Necip Gunes Is a hair genius. He cuts every single hair on your head to perfection and then goes back and makes sure it’s perfect the 2nd time around. All in under an hour and I have very long hair. The blow out was equally stunning. He’s a master. Best I’ve ever had and I will be back even though I live in OKlahoma. It’s worth the trip!

Franck was extremely knowledgable, gave me a really thoughtful consultation, and knew how to do layers for my curly hair better than any stylist I’ve been to. Best haircut I’ve had in nearly 15 years in DC.
The salon experience is great, too. Friendly, and they gave me iced tea and chocolate tea biscuits when I arrived a bit early!
I definitely recommend. Also bring cash for tipping.

I am a big fan of Tracy at Saint Germain. She does my highlights and haircuts which have all turned out to be amazing. She aims to please and really wants the customer to leave happy. How refreshing! The Salon also caters to customers and wants to ensure that everyone feels welcome and comfortable. I never feel like i’m being rushed during my appointments or that the stylists are overbooked. It is expensive, but not much more than most other salons in DC. You get what you pay for and it’s worth it!

Tracy is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!! She listens to my needs and does exactly what I say and I just LOVE my hair cut and color every single time. Since I have been going to Tracy I can finally relax and know that I am in good hands. Where has she been all my life ha!!! but seriously I am not kidding. Tracy also engages when we talk and genuinely cares. Can’t get any better then this! Also, the salon is awesome!!! Roy gives the best shampoos ever. If I could afford to go every week I just would:) To the owner– keep up the good work, great job selecting these people.

Michael did a lovely job. I’m so pleased with my cut. I was unhappy with the cut I got 5 weeks ago at a different salon. I have light curly hair and the previous stylist didn’t listen to me and didn’t understand my hair. In fact most stylists don’t and I rarely get a cut like Michael’s, so I think I have found my new guy! Only downside is the price – $ 100 base is hefty. I guess you get what you pay for because the previous cut was $ 65, and the only other stylist I’ve been really happy with (though he’s in LA) charges around $ 100 as well. It’s worth it because the $ 65 cut was a waste.

Amazing amazing place! I recently moved to DC and put off getting my hair cut for MONTHS because I was nervous about finding a new hairdresser. I booked an appointment with Terri and was so impressed with the whole experience. We talked over what I was thinking for at least 15, then after getting a wonderful shampoo I sat back and let her do her thing while I enjoyed a coffee. After finishing the cut Terri showed me how to style my new hair in two different ways, and she answered all my questions about product. The price is definitely on the higher end for haircuts but it was worth every penny.

This place is the best. Terri is a genius with cuts. She is incredibly passionate about her craft and I love her work. When I moved from NYC I did a lot of research to find someone I could trust with hair and this was a great choice. I have been coming back consistently for two years. I go to Tyler for highlights and she always does as amazing job as well. The cuts/​color are not cheap, but I find it to be reasonable and much less expensive than NYC salons. It is a great investment and the salon is not too stuffy and I find I am usually able to get an appointment within a few weeks.

I’ve gone twice to Terri at St. Germain after moving to the DC area. She is amazing! She took the time to ask what cut I wanted, showed me photos of the cuts she was thinking of for me so that we were on the same page, and also took into account the amount of time I spend on my hair (not much). After the cut, she showed me different ways to style as well. Yes, she’s expensive but the cut is so good I shouldn’t need to go back for four months!

Needed my bangs cut badly, really badly as they were poking me in the eyes. Cedric cut them. Asked how I liked them, actually listened, clarified then started trimming. I don’t even live in DC but I think I’m going to have him do my hair whenever I come to town for business or pleasure. Rare to find a hair stylist who listens to what you want.

Cedric at St. Germain has cut my hair three times. Best haircuts I have had in several years in various cities. He is an artist and you can tell that as he works. My hair is naturally wavy/​curly. He takes his time and understands the «structure» of my hair and what hairstyle compliments my face. After my third cut and with summer humidity he recommended a full keratin treatment. I got up my nerve and went for it and for the first time in years, my hair didn’t frizz with the humidity. It is easier to style and takes me far less time. Cedric is a genius. I hesitate to give this review, because I don’t want to wait 4 weeks to get an appointment. It is a little pricey, but well worth every penny. I have never been so happy with a haircut.

