The Ritz-Carlton, Washington D.C.

Staying at the Ritz Carlton was one of the best decisions we ever made.
It was my wife and son’s (age 5) first time in DC during Memorial Day weekend and after a long day of travelling we would have been satisfied with a comfy bed and a quiet night in — but the DC Ritz Carlton totally blew us away. From the complimentary champagne at check-​in to the candy station and cookie jar at the front desk, to the wonderful welcome package that was waiting for us in our room, it was a memorable experience. My son participated in their Ritz Kids program where he got to «check-​in» and then go on a scavenger hunt around the hotel, talking with staff and finding out a couple of cool tucked away places — like the library where you can see autographs of several presidents. Afterwards the staff rewarded him with a prize and lovely small toy.
We grabbed a scrumptious dinner at the WestEnd Bistro in the hotel and then walked to a nearby playground (thanks to the concierge) where our son could blow off some steam. The room was extremely comfortable and relaxing and the bathroom was huge. We had very restful nights while we explored DC.
The service and amenities were outstanding — we’ll be back again.

My mom and I are here for an awards banquet and I have to say the hospitality has been absolutely spectacular! From check-​in late at night after a long journey from BWI, to compliments on our evening gowns, to our guy, Ralph, with room service, it is apparent this hotel and its employees takes their business quite seriously. In my opinion, the customer service is the most important part to a wonderful hotel — and then the accommodations. Between the fabulous beds, plush robes and slippers, and clean, well-​appointed bathrooms, The Ritz Washington, DC has it down! I’m looking forward to the gym tomorrow morning ;)

Holy moly, this hotel is amazing! I don’t even know where to begin.
The front lobby, bar and lounge have all been renovated and it’s everything you expect The Ritz-​Carlton to be. It’s absolutely gorgeous. The staff was incredibly gracious and accommodating from the minute I pulled up. I was able to check in early, which was perfect. It allowed me to have some down time before meetings. The room was so comfortable. I could just melt in that bed with all of those pillows. The bathroom was really big and spacious. I wish I had more time to indulge in the spa tub!
My stay was very short, but my experience was wonderful and very memorable. I loved all of the small, personal touches from the staff that made my stay even better. I look forward to staying at The Ritz-​Carlton, Washington D.C. again in the future.

5 Stars, of course, it is the Ritz! We stayed here for 5 nights for our spring break.
The hotel is close to the DuPont Metro Station, Georgetown and the White House and Embassy Row. Bring you walking shoes. It is still a hike to the mall, but it is a nice walk. Otherwise catch the metro, a few blocks away.
The Ritz is one of the few luxury hotels that really caters to kids. My son turned 13 on this trip and the staff went above and beyond to make his day special! When we came back after a long day of sight seeing, the room was decorated and they even provided a personalized cake for him.
We chose to stay in the club level. This works out very well. You have access to the club lounge 24 hours a day. Breakfast and lunch is available. At night, you get nice appetizers and dessert. Of course wine, champagne, and other beverages are all included. This makes it a great value in my opinion.
The rooms are exactly what you would expect from a Ritz. Nice linens, towels, décor, curtains to block out all the light! And quiet!
Be sure to get the afternoon cookie in the lobby. They rotate it every day and it is a recipe favored by one of our presidents or First Ladies!

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It was very busy at check in but the staff were abundant and efficient. Our room was not ready which was disappointing, but Kerem took Amazing care of us, brought our bags to the fitness center so we could change and prepare to go out for the day, and then arranged to have our belongings brought to the room when it became available, while we were out.
He was warm and friendly and made our experience here perfect.
The lobby is lovely, breakfast delicious, room clean, good water pressure in the shower, comfortable bed.
Highly recommend!

Francisco took great care of me during my visit to DC. He was attentive and even followed up about a request I had made. Housekeeping staff takes great care of the rooms and cleans your room twice a day. I usually decline the night service because my room doesn’t get that crazy and I also don’t believe in overworking the staff.
The White house is nearby along with several nice restaurants and bars. You can use the Equinox gym for free during your stay.
So many things to do here. Wish I could stay for longer! Would give this place 6 stars if I could!

Always good to be back here. My third stay at this hotel. The décor is slightly updated but remains traditional. Love the warm apple cider and delicious chocolate chip cookies. Wonderful live music on a rainy Wednesday night. Efficient and friendly staff.

