Picasso Gallery Custom Framing

My mom introduced me to their shop in Tenleytown about 20 years ago — one of her best pieces of advice. Not only are they great craftsmen backed up with perfect frame suggestions — they also ask about my mom every time I come in.

during a day and age where service is always questionable at best… this framing establishment will serve your needs… I made a mistake… not only were they understanding, they did a great job, finished early and covered my mistake up for no extra charge… All stores could learn from the service this father and son

I was really excited to get my degrees framed. I came in and the clerk was on the phone, told his friend that he had a customer and that he would call him back in 10 minutes. He then proceeding to rush me through picking matts and frames. I did not get the sense that he was at all interested in helping me find the frame that I was looking for. I left and will be taking my business elsewhere.

I was really looking forward to framing these two small canvas paintings that I bought several years ago. With the stretching and frames it was still over $ 600 even with the 30% discount. I opted not to frame at this place and will be looking elsewhere.

I had high hopes after reading some other reviews. I went in with a small print to be framed and left very disappointed. The person working acted as if he was above framing something so small (8×10) he told me it would cost a huge amount to frame and suggested that I do it myself by going to IKEA. I was willing to spend the money to have a professional job done, but his attitude was terrible and I decided to go elsewhere. I will continue to use Frame of Mine on Cap Hill even though it is far from where I live.

I went to get several quotes in the area, and the folks at Picasso were the best. First off, the staff here informed me of all the different options that were available, and secondly, they gave honest pricing and delivered on time. There are many places you can go to get photos and art work framed, but there aren’t many where you get the personalized attention that only Rojyar can give.

Picasso Gallery is phenomenal. Anything that Rojyar Poozesh turns into museum quality art. Even if you have a poster or picture that you wouldn’t expect to be archival, he will make so that the first thing you save in a fire are those pieces. Rojyar is humble and extremely loyal to his customers. Go to the Picasso Gallery for your framing needs and you will not be disappointed.

The management read my negative review and called me with solutions to rectify the situation. I wanted to put this in the review as it indicates a level of concern with customer satisfaction. However, I will note that it doesn’t excuse the strangely sub-​par work done the first time. The gift certificate offer was not enticing to me, but I do think they care about their Unilocal reviews.

This place was fabulous. I’ve never had anything custom framed before, and Rojyar was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. He was also great about recommending cost-​saving options to work within my budget. When I got the art back, it was BEAUTIFUL, and I was very glad I listened to his mat and frame advice because it made all the difference. The prices were very reasonable, and there were also nice finishing touches, like they included a hook and nail to hang it. Superb place. I will definitely be back.

I have to agree with B.H. vis a vis being slightly bewildered as to all of the five star reviews here for Picasso. We have a framer we LOVE in Georgetown, but I always thought they were a little pricey, and figured I should find a place in the neighborhood. So, based on all the glowing reviews on Unilocal,I took a couple of items that needed to be reframed, as well as a small item I wanted to frame as a gift, and headed off to Picasso.
Upon entering the shop one is, well, less than encouraged by the general state of shabbiness about the place. The overall impression is one of a dusty kind of neglected and messy space — and not one that instills confidence that leaving a valuable piece of art in their care for framing would be a good thing to do.
The frame selection is meager, at best, and oddly (I’ve never encountered this in a framing shop before) kind of off in a corner behind the counter. The limited matt selection is in a rack, also behind the counter. As it was never offered to us for selecting mats for our works, I can’t attest to the general condition of the quality of the mats, but the general appearance of the rack from across the counter wasn’t good — dusty, tired and dog-​eared would be the adjectives I’d use. As far as examples of their framing for customers to look at and refer to there was nothing save a very beat up and dusty shadow box frame kept on the counter (so dusty even the interior of the shadow box was filled with lint and dust). I have a hard time feeling confident in a framer that doesn’t have examples for customers to see — and shouldn’t any example of offered to a customer for consideration be — well — exemplar?
Royjar seemed friendly enough, but rushed and as if he didn’t really have time to deal with us when asked for some guidance as to how to frame the small object we’d brought in. We’d hoped to mount it, floating, in a shadow box and frame it with two or three mats in complementary colors as well as a frame. Royjar offered a black matt, black frame and nothing more. No offer to go through different matt colors or textures (linen, paper, etc) with us, and no discussion as to creative ways to show off this object in it’s frame. It was odd, to say the least. There we were, ready to get creative with this item, to spend a little money on displaying this special piece in a frame and he just didn’t seem to have the time, interest or creativity to make it happen.
Finally, after giving us the black mat, black frame option (and no others — again, there are only a handful of frames on display and no mats on display) he quoted us upwards of $ 300 to have this one small item rather simply and uncreatively framed. The other items we’d brought in to reframe he also wanted between $ 250 and $ 300 each for. The kicker to all of this? Those prices were with a «30% discount»!
Well, to make a long story less long, I trekked everything over to Georgetown with me the following day to the beautiful showpiece of a framing shop we’ve always used in the past. I was nervous — if a place like Picasso’s wanted those prices, what was this high end, amazing place going to want? Well, here’s what they wanted: $ 175 each to reframe the two pieces. And, get this, after spending forty five minutes with me, sampling a dozen or more frames and even more mat and paper colors and textures, and offering several different creative ideas as to how to mount and frame the object I settled on a handmade paper covered mat as backing, a floating mount for the object, and two more mats edged in more handmade paper in two complementary colors. The frame is French, beautiful carved wood. Amazing. All of that for $ 150. Yes. $ 150. No discounts, no coupons — just incredible service, high end creativity and the highest quality products for wonderful prices.
Needless-​to-​say, our items are now in the hands of the good folks in Georgetown, and not Picasso’s. After having literally thousands of dollars worth of irreplaceable art stretched and framed or mounted and framed with them I should have known to stick with those I knew were good. But we gave Picasso’s a shot, and it didn’t work out. You never get a second chance to make a first impression — this is an idea Picasso’s would do well to embrace. Perhaps I’d go back to have a poster framed, but leave an irreplaceable object or expensive art in their care? My first impression leaves me with a definite «no».

