Neighbors Cleaners & Laundromat

It’s a laundromat. If you’re here, you’re not happy. The machines are frequently out of order, and if you have to haul your clothes here regularly you’ll wind up throwing your hard-​earned quarters into at least one unmarked broken one a month (oh, the joys of running out of cash and hauling home a wet sack of laundry!). But the thing about laundromats is you basically have no choice but to go to the one closest to your house. I spend a lot of my time here thinking about how grateful I’ll be when I finally have a W/​D of my own.

I used Neighbors’ dry-​cleaning for about a year. After they (1) ripped my new shirt and charged me to fix their mistake, and (2) closed early so I couldn’t pick up my clothes for work, I decided not to go back.
When I picked up my clothes for the last time, I found out that as the third in line, I was the third person to complain directly to the store! The first person’s clothes were lost and not found and the second person was told that her major bank-​issued debit card had problems, but only at this place. Beware of Neighbors, and remember there are many other, more professional dry cleaners in Capitol Hill, probably just as close to you as this one!

How happy you’ll be with this laundromat depends entirely on what you’re going there for… I have regular size laundry machines in my building, and so I trekked some distance in order to use an extra-​large machine for my comforter.
Turns out, there’s only one large machine and it’s broken. A regular customer told me it’s been broken for years, and probably isn’t getting fixed any time soon.
So in sum, if you live nearby and don’t have laundry in your building, it’s probably fine for every day wash, but if you’re like me an only need a laundromat for larger items, don’t waste your time.

You can’t deny the convenience of a laundromat/​dry cleaner/​wash-​dry-​fold that is quite literally steps outside your front door. Neighbor’s Cleaners could not be more perfectly located. Neighbors has it’s good points and its bad points:
1. The laundromat: Very bad. The major drag on the star rating above. The machines are unreliable (usually an average of three are non-​functioning) and not as large as you would expect from a laundromat. The room they’re in is always hot (that’s to be expected in an older building) and appears to be quite dirty. Some of the workers there (who aren’t around all the time) are a bit of a nuisance, but completely harmless.
2. The dry cleaning: never had a problem with an item and she even hemmed the sleeves of a suit jacket for me and it came out great. She’s also quite sweet about getting things back to me if I’ve accidentally dropped it off late and need it in a couple of days.
3. Wash-​dry-​fold: perhaps the greatest invention known to man. I can’t stand doing laundry and having it cleaned and ready to go in 2 – 3 days for a fair price and virtually no work on my part is an expense I’m willing to spend. Don’t take your jeans there though, because they tend to wash everything very hot and some things come back just a skoch smaller than what they went in.
Overall Neighbor’s Cleaners has left a few things to be desired, but their strong points are relatively strong and make up for it. The good service on dry cleaning and laundry service paired with the convenient location makes it my one-​stop laundry depot of choice.
