Flippin’ fantastic! So cool you get to customize your own, I took the half and half route half mushroom truffle Sauce half Alfredo. You can get crazy with the toppings and the only extra is shrimp a total steal for 10 $. The pizza tastes fresh and delectable. If I lived here full time I would come back again and again…

Bottom Line: Delicious, customized pizza at the top of the U Street Metro station for $ 10.
I heart &pizza. I fell in love with the food, concept and pricing about over a year ago and I continue to go into DC to eat &pizza. So far, I’ve made it to three different &pizza locations. What I like about this location is that it is at the top of the U Street Metro station. There is just something amazing about riding up the escalator and seeing that familiar ampersand at the top. Also, the «tribe members» here are super smilely and nice. Also, if you sit at the windows in front of the metro escalator, there is some good people watching.
If you are not familiar with the &pizza concept, it is as follows: The &pizza tribe members will pile your generously sized personal pizza with as many ingredients as you’d like before putting it through the conveyor belt oven and charging you a thrifty $ 10. The process goes something like this:
— Select your crust
— Specify your sauce (or sauces, get creative!)
— Choose your cheese
— Pick your veggies
— Add some proteins (including faux meat and a fresh cracked egg)
— The pizza is quickly baked
— Add some finishing touches (parmesan, fresh basil, garlic, oil, etc.)
— Enjoy your masterpiece.
I’m not totally sure, but this location might only have traditional crust whereas others have ancient grains and gluten free options. My go to used to involve artichoke hearts but &pizza, or at least this location no longer has them.
The pizzas are intended to be personal pizzas but its a lot to eat for one person. Of course you can share with others in your party but that takes away from the customization concept a bit. Instead of sharing, I like to save my leftovers for later.
One of the downsides of this location is that they don’t have a diet cola option on their craft fountain soda machine. Also, the stools at the front window seats are way too high for the counter. Unless your thighs are only 4″, you won’t be able to sit here comfortably.

Love this spot! We have been on the hunt for a new go-​to pizza place since Homemade Pizza Co packed up a while ago. &pizza has great ingredients and lots of options. We ate here once– it’s small and has a big communal table which suited us fine. Their craft sodas are delish! We did take out last night and pizza was still hot and not soggy by the time we got home. I tried the ancient grains crust last night and it didn’t taste much different than their regular crust (which I like bc I definitely felt healthier eating it and got to rib my husband!). Really good value, too– lots of leftovers!

I am obsessed with this place and can’t wait to go back!!! I’ve moved to the city, just a block or so away from &pizza. We went for pizza halfway through moving everything into the new apartment. I had bacon, meatball, tomato sauce, garlic ricotta, fresh mozzarella, and arugula. My dad had the pineapple jack and loved it as well. I just can’t get over the unlimited toppings. You can’t go wrong with &pizza. I am just wondering what the new boxes say because we couldn’t make out the writing lol. I must try the sodas as well because I noticed those on the way out.

Awww why?! They have NO dough ready and the line is out the door! They are short staffed and have no organization to their madness. People are literally walking out because the wait is ridiculous :(

&pizza isn’t your typical late-​night pizza joint. In fact, as an establishment, it has grown wildly in popularity over the past few years, which you can see anytime between 11PM and closing when the line is winding out the door. They clearly make a commitment to using fresh, locally-​sourced ingredients, which is a huge plus in my book.
I’ve been having weirdness with wheat lately so I’m on a gluten-​free diet of late, and I was happy to see that they not only offer gluten-​free crust, but also prepare it apart from the other pizzas (without you having to ask). They also put my pizza on a different rack from the ones with regular crust, which is another good sign that they take it seriously.
The first time I came here, I was a smidgen confused by the assembly line, but only because I was expecting to see a menu behind all the workers, like at Chipotle. I still think this would be useful, because unless you go here all the time, you probably aren’t sure which of the dozens of options you’d like to get (which isn’t a bad thing).
They have a great variety of sauces, veggie toppings, a few proteins, and my FAVORITE — the «finishes.» I got a custom pizza with the gluten-​free crust, vegan mozzarella, chicken, meatballs, arugula, garlic oil, sundried tomatoes, and a little red pepper. It was a really nice combo, and there is a dizzying array of combinations that you can get.
One kind of cool thing I noticed is that they will also put egg on your pizza if you ask, like in Argentina and a few other countries I can think of. They’ll crack it right onto your pizza and bake it up.
I haven’t tried the craft sodas, but it looks like they have good options. The few times I’ve been here, the service has been hit or miss, but never actually bad. One thing that grinds my gears is that they don’t have water — at all. I asked for a water cup and the cashier said, «We don’t have water cups.» Thinking she might have meant that they had run out of cups, I just kept it moving. My friend asked the same question of the guy at the «finishes“station, and he said that they had removed the water option from the machine altogether. No lie, I thought having free water was required in U.S. restaurants or something, but maybe I’m wrong.
There is some seating inside, and we were lucky to snag two seats tonight. There is often no available space inside, but at least they do have indoor seating. This place has a very different (read: less crazy) vibe than Miss Angelina’s pizza a few blocks down, and the two really can’t be compared. I’d say they’re probably the two most popular pizza places on U Street, and both deliver. As long as &pizza sticks to how they source their ingredients, I think they’ll be in big business for a long time to come.