Okay, so this is my first review on Unilocal,and allow me to explain how my experience with this shop has motivated me to get on here and leave a bad review.
My wife and I stopped in the shop yesterday to get an old map framed, and upon entering the store, two small dogs greeted us. I’m a dog person, so I bent down to say hello, and one of the dogs bit me! The store owner casually said, «They are not friendly.» No apology or anything. If you’re going to have dogs in your shop, you better make sure they won’t BITE your customers. Then, my wife asked about framing our map. It’s A1 size. The owner rudely said, «I’ve never heard of that,» and stared at us like we were idiots. I’m sorry that you’ve never heard of the European standard set of paper and poster sizes. You’re only a FRAMING shop!
Overall, we felt like they didn’t want our business, and we almost didn’t stay to get a quote from them after our rude welcome in the first five seconds. Go elsewhere with your business.

UPDATE: Rojyar from Picasso contacted me several days after my visit to his store and sincerely apologized for my experience. He was actually very kind, and did more than necessary to rectify the situation. He went as far as to offer me a $ 100 gift card or 50% a framing order. I certainly appreciate the gesture, and have edited my score from 1 star to 3 stars. While a sincere apology does go a long way, I still did have an unpleasant experience on my visit to the store. Thanks for paying attention to the sentiment of your customers, Picasso.

I think it’s really bizarre that there are 14 FIVE STAR reviews of this place. I’ve gone in twice — once a painting by a Peruvian artist in their gallery was supposed to cost $ 2,000 — I did research on this guy, including asking Peruvian friends who are plugged into the arts scene, and from everywhere the response was incredulous and ‘rip off.’ I went in a second time to ask about stretching a $ 20 African fabric onto a canvas in a cost-​effective way (no framing) and was told the cheapest they could do was $ 250. I’d say this place is probably ok, but I’m certainly surprised at the 14 full star reviews. Fishy.

Basically, Rojyar is the ****ing man! If I could give Picasso Gallery more than 5 stars, I would.
First, I went in and was able to to give him an idea of what I wanted (including what I was willing to spend) and he brought out a variety of options. I didn’t feel pressured or uncomfortable to choose a certain option and all of his recommendations were spot on. On top of that, he had my picture framed over 3 weeks early!
But wait, here is the best part. I called earlier to see if I would be able to carry the thing back to Arlington and he told me that he upgraded my frame choice to one I really liked, but was a little out of my price range. The sole reason was that he thought it would look better than the one I picked. I couldn’t even wait until after I picked it up to Unilocal about it,
Not only will I be going back, I am telling everyone I know that this is the hands-​down absolute best place to go for all your framing needs! (And you should, too.)

This shop is a serious gem. We brought four very important, some irreplaceable, pieces to get framed. We walked out spending under $ 1,000 (quite impressive due to the fact that one piece was a large poster), and that’s completely due to the fact that Rojyar offered us a super nice discount. He even upgraded one of the frames to a nicer one after we’d left — just because! I can’t believe it. Everything was ready early, it all looks amazing — we are so happy. Don’t bother going to Michael’s with your 40% off coupon — you might spend less here, and you’ll definitely get a better result. They’re the best!

Picasso Gallery Custom Framing is the best store in the Dupont area. It is a family-​owned frame shop with top quality framing material and workmanship. They are proud of their quality and puts a guarantee behind their work and pricing. The store is bright and sunny with some art works that are available for sale. When I was there, a couple came by with a broken frame and they trusted Picasso store to fix it. Owner Royjar gave them very honest suggestions and even gave them recommendation for someone to put an anchor on the wall to better support the frame. I took my Craigie on Main menu to be framed and there were lots of beautiful frames to choose from, Royjar gave me several suggestions from the framing board to the wood grain. The finish work was perfect and beautiful, probably too nice for a piece of menu. I was extremely happy with my frame and I know it will last me a long time. Picasso is a great store — in terms of quality and service, you will feel safe especially when you have a precious artwork that needs someone who cares about what they do and do a good job.

This place is the ABSOLUTE BEST!!! I have been looking for an honest, inexpensive custom framer for years, but they’re all crooks. It’s a total racket! But not Picasso. This place is the real deal. Top-​notch quality and the best customer service. I’m recommending Picasso to everyone! Right on!

This is simply the best framer in town. Great selection of frames. The staff take the time to help you find the perfect frame for your picture. They are no pressure. The framing is completed professionally in a reasonable amount of time. I can not tell you how happy I am to have found Picasso Framing! If there were such a thing as 6 stars, I’d give them all to this merchant.

I am really impressed by this place! I had a picture that I needed to have framed. The guy behind the counter was very patient with me as I tried at least 20 different frame samples against my picture. Framing a picture is expensive so you want to make sure you get a quality place that does it right. I am really pleased with the professionalism and care that I received. I seem to find something that needs to be framed once a month. I know for sure this is my new frame shop. Keep up the good work Picasso!
