Da is the best hair stylist in DC! :-) She really does bend over backwards to get the right color and cut you are looking for. Love this little salon. :-)

I was a little uneasy about getting my hair cut here after reading some of the more catastrophic reviews. However, I really needed a haircut so I booked an appointment with Kendra. She did such a great job on my hair. Before doing anything, we sat down and talked about how I wanted it cut and how I usually style it (or not style it, I generally just wash and air dry). The change was really subtle, but she did a really nice job of cutting out the dry/​broken ends and adding in soft, long layers. I explained that my office is pretty conservative, so I couldn’t do anything too daring with my hair, and she was awesome about giving me subtle enough layering so that my hair has shape, but nothing to choppy or noticeable.

This was my 2^nd haircut and this one was the worse ever. I loved my first haircut, I got Da and told her I wanted her to do her thing.
I wasn’t a fan of all the layers so after waiting an entire year with only going back once for a trim I was exited to get a ‘sexy Bob’
My birthday is coming up so I wanted to get a new dew again. My hair was Long enough for a long bob. I get to my appt and tell Da I want a sexy long bob, no layers because I hate them on my frizzy hair and it’s too much maintenance to curl my hair everyday. A sexy sleek bob would have been perfect
Soooo as I tell Da what I want she tells me a bob with my hair will be way too dull and flat.
It’s ok I wanted flat and a straight Blunt but with my hair a symmetrical coming down in the front.
She starts doing HER thing telling me
It’s not good for a bob on my hair and a few layers would look great even though she knows I don’t want layers :0(
End result I leave with her telling me I have a young sassy haircut, funny I asked for a SEXY BOB! Wtf?!
Today is day 3 and I hate my haircut, it flips and looks like a shag and it looks like crap on me. Unless I curl it which takes an hour it will look crappy. I don’t like the layers she cut and instead of a blunt cut I got a bushy shag. Ugly ugly ugly I will NEVER come back and even tho my hair grows very fast my birthday sexiness is ruined. $ 80 for a sh$tty haircut that was not what I asked for
If you want a specific look DONT see Da, sorry but I’m so mad I hate my shag and feel
Stooopid I paid so much for this. I live an hour away and wAsted my time driving for this

This salon is great. The staff is very welcoming, the atmosphere is calming, and I’m thrilled with my stylist, Jonathan. He does an excellent job of my highlights/​low lights (and I’m very picky). I’m also impressed that they run on time — I haven’t wasted time waiting for my appointment.

I’m so happy with my new style from Jonathan! He’s a pro. I talked generally about what I don’t like, what I like, and without a clear vision for a cut/​style. He had a vision and executed it wonderfully. Now I actually want to style my hair! And, don’t be discouraged if you can’t get a fast appointment with anyone– get on the cancellation list to be seen quickly.

