One Medical Group

Good medical care in today’s world can be challenging to come by. With One Medical, I have the peace of mind knowing that my needs are cared for. I love the fact I can always contact someone ²⁴⁄₇ via email or phone to ask questions. Last month I suffered from a severe cold. I called the Group on a weekend and received a call back within 20 minutes from the on-​call doctor who then sent my prescription to my local pharmacy. Also, the staff at Farragut is very friendly and helpful. Lesley Magnussen is an excellent primary care provider and she is extremely knowledgeable, particularly in Women’s Health. I can’t say enough good things about this Group and I encourage everyone to become a member.

I am also in the group that is so disappointed and unsatisfied with One Medical Group. I work in healthcare in a highly specialized field and have worked with patients and physicians for over 12 years. This is by far the most basic medical care I have ever received which is really surprising for the way One Medical Group advertises. I’ve now seen two doctors here who were subpar. The first (Dr. Agerwal) was completely dismissive and condescending and instead of listening to my concerns and thinking outside of the box, spouted off medical advice straight from a fitness magazine. I was seeking this group because I was under the impression that they went above and beyond and really listened to the patient.
I complained and explained that I was looking for a functional medicine Doctor. I was referred to Dr. Buchwalter who was anything but. She was so by the book that it was the opposite of what I needed. When routine blood work was normal, she was unwilling to search for another cause of my health issues. I did have an abnormal pap and was sent an email with results telling me to make an appointment with a gyn. So impersonal. And on the subject of Pap smears– the pap at this office was more uncomfortable/​painful than getting an iUD. Do yourself a favor ladies and get a separate gyn.
In summary, you can get better care with a more open minded doctor with better diagnostic skills at an office where you are not paying an annual fee. Need a sick visit same day? Call Dr. On Demand from the comfort of your home for $ 40 fee and have a prescription ready in 30 minutes.
I am hoping to get my annual fee refunded as this place does not work for me.

I really get discouraged with One Medical. While I will continue to go here due to the closeness in proximity to my job I have so many complaints.
1) The website asks that you arrive 5 minutes early because, «They do it different, and actually begin appointments on time!» This is not true, I find myself showing up 5 minutes early and waiting 5 minutes past the time of my appointment every time.
2) I find that the doctors are constantly «Googling» things while I’m being seen. They seem to often be resourcing to methods I would, in my living room…
3) I asked a doctor for Latisse, and she didn’t know what it is, googled it, and somehow came up with the wrong drug… All you have to do is google it and you can easily see what this drug is for…
Really, really frustrating, and novice.

In this day and age, it’s worth to pay extra to get the care and attention that you’re really looking for. I’ve been looking for a primary care facility who’s able to help me monitor my health regularly and won’t require months for appointments. This pop as the top on the list, and I’m so so glad I’ve made the decision to go with One Medical Group.
One of the most memorable impression I’ve gotten from my primary care doctor is the fact that she monitored the incoming reports from a specialist. She personally e-​mailed me to see how everything is going and did a cross reference from previous records from a different specialist. When I got that e-​mail, I was so taken aback. Never in my healthcare history has a doctor ever personally contacted me about a care I’m getting elsewhere! My previous primary care doctor never even contacted me about anything, period.
Then comes the checkups itself. It’s nice to know that I’m getting all of my money’s worth here. They really take their time with making sure all of my questions are answered, and are really thorough with their tests. They made sure everything was done and done right. I can trust them — which is a HUGE & important factor when it comes to healthcare.
Lastly, they are up to date with their tech. No paperwork running around everywhere, everything is in the system. They can check your records from years back within seconds. I can finally relax knowing that AT LAST all of my records are safely placed in one secured system.
P. S. The nice & modern office space doesn’t hurt either ;)

Update: recent months have seen a steep decline in One Medical’s service and support.
When I first started, emails and digital prescription refills were prompt, and always within 24 hours.
Today, it’s a mess. I’ve sent messages to three different doctors (all different occasions) in the past few months. One got back to me 10 days later with an answer that basically said «I don’t know», another took over three weeks to get back to me (and only after I followed up no less than three times). Now, I have a message that has been responded to for 5 days and still counting.
Their offices are nice, their doctors are friendly, but ultimately it’s no better or worse than any other doctor you’ll find. Sadly, it appears they’ve overloaded their staff with so many patients that their flagship features (such as the ability to email your doctor) have fallen by the wayside. It’s not worth $ 199/​year fee as it is, although I hope this changes and I can update this review.

