What a great surprise! I just moved into the neighborhood and was looking for a close Chinese food place and the reviews weren’t great for this place. But it was late and I decided to try it anyway. It was very good. We had the pupu appetizer plate, sweet and sour chicken and General Tso’s chicken. All of it was fantastic, and was ready when they estimated it would be. I will definitely be getting food from here again!

These folks have renovated, and so I will do the same for my review(but it’s still 4 stars). Using Unilocal’s EAT24 app, as well as their own online ordering system, makes getting food from here a snap. I haven’t detected a drop-off in quality since the change, and I feel like there’s much more reliability/predictability with the online system. I live close enough that I just do pickup, although the one time I ordered delivery it was just fine then too. I’m glad this place is keeping up with the neighborhood’s transformation. Still a fan of the General Tso’s, the chicken wings, and the fried rice combos.

I always loved this place because, despite the kind of scary exterior, they serve great cheap chinese food in the neighborhood. I love the crab rangoon, and they have best french fries in the city.(Seriously). Great for wings and fries, decent chinese staples(though I stuck to the fried variety from here). Plus they always threw in a few cans of soda, a free appetizer or extra entrée depending on the size of your order. But a recent renovation in the storefront has let to a renovation in their prices. Now it’s $ 8 for Fried Rice — and not the heaping quart that you used to get either. Terrible(still frozen?) sweet and sour sauce does nothing for the dry pork or overly battered chicken. With prices like this, I’ll go to the more reputable place down the way(or get Thai, as there are great Thai options in this neighborhood). Sorry that their facelift went to their head.

On two occasions I have ordered food from here and it has taken well over an hour to get the food.

Terrible service! I placed an order over the phone and the food was NEVER delivered. I called after an hour of waiting and was told it would be there shortly. It never came. I would not recommend this venue at all.

I give this place four stars because it’s right outside my door. They’re really quick and I love their Crab Rangoon and orange chicken!

I can only testify to their lunch menu, which is now a buck more than the neighborhood’s other Chinese joints at about $ 7.50 for modest servings. Perhaps they’re offsetting construction costs, since as of this writing the front of the house is mostly temporary plywood. Lucky is somewhere in the middle of the local pack, neither awful nor outstanding. Duck sauce or hot mustard are not given automatically. Ask. Parking is hit or miss, since it’s on a busy street. For a quick in-and-out fried food experience, Lucky works as intended. You will miss that extra dollar, though.

Crispy shredded beef is soggy and looks like chicken. They were unapologetic.

The pork yat mien was like non I ever have. Extremely thick, tastes like soy sauce noodles. I had to add some chicken broth. The beef & broccoli wasn’t bad. Average. Nothing special here. I had their steak & cheese egg rolls before, they’re pretty acceptable.

If I could give 0 stars I would. I called to see if they delivered to my area and whoever picked up the phone laughed and hung up. Now I won’t even waste my time placing an order for pick up. I suggest they start being more polite if they want to keep their business open.

We stayed in DC for the weekend and right across the street from our rental condo, found this place. It’s walking distance from Potomac station. It looks pretty sketchy and unappetizing but it was basically one of the few places open. You place your order to the owners behind a plexiglass window which is pretty weird, they have some blown up low quality photos on the wall for some of their menu items which gives you some idea of what it might look like. Although what I’ve said sounds it’s like a sub par place, the food was actually quite tasty. I ordered shrimp and broccoli. It comes with a garlic type brown sauce. When I asked what kind of sauce the guy just said«brown». The prawns were big and broccoli good, not soggy or overcooked. It comes with pork fried rice and a pretty large serving for $ 7.00. I probably only managed to eat half of it. It was made quickly, not sure if it was made to order but like I said it definitely did the job.

This is Chinese take-out so I am judging it from that standard and that standard alone. If you want some fancy Chinese food head to The Source or Mandarin Oriental. If you want some good hangover food/don’t feel like cooking food – order from here. It pretty much has the Chinese food delivery standards and it is best to stick with the«good ol’ reliables» like general tsos, sweet and sour chicken, etc. Anything else is hit or miss. The beef broccoli can be a tad bit chewy at times. The fried wings are good and crispy and the Chinese apps and soups are good too. Delivery time can vary but usually no longer than 45 minutes tops. Yes, I agree with some Unilocalers that one of the delivery people doesn’t leave his car and expects you to go to the car, but it is what it is. If you don’t like it, just don’t order there anymore and stop slowing down my order from getting to me, LOL!

I rarely get on Unilocal to write nasty reviews but this place absolutely deserves it. We have ordered from here three different times, and each time the delivery driver REFUSED to get out of the car. We live in a high rise and offered to at least meet him in the lobby, rather than him coming directly to our door. But no, he would not do that either. It’s not because he was double parked, or any other legitimate reason. He was just too lazy to do his job. This type of service is totally unacceptable. I refuse to give business to a group of unprofessional people who do not take pride in what they do. The food is average, greasy, American Chinese food. Pick another place to spend your money just on principle alone.

