Reiter, Hill, Johnson & Nevin

I would never recommend this practice. After my annual exam showed abnormal cells, I had a subsequent colposcopy and three biopsies. A week later I found out that I had cervical cancer from an EMAIL. Neither my physician nor any staff member called me to disclose these alarming results, and the practice refused to discuss my results over the phone. It took 5 days of desperate pleading before I was able to discuss my results with a professional, which of course was an in office visit that I had to pay for.
Reiter, Hill, Johnson & Nevin, caused me significant distress, fright, and frustration. It is completely unacceptable for a patient to not receive any sort of contact when she most desperately sought it. I must call into question several of the medical practice’s methods. First, the fact that they would email abnormal test results, especially those indicating an unknown carcinoma, to a patient without follow up or context is completely unacceptable. Second, the practice refused to provide a medical professional over the phone who could comment on the test results to an obviously distressed patient is also unacceptable. Finally, the fact that we sought medical assistance but were denied multiple times, and were never actually contacted by the clinician who performed my testing, is in itself distressing and unacceptable.

First of all, the standard of medical care here is great. Every medical provider I’ve encountered here has been fantastic (especially Lauren Gordon). The problem with this office is that it is frustratingly disorganized, and it seems like they are trying to see more patients than they really have the capacity to see. Calling the office can be a nightmare — I’ve been on hold as long as 20 – 30 minutes. On a few occasions, I’ve felt like the people who answer the phones weren’t really equipped to help. Obviously they are not doctors, but I feel like there should be a better protocol for their answering basic medical questions. For instance, I once scheduled a colpo, then had to reschedule it because I got my period, and of course they were booked into perpetuity. An understandable issue, but I was frustrated because I knew the window for getting a colpo after a pap was only 4 – 6 weeks, and no one at their front desk could address my concerns about booking an appointment well beyond that window. I just wanted to know if it was urgent enough for me to find another provider to do it, and no one could give me an answer.
Waiting times are bad, too. Last month I showed up 10 min early for an appointment, and still had to wait an HOUR to be seen. Then more long waits for the doctor. My office is only a couple blocks away, but the wait times here are such that I can’t reliably pop out for an hour or two — if I book a mid-​day appointment at Reiter Hill, I can’t tell my boss when to expect me back.
This place has great doctors but could really benefit from a little remodeling and some patient/​staff ratio adjustments.

Reiter Hill was some of the best healthcare I experienced. As a stand alone Doctor GW was best but their billing would cause a healthcare scandal. Reiter Hill had high level of care and no crazy billing.
It isn’t surprising a large number of young professionals use this location when they are expecting. And for that, I imagine if you want service in a hurry they are not going to be able to accommodate you. But not really. My last visit I had a health concern and they saw me the next day as I was flexible about who I saw.
I like them and I have a feeling many people do to. This seems to be the location of choice for many.

I like the doctors, nurses and nurse practitioners and have been going for some time. Very friendly and helpful. I am giving only 3 stars due to the wait time. At least 30 minutes after you get to room. Every time. Bring a book. On a recent visit, I waited 45 minutes. My visit lasted only about 5 minutes.

Don’t want to get too descriptive, but I ended up getting an infection after going to Reiter, Hill, Johnson, and Nevin due to a doc’s inability to tell the difference between two orifices. I would absolutely NOT recommend this place.

I finally had to give up on this office even though it is in such a convenient location. I cannot stand to have another infuriating conversation with the front desk staff. I gave them a second chance this last year because I spoke with the new manager who said it was his priority to improve customer service, but my interactions with the staff continue to be combative and unpleasant.

I am an existing patient, albeit an annual one, so I thought booking an appointment would be simple. Man, was I wrong. I called six times and was put on hold more than 10 minutes each occasion. Any busy woman who needs a BC refill knows this is super annoying. I finally just realized it’s probably easier to book an appointment with a new doctor — and one that has ZocDoc or an online booking service. Who only offers appointment bookings by phone today? It’s 2015. So, they’ve just lost a patient. Not like they care, as clearly they’re too busy to answer the phones.

Start with the good: I love Lauren Gordon. I think she’s extremely attentive, willing to answer questions, and generally thoughtful. She’s the reason I continue to go to this office. Also they open early, so that’s a perk!
The bad: pretty much everything noted by others. You have to chase down lab results. Easier to get on a spaceship trip to Mars than make an appointment within a week. I haven’t been thrilled with any of the other docs I’ve seen, either. They all seemed rushed and distracted, including my ultrasound tech.