I always get great haircuts and service here. That’s kind of the bottom line. They are pretty pricey, but I’d rather spend $ 65 for a good cut every month or two, than $ 30 or $ 40 for a crappy cut every few weeks or month.

I don’t normally play styIist roulette, but sometimes it’s fun to try someone new, just to see how they interpret you. St. Germain is super close to work, so I called on a whim, and they had an appointment open when I was available, so I jumped on it. The cut was $ 100. I saw Necip. When I arrived there was no waiting time. I checked in, the receptionist hung up my coat, Necip greeted me, and I was off to the shampoo chair. Roy provided a very relaxing experience, with a firm but gentle head and neck massage. I think I may have drooled a bit. Or maybe a lot?
Necip got right to work. He’s not a big talker. I gave him some basic direction and he did his thing. It was one of those things where you really can’t tell how much you are going to like or dislike a cut when it’s first cut and styled. I need to go home, wash my hair and do it myself to decide if I really like it. It looked cute when I left and I was fine with it, but it was a day later that I realized how much I really liked it. It’s been three weeks and I’m obsessed with this cut. Necip is for keeps. He suggested that next time I get highlights to complete my look. I will. I can’t wait to see how my next cut will look with color too. I’m as pleased as punch. If you need someone who can cut short hair, go see Necip.

My regular stylist moved to her own space in Vienna. Great for her, bad for me who doesn’t own a car. So, I am searching for someone new.
I went in to go from a medium brown to blonde in mid-​Oct. I made an appt. for all over base color. I was scheduled with Necip Gunes. Necip is a very nice man, but his English is awful. There was a huge language barrier. I didn’t want to pay for highlights, but finally the (I assume) manager came over and explained to me that to go from my current brown to the blonde I had shown would not work. Ok, fine. So, I agreed to partial highlights (I didn’t want to pay for full foils). Thank God I didn’t pay for full foils or else my whole head of hair would currently be fried. As it was, Necip, I believe, still went too light too quickly. I left for a business trip two days after my salon visit. And when I was drying my hair in the hotel I nearly started to cry — my hair was breaking everywhere around me. My hair has always been smooth and soft. After my visit to this salon my hair is dry and brittle and breaking. And it isn’t like I wasn’t blonde before. The difference is in the time my former stylist took to take me to the lighter shade — — several visits, and not just one. My boyfriend used to love running his hands through my hair and even he notices the difference now.
Additionally, I did understand when I made the appointment that a blow-​dry would be a al carte. Stupid if you ask me. How else am I supposed to know whether I am happy with the result if I don’t get a blow dry? Anyway, so I paid for it. Tyler did a great job. BUT, that means that now I had to tip Necip, and Tyler for the blow dry and the guy at the wash basins. I had HOPED to keep this whole adventure around $ 150. Instead, with tips, and an additional toner application because of the extreme color change, I had to shell out $ 240. Speechless. (Oh, and they don’t accept tips on cards, so you have to have cash. Super annoying.)
Now, I will say, I am very happy with the color result. But not the condition of my hair. I would go back to see Tyler. She was doing color on someone while Necip was frying my hair. However, the fact that you have to pay for a blow dry separately also makes me think twice about ever going back here again.
They have agreed to give me a complimentary deep conditioning treatment. So, I am happy to report that. We’ll see how that experience goes.

Tyler is the only person I’ll see in DC to do my blonde highlights. My hair always looks natural and well blended. She’s a Cali girl, so she truly knows how to do blonde well!

Odie is a very chill, intuitive, skilled stylist. He’s been cutting my hair for a while now and I’m always happy with the results. Not the cheapest place in town but IMO totally worth it.

I was in from out of town over the weekend, and stopped in for a blowout with Tylor. It was fantastic. First of all, the iced tea that they bring you in reception was out of this world. I regret not drinking more of it!
My pre-​blowout shampooing was fantastic. The gentleman who did it massaged my scalp. Heaven! So relaxing!
As for the actual blow out, Tylor was great. I have naturally curly hair, and am usually disappointed by professional blowouts. Not this time! She did a wonderful job, and I received compliments all night long!
I would definitely recommend both the Saint Germain and Tylor!

