Description

Specialties

The District’s first on-site cheese making facility! We have over a hundred cheeses in our retail cheese shop, ageing caves, a creamery, unique wines and cocktails, and a full eatery with cheese-inspired, elegant comfort food in addition to fantastic cheese boards. Cheese for brunch, cheese for lunch, cheese for dinner, cheese for desert, and cheese to take home.

History

Established in 2014.

Gen and Conan O’Sullivan can be found seven days a week at the restaurant, waiting tables, bartending, tasting cheeses, working on the cheese-caves, and eventually making cheese.

Sona originates in a love story — maybe two. G & C fell in love with each other first, and the same enthusiasm that brought them together sparked an interest in their second love: making cheese. After all, cheese-making is an intricate process that requires practice, patience and a good dose of passion — ingredients that they have in spades. After seven years of making cheese in the other Washington, they were dreaming about quitting their day jobs to take the hobby on-full time.

Five years later, they’ve moved across the country and done just that. They didn’t know they’d be making recorded history by opening the first cheese-making creamery inside the District, but they did just that! «Sona» means happy in Irish, and they’re glad to share their love of cheese and wine with their new neighbors.