This place struck me as the type of late-​night pizza joint that we are all very accustomed to after a night out on the town, only this one is (A. a chain, and (B. slightly classier than most.
The wait time here at around 1AM on a Saturday (erm, Sunday by that point) was nuts. My plus one and I waited in line probably about 20 minutes, then had a rude encounter with the gal putting the lettuce + toppings on the pizza at the very last station (after we paid). I mistakenly called the arugula ‘rucola’ (as it is referred to in the homeland) and she got all sassy with me. «You want what? …what?» Our pizzas were $ 20 total; I nibbled on mine on the walk to the Metro and devoured the rest when I got home. It satisfied the late-​night, post-​drinking hunger but I would not go out of my way to order from here again.

&Pizza is the place for late night grubbing on U St. Visited recently with a friend, admittedly as newbies we were overwhelmed with the crowd and process of ordering, but the staff was friendly and guided us along the process, helping to craft the perfect pie for each of us. Definitely a nice friendly and delicious experience.

I love their pizza, especially the fact that you get to make your own pizza. My fav sauce is with pesto.
Downside: I was really paranoid if I will get sick from the pizza because the employee was not using gloves when rolling the pizza dough. Even if you guys are super busy, please make sure the stations are sanitary and workers are wear gloves.

I will have to say that this one in particular was less cleanly than the other ones I have been to. I do have to mention that I came here late at night on a Saturday night. People were drunk and the employees were not hygienic when handling everyone’s food. I did not drink that night so I was completely sober. There was a guy with long dreadlocks. His dreads were touching the pizza crust before they were sent over to toppings. I also noticed his dread touching some of the toppings. The topping assembly line was a MESS. The toppings were spread out everywhere on the counters and on the floor. It was a mess. I mean they were super busy so I did not mind it much though. But, it was not as hygienic as the other locations I have been to.

Delicious, fair price ($ 10/​large individual pie) & ample toppings. My personal fav is the Farmers Daughter on multigrain crust — LOVE when pizza places let you pick your crust!
Quick & friendly service make it a good lunch break (or late night — hey! no judgment) spot.

I’m in love with &pizza! Wow I really hope it expands to more cities! I’m just amazed that someone has finally figured out how to do pizza chipotle-​style, with an assembly line of delicious, fresh ingredients and speedy service.
I designed my own pizza with traditional crust, mushroom truffle sauce, fresh mozzarella, sausage, pepperoni, an egg, tons of veggies, and garlic oil and arugula toppings. It baked at lighting speed and came out perfectly crusty and delicious — like, how is that even possible? My only complaint was that the server kind of crushed my egg, breaking the yolk by accident. The servers also don’t seem to like it when you read your ingredients out to them all at once, so do it as you would at Chipotle.
I would definitely come again, as my pizza here was actually one of the best I’ve ever had!