I don’t ever post reviews on Unilocal,I usually just use the reviews to figure out what businesses I will patronize. However, since it was based on the positive reviews for Michael Anthony Salon that I decided to go there I will post this review to hopefully save someone else the misery. It was at Michael Anthony Salon that I experienced the most traumatizing hair experience of my life due to extreme incompetence on the part of my hairdresser, Da.
I am new to the area, originally from Houston, where I had been getting my hair done by the best professionals in the business every six weeks for the past ten years. Upon my move to DC I needed to find a new hairdresser and due to the outstanding praise on Unilocal,I decided to come here. My hair had been platinum blonde for 8 years and only in the last two hair visits in Houston had I decided to add very few and very subtle (slightly darker blonde) lowlights to give my hair color some dimension. This is exactly what I wanted to maintain during my trip to Michael Anthony Salon. I even brought pictures so that my hair dresser, Da, would have multiple points of reference. I explained to her the history of my hair, what products had been used on it by prior hairdressers, what products I use now, and what look I wanted so there was no doubt about the end result that I desired. I explained that my hair has broken off in some areas due to being on Accutane for nine months (hair loss being a famous side effect of the drug), that it was not due to the bleach since my hair had never done that in the 8 years I had been bleaching it, and that I was no longer on the Accutane and so it was only now starting to grow back. Every hairdresser I have ever spoken to corroborated my story by telling me the pattern of hair loss was obviously due to hormones/​drug and not due to bleach stress since they had very different patterns. Da didn’t believe me and insisted that I shouldn’t use any bleach on my head because she was «concerned about further damage», I reassured her this was not an issue and to clarify my vision asked if my hair would look like what I wanted and she said yes. She starts painting away at my head. Silly me, I assumed that she would be doing what I was paying her to do. However, after the shampoo I noticed my hair was black. She had gone way too heavy and way too dark with the lowlights. My hair, when dried, was a grey/​black color. From platinum blonde. I was horrified. Turns out, she hadn’t used ANY bleach on me and she heavy-​handedly applied an ashy medium brown lowlight. According to the color experts that have always done my hair, given how light my hair was originally the brown spectrum should have NEVER been a thought. Medium blonde is as dark as any expert would have recommended. Also, you aren’t supposed to put ash tones on platinum blondes because it creates a grey/​green cast hence my end result. Cosmetology 101. She starts consoling me and telling me if it didn’t lighten up that evening, that I could come back tomorrow for a color correction but that she had refused to put bleach on my hair due to potential damage. Ummmm wow. I leave in a rush and when I get home I burst into tears. Never in my life has something so awful happened to my hair. My fiancée, feeling sorry for me, called the salon immediately to schedule my color correction appointment the next day. I hopped in the shower and started using clarifying shampoo to help strip the color, but it barely made a difference. I washed it three times. The next day I go back in for my color correction and I had to tell her what to do to my hair. She still refused. WTF. She puts some trashy chunky highlights in my hair. She dries my hair off and my highlights are bright orange, she acts like it’s fine and asks me if I like it. I said no, it’s orange. She puts ANOTHER ASH TONER ON ME. I realize at this point, this is as good as this joke of a hairstylist can do so I accept it and immediately made an appointment with LuLu Sage in Alexandria (a REAL hair salon). In the meantime my hair looks skunky if I brush the highlights together and grey if I mix it in. The hairdresser at LuLu Sage tells me to start washing my hair with detergent to help strip the color and in a week she would fix me. I went to LuLu Sage and she did fix me. I’m FINALLY back to normal. Ultimately, Da was completely incompetent, not knowing basic color theory or customer service. If she had genuinely cared about the damage to my hair (which was unjustifiable anyways), she would have done what I originally asked which was put some Olaplex on my roots to bring them up to speed and then put a few carefully placed medium blonde lowlights throughout my hair. It was far more damaging to have done: lowlight, tone, strip color, highlight, tone, strip color with detergent, get heavy highlights to fix it. I got a Sports Clips-​quality experience for an arm and a leg. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR HAIR. This woman should have her license revoked.

I will preface this by saying my boyfriend told me that my hair cut was not professional. Have been going to my salon for 20 some years. I have to admit that I was in a rut needed something and was looking for a stylish new cut to accompany my 70 pound weight loss.
So, after a lot hope researching and hand wringing, I found myself at Michael Anthony salon. I chose Da as my stylist. I’m so glad I did.
Walking up the steps of this Capitol Hill salon, I was extremely anxious yet excited. The place was buzzing with business, laughter and good style. I checked in with the receptionist who asked me if I’d like a beverage. I took some water and waited for about 10 minutes for my appointment.
I told Da that I was looking for a fresh sassy look and to really have her way with me! She did a great razor cut, explained what she was doing and how I could replicate the same look at home. We discussed color and the possibility of mine growing out to see what my gray really did look like. I was shocked at the shortness of my hair but really liked it. I’ve waited a week and a half to write this review to make certain that I captured my satisfaction. I really like my new haircut and have gotten tons of compliments.
I’ll be back. I’ve already made my next appointment and canceled my color at my former hairstylist.