I found myself in a medical appointment over in Fairfax last week, one of a few specialists I see in the INOVA network. I was giving the doctor my PCP information, and something happened that made me both thankful for having One Medical Group, and wishing they had a more tangible Borg-​like connection to my specialist-​doctors. That’s what led to this review update, really: the nature of all these hospital networks having «patient portals» to keep a continuity of care, and yet none of the portals really linking up to each other. Because I’ve HAD my yearly mammogram and exam, but just because I didn’t have it AT INOVA, my patient portal (Inova’s MyChart) keeps barking at me when I log in. Sorry, INOVA, but I’m keeping my PCP. I keep thinking about switching, but I feel like I’m in such good hands that I’m not quite considering a change.
Stephanie Wallace, PA-​C is my primary care provider, at the I-​Street One Medical Group location. This is noteworthy, for two reasons.
ONE.
I live and work in Northern Virginia. When I began going to One Medical Group for primary care, I was working in D.C., so the actual logistics in seeing doctors in D.C. was easier. Driving in from Annandale in the middle of the day is OK, because I can find on-​street parking. But appointments in the morning or afternoon are going to have traffic (like whoa) and involve an $ 18 parking fee in a garage due to no on-​street parking nearby. But you know what? It’s actually WORTH IT for me personally. The care is that good.
TWO.
I have asked Stephanie to keep my doctors in the INOVA system as much as possible, so that I have some sort of continuity of communication/​care from specialists (through their MyChart application). The fact that my PCP is not in their network, and is not even in databases because she’s not actually an M.D.*, is only a slight hinderance, because Stephanie researches care providers and follows up with me on my appointments and care to ensure that I don’t get off track.
Working with One Medical Group is smooth. The hiccups involved are worth it, because having a primary care provider truly tuned in to your overall care is a great thing. So I keep telling Stephanie that she’s worth the trip into D.C., even though parking sucks (and taking the Metro and paying $ 10 at a lot in NOVA is about the same cost, really). Having a medical provider and an office staff who are SO FREAKING TALENTED AND FRIENDLY enough to warrant the extra hassle of seeing them? Yeah, I wish I could give this place ALL THE STARS.
* a situation I hope «the system» will fix, because clinical PAs are just as good as MDs in a primary care setting, thankyouverymuch.

I’m the kind of person that avoids doctor’s offices. I will «wait it out» for as long as I can until having to go. I haven’t taken the time to really look for a trustworthy, quick, and caring doctor. I am so glad I read Kim S.‘s review on One Medical Group– I joined last week, and I went to my first checkup visit last Friday and had a great visit.
I have Blue Cross Blue Shield, and One has a deal for BCBS membership holders. Check it out on their website or call.
I was impressed by my first call to their office. The person I spoke to the on the phone was extremely helpful and friendly, and set up my appointment efficiently and easily.
My actual visit was at lunch time last Friday. I came in for a check up. Remember that the entrance is on I street, in the same building at the Army Navy Country Club but different entrance. Their office is on the 8^th floor. The space is fancy and modern, with comfy couches and chairs, chic art work, and water in a lovely pitcher with glass cups. Even the folders on the receptionist’s desk have cute designs on them.
Chris was my physician, and he was great. He is attentive, caring, quick, and personable. I really liked that he noticed a rash on my left calf. I didn’t even think about bringing it up, but he wanted to make sure that we took care of it. After the checkup, I sat in the waiting room for 15 minutes to get blood tests. I didn’t mind waiting. The guy who took my blood was also really nice and attentive.
One Medical Group makes doctor’s visits pleasant, and that’s why I’m going to come back. My usual nightmarish experiences at the doctor’s office are hopefully a thing of the past!

