Meet the Business Owner

Jen M.

Business Owner

For the past 15 years, Jen has taught and tutored students who range in age from 3 to 60. She has over 10 years of experience in standardized test prep, including SAT, PSAT, LSAT, GRE, GMAT, SSAT, ISEE and TOEFL exams.

There is nothing «standardized» about Jen’s approach to standardized tests; she assesses each individual’s strengths and creates a customized course of study based on individual learning style. Her objective is to transform each student’s strengths into higher scores. Students working with Jen learn specific strategies and tricks and find that they are able to easily master unintuitive concepts. As a result of her focused approach, Jen’s students usually need only 10 to 20 hours of tutoring and regularly see improvements of 100 – 200 points on the GRE, SAT and GMAT, and 7 – 20 points on the LSAT.

Bottom Line: Through Jen’s tutoring, my GMAT score increased by 100 points.
I began getting serious about attending business school in December 2008. Throughout high school and college, I received excellent grades in all of my quantitative courses and although this never translated with standardized tests, I decided to study on my own for the GMAT. After two months, I received an acceptable score but was unfamiliar with strategies related to time management and problem solving and I knew I could do better.
I researched GMAT prep courses offered by Kaplan, Veritas, etc. but I already knew my problem areas and knew that I did not want to sit in a classroom and waste money and time listening to explanations of areas I was already familiar with. So, I decided to find a tutor through Craigslist. I interviewed half a dozen tutors, including those who live outside of the DC area and use online tools for instruction. While they were all impressive, I knew that I needed to meet with someone in person. After emailing with Jen, I knew that she had the knowledge and flexibility to provide me with the service that I was looking for.
I told Jen the areas that I struggled with when taking the GMAT and every time we met, she had worksheets and practice problems ready to attack those areas. Jen has gone through the official GMAT guide and outlined each question by type so that you will know exactly which problems to complete. This proved extremely helpful throughout the additional month and a half that I spent studying and especially right before I took the GMAT the second time and wanted to brush up on certain areas. The most important quality that Jen possesses is that she is very dedicated. There were a couple of times where I did not feel like studying and tried to cancel/delay meeting but Jen would keep me focused on my goal. She was also very flexible with meeting times and locations which did not allow me to have any excuses so I could do my best.

I prepped for the LSAT with Jen, and she was phenomenal. I live in Baltimore and she was worth driving to DC weekly to meet with her. She was more than accomodating, extremely patient and has a way with helping you «get» the logic behind the LSAT. If you are willing to put in the work, prepping with Jen works!