The Good: Dr. Gibson is very attentive and supportive. When I’ve met with her the past few times, I had a good experience. The office is located in a convenient area.
The Bad: Basically everything else. If you’re a new patient, you have to put down a $ 40 deposit for your first appointment. Expect to be put on hold for at least 10 minutes if you call. My most recent experience has just been a nightmare. My birth control prescription required prior authorization from insurance, and the office refused to work with my pharmacist to make this happen. I have been trying to sort this out for three days now, and every time I call I speak to a different employee who gives me a different answer. I work full-​time, and I’m put on hold for 15 minutes every time I call, so this has been extremely time consuming. Just because they won’t accept communication from my pharmacist and don’t want to contact insurance on my behalf!

I am giving three stars because Flynn Millard, who I see for my annual check-​ups, is fantastic. I have been seeing her for three years, I think, and she remembers me, takes time to talk, helped me with pre-​pregnancy stuff, and she’s just got a really great, open, comfortable style (in a situation that’s not at all comfortable). She’s not judgemental, she’s really knowledgeable — I would recommend her to anyone.
But, the rest of the practice is what everyone says it is. You usually wait forever. I just found out that they charge for walk-​in appointments, and your insurance doesn’t cover it. Even though my insurance covers all lab work 100%, and you don’t see a doctor for those things, there is an administrative fee of $ 17. They don’t tell you that, and it’s just another annoyance to add to the pile. I’m pregnant now, and I switched out of there because they only deliver at Sibley. I don’t love my new place, either, though, so good luck, everyone.

Last time, I said I quit but was having an issue (that still isn’t resolved a year+ later) so I’m really quitting. I always wait at LEAST 30 mins past my appointment time. ALWAYS.
Absolutely horrible & I don’t care if my uterus is literally falling out, I will never ever return to this hellhole place.
Dr. Johnson seems nice & attentive but I have nothing else good to say.

Unfortunately, a doctor’s office is only as good as its office procedures and reception. I’ve been with this practice for a few years now, and the only reason I haven’t switched is due to geographic convenience (& let’s be honest, Dr. Sedghi is an awesome GYN. Unfortunately, not also an OB…)
Expect never to be able to reach reception if you need to ask a question, make an appointment, or change an appointment. Expect to be hung up on if you actually do manage not to hang up in frustration after 20 minutes of being on hold. Expect front desk receptionists not to be able to answer basic questions about what to expect for your appointment (will it be a long one? will there be a sonogram? are we going to review test results?) and expect never to see the same doctor (or NP) more than once.
One star for geographic location and one star for Dr. Sedghi… and 0 stars for the rest of it.

This is a large practice and I have returned here from time to time over the years. I found the level of care ranging from indifferent to sincere, but nothing outstanding.
What is unacceptable, though, is the culture, practice ethic, and general attitude of the staff, from phone answerer to practice manager.
They have three locations and it is up to you to call the correct one to get a call back from your doctor. Otherwise, their ineffective way of relaying phone messages is to «send a fax», to the office where the doctor is for the day. Said fax may not be received by the doctor for up to a week, however. If this is unacceptable to you, be prepared to spend a looong time getting any info or on hold. You get either disinterested front desk who couldn’t be bothered or saccharin sweet «management» who offer nothing.
No, you will not receive a call back with your results; you’ll have to chase it down. Need a prescription for a biopsy? Good luck. My doc said she never received the message (which, of course, both I and the radiologist left.)
I waited 45 minutes for an exam recently. No one bothered to tell me it was b/​c my records were at another location and they couldn’t find them. That was weeks ago, and they’re still lost.
Just avoid at all costs.

I’ve been a patient with RHJN for 2 years now and I think they’re pretty good. I’ve seen Dr King (there’s two kings at their VA office, I saw the male one) and he is great. I was nervous trying a new Gyn after a bad experience with a different Gyn in the area and was pleasantly surprised. Dr King was great, he didn’t make me feel rushed or like my questions were stupid and it felt like he took the time to get to know me. I haven’t gone through their OB services (yet) but I would feel comfortable with having them for my OB when the time comes. I also had to change my name and insurance after I got married and haven’t had any issues.
1 star off because I did end up having to wait awhile after my appointment was supposed to start to get in, nothing a good book couldn’t fix.