Joining One Medical was the best health decision I have made in DC. The initial fee is absolutely worth it, and my second year was covered by my health insurance. The providers are the kindest and most patient I have seen in DC, and I love how user friendly their website and app are.
I am entirely too spoiled, and have now gotten used to same day appointments whenever I darn feel like it. They ask that you arrive 5 minutes early, because the appointments really do always start on time, if not early. the offices are spotless, and the waiting areas (I’ve been in all three locations) are very well decorated. Did I mention that they’re ALWAYS on time? I can’t imagine going back to other offices where you have to wait three weeks for an appointment, wait an hour, and then another 30 minutes in the room. I routinely schedule appointments without even taking sick leave, as I’m in and out so quickly, that it is never an issue!
They respect your time, and your privacy, and you can easily get prescription refills via the app in under 24 hours.
The providers are also available by email, and are courteous, friendly, and truly work as team.
The reception staff are also friendly and courteous, too, which seems to be a rare thing these days.
You do need to have health insurance, so the cost will vary depending on your insurance plan. I love that I can come here for routine well woman exams, asthma treatments, and travel shots. The bios of the providers are on the website, and you can pick the provider who has the most expertise in what you are interested in.

I’m also in the camp of people who are questioning the hype for OMG. Maybe I let myself get influenced too heavily by the way they advertise themselves/​outward appearance, and am now feeling the effects of crashing down to earth from my illusions. They have a very sophisticated website and, it seems, all the technological gadgets to maximize efficiency. Their office décor has a spa like feel, which is nice I guess. For sure, most of the doctor’s offices I’ve been to have been lacking in these areas. However, I’m not convinced that there’s better care and service at OMG as advertised. I’m starting to think this is just another pig except it’s wearing lipstick.
I’ve been to their offices 3 times so far. Once to their Dupont Circle location, where I saw Dr. Kate Komis. The other two were at the Farragut Square location, where I saw Stephanie Wallace (a PA) and Dr. Veena Chawla. I just came from seeing Veena, and I’m writing this in a pissy mood (you’ve been warned).
I have to say first that the reception desks/​administrative staff (in office and over the phone) have been great. They give good customer service; they’re attentive and overly polite. Which is why it’s even more disorienting when you go back with the doctor and get a completely different attitude. I should say that my experience with Ms. Wallace was positive overall. She was thorough and had a much better bedside manner than the doctors. However, Dr. Komis and Dr. Chawla left a very bad taste in my mouth.
First of all, the first thing that happens when you get into a room with a doctor is they sit behind their desks/​in front of a computer and drill you with questions while they type your answers. OK, I realize they need to get your history but d*** if I don’t feel like a research subject. Why don’t they just have you fill out something online (can’t remember if I did that)? Wouldn’t that be more efficient? There’s not time for your questions because they’re so busy asking theirs. The entire visit is conducted in this way, except for any physical examination of course. At the end of this «thorough» questioning, you hope that your problem/​issue would have some hope of getting resolved or that at the very least you would leave with more answers than you had coming in. No such luck. Each visit has felt like a waste of time. They don’t seem to know what they’re doing if you come in with a specific problem. Every time you talk to them they’re very eager to get you in for a visit.
I ended up going in today after asking for a referral for a specialist after my previous one retired. They pushed me to come in. I got lectured pretty sternly about how wrong my other doctor was in his treatment, even though this is not her area of expertise. She also shamed me for taking medication (non-​narcotic). I left feeling like I had done something wrong; like a child after a reprimand. Her overall tone was so off-​putting! After going through all that, I still didn’t get better informed about my treatment options or actual specific suggestions/​advice. My visit with Dr. Komis, who was dry and mechanical, was no better.
I get that they’re reluctant to reach for the prescription pad and I appreciate that. But how is treating patients like idiots going to help matters? If your patients are uninformed, that’s due to the problems in the healthcare system and the way we do things in this country. Also, do I even need to say it? It’s YOUR job to inform your patients. You want your patients to be better informed, then INFORM them but please do it without insulting their intelligence. I get that you have a fancy medical degree but you’re still required to build a positive relationship with patients and that’s the best way to «change» things if that’s what you’re really interested in doing. And what’s the $ 200 annual «membership» fee? Are they kidding with that?
Doctor’s patronizing patients is nothing new, of course. It’s still frustrating when it happens. Anyway, I guess I need to find a new GP. Ugh!