Found this place on Unilocal a little over a year ago and absolutely obsesssssssed!!! Hunter is INCREDIBLE! Every time I get my hair cut I have complete strangers stop me in grocery stores, the post office, bank, etc. and tell me how great my hair looks, which makes me the happiest girl ever! If you haven’t checked this place out, definitely do yourself a favor and schedule an appointment. They’re the best!

I’m going to try and keep this short because otherwise, I will go on and on for days about how much I LOVE this salon. My hair is about 2 years perm/​chemical free and it’s been quite a process figuring out how to manage my 4c natural hair texture (read: super friggin thick and coily). I was afraid of getting it blown out for fear that heat damage would upset my natural texture, but Collin alleviated ALL of those fears on my first visit with him. I’m not exaggerating… I sent all my friends an obnoxious slow motion video of my hair bouncing… I can’t even remember it looking that good when I had a perm!) Needless to say, I don’t go anywhere else to get my hair done now. In addition to my blowouts and trims, Collin also did a fantastic color job that I’m STILL getting compliments on months later.
Aside from Collin, everyone else in the shop (from Mickey the owner, to the other stylists, to the shampoo techs and the front desk associates!) is super friendly and nice. I feel at home there, which is saying a lot for my picky self! Highly recommended! :)

I love this place. It’s so simple and comfortable, and the entire room is filled with friendly conversation — feels like a family as opposed to just a place to get your hair done. When you walk in, you’ll be offered something to drink. The shampoo ladies give a wonderful scalp massage! Paul Mitchell products are always a plus.
MAS consistently ends up on «Best Of» lists, so I’d make an appointment — their website makes this easy.
Collin did a fantastic job with my long, curly hair, making MAS a rare find for this kinky-​headed white girl.
Street parking seems like it’s at a premium, so I’d recommend biking, Ubering, or taking the metro (Eastern Market stop is about two blocks away.)

My experience was great and everyone was nice, but I got one of the worst haircuts of my life. I went in with collarbone length hair and asked for a long angled bob with long, blended layers. I left with a chin length bob with significant chunks of hair missing from the sides. This haircut required significant repair by another stylist at another salon.

Had the world’s crappiest day (don’t even get me started) and had a haircut scheduled for this place (found on Unilocal). Almost cancelled because I needed to get to a bottle of wine (or five) stat, but glad I didn’t. A few people talked about the salon running behind, but I came a bit early for my appt. and was able to get right in the chair. Consuela washed my hair and gave a head massage that was amazing and relaxing (is there a service just for that? I might do that daily…). Then onto my stylist – Jonathan – who was friendly and totally GOT ME from moment one. Here’s me: a crazy amount of curly hair and somewhere between zero and less-​than-​zero desire to have a «routine» that involves anything other than shower, add-​product-​while-​wet, then walk away. I give new meaning to low-​maintenance, and my PET PEEVE is hair stylists who give you a cut that you have to do CRAZY amounts of work on and use a billion products. Screw that. But I love having great curly hair. It’s a hard-​knock life.
At any rate, Jonathan gave a great cut that took the weight off my hair and revitalized curls and is easy to maintain. He was also lovely and personable and a joy to work with. I’ll be going back.

Before selecting this salon, I scoured through tons of reviews looking for a one that I would be able to trust with my precious locks. Based on nothing but the reviews, I decided on the Michael Anthony Salon and can say that I do not regret my decision.
I called on a Thursday looking to score an appointment for the weekend and wasn’t surprised when the stylist I wanted, Da, was booked. I put my name on the waitlist, assuming that I would never hear back, but to my surprise they called me the next day to schedule a Saturday afternoon appointment… WIN!
What I most appreciated about my appointment (in addition to the fabulous cut) was the fact that Da spent a decent amount of time talking to me about what I wanted in my hair cut. My bangs needed some serious attention and she offered her opinion based on my fine, thick hair. I told her I was a little apprehensive about adding the layers in the back that she recommended and we finally agreed that she would address my bangs this session and when my hair grew a little longer, we would address the layer situation. I truly appreciated the fact that she took the time to get to know me and my needs rather than chop my hair knowing that I wasn’t confident in what she had suggested.
My hair looks so good and I have been getting compliments on it since I left the salon. The best part for me is the fact that I can style them just as easily as before; but, they look 100 times better than the sad bang look that I had going on previously. I would definitely recommend this salon and Da.
I thought the price for a cut was a little high, but I assume it is comparable to other salons in the area, so I will pay it again to have another excellent haircut.

