Driver K629 picked us up on Capitol Hill and drove to Vermont Ave area on ²⁄₁₁. Nasty, nasty, nasty as we tried to work with his busted credit card scanner. Completely rude to my colleague and clearly just pissed at the world. Ridiculous and uncalled for. No wonder Über is winning.

Left phone in cab. Track phone with find my iphone. Iphone turns off after playing sound while cab is moving 2min after getting out. Phone shows up on find my iPhone in Pakistan 6 months later. Driver was middle eastern.

Maniac cab driver (license plate number h95092) hit my car as I was driving home fr work in DC. He then sped away and when I pulled up beside him and told him he had just hit my car he got very belligerent and started shouting. When I tried to call the company to complain I couldn’t get through. Total morons.

I know that the Credit Card transition has been difficult for the drivers, but this guy in Cab 290 wasn’t even trying. And when I didn’t have enough cash he threatened to call the cops. His visor was also flipped up to hide his credentials (saw another reviewer mention this). So, I had to get out and borrow money from the friend I was meeting for lunch. When I brought him the cash he didn’t have enough change. So, he ended up walking away with a really nice tip after one of the worst taxi-​customer experiences of my life. Next time… UberX for me.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Trying to get around new credit card laws, the guy told me his card reader was broken, and said I had to pay cash. I have no cash, because legally, the cab isn’t supposed to be operating without the ability to take credit cards. I tried to explain this, very politely, and the driver started to get very angry at me. I suggested he call the company that runs the card reader machines, and he got even angrier.
His visor was flipped up, so I couldn’t see his name or driver number, but it was Silver Cab 241.
I wasn’t really afraid until the driver said he’d just come back to my house for the fare. This makes me extremely uncomfortable.
I hustled inside and called Silver Cab, which was a huge mistake because the man on the phone was even more disrespectful and ended up hanging up on me.
I’ve tried to be patient and understanding with cab drivers in this city, but this is ridiculous. I know the law and I know my rights.
Silver Cab should not be in operation.

These morons charged my credit card for $ 1,457 instead of $ 14.57 (My boyfriend and I never would with cabs but an unfortunate series of events left us with no cash). SUPER FUN.
I’m not from D. C and I wasn’t aware of the terrible taxi situation down there and unfortunately I had planned to rely on them for my entire vacation. They ruined every single morning for us. This trip was a month ago and I’m still fuming over how ridiculous the taxi situation was.

0 stars for cab #80. Coming back from a friend’s place on a Monday night (it was around 1:30am), the fare came up to $ 7.32, and I handed a $ 20 bill. The cabbie asked me how much I would like back, which I really dislike to start with, but since it was late and I just wanted to get home I told him I wanted $ 11 back. He then proceeded to count money, 1 $ 5 bill and then $ 1 bills up to $ 11 (or so I thought at first) and handed me the money thinking I would put it away and not count it. However, having had bad experience with this kind of stealing I counted the money he had given me — and it was $ 8, so I asked for the rest. He then gave me $ 1 and then when I once again asked him for the rest of the money, he acted surprised because he thought I was paying him $ 11 (for a $ 7.32 ride…). In the end I got my full $ 11, regretted that I tipped him at all (he got more than a 20% tip), but just wanted to get home. This is not the first time this happens to me in DC, cabbies assume that if you’re coming home late you had a lot to drink and they try to cheat you out of your change. Beware!

I left my iPhone in the cab (cab #724). We thought it was gone forever. A week later I see a cab slowly going up and down my street. He stops me, I think to ask if I need a ride, when instead he puts my phone out the window and asks me if I know the little girl on the back cover (a sticker of my daughter). He explained that every night after he got off of work he drove around my neighborhood looking for the owner of the phone. 6 nights he did this. Needless to say, I feel apart. Not only was Tarik (the cab driver) exceptionally honest to return the phone, the efforts he went through to return it are beyond extraordinary. People like Tarik are few and far between. The least I can do to repay him is to credit Silver Cab. Thank you!

0 Stars, one of their driver’s stole my son’s iPhone. Within 3 minutes of pulling away he powered it off to avoid being tracked. Bad, dishonest, not trustworthy. Let the Silver Cab go and grab the next guy. Wish I could give negative stars… sad and pathetic.

