Personalization of leather good and diverse options for the corporate buyer as well as the fancy looking walker. I had a very specific need and ended up walking out with much more than I desired originally. The umbrellas, luggage, and even watch travel cases are all amazing with a huge selection of options to get custom leather items made for you in your own way.

This cute little store in Georgetown is a definite must. I stopped in because I was interested in getting a briefcase made for my boyfriend who is graduating law school this spring, and I was so amazed with everything they can do. You can actually customize every little detail, and the people working there are so helpful. We had such a good time picking everything out, and it turned out so gorgeous. After that, I looked around the store and totally fell in love. They have all of these amazing perfumes and handsome ties. It is such a unique gem, everyone should stop in!

Great Products but terrible service and questionable business practices.
To it’s merit, Sterling and Burke sells products that are otherwise inaccessible in the D.C. market. It’s fantastic to see so many quality British products in the U.S., in one place. I personally own a case I purchased from them in store and it’s been a great piece.
However the staff often seems completely aloof and can’t tell you much about the products they sell — you would expect more especially considering the prices. At the same time I’ve looked at a product they offer in store and online and seen two completely different prices.
It may be worthy to note that on a recent trip to London I stopped into the Regent street store of Swaine, Adeney, and Brigg and mentioned that there is a store back home that sells their product. They not only knew Sterling and Burke without me mentioning the stores name, but kindly informed me that they are in a legal battle with Sterling and Burke and advised me not to purchase any Swaine products from them.
While the products are great, I would recommend purchasing directly from the manufacturer if you have the option.

I have popped in to this lovely little slice of heaven a couple of times, but the last one had to be about 5+ yrs ago. I was in DC visiting friends and working off a bit of the gentlemen’s flu by walking around the fancy shops of Georgetown and stumbled in once more.
Where else can you can outfit yourself with sweet items like a new boot flask — for me, while also picking up a cool orange cuff for your wife? This place! For all of the items that they purvey, you really should visit the store in person as it is much easier to decide by touch and feel than trying to accomplish the same via Al Gore’s Internet, but gotta do what you gotta do. Visiting them in person may also allow you to find a custom order to your fancy.

Susan and company are very gregarious, exceptional people. I just bought an attaché from them and had a great time doing so. I had thought about the purchase for months and the sale was no pressure at all. I also bought a lovely cologne sampler that my female friends love! Go check it out — it’s a really cool store.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE ORDERING ONLINE
First visited the store a couple of months back. Casey was incredibly nice and, because I couldn’t make a decision on a $ 600 bag on the spot, suggested I order online and have it shipped to NYC later.
I decided to make the purchase and placed my order on a Friday. True to the company’s FAQ:
, I received an email saying the item was in stock, would be dispatched early in the week, and I would receive a Fedex tracking number.
I assumed this meant either Monday or Tuesday after the weekend. Fast forward to Thursday, however, and still no email I decided to call them. The lady who had sent me an email picked up and after figuring out who I was curtly replied «I just sent you an email.»
Ok. I expected an email to arrive shortly. Almost an hour later the email arrives. It has a tracking number, but guess what, «Not found» on the Fedex website!
I email the lady back and do not receive a reply. Today is Friday and I decide to call Fedex to figure out where in the world my shipment is. Fedex is surprised because they haven’t even picked up the package yet. Only a shipping label has been printed.
I’m pretty angry by this point. I write S&B another email and do not receive a reply (no surprise) again. It would help if they had an answering machine, but the tracking number finally gets activated and the bag was actually shipped after 5pm today, Friday. This means that they DID NOTHING until I emailed/​called/​tried to figure out what was going on.
Moral of this story: I’m completely disappointed by their execution after receiving my order and payment. I received little to no communication and it felt like they waited to ship my item AFTER I HAD TO ASK FOR IT.
CHECK YOUR INBOX. REPLY TO CUSTOMER EMAILS. DON’T WAIT FOR THE CONCERNED CALL TO ACTUALLY PRINT THE LABEL. DON’T WAIT FOR THE SECOND TO ACTUALLY SEND THE ITEM!
This is HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. It makes no sense why this had to happen. I would not do business here again.

Sterling and Burke is only good for what they have in store. I placed an order for a Swaine Adeney Brigg bag, and was informed that it’d take 3 months. When the 3 months was up, they told me another 3 months. This went on, and I waited for 9 solid months. I then asked them if the order would be fulfilled, to which they replied they could not be sure. Most frustrating. If you want products from SAB, buy it from London, or call the London branch. So much easier and less frustrating.

For the first time I am editing a previous review and lowering my rating considerably. Sterling and Burke in Georgetown can best be summarized by saying it is a nice boutique store offering high end leather and English products, coupled with THE WORST customer service. Patrons beware. Only purchase items that are actually in stock and physically present. DO NOT EVER special order an item through them or pay in advance for something they promise that is on its way. I learned the hard way and spent nearly a year waiting for an item which I had paid for. They do not return calls, answer emails, or provide honest/​straight forward answers to customers. Even long-​time patrons like myself who have spent considerably in their store. For their prices customer service should be a top priority. Sadly, it is not and the S&B staff will do whatever they can to change the subject, promise deadlines, or make endless excuses over why they fail to deliver. However, they will never offer you a refund and once they have your payment they seem to lose all interest in taking care of their customers. Never again for me and I would advise anyone else to go in with the above in mind.

My first time visiting this store, and I’ll definitely be back! Aside from the great quality leather products this store boasts, Susan and staff are amazing! From providing directions, to complimentary gift wrapping, and accomodation, I can’t say enough great things. I went in to get my mom a purse for mother’s day, and although it was pouring down raining, I left feeling all sunny and warm!

If you’re in the market for a briefcase, flask, cufflinks, cologne, or a really nice umbrella, this should be your first stop. Susan is great to work with and really loves feeding my dog gluten free pretzels and cheese. :)
