing my own makeup for my wedding, but decided that was one thing I didn’t want to worry about on the wedding day. Thus, I decided to give Logan 14 a try.
As soon as Chris started working on my eyes before applying any primer or foundation on my face, I started feeling worried. Chris finished the entire application in under an hour. It felt very rushed. Plus, I kept having to tell him to amp it up because everything was way too light, especially for the camera. He kept reassuring me that he will give me a more dramatic look on my wedding day. But wait… Isn’t that what a makeup trial is for?
I also told Chris that I was working a black-​tie gala that evening. He reassured me that the makeup should hold up all night. What a lie. After 4 hours of running around, speaking to members of the media, and posing for photos, I looked like I barely had makeup on by the end of the night. If it couldn’t last through that, I didn’t trust that it will last an entire day of photos, hugs, kisses, and dancing.
Needless to say, I promptly found a real makeup artist soon after all I saw all the photos from the gala and how terrible my makeup looked. After looking at the photos, my new MUA immediately recognized the amateur work. She told me that wedding day makeup must be applied in layers and the trial should always last for more than an hour.
When I called Logan 14 to cancel my makeup appointment for my wedding, the girl on the phone hung up on me before the conversation ended and without confirming that my appointment was indeed canceled. I called back to confirm the cancellation because I didn’t want my credit card to be charged for a no-​show. The next girl I spoke to gave me even more attitude. I’m never stepping foot into this salon again.

I got a bad haircut from this salon. My hair is easy. It’s loose curls – very easy to cut and style as it takes to whatever is done to it. To start, the haircut was uneven (picture included from almost two weeks after cut and still bad) and I have two cowlicks that never existed, one right at the front of my hairline. Further, she blended my layers which I did not want because it prevents the curls from separating from each other and now my hair just looks blah and flat. The styling when I left the salon was amateur – too much product making my hair flat and oily on top and tendril looking on the bottom.
When I emailed the studio about my experience, I was told that the owner was interested in fixing my hair for me. When I responded that I wasn’t sure I was comfortable and that I did not live in DC so I didn’t know when I could come back anyway, I was told that UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES CAN THEY OFFER REFUNDS FOR SERVICES. Inflexible service in an industry that lives and dies explicitly on service. Services which for this grad student, are pricey. So now, the studio has bad to mediocre work and service on their hands.
I rarely complain and didn’t even slam the cut as badly as I wanted to, and then after two weeks of phone tag to hear I could not be refunded seems absurd to me. Thank goodness I didn’t have my color done or something else pricier and more longwinded to fix because that wouldn’t get a refund either, I mean COME ON. Further, I offered to have someone blow my hair out in the future for an event and was told that it would have to be a cut and dry again – why would I put myself through this again?

Ever since my last updated review, the customer service here has done a complete 180, so I wanted to update my review again, and give them their star back.
Following my previous review, Courtney, the manager, called me. Although I was at work at the time and couldn’t give the conversation my full attention, I think that I got my point across. She apologized profusely, and said that she would speak to the front desk staff.
Since then, I have been back 3 or 4 times. I was a little nervous going back the first time — I was wondering if maybe I had a giant red flag on my account saying COMPLAINER! But, I guess I’ll never know! The staff was completely professional, and very nice. I have since called several times and spoken with many people on the phone, and they’ve been very accommodating… however I haven’t tried to move my appointment again due to impending weather, so I guess that will be the true test!
Jessica still continues to give me the most amazing hair cuts — seriously, if you have a bob (or want one), go see her! She’s awesome! Even with my constructive criticism sometimes, she does a fantastic job, and her personality deserves 5 stars.
Unfortunately, Andrea has left the salon. In her absence, I’ve seen Diana and Nellie. I just wasn’t feeling it with Diana, so I switched to Nellie last week for my eyebrows, and let me tell you — when I got home, I could NOT stop staring at my eyebrows! She did a fantastic job, even better than Andrea!
To top things off, Courtney was there on my last visit, and she greeted me and apologized again in person, which was incredibly nice and professional, and I have nothing but the utmost respect for her. She also gave me a goody bag, which was unnecessary, but very thoughtful.

I removed my original review because this business has threatened personal retaliation.
The Manager, Courtney, left a voicemail asking me what they could do to get me to remove my feedback this afternoon. However, I was not able to not immediately return her phone call (i.e. my grandfather passed away). Not more than a few hours later did I receive text photos of my personal business website and my physical work address asking me «how would your clients feel if.» and calling me a «LIAR» to my mobile phone.
They cyberstalked me and sought out my personal information to conduct voicemail and text harassment.
Unprofessional and unethical.
Despite this being a civil matter, I communicated this information to the police and will report to BBB. The police advised that I should NOT remove my feedback on this business as it will encourage them to continue this sort of unethical behavior towards other customers. That said, here are the FACTS of my experience:
1.) Manicure/​Pedicures: Nail technician cut down the side of my toenails. Twice was the nail polish uneven. The Owner is the individual who I showed, and he said «It looks like the polish was thinned out, just have her do another layer.»
2.) Discounted deals: There was no reminder of expiration on 3-​for-​1 deals. The Owner and Manager stated they could not make exception or courtesy to allow services to be rendered one week later. They said the system would not allow them to, but really this wass a matter of customer service not technology. I lost out on a mani/​pedi and a blowout because of the unwillingness to make the courtesy.
3.) Hair services: Speaking only to three stylists that I had. $ 90 for a very average haircut. Two blowouts by two different men. One curled my hair in the wrong direction, but the waves did not stay anyways. The other blowout was just plain awful. After requesting volume, the man straightened my hair like it was ironed to the point of heat damage. My previously long, thick hair air is dry and brittle now. He also gave me tight jeri curls with a skinny curling iron saying they would loosen. But they never did, and I looked like RosannaRosannaDana.
*After this whole ordeal of receiving harassing texts from the Manager, she sent a text stating they would like to refund me for my unsatisfactory services and sorry for my loss.
I will send an update to this review if they do actually do send a refund.
