I think this memorial is wonderful. It is large enough to view and enjoy from street!
I like the combination of the stone and the gold!

Das Second Division Memorial hätten wir bei unserem Besuch der National Mall beinahe übersehen. Es befindet sich am Rande des Parks «The Ellipse», zwischen der 17th Street Northwest und der Constitution Avenue in Washington, DC.
Das Memorial erinnert an die Verstorbenen der 2. Infanteriedivision der US-​Armee aus dem ersten Weltkrieg und wurde vom Künstler James Earle Fraser entworfen. Es wurde am 18. Juli 1936 eingeweiht.
Im Jahre 1962 wurde es mit zwei Flügeln ergänzt, um an die Verstorbenen des zweiten Weltkriegs und den Koreakrieg zu gedenken. Eingeweiht wurde es von General Maxwell Taylor.
Das flammende Schwert in der Mitte des Memorials soll die Verteidigung von Paris vor dem deutschen Vormarsch symbolisieren
Ein eher kleineres Memorial, das man leicht übersehen kann und nicht die gewaltige Symbolik ausstrahlt, wie die neueren und aufwendiger gestalteten Memorials der National Mall.