What is there to say that hasn’t been said? Nothing really, but just wanted to give another shout out for Da who is adorable and totally rocks. I always leave feeling like a million bucks. Love the online scheduling and welcome diet coke!

I loved my experience at Michael Anthony Salon! From the ability to make an appointment online, to the great customer service when I had to change it, to Jonathan making me look SOOOO much better after my cut and highlights, and the warm friendly atmosphere – I couldn’t have asked for anything better. I look forward to returning in a few months.

Da has given me the best haircut of my life! I’ve always struggled with my thick, wavy high-​maintenance hair, but Da has worked some kind of miracle. She’s super friendly and very collaborative in her styling — always asks before making a major decision. Her balayage skills are second to none! I love that I can book my appointment on their website, too.

After my fourth time at Michael Anthony Salon, I couldn’t help but write a review. I’ve LOVED every haircut and color so far. Hunter is amazing and works wonders with my boring, kind of blah hair. He manages to give me an amazing cut and color every time. I feel happy and gorgeous every time I walk out of the salon. Would recommend Hunter and Michael Anthony Salon in a heartbeat!

I got a great cut from Jonathan. He was super friendly and did a great job not cutting too much off. The texture and layers give my hair versatility but the cut is a short to mid length which is good for work.
The price is a little high for a cut that didn’t take that long but the costumer service was fantastic. I think I was just surprised how fast it was.
I would pay the extra money to be treated so well.

So I’ve traditionally not gone to salons to get my haircut — I always thought they were too pricey and not worth it; however, I recently decided it was time to grow up and invest a little in my hair. I tried the Aveda Institute first because I’m cheap and the student haircuts are a great deal — I got the wrong student though… and was not happy at all. Then I tried the Ava Salon and Spa, which was good, but not the best. Michael Anthony is the best. I should’ve just listened to all the other Unilocal reviews. I’m 26 and my hair has never looked better.
To start, I was offered coffee/​tea/​water/​soda as soon as I walked in. Then I met Jonathan, who was great — I told him I’m getting married in 3 months and wanted to wear my hair up at the wedding but that it was getting too hard to manage at its current length. Although I said I wanted to take off a few inches, he cautioned me that I should only take off 2 inches and instead put in layers to make it lighter and more manageable. I was happy to have his suggestions and agreed that sounded like the best plan. After a wonderful shampoo with a great head massage (seriously, is it ok to fall asleep when your hair is getting shampooed… is that weird?), Jonathan started my hair cut.
He was actually pretty quick cutting, but you could tell he was measuring everything out so that it was all even, which I greatly appreciated having some really uneven cuts in the past. After he cut it and showed me the layers in the back, he then set about drying it all, which is quite a process! Jonathan curls your hair with the brush and then wrapping it around the brush and leaving it for a bit, so you end up with many brushes in your hair looking quite ridiculous… but it’s so worth it. My hair is incredibly thick so it took him a while to finish drying it, but he didn’t skimp at all — he dried it all and then brushed through it with some smoothing pomade. It looked incredible… I really don’t think my hair has ever looked like this.
I was also pleasantly surprised my haircut was $ 59 — I thought it might be more given the length of my hair, but it was just $ 59. It’s so worth it. This is now my new salon, and I will request Jonathan next time I need a haircut too! I highly recommend him and the whole salon. The checkout process was also very easy — you can have your receipt emailed to you! I forgot to mention you can also make your appointment online, which I loved. All in all, a great experience :)

My girl Jerri Graham has announced her retirement from hair cutting goddess! i repeat, Jerri has announced her retirement! Effective December 20^th. I need to find a new stylist! GAH! What’s a girl to do?! HELP!!!
