Michael Jackson’s Birthday Bash @ Madame Tussauds DC

I couldn’t take the double reminder to review this once Nick’s review popped up in my feed so I’ll bandwagon this off my backlog list.
The layout was interesting, you basically ran a gauntlet of eerie moments in time to reach the open area where the event was set up and life was breathed back into the place. Great DJ but I was just too unnerved by the surroundings even after imbibing liquid courage. I’m glad I wasn’t subject to the faux mannequin scare tactics. The Pilsner Urquel ran out pretty quickly, but at least there was wine to turn to afterwards. The barbeque pork hors d’oeuvres were more savory and popular than the other two varieties. Props to Keon for taking neat photos. James L was kind enough to introduce me to a bunch of Unilocalers I hadn’t had the pleasure of meeting yet in person, and I still tease Lia about mistaking me for Mrs. P. Now I have a bottle opener a la Unilocal for my spare car key!

I was totally creeped out by all of these figures. They were eeerily lifelike but all so short.
The food was unusual and ran out early.
The wine was tasty.
I can’t wait to return to Madame Tussauds for the Rhianna unveiling.

A standard good time at another Unilocal event except for one thing: the little food that was there was pretty bad. I can’t say I’ve ever seen that many people at a Unilocal event chuck food into the trash. I managed to finish my morsel but it was a bit of a struggle.
Other than that, I thought the event was great. Was a lot of fun checking out the creepy wax figures.

I love Joan Rivers but I swear I realized the voice was coming from a speaker in the ceiling and I was distinctly NOT actually trying to hold a conversation with her. All the wax figures were deeply creepy in the best way possible.
Bonus points to the people who dressed up on theme – I especially liked Ani’s sequin glove and Tracey’s sequin skirt. ~*~sequins!~*~
It was great to meet some new kids – Oscar, so not grouchy. And Brian, who was showing off some super smooth moves in perfect Club Monaco pants. Of course any event that features DJ Hazzard gets a thumbs up. Way to keep everyone dancing.
Didn’t like the food, but there was plenty of white wine.
Thanks Tara for a fantastic night. Now can we do a lock in at the Natural History museum?

I got in a HUGE fight with Tyra Banks… so then I walked over to Will Smith to ask him what the deal was with her attitude… after I was done conversing with him, Madonna kept it real open with me… with her legs. So I decided to hang out with Johnny Depp, but he seemed to blow me off, so I thought that maybe after talking it over with George Clooney I might have a better night, even Julia Roberts agreed! Tom Cruise just kept smiling at me when I tried to ask him more questions about Scientology… what a douche, so I thought that maybe Aretha Franklin could give me some R E S P E C T. She did and then I told Oprah how great the night went as I looked for more food outside of the wax museum.

This will probably be the closest I ever get to partying with the stars. So what if none of them talked to me. Or made out with me (Johnny!!).
I had a great time anyways. A private after hours party with the best Unilocalers on the web is hard to complain about. I had one beer, which was enough. I had one piece of something w/​spinach in it. That was alright too, because I chowed down after wards on late night happy hour food somewhere else.
The music was great, the company was even better and I got some great photo ops. Thanks Tara for bringing us all together and making it happen. MJ may be the king of pop, but you are the queen of Unilocal

OK, so I shouldn’t complain about things running out, because hey, it was all free, and donated even. But yeah… the food? The beer? Oh well.
First and foremost, MAD props to Tara for setting this up, Jane for visiting us from the wonderful world of Manhattan, and Tom from the Museum for letting us run rampant among the ridiculously expensive ($ 200k apeice!!) wax figures. Matt and I had an absolute blast. I was only mildly creeped out by the wax figures, but that was usually when I couldn’t tell what was real and what was wax.
I think I’m now spoiled — getting to hang out in the museum with no tourists? Fantastic.
It was awesome to finally meet some of the DC crew face to face that I hadn’t met outside of Talk yet. Looking forward to more good times.

Another successful elite event.
Hung out with some movie stars while meeting some cool Unilocalers, scored a free lunchbox, got a free beer and a glass of white wine, and almost got a chance to eat some appetizers… but alas, I was too late to get any food as this ran out early.
Nonetheless, it was a very fun night with some good music and fun people. Unfortunately, I lost my staredown with Tom Cruise. That dude knows how to stare… big props to him.

Creepy wax statues.
Pilsner Urquell gone too fast,
but wine saved the night.

As a kid I used to love playing with the red wax that came with those mini wheels of cheese, man that was fun… What’s more fun then that?
Taking inappropriate pictures with wax statues of famous people, sipping some Pilsner U, vino and chillin with my fellow DC Unilocalers. Most of the night was spent catching up with old friends and trying my best not to knock over many of the wax statues.
As always, Tara was the with that million dollar smile welcoming all of us and being the gracious hostess.
Did I mention we snapped up many inappropriate picture with the wax people (Penelpoe Cruz, how you doing?)? As the night went on and e graduated to some vino, it became interesting to engage in conversations with Unilocalers while feeling as if the wax figures were eavesdropping on conversations.
Sometimes it was hard to sort out some of the new faces from the wax figures, as you locked eyes with a figure from across the room. Ewww… it’s like they were staring intoy soul.
I had a great time and loved seeing all the DC Unilocal peeps. Can’t wait to see you all again at the next event. Thanks Tara for yet another awesome Unilocal event!