This practice is HORRIBLE!
I went to this office after moving to DC from LA. I was following up on a prior irregular Pap. I didn’t hear anything back and assumed my Pap was now normal. NOPE they just forgot to call me and tell me I had another irregular Pap and needed to come in for another colpo. I only found this out SEVEN months later when I called confused why my birth control perscription wasn’t refilled. After calling and being put on hold for 20+ minutes FIVE TIMES they finally were able to schedule me to see the doctor. When I finally arrived for my appointment Dr. Gordon is confused because she hadn’t heard any of this drama and was concerned about a break down in communication in her office. She did another Pap said I would hear results in a week and said my BC script was being sent to my pharmacy in about an hour. Four days later I check with my pharmacy… and you guessed it NO PRESCRIPTION. I’m going to a new place that actually cares about my health ASAP.

Someone from this office had the audacity to write back to me saying that they are under new management and to give them another chance. This place is a joke!
I just tried calling these people again in an attempt to get a nuva ring renewal since I haven’t found a new OB-​GYN yet (FYI — they just refuse to respond to the pharmacy, very convenient, right?). After leaving me on hold for over 15 minutes they just auto transferred me to billing. I have amazing health insurance — the woman, named Cathy who I spoke to is too lazy to just call my insurance company and have them run the billing — I am expected to call them instead.
THESE PEOPLE REFUSE ANY KIND OF SERVICE UNTIL YOU FIX BILLING ISSUES WITH YOUR INSURANCE CREATED BY THEIR OWN LAZY AND INCOMPETENT STAFF.
WORST DOCTORS IN DC! This place should be shut down.
To whomever reads these things — stop commenting, and responding that you have changed your ways. You have not.

The last time I called I had to wait 20 minutes for someone to answer the phone. I had to call the office 5 times for them to send my prescription to my online prescription service. Forget about transferring medical records. The front desk service is just awful here.

I’ve been coming to Reiter, Hill, Johnson and Nevin for the past seven years and I’ll continue to do so – as long as Nurse Practitioner Flynn Millard is there. Flynn is absolutely great. She is very personable and made me feel totally comfortable. I went to see her a month after my annual last year when I felt a lump and she gave me a referral. She told me that the next available appointment would be for that Friday (I went to her office on a Monday afternoon) and in the meanwhile, I should get off the internet. I told her that I’ve already gone on the internet and then I started crying. She gave me a hug and that meant a lot to me. I know she has a lot of patients coming in and out of her office but it feels good to know that she didn’t treat me like a number (the lump turned out to be a cyst). The front desk staff is okay – nothing memorable but nothing terrible. I’ve mostly gone to the DC location but lately, I’ve been going to the Chevy Chase location because appointments in DC are hard to come by which is annoying because I work really close to the DC office. If you need to make an appointment, I suggest calling around 8:30 a.m. because the later you wait, the longer the hold times are.

I’ve been a patient here for years and I’ve never been super impressed with the front desk attendants and the wait times are generally pretty bad. However, today my appointment time lasted two hours. I waited for Mona in the DC office for more than 45 minutes. This is after getting a sono and then had to wait longer for blood work and setting appointments. They are so packed that I can’t even get an appointment the week I need one and so it has to be pushed to another week.
This appointment was supposed to be happy and instead I walked out disappointed and frustrated. I’m considering giving the practice one more chance. I have mostly visited the Chevy Chase office and although the waiting rooms are packed and it has a factory feel the staff have at least been friendly.
The place was impersonal, I was just some patient who they needed to check the box with to make sure they gave me a folder of papers.

I scheduled a same-​day walk in for a UTI. They took a urine sample, put me on Macrobid, and told me my results would take 72 hours to come in. That evening I started the Macrobid and immediately had flank pain. I called back in the morning and was put on Bactrim. It’s been 9 days and still no test results. I’ve called and was told that someone would get back to me the next day. When something is supposed to take 72 hours and it’s already late, doesn’t it make sense to expedite this info for the patient?
What if I’ve been on the wrong antibiotic this whole time for the culture? Does RHJN just believe that this is just out of their hands?