Terri is the only person in DC I will allow to cut my hair. I almost hesitate writing a review for her because I don’t want the secret to get out, but she’s fantastic.
I have long, fine, straight hair, but a lot of it. After having great salon experience in Chattanooga, TN and Athens, GA I was a bit baffled when I kept striking out in DC. I tried Bang, I tried Urban Style Lab, I tried Blondies. Nope, nope, nope. I ended up paying about $ 60-​$ 80 each time and then immediately defaulted to pulling my hair back and bobby pinning it into place until the cuts grew out.
Then I was directed to St. Germain and Terri by the Capitol Hill Style blog. Godsend. Terri completely understands my hair type as well as what I’m always looking for. I even trusted her enough to take my normal shoulder-​blade long hair to a short bob this fall. Loved it. I always bring in pictures of what I want. Terri has a look book and we’ll go through it to show me her vision – she always finds a better version of what I thought I wanted.
Visiting their salon is always like a spa day too. You feel like you’re treating yourself.
The bad news is, it is not cheap. We’re talking «lie to your friends» expensive. I don’t even color my hair and an appointment runs me about $ 120. That being said, I live by the motto «your hair is the only thing you wear every day,» so I consider it an investment. Plus, anyone who knows the pain of a bad haircut knows the value of a good one. I’d rather pay $ 120 and know it’s going to be great, than spend $ 75 at other spots around town and hate the way it looks.

I was really happy with my haircut with Cedric and I’m sure some of the stylists here have great potential. Cedric delivered exactly what was asked and was very attentive during the process. However, the receptionist did a poor job explaining the Keratin treatment and never brought me my water. This wasn’t even a busy time of day. Next, you can’t tip your stylist unless you bring cash from outside the salon. Yes, this is more personal but the salon should be advertised to be more old school than modern if it can’t adapt to the times.
The products are high quality and the prices are reasonable — would definitely come back if I was in a rush because I live in the neighborhood. Otherwise, there are plenty of other salons that do an amazing job on hair and provide better customer service in DC.

I’ve been to St. Germain probably about 6 – 8 times without ever being wowed. My last visit was the last straw. It’s just too expensive a place to keep customers waiting for longer than a few minutes, and to be so clueless about booking.
I went in for a blowout on one my visits and was not impressed with the final results (especially not for $ 60 exclusive of tip.) But I thought I would try again with a different stylist. If St. Germain management reads this reviews, take note: if someone wants the same stylist, they’ll ask for the same stylist! It’s awkward to make someone ask to *not* be put with someone. If they love whoever they saw last, they will request that person again. If they don’t request that person, put them with someone else. I made the mistake of scheduling a second blow out without specifying any stylist, hoping the odds were that I’d get someone different. I didn’t.
Anyway, after getting the same underwhelming, expensive blowdry twice, I knew I would not make that mistake a third time. So I called to schedule a blowout and I specifically asked for a woman who’d done my color before. Early on the day of my appointment, I got a call from the salon. They asked if I would rather see that SAME GUY from the previous two times. «No,» I told them. «I would like to see who I booked the appointment with.» They said ok and acted like the call was some type of courtesy to me. (Yeah right.) I should have known something was up.
So I show up for my appointment time and am told that the girl I made the appointment with isn’t free, so I have to go with – you guessed it – that guy I didn’t like the first two times I had him. Incredible. Not only were they dishonest with me multiple times, in promising that I would see who I booked, but they then didn’t even have the common sense to put me with someone completely different that the guy I’d just said I DIDN’T want to see. Plus, they should have been able to think about it – there’s a reason this guy is ALWAYS free. And it’s not a good sign.
Their shampoo chairs are nice and the shampoo staff does a really nice job with the wash (gentle but firm massage, not too long and not too short.) The space is well appointed and relatively quiet. But none of that matters when it’s so poorly run. I’ve also seen management reprimand staff on the floor for stupid things (like moving product somewhere it shouldn’t be.) Isn’t it just common sense to keep that kind of thing away from customers?

I was sent here by my hotel for a simple blow out and it was a horrific experience overall. I arrived a few minutes late (Appt was430, I got there at 435) and proceeded to wait til 5:10 for my stylist to finish another customer. The make up counter rep spoke down to me while I waited and the staff seemed baffled I was frustrated waiting so long. The saving grace of the experience is my hair looked good once completed however by that point I was over it.
To top it off, charged $ 60 for a flipping blowout. This was DC, not Paris.

Terri is worth her weight in gold. Granted she weighs somewhere between 90 and 95 pounds, but with gold trading near $ 1,800/oz that means something.
My wife continues to swear by her and without both of them I would most likely wander town looking like a troglodyte with a «challenging» hairline and big ears.