If you are one to say that it takes weeks to get an appointment with a primary care physician or your doctor’s office is always late or you don’t get enough time with your doctor, complain no more. One Medical is the place for you!
Not only are they convenient to my office, they are extremely efficient. My colleagues have been raving about this business model so I decided to check it out. I booked my first appointment through their website and filled out all my paperwork and profile online. I was offered multiple times over the next few days for my yearly physical. Days, not weeks! They offer same day appointments, too. Amazing!
I received a reminder text three hours ahead of my appointment time. (Thank you for not calling me!) I arrived 10 mins early and the receptionist was delightful and the office was calming. She offered me water from a glass pitcher served with glasses, not a water cooler. Not that it matters a big deal, but it was a very nice touch. They played soft jazz from a Bose speaker system hidden on the floor under a table. I sat for maybe 5 mins before my doctor, yes doctor, called me back.
We chatted for twenty minutes before he performed my physical. I discussed all my concerns and also learned more about him and his family, his background, why he loved his career and he offered advice. He referred me to another physician in their practice who was an avid CrossFitter about some nutrition concerns I was having. We’ve emailed twice already. He also prescribed me a dermatological medication after his exam and sent it to my pharmacy while I was dressing. He’s also already sent me a follow up email saying when the results of my lab work should back.
There is a $ 199 membership fee to join this practice but for CareFirst patients like me, the fee is waived. My time is more valuable then that so to me, I would of paid it. This concierge practice has made coming to the doctor a little bit more enjoyable because the focus has shifted from getting in as many patients in a day as possible to real patient-​centered/​focused care. Life is all about relationships anyway.

This place has made my life easier when it comes to doctors appointments, medication management and just regular communications with my doctors. Since everything is done digitally from an easy website/​mobile app, I never have to call from work to schedule an appointment.
Also, they are flexible with hours and offer very early morning hours for those who can not take off from work during the day. The staff is friendly, and the best part is that it does NOT look/​seem like a doctors office in any part of the office — wait room, front desk, patient rooms.
Not to mention, location options are great and always right by a major metro line! I’d say that the fee is worth it if you see or contact a doctor more than a couple of times a year.

This place is everything that all medical practices should be, but aren’t. I feel like I’ve found the primary care providers of the utopian future.
1) The front desk staff is NICE. I had to stop and think about it, but I can confidently say this is the first time in 10+ years in D.C. that I’ve gone to a doctor’s office and not encountered surly reception staff. (Side note: Why? It’s like they’re all in a secret cabal determined to make your day worse, when of course it already sucks because you’re at the doctor’s.)
2) They understand the internet. Online appointment booking or rescheduling. Doctors that you can email with questions. Because you always think of one more question right after you walk out the door.
3) They’re on time. I’ve been to the office on three separate occasions, and my appointment has never started more than 5 minutes late. And even that only happened once.
4) Their doctors and PAs are kind and proactive. I’ve had appointments with two different PCPs, and they were both excellent.
5) Same-​day or next-​day appointments. Because that opening in two weeks really doesn’t help me when I’m sick now.
I will admit that at first I was skeptical when I called to make my initial appointment, and they told me about the $ 199 optional membership fee. They said I could waive it (and they no longer require that you prove financial need in order to do so), but I figured they would be selling me on the membership at every turn. But so far, three appointments later, no one has brought it up.

I have been a member for over a year and am still on the wait list for a primary care physician. Recently, I found one who is taking patients at this group and the first available appointment is one month out.
I am not planning to renew membership.