This was my first time at &pizza and to be honest, it left a lot to be desired.
This place isn’t very intuitive to newbies. There are no distinct signs or menu boards posted, nor signs identifying what toppings and sauces are. Fortunately, the workers will tell you which is which if you ask, but the place gets crowded and hectic quickly that who really has time for that.
There are small menu cards that come on tiny clipboards that should be in their box mounted to the wall where you enter/​exit and across from where you order. The placement of the latter makes sense, except that all of the menus were taken and left at the cash register — which is too little too late. As for the former, I didn’t notice these until on my way out — not good placement if you ask me.
I ordered the moonstruck pizza, and quite frankly, I don’t think they made it right. I had read amazing reviews about &pizza, as well as the moonstruck. But the flavor profile that many Unilocalers have described and what I actually got didn’t match up.
Here’s what my pizza consisted of: mushroom truffle, mushroom «blend» (although it wasn’t very «blendy»… Just tasted like plain mushrooms), and topped with Arugula, Parmesan, and sun dried tomatoes. No crumbled goat cheese, fig Marsala, red pepper chili oil, or cracked black pepper. Not very moonstruck if you ask me, despite the multiple times it was referred as one by the staff. «Moonstruck pizza coming down the line!» «We got a moonstruck!» I guess I’m still trying to figure out where it went wrong. The closest explanation that I can come up with is that the employees got confused when I asked for extra toppings that didn’t go on the «moonstruck» — are customizations not allowed???
In terms of taste, the pizza tasted okay — three stars. But to me, it wasn’t quite pizza because it hardly had any cheese and the mushroom truffle sauce flavor was pretty mild. The crust was also dry and overall, it resembled more of a flatbread than pizza crust. I did like that they were generous with the arugula and sundried tomato toppings. But still not a moonstruck — pretty disappointing.
The pizza costs about $ 10 which is worth the size and toppings. I had a couple slices for leftovers, but if you sit there long enough, you could probably eat it in one sitting.
They have handcrafted sodas and I tried the dark cherry cola, white birch, and root beer. They also have some fruity soda offerings. Their sodas were the highlight of the night because they’re something different — definitely worth trying.
I recognize the greater selection and quality of toppings that &pizza has to offer compared to other pizza joints, but as eager and excited as I was to try &pizza for the first time, after this experience, I feel discouraged to come back. If I do go back, I recommend going with a build your own option to minimize confusion.

I had a very interesting experience with &pizza last week — but I’m not sure if the error was on their end, or on DoorDash’s since I ordered through them. I’ve heard great things about &pizza, so it has been on my list to try pretty much since moving to the area. The thing that attracted me this particular day though was the fact that they offer artichoke hearts as a topping — and I was very much in the mood for these.
Anyway, I got a custom pizza. My order was screwed up the first time, but the second time it was done right. It was phenomenal. You can order tons of toppings — which all taste fresh, and they’re very vegetarian friendly. The menu says their dough contains fish ingredients (which I am iffy about and want to ask because this will definitely deter me from ordering again), but it says they are vegan. So that gets me slightly self-​conscious and paranoid.
Regardless, I got traditional dough, classic tomato sauce, AND tomato olive pesto sauce, housemade mozzarella, artichoke, arugula, basil leaves, caramelized onions, cherry tomatoes, crumbled goat cheese, oregano oil, roasted peppers, and spinach. What DIDN’T I get, right?
I think the things that «made» this pizza fantastic for me though were mainly the combination of the classic tomato sauce, the tomato olive pesto sauce, and the artichoke. The bites that I got all three of those things in them felt like fireworks in my mouth.
Next time I come here I would want to come in person. But whatever I got was fantastic. Looked a bit messy, but it was in a cute long pizza box. One side got soggy so when I didn’t touch it – but I suppose that’s my fault for getting so many toppings.

Delicious, fast, affordable pizza made-​to-​order to your delightfully perfect palate. What could be better? Except for the gluten-​free crust and a few of the premium toppings, it’s probably just going to cost you $ 10 for whatever you want. It’s heaven for pizza lovers who hate menus with pre-​set mixes of ingredients and who like to change up the mix regularly.
John B. and Pegah Y. already said everything that can be said. This place is a win-​win for everyone in your party. No one has to share, everyone gets exactly what he/​she wants. The pizza is also nicely cut for you before eating.
I love the choice of crusts — Ancient Grains is vegan and more fun than just regular. The number of sauces is ridiculous. You could go here every day for a year and always get something different. They label everything that is veg*n as V or V* (vegan), which is amazing. The toppings are so fabulous, I don’t know why you would be unhappy. You can be boring, simple, complicated, gourmet or somewhere in the middle. It’s up to your mood.
I like that you can finish with some fresh unbaked toppings like arugula and basil. I heart the fresh veggies galore, including spinach and broccoli, mushrooms and tomatoes. So many great choices.
The staff is on point and get things made quickly. This is a well-​oiled machine, and no one seems cranky or unhappy despite the mad rushes. Awesome. Everyone here seems pretty happy and ready to wait for their pizza, too.
The location is great for the U Street partying crowd, and the hours, hello! Open until 4 am on the weekends. I heart this location. Pizza is great, but when you are starving post-​partying/​bar-​hopping, hello &pizza. Thank you.

