Taste of Georgetown

The location under the highway underpass worked out well considering it was raining and chilly the day they held Taste of Georgetown. Without the overpass to cover us, it wouldn’t have been as enjoyable to try to walk around in the rain and eat all the delicious food options! One downside is that some places ran out of food a little more than an hour into the festival. We were looking forward to trying one of the ice cream sandwiches from Baked and Wired, but we figured we’d wait to get dessert after we got another few tastes of main courses, but sadly, when we came back to Baked and Wired they were all out. Also, a few listed participants weren’t there when we tried to look for their tent and the event info table thinks they decided to no longer participate after seeing the weather report.
Tickets for the Taste were priced at $ 5 per tasting ticket. I purchased tickets online ahead of time, so we got 4 tickets for $ 20 and 1 free ticket. When we got to the event, we were quickly able to exchange our voucher we had printed out from pre-​purchasing online to actual tickets.
Besides the food tents, they also had local stores. We popped by the Athleta tent and were able to get a coupon for a free gift if we shopped same-​day in the store. Given that we were going to shop at Athleta anyway later that day, the coupon was perfect and we were able to get a cute, small glass water bottle in a silicone sleeve.
Some of my favorite tents were the lobster roll from Luke’s Lobster, macarons from Olivia Macaron (which conveniently were packaged in a box so I could take them to eat later), cupcakes from Sprinkles (I opted for the 3 mini cupcakes to try multiple flavors), and a crêpe.
Overall, a very enjoyable event and a lot of great participating restaurants to try. For the future I will be sure to arrive exactly when it starts and who says you can’t have dessert first?!

Taste of Georgetown is one of DC’s better food festivals. I have gone the past two years; no cost to get in. The food is really good, drink prices are reasonable, local music, under the bridge near the Potomac River. I will go to this festival way before I ever go to Taste of DC again!

What an amazing event! Food was incredible and the ticket system was seamless. Don’t be fooled by long lines — they move quickly!
Bf and I enjoyed every dish we had and were able to happily share each item. We were completely stuffed by the end. We saved one ticket to use at the Georgetown Cupcake store itself and what a perfect way to end an awesome afternoon.
Also thought it was pretty neat they had a chef doing a live cooking segment which we were able to sample when he finished!

Had a lot of fun at this event. Unfortunately it was pouring, but the new location was under a bridge which made it MUCH easier to enjoy your food choices. The only issue was some of the food was not as much bang for your buck as others. $ 5 vouchers could get you anywhere from a mini lobster roll to two suckling pig tacos to a whole rice bowl!
For next year, I would recommend stopping by the judges table and asking them what was good to make sure you use your vouchers wisely!

Tickets were pricier than most «Tastes» I’ve been to, but that’s expected in Georgetown. All of the food I had was excellent and we scored a free beer tasting for participating in a quick survey. It was raining that day so it wasn’t too crowded (although the venue was covered) but I’d have to imagine that in nice weather it would have been uncomfortably crowded. The vendors were very close together and there weren’t many spots to step out of the mob and eat.
The only real disappointment was that so many restaurants closed up shop early. It was only a 5 hour event (12 – 5) and many of the places we planned on checking out were gone by 3:30. I think this reflects very poorly not only on the restaurants involved, but on the festival itself. We paid quite a bit for tickets that we weren’t even able to use. Georgetown Cupcake was among those who left early– I would think they would have a little more foresight.

Taste of Georgetown was INCREDIBLE this past Saturday. It was a rainy day, but convenient location under the Whitehurst Freeway in Georgetown kept foodies and festival-​goes dry and happy. No raining on our parade.
Tickets for the Taste were reasonably priced at $ 5 per tasting ticket. We purchased ours ahead of time, so we got 5 for the price of 4. We purchased more once we got there, but yeah… great value.
The STAR of Taste of Georgetown in my opinion was Luke’s Lobster, giving ¹⁄₃ a lobster or shrimp roll per tasting ticket. Used two tickets to get two chunks of lobster roll because it was so amazing. Generous portion of lobster on the rolls which was a pleasant surprise for a food festival setting.
Other favorites included Oliva Macaron with macarons (duh), Degrees (Ritz Carlton) with Korean tacos, Daily Grill’s gazpacho with blackened shrimp, Tackle Box’s shrimp rolls (huge portion), Ri Ra’s bread pudding, Georgetown Cupcake gave two cupcakes per one taste ticket, Bodega’s paella, and Baked & Wired’s ice cream sandwiches.
We also enjoyed $ 3 tastings of beer & wine in the alcohol tent, although the samples were a lot smaller than we expected so we’d probably forgo purchasing those tickets next time.
Great live music all day with fun events like a cupcake eating contest and chef cook-​off. It was extremely crowded though, and I can only imagine how much more packed it would have been had the weather cooperated. It’d be a good idea to consider a larger, more spread out space for the event. Otherwise, the day was absolute perfection. Great way to sample some of DC’s best food and figure out the next restaurant you want to try.

My first experience of Georgetown (the actual district) and we happened to stumble upon this large food festival. Talk about luck. It was a beautiful day outside, the streets were packed with vendors and people as well. The set up was pretty simple, vendors lined the streets, you wait in line for the food you’d like to try (or your favorite). You were able to purchase books of tickets for 20 dollars or more. Overall a fun affair, I would like to plan to attend again, although it can get pretty expensive so make sure you bring cash.

Georgetown hoooo! I had an awesome time at Taste of Georgetown this past Saturday, thanks in part to getting to participate in the flippin’ sweet chef showdown challenge. My rockin’ teammates, paired with our chef mentor, whipped up a fabulous surf-​and-​turf dish using the secret ingredient of… RHUBARB! We came in second, but it still feels like we won (or maybe that’s just the heat exhaustion talking, hahaha.)
Yes, it was hot, but I have to say, as a frequenter of more than my fair share of food festivals in the DMV, Taste of Georgetown really knows what it’s doing. The location was perfect, with lots of parking garages on K street right by the entrance to the festival, and there was a great mix of booths. Taste tickets seem a little bit higher priced here than at some other’s I’ve been to, but as long as you choose wisely, you’re definitely getting your money’s worth.
I also have to give a big nod to the Georgetown BID organizers for having a straightup ARMY of trashcans available, not to mention cocktail tables for people to huddle around, as well as lots of cleanup crew on standby. I don’t think I’ve ever attended a CLEANER «Taste of…» event in my life. Kudos! Great idea for the misting tent and banquet tables up on the lawn of the church as well. Overall, I was just really impressed with the overall execution of this event. I’ll definitely be back next year!

I won tasting tickets to Taste of Georgetown at Cake Love Crush. I knew it would be a tight day. I had a table at the church yard sale from 7am-​3pm. When sales slowed down dramatically during the 90° heatwave, I started packing up at ~2:15. I zoomed down Rock Creek Parkway (became the Duchess, thank you) and pulled into the first parking lot I saw. Not a moment to spare, it was 2:55pm. I had ten tickets to use. Here’s what I got: 1. Half Shrimp roll (Lukes Lobster). 2. Sprinkles Strawberry and bonus bee stingpastry stick. 3. Shrimp cocktail. 4. Baba ganoush platter (Neyla). 5. Short rib angolotti. 6. Shrimp w/​green beans and corn muffin. 7. Georgetown cup cake duo. 8. Crab deviled egg. 9. Baked + wired cupcake. 10. Memory fails me here.
It was all fabulously delicious! The band was great as well! I would go again!