As I come up on my 1 year anniversary with One Medical Group I thought it was time to put in a review.
After reading all the reviews on Unilocal and being completely annoyed that I had to find another mediocre PCP I decided to pay the $ 199 and try a membership. I fretted over spending that much money for a normal doctor but I soon found out what all the hype was about.
Appointments can be made through the app, online, or over the phone and now that they opened the DuPont Circle office I am regularly seeing same day or next day appointments! The appointments start on time and you spend it entirely with the doctor. Whenever my PCP sends me off to see a specialist I get to see how everyone else lives– appointments that start late and the dreaded wait in the office for a ridiculous amount of time until the doctor finally walks in the room. I don’t miss them and I think every other doctor should take a page out of the One Medical handbook!
My PCP is Casey O’Bryan and she is wonderful, if you have the option to go to her you should. She listens and is very thoughtful in how she approaches each problem I have presented to her. I’ve seen some other nurse practitioners there and gotten some blood work and shots done and everyone I’ve met, front desk staff included, has been excellent. If Casey ever leaves (please don’t leave!) I know for sure I would find someone in the practice that would be able to seamlessly pick up the reins.
With all that being said the two major questions are: did I think my $ 199 fee was well spent and will I spend it again? and would I recommend anyone, including my colleagues, family, and friends, join One Medical Group? The answer to both are a resounding YES!

I see the Nurse Practitioner Casey O’Bryan and she is awesome. This office embraces technology and helps streamline the usually burdensome admin aspects of going to the DR.

I don’t understand the hype for One Medicsk Group as my regular PCP is far better.
I had a really bad cough and cold so I stopped into One Medical. I was impressed by the lobby and front desk. It was modern and clean. I was excited to see where this might go!
I was late but my appointment began just about on time. I was supposed to fill intake forms online, but the crappy online forms didn’t work right. Then the lobby didn’t have wifi. It was irritating. I ended up filling out paper documents. So much for amazing IT systems at One Medical…
The nurse practitioner came to get me and was very touchy feely. She was attractive and extremely likeable, but it was weird with the touching. If I was single I would have thought something was going on … Lol. She was mostly professional otherwise. I liked her well enough.
While the lobby area was nice, patient rooms are drab and gross. It was depressing in the exam rooms! They were cheaply decorated. It was at best IKEA style, kind of cheapo furniture.
She evaluated me and gave me a reasonable though not extensive amount of time for the appointment. However, her treatments were minimal and I would have been just as well off self-​medicating and maybe going to the Minute Clinic at CVS. Seriously there was zero point coming here to One Medical because they failed to try to help me.
To be honest, other than the office lobby being nice, this was not a special experience at all. One month later and I’m still sick. It was basically a waste of time to come here. And as to email communication, my regular PCP will do that and get on the phone with me at any time. Really, this place is overhyped!
I’m sorry but One Medical needed to do more to earn more stars. It’s not the worst place I’ve been, but they aren’t very good, either.

Forget everything you know about how doctor’s offices operate. The gritty reception area, long hold times to schedule appointments, surly receptionists, long waits for your «appointment», sheafs of 4^th generation photocopied forms to fill out.
The problem with most medical practices isn’t the competence of the doctor. The problem is that you have to deal with a lot of really frustrating and time consuming stuff before you see them.
All that stuff is gone. Someone finally created a practice that actually values your time. It makes a huge difference. You make your own appointments online. They don’t make you fill out a bunch of boilerplate every time you go there. The waiting room is clean (and usually quite empty, since you really don’t do much waiting). Prescriptions are transmitted to your pharmacy electronically in real time — no extra trip to drop it off. You can email them and they email you back, in a timely manner. And I’ve actually been seen within 5 minutes of my scheduled appointment time each and every time I’ve visited. For several appointments over the last year I’ve been able to do door to door from my office in under an hour — no small miracle.
So the administrative stuff is great. I’ve only had experience with one team, Dr. Lindsay Sher, my chosen PCP, and her PA-​C Stephanie Wallace, both of whom I’ve seen. They have been great as well — professional, knowledgeable, and responsive.
The only real downside was in the past it could be difficult to get an appointment on short notice. (Of course this is no different than a conventional practice, so it’s hard to complain too much about it by comparison). However, I found that if I really wanted to get an appointment right away, I could just check the schedule early in the morning (like 7 – 8 AM) and there would nearly always be slots that had opened up due to cancellations. More recently, this has not been a problem — my last appointment I was easily able to get the next business day without any extra effort.
Long and short of it is, for me, it’s been well worth it. Highly recommended.