I am really hit or miss on this &pizza location. The pizza themselves are pretty good, but the wait time and the staff vary drastically.
I tend to never go in here when the line is very long. I’m sure it’s just as long of a line as a Quiznos would be or something like that, but it always takes people a long time to decide what they want since there are so many choices.
The pizza itself is pretty good. They have a lot of vegetarian options, but I always opt for the meat options. They do have very good ingredients, and I always like an egg on my pizza. For a quick fix for pizza, this is a very good option.
The most recent time I went to this location, my partner ordered a salad, and the woman gave him a blank stare because she said people never order salads here. …OK? She basically had no idea what was in the salad, so that backed up the line a while.
It’s kind of pricey, but the quality of the ingradients are very good, so I definitely take that into account.

How can you not love this place? Quick, made to order pizza with delicious, quality ingredients! Whenever I hangout on U Street I always stop by &Pizza on my way home. Back in the day, you’d go to Ben’s Chili Bowl at the end of the night. Just goes to show how much the area has changed over the years!
You have your choice of sauce, veggies and protein on the assembly line. Despite the vast amount options, I always get the same combo of veggies and pepperioni. The toppings added at the end are my FAVORITE part. I always look forward to the fresh parm, whole leaves of fragrant basil, balsamic, and garlic sauce. OMG soooooooo good. Service is always speedy. Pizzas are $ 10 if you don’t get shrimp as a topping. I think they have quite a few signature menu options. Haven’t tried those and I’m not sure how much they cost.
This place is almost always packed. Usually never anywhere to sit either. I always take mine to go for that reason. Wish they had the corner spot instead of Starbucks because &Pizza needs the extra room and outdoor seating.

One of the best locations; &pizza at U street is literally right at the Metro and has quickly become a neighborhood staple. Also, there’s no Bill Cosby painting on the side of this place, so that’s a plus. As always, a delicious and nutritious pizza will be assembled before your eyes. This location has recent been retooled to more clearly separate vegetables from non-​vegetables on their counter, which I appreciate.
Some thoughts on ingredients:
While always diverse and special diet friendly, their ingredient selection has added more of a clear seasonal rotation, which I like. I’m a tad disappointed that they cut falafel (admittedly not my favorite of the veggie proteins, but I got it now and then). Nonetheless, keeping things fresh is important. Whatever toppings there are, I still consider spicy chickpeas mandatory.

Visiting from Florida, a friend told us to check this place out and said it would «change our lives.» I was skeptical but it’s such a simple concept but well executed — so yeah, I’d say it was life changing in that now I’m scouring Central Florida to find a pizza place like this one because we loved it that much!
These flat bread style crusty creations can be customized by you or you can try one of their unique blend of ingredients. I let them be the experts — we ordered the Gnarlic which is an amazing blend of cheeses including ricotta with lots of you guessed it… Garlic! It’s optional comes with salami but I opted without. This pie melts in your mouth with an abundance of flavor and the crust — the crust was crunchy from the oven but soft inside, I ate all my crust and my boyfriends too! No pizza bones left behind! He went with a simple pie with spicy tomato sauce & cheese with beef. The sauce was robust, and had the perfect heat for a pizza. A+.
I love the craft soda machine — what a unique concept! I mean craft sofas aren’t new but usually bottled. &pizza creates their own with seasonal brews and you gets refills!!! The décor was black & white photo images with metal/​wood accents. There are not a lot of seats but we snagged some stools by a window while we devoured our food. Friendly staff, quick service /​the wait for the piece was only about 7 min from the time we placed our order. Even their boxes are cool — well executed concept… Now please expand to Florida!
