Stayed right down the street from here when visiting DC. When staying at a hotel, I think it only makes sense you keep an adult beverage in the room. So, after a quick check of Unilocal,I walked over here the night I arrived. This place has some great variety and sells both wine and liquor. Yayyy for one stop alcohol shopping! The wine selection was vast and there was even a cooler stocked with some delicious dessert wines and champagne. Most liquors are located behind the register, but easy enough to see. Unfortunately, this place lacks organization due to its tiny tiny size. It also seems they could use a day of cleaning, because some bottles were covered in dust. Not quite the vintage I’m going for. Lastly, customer service doesn’t exist. It was empty when I went in and although you walk right by the register when you enter, there was no «hello» — «can I help you» — squat. Nevertheless, as a visitor needing something quick, it got the job done.

They closed the store to deliver my girlfriend a bottle of vodka. THAT’S service, and, they have pretty dang good prices considering its location. I dig the place. The people are always nice. Oh and they’re open ’til midnight.

I’m staying at a hotel just down the street from this store and was looking for a decent bottle of wine to enjoy with my takeout from Falafel(which will be the subject of a separate review). I found it by searching my map app for«liquor store near me» and took a chance and walked down the block. I did like that there were reviews for the store on Unilocal so felt confident The fellow behind the counter was friendly and the selection of wine was really good for the small little space the store occupies. I had a wide range of wines that are familiar to me to choose from at competitive prices. I opted for something new to me with a screw cap since I was without my trusty wine opener — and ended up with a lovely bottle of red for under $ 15. I did not look at anything else in particular but did see some of the usual suspects in terms of hard liquor.

I love this place! The owners are so nice and if they know that you like a particular wine, they will make sure to have it in stock and give you a great price for it. In general, the prices are much more reasonable than the other wine and liquor stores around Dupont. If you want a specific wine that they don’t have in stock, they will order it for you. Great place!

Walked past this place plenty of times on my way to/from work and the metro. I always thought to myself, «that liquor store must be expensive.» Well I was wrong. After work I needed some whiskey on the quick, so I went to State. The store is small but has everything that you need for a very friendly price. I picked up a 10 year old single malt scotch(which was on sale) and left this store thinking«man I have to go back there again.»

I gave up drinking for Lent and since I’m wicked Catholic I stopped into State Liquors for my grocery shopping. Sorry baby J! The store is small but the selection is surprisingly adequate. High reaching shelves and central stacks of liquid candy provide a decent amount of options. The space is clean and the gentleman behind the counter is always polite. I also like that he has recession booze available. $ 8.991.5 liter bottles of wine in front of the counter, $ 6.99 Andre champagne above the soda fridge on the left. So I’ve heard…

I’m not sure why I like it here so much. The beer prices are decent, but nothing unbeatable($ 7.99 for a 6 pack of Redhook), and they rip you off on cashew nuts, too($ 3.99 for 7 ounces!)…but anyway, the point is that the proprietor has a good attitude… ask him what he has on special and he will scoff at you and say«All our stock is special!!», while meanwhile his hired hand laughs nervously at him and smiles apologetically at you. It’s nice to find a place in the heart of Dupont that stores plenty of Natural Light. This is a narrow, cramped, cheerful space reminiscent of Dixie Liquors in Georgetown.