I just had my first visit with my PCP, Dr. Richard Kennedy, at One Medical’s Farragut location. Wow. As someone who works in technology, it has frustrated me beyond words how inefficient the medical industry has been historically. And then, OneMedical comes in and makes me unbelievably happy to be a patient. It’s kinda weird saying that about a doctor’s office, but let me explain why.
1) They genuinely care about the patient. I spent 45 minutes with Dr. Kennedy to go over my medical history, talk about medical concerns, and more. I already feel like I can trust him and it’s true partnership, in the best interest of my health.
2) Everything is electronic. Finally. For the first time ever, I didn’t need to fill out the same paper forms 100x when going to the doctors office. Everything is easily accessible online: my medical history, family medical history, lab tests, and even his comments post visit!
3) The mobile iOS app. Feeling sick and want to book an appt from your mobile phone? It’s super slick and easy to communicate with your doctor, get refills on medications, and so much more.
4) The ability to book same-​day appts. If I am really sick, I want to make sure I can see a reputable doctor immediately. In the past, I would try to meet with my PCP or even their doctors office, and I would get something back like, «They have appointments booked until January.» Really? I never call in and I really need to see a doctor… c’mon. However, the way that OneMedical is structured makes it so that you can always book same-​day if you really need to. Patient first, truly.
I have never been more excited to write a review on Unilocal.But OneMedical just «gets it» and I truly think this type of care is the future of medicine. I sure hope so, but regardless, OneMedical will provide efficient, personalized care that truly puts the patient first.

Don’t tell my mom, but I have been living my entire adult life without a primary care physician. I am pretty healthy overall and I lead a very busy, transient life so dealing with a new healthcare team seemed daunting to me.
Enter One Medical Group. For a $ 199 membership a year, they will take all of the hassle of scheduling doctor’s appointments. Imagine a world where the following happens:
+ Same day doctor appointments that you can schedule online
+ Visits that start and end on time
+ In house bood work so you don’t have to travel all around town to get your tests dne
+ E-​mail communication with your doctor
I know what you must be thinking, is this a Noxzema commercial or what? But I’m telling you going to the doctor can really be that easy!
Not only that, OMG is more like a medical spa. Say goodbye to sterile, surgical steel smelling environments. At OMG, it’s all about the details:
+Brightly colored fuzzy fleece robes instead of one size fits all jumpers with your butt hanging out of the back
+They give you a nice little muslim bag to hide your urine sample and you get to deposit it in a wicker basket. So quaint! Hard to believe a few years ago, I was carting away my samples out in the open like an uncouth monster.
I was also very impressed with the knowledge of my doctor. Like others, I will admit that she is on the young side (she’s not Doogie Howser, but she wasn’t Dr. Huxtable’s either) but she was knowledgeable, proficient, and easy to talk to. No complaints from me!
When can I go back!!!

So far I’ve only had one appointment but it has been such a night and day improvement over past doctor visits in DC that I wanted to share right away.
1. huge plus on filling out medical history and other paperwork online, before the appointment.
2. scheduling the appointment was super easy online. i did have to look 2 weeks out but I think that is because it was my first appointment and full physical.
3. just 2mins wait when I got there and was greeted directly by the doctor. no assistant nurse to ask me questions, followed by a useless intern to ask the same questions and 30mins later a doctor who asks the questions for a 3^rd time. none of that bs. Here the doctor reviewed the info I provided online and asked me a few more questions for clarification.
4. the office is very nice, clean, professional and the doctor’s office equally nice.
5. the doctor was attentive, thorough and personable. and gave me her card with her email to follow up with her (I needed to check if something was covered by my insurance).
Definitely worth their annual fee.