Leigh Z – I had the SAME guy from Reagan tonight! Most horrible experience I have ever had in a cab. I literally left the cab with my heart racing, feeling like I was about to cry or throw up because of the driver yelling at me. Same story – he asked where I was going, I told him, he asked me to repeat it so I offered the address and then he freaked out, telling me that I thought I was too smart for him, he knew where he was going, etc – and then proceeded to ask again where we were going and subsequently yell at me again. I didn’t tip him and he wouldn’t take my bag out of the trunk.
Stay away from cab #377 – his name is Enrique Hernandez, ID 0371. I am trying to find a place to formally report him but this cab company doesn’t seem to even have a complaints website… I wonder why…

I wish I could give no stars. I rode in a Silver Cab last night from the Reagan Airport to the H St NE area, as that is where I live. The driver was so rude (cab #377, beware). He never acknowledged that he knew the location I had requested, so I offered minimal directions on how to get there. He angrily interrupted me and yelled that he knew how to get there, but didn’t want to take me there. Not only did he yell at me, but I also noticed an empty liquor bottle in his front console. Terrible service. Period.

Driver was going 40 on the interstate between the holiday inn and greenbelt metro. Can only assume it was to jack up fair. To add insult to injury he shorted me a dollar on my change.

Worst cab drivers in DC… This morning it was so hot and humid I had to take a cab about 1 ½ miles to work… From Kalorama to West End. I hailed down a cab and it turned out to be a cab from this company…
The ride was OK… The cab driver did not engage in any conversation with me which was fine with me… however he was blasting news radio quite loudly.
The WORST part of the experience was when I got to my destination. The fare came to $ 5.75 so I asked for $ 14 back (and then was going to tip $ 1).
He must have been upset at the lack of tip, because he got the change for me and then threw it at me in the back seat. I then had to scramble to pick it up. He was completely rude. As you can imagine, I did not give him another cent.
Luckily, he pulled over at a stop light so I was able write down his cab number. I called the company to complain this morning and they did not handle it very well. The man who answered my call merely apologized and said he would talk to the cab driver… No other service recovery was offered.
Of all the cities I have been to in the world, DC ranks up there in worst cities for cabs… followed by Athens and Paris… Particularly because companies like Silver Cab Association hire people who are not qualified to do the job.
I am outraged and will think twice before getting into another Silver Cab.

I agree with Alex (see below). Take for example Silver Cab Association car # 19. In mid morning, in the middle of a green light, at a single lane in each direction intersection, where few taxicabs pass, this cabbie thought it was a wise idea to stop his car and pick up a passenger. Although the cabbie could have turned right and stopped safely, the direction where the passenger wanted to go, instead he succeeded in blocking the cars behind him. They could not pull around him without jeopardizing their safety.

HORRIBLE… on new years i left my phone in the back seat. When i called it right back, the cabbie picked up the call… told us to call bac in a half hour, then shut the phone off and stole it. The person at teh cab depot was then incredibly rude to me, hung up on me a number of times, and basicly was no help to the situation at all. I would never take this cab again!!!

Companies like Silver Cab Association (specifically cab # 589, DC license plate H92891) are the reason nobody has any sympathy left for DC cabs.
This clown had no clue how to get from downtown DC to Arlington. We ended up at National Airport which is the only place I think he’s ever been across the Potomac. Seeing as how I was coming out of a bar at 2am on a Saturday with no luggage this made no sense… or the fact that he said he knew where he was going when I got in no less.
20 minutes later after circling through the airport to get back on track, we arrived at the destination. A drive that should’ve taken 10 minutes took over 45. He suddenly came proficient in English to whine about his dollar tip (only because I didn’t have exact change).
Well here’s a fucking tip, if driving people in a car is your livelihood: (a) learn the area, (b) use a map, or © ask for directions.
What scum. You’re better off waiting for the Metro, or hell even the Metrobus.
However, Tanya P. is correct. There were seatbelts in the back!

Fast, friendly, efficient service and driver had fantastic recommendations. Well-​maintained taxi with 3 full shoulder belts in back.
Follow-up…We had at least 4 different drivers from the cab company during our recent trip out. All were very knowledgeable and friendly, with very extensive local history trivia for us. Most importantly, efficient routes and venue recommendations (supported by reviews on Unilocal).
