I am not fashion forward by any means. In fact, I’m quite the opposite — I buy sweatpants from Costco and I happily live in them 80% of the time. I find shopping in boutiques quite intimidating but the ladies at Nomad with their gorgeous smiles make you feel welcome as soon as you walk in.
I immediately zeroed in on a few mixed metal geometric pieces by a local designer that would look great with pretty much everything in my closet (including my Costco sweatpants) and knew that I had to have them. The price tags were rubbed off so I braced myself for the cost that I usually associate with well curated shops like this but it was very fairly priced and I happily went home with a new necklace and bracelet.
The rest of the store is pure eye candy — — there is room upon room of colorful vintage frocks, antique furniture and housewares, women’s accessories, and men’s clothing from all different areas and parts of the world. It was much more than your typical vintage shop — it’s a place to get creatively inspired.
Other fun finds: the softest woven blankets from Ethiopia, vintage tej glasses, Christian Dior theatre style sunglasses, ponchos, all natural apothecary items, crocheted dresses, hats, hats and more hats galore, promdresses from the 1950’s and more!
This place is the true definition of a hidden gem. To get to Nomad Yard Collectiv you must find the alley behind Union Market next to the Maurice Electric Supply Company. If you see a bright blue car with a giant husk of corn shaped like a fish attached to the roof you are in the right place. Next to the garage is a brick wall painted with Nomad’s logo and an arrow. Follow the arrow up the steps and turn right.

I bought a few pieces of furniture here and the ladies that work here are always so nice and friendly. I also missed it upon my first visit, but Nomad Yard is definitely worth turning around for! With such great finds this place is a go-​to for gifts, they have some really awesome jewelry and lotions/​soaps/​oils (and did I mention furniture?).
You have to at least stop in and browse– I think the only day they’re closed now is Monday.

I drove right past this place as I turned off of New York Avenue, assuming Nomad was located in one of the garages down by Union Market. But no, it literally is right off of New York Avenue, you just have to park behind the place in the available parking. I was sooo excited to get here, but I wanted to take my time ya’ know (for all the hype to die down), so I can see if this place really has the goods.
A VINTAGE COLLABORATIVE WONDERLAND of all types of stuff that you would only dream of finding! This is a stylists’ paradise, if you had to do a photoshoot and have only a few hours to get some hot pieces, this IS IT! This is a true fashion/​art underground dwelling; they are a tight knit group of collectors, contemporary designers, crafters, and artists. The thing I love about this place is that it is soo natural and the staff are really cool and down to earth. Aside from very carefully picked clothes, shoes, housewares, and accessories from all over the world and various time periods, the pieces are well cared for and are in excellent condition. It really blows me when I see these little knick knack stores pop up in the city, asking for top dollar and their merchandise is just some stuff from the local thrift shop that’s barely wearable.
There is a real integrity to Nomad Yard and after I saw the frock of my dreams spun from yarn with this frayed detail at the bottom, I tried this dress on and… OMG! Me and the store owner were in love, so I have to shoot her a picture back of me in this dress. We walked around and paired it with a bone colored clutch that really brought out the detail on the bottom of the dress.
All I can say is MEANT FOR ME! It was MEANT FOR ME, and that is the whole excitement and magic of vintage; it’s a one of a kind piece that someone else possessed and now it mysteriously finds its way to you or you find your way to it, and occupy this thing until someone from another generation inherits it’s beauty.
Nomad Yard Collectiv is one to watch… they’ve got their finger on the pulse of today’s culture for sure. Desiree is everything… as an artist, host, owner, she is amazing and she welcomes you into this space as though it were her home! You can also book Nomad for personal engagements, they give events all the time, including dinner parties. Just another way to get out and rock with cool ass people who have found a way to openly live, love, and express art, history, and fashion all in one breathe.

Beautiful. Tasteful, not tacky – which is reflected in the interior design and price. I’ve been in a lot of vintage stores and this one had a really unique perspective. Desiree was lovely. Side note: I took about 5 wrong turns, because I couldn’t exactly figure out the parking situation, but it’s actually really easily accessible – it’s in the alley right behind the store.

Beautiful space, lovely aesthetic. Finally got to visit after seeing posts on IG and reading reviews on Unilocal.It definitely lived up to my expectations: a large, eclectic space with cool vintage finds for both men, women, and home. I love that they sell everything from sunglasses to cool local art. The owner of the store, Desiree, was super cool and welcoming. I ended up purchasing some beautiful crystal earrings, but will definitely return for more one-​of-​a-​kind vintage pieces!
Definitely recommend for a weekend trip after brunch with your girlfriends, or something to check out if you’re visiting Union Market or just NE in general.

The Nomad Yard Collectiv is a really dope space. There’s nothing in DC like it. It’s perfectly curated and the owner, Desiree is absolutely amazing. Not only you can find one of a kind pieces but you can also rent the space for events. It’s not your ordinary vintage space and frankly that’s a great thing. :)

This is the most awesome African-​American, female owned vintage store. A must visit! Been driving by for months and never had time to stop. Wish I had stopped much sooner. Kudos to Desiree! Purchased the sexiest 1970’s vintage sunglasses and some excellent handmade, organic body care products by oh so good organics. will be back next week! #blackgirlsrock

This place is wonderful! I went in with two friends just to check it out, and we all walked out with cool new pieces. It’s an inspiring space — well edited and curated. I felt like I was as welcome to play dress up as I was encouraged to take beautiful things home with me.

This is such a huge space and they do a great job of filling it with really interesting accessories, clothing and nicknacks. They had some beautiful vintage fur coats, awesome fedoras and gorgeous woven bags. I drove by this place a million times before going in and I’m glad I finally did! They have the disadvantage of very little foot traffic but it’s just a quick stroll from Union Market. If you’re grabbing food over at the market, you should totally check this place out while you’re in the hood! Looking forward to returning in the future to see what comes in.

I am a huge fan of Nomad Yard and come here often to check on new goods as their collection is constantly evolving. By far it has the best curated collected in the city and an impeccable attention to detail. Every corner is perfectly stylized with vintage home goods, hats, purses, and clothes. I am a huge believer in supporting local and small business, and what I particularly love about Nomad is that when you are shopping there, you are supporting a whole host of local collectors and artists all in one building. I have talked to the founder, Desiree, extensively and always leave impressed by her commitment to make this city a more creative hub of collaboration.

Nomad Yard is my favorite store in DC. It’s locally owned and has amazing vintage finds. As someone who works in the fashion industry, I’ve been to many vintage stores but not many as well curated as Nomad Yard. Everywhere you turn is another corner or rack full of something amazing and the owners have done a great job of creating a particular vibe that is consistent from the merchandise to the music. Some of the pieces are expensive but I carefully use that word instead of «overpriced», which they are not given the quality and uniqueness. Nomad Yard is not only a store but a place to inspire your senses. So glad DC now has this gem.