More of a 3.5 stars… possibly 4 after I try more dishes. I am judging the food and the food alone. From other reviews, it looks like the delivery service may not be dependable, so I just picked mine up. You can’t dine here as it’s take-out only, so be prepared to have somewhere to eat if you do decide to visit. I ordered the General Tso’s which was delicious. Comes with plenty of rice and some broccoli in the mix. My roommate later ordered a chicken dish which he enjoyed as well. I find with most Chinese restaurants, that they aren’t a destination, but something you order if it’s in your neighborhood. This is a fine neighborhood Chinese joint, nothing to go out of your way for, but is perfect if it’s in your radius.

Nothing extraordinary. I found the exterior of the egg rolls to be too thick and overly chewy — way too much material there for my taste.(Of course, these were free, as advertised with an order of more than $ 15 — I confirmed this on the phone.) The onion rings are probably divine at the restaurant but by the time they made it to us, the steam emanating from the onions but captured in the styrofoam left them a bit floppy. To be fair, my husband thought the batter was solid, so again, better hot off the presses, I’m sure. I’m not familiar with what kung pao sauce tastes like regularly but this sauce didn’t impress. The veggies in the dish were predominantly celery, with some carrots, and maybe one or two mushrooms/baby corn/peppers hiding at the bottom. But you better like celery. The general sao’s was the«winner» but still nothing that leaves an impression. Heavy on the sauce. But there’s hope. Both meals improved with a night in the refrigerator. Plenty of rice. Delivery took approximately 40 minutes, but that’s what we expected. When I called to place the order I wasn’t immediately certain I had the right number, given the woman simply answered with«hello.» But when I asked to place a delivery order, she got straight to business. I’ll try another Chinese spot in the area before I return here but this worked in a pinch.

I confess. I always order the same thing over and over and have no tried anything else on the massive array of items they offer like any of DC’s Chinese takeout joints. But what I get(5 fried chicken wings, white steamed rice, Mountain Dew with mambo sauce on the side) is the best of all the takeout joints, any of the chicken places and is easy on my wallet. Nothing fancy or culinary to review here. It’s just good-sized wings dropped in the same oil(grease?) as everything else they cook just long enough to get a crunchy skin and tender flesh. Steamed rice is steamed rice. But it’s consistent, it’s delicious, they’re fast, they deliver, they take credit cards(unlike some of the Chinese joints closer to home) without harassing me to spend at least $ 10(unless you get delivery) and they’re not worried about your feelings. Customer service is good, but customer quality isn’t, meaning you’re not going to be greeted with hellos and smiles. It’s straight to the point, ‘What you want?” which works for me. Yes, this is a positive review for a Chinese delivery/takeout joint because of its fried chicken. If you’ve ordered anything other than the chicken and steamed white rice and didn’t like it, I have nothing to do with that. Get the chicken next time.

First time there and I’m sure it won’t be the last. The chicken wings with fries and mambo sauce sure hit the spot. The dumplings were equally good too. While it’s a carry out place, they were ok with us hanging out and eating our food on premises and offered us extra sauce without asking. Great people, great food.

It’s greasy Chinese delivery. And for that, it is what it is. If you go visit the place for takeout, it’s a bit unsavory. I have since discovered Ming’s Chinese takeout on H St, which has supplanted Lucky Carryout from my takeout rotation.

Lucky?!? — only in that we didn’t get sick. One star is two too many! This is the first time Unilocal has totally failed me. This place is foul! BF and I wanted to eat chinese at home. I searched Unilocal and was pleasantly surprised by the reviews I read. Despite the awful look of the place, I decided to give it a shot — sometimes great food comes from unlikely looking places. I spent about 30 minutes waiting and was pleasantly surprised when I saw fresh fruits and veggies being brought into the kitchen. NONE of this produce was destined for anything coming out of the kitchen. I didn’t expect a lot and I’m all in favor of hole-in-the-wall finds, but Lucky managed to both disappoint and disgust. The greasy, tasteless slop we received was vile. Worse yet, all the slop tasted the same. They won’t see me again!

Yeah, yeah, I know. I’m Chinese American and I’m rating a Chinese takeout place. I’m not going to hold this to the same standard as a sit down, authentic Chinese place by any means. My question is simply this: Is this good Americanized Chinese take out food? I mean, there’s bulletproof glass and no seating here. They served fried chicken wings and ridiculously sugary sodas. You know these guys have been pioneers in this neighborhood long before the 200 condos and Harris Teeter showed up across the street. This place is actually legit. They’re a little slow on delivery(usually 45 minutes, but they don’t lie about it and tell you 30 minutes). They have a decent delivery area, and a lower delivery minimum than other places in the area($ 10 minimum). Also, if you order more food, they include free extras such as soda or egg rolls($ 15+), 8 piece crab rangoon($ 20+), chicken fried rice($ 25+), or general tsao’s or sesame chicken($ 30+). Sometimes, the delivery guy expects you to leave your house to pick up the food from their car. Food is pretty cheap and it’s hard to meet that $ 15 to get some egg rolls. The actual food is pretty good and more importantly, it’s consistent with everything I’ve ordered from here. Combo lo mein made me especially happy and so did the spicy green beans. Could they have improved some of their dishes(I’m looking at you eggplant!)? Yes, but otherwise a pretty consistent Chinese takeout place. Fried wings are a little pricier than I expected, but they’re halfway decent. Accepts credit cards. 4.5 stars for Chinese take out!