I love the Ritz (though are there people who don’t? I guess this Unilocal page answers that question). This one has a great location in DC — near a number of businesses, metro lines, and also walking distance from Georgetown and GW and the National Mall if you want to go sightseeing. The room is somehow cozy and comfortable and extravagant all at once. The hotel bar is great as well and I know many locals who go there just for drinks.
The business lounge is one of my favorite hotel lounges. I had lunch and dinner there and it was a lovely spot to work during the day. The food was much nicer than the typical fare — the equivalent of fancy cocktail party finger foods. There was a tartare in a little cup that was absolutely delicious. I didn’t even need to go out for dinner! The staff were also incredibly friendly and nice and made delicious coffee and mocha.
Most importantly, they have delicious double chocolate cookies in the lobby during the afternoon. They were apparently President Ford’s favorite; a sign says he enjoyed this delicious cookie with butter pecan ice cream.

Surprisingly kid-​friendly, unsurprisingly impeccable service and amenities!
The Ritz Carlton lives up to the high expectations of the best hotel brand in the world. They have taken care of us and our daughter in ever way. From welcoming her with a wagon full of toys (she could pick one) to stocking our room with a beautiful crib, quilt, and even rubber ducky and baby shampoo, the staff at the Ritz made my family feel like we were valued guests, not pariahs for bringing a one year old.
They offer the best service of any of the major hotel brands, by far!

A patron at the bar vomited all over themselves and the bar, as well as my bag. I pushed back the crab sliders and old fashioned I’d ordered and walked out, receiving no apology. Easily the most disgusting bar experience I’ve ever had. Very disappointed, and would never return to this or any Ritz.

This hotel is very clean. The staff is friendly and it’s not hard to find someone to help you with anything. That said, they stop just short of putting their hand out. The rooms are very pricey, starting at $ 300. Here’s what I can’t figure out… You have to pay for wifi in your room, to the tune of $ 9 per day. There is no free Continental breakfast either. It’s $ 16. Or, you can have the breakfast buffet for $ 22. Parking is pay only, in the hotel’s garage. And, instead of having a pool for everyone, they have an independent company that runs a spa/​fitness center/​pool on the 2^nd floor that is pay-​to-​play. Either join the gym or pay per visit. Now, to be fair, this seems to be the norm in DC. I just don’t get it. Every crappy hotel in the country has free pool, free wifi and free breakfast. I was so excited to be staying at this hotel. Not so much now.

This is a review of their bar lounge– I originally wanted to come here to get their honey comb infused tequila, but unfortunately they ran out. Very disappointed because I was waiting all week to try it. BUT, it was okay because I loved everything else.
This place was the cutest and classiest lounge to get a bite and few drinks before heading out to DC for the night. They had really good service here and everything on their menu was on point.
The lounge area was cozy with dim lighting and the seats were scattered all around the lounge. I loved how they added a fire place. It was a cute touch.
I ordered some drinks, but the best part was their food! We got waffle fries and lamb sliders.
The waffle fries were smothered in cheese and sprinkled with bacon and scallions. It was sooo good! Perfect thing to munch on while you drink.
Their lamb sliders were delicious too! It came on a soft pretzel bread.
Food was good and drinks are not bad either.

I have been to a lot of high-​end hotels and this is probably in my top three. The staff is the friendliest, and the room service is quick. The bar is on the first floor near the lobby but just far enough away that you don’t have to constantly hear and see people come in and out. The location is close enough that you can walk to the White House or take the metro wherever you want.
The breakfast, from the restaurant and room service, was very good; and this hotel had the best shrimp cocktail that I have ever had.
All of the staff was fantastic, whether it was the concierge, bar staff, room service, check-​in people or the staff walking around to make sure everything is to perfection.
One tip– ask the concierge where to do things! Whether is be activities, shopping or food. They are very knowledgeable and know the fun things to do.

Wonderful hotel! Very accommodating at the last minute as we were supposed to drive straight home from the Hamptons and needed to stop for the night. They had in the room after drinks, a sweet birthday card, chocolate cake and a bottle of champagne, class act.

The renovation is beautiful, the lobby has an urban feel with many seating areas. The restaurant is great yet the spa is lacking. The hotels staff is extremely professional and gracious. The concierge is one of the best I’ve travel to !

A lovely hotel who must have hired a designer who led them down the decorating no-​no path… they painted over their beautiful cherry paneling once classically featured throughout the hotel’s lobby and bar area. I am guessing the satin gray which was used on top of all the beautiful wood is supposed to look more modern? we were sad to see the change from a more historic Washington look. We just returned tonight from five nights and here is our take-​away:
Desk staff, concierge, servers, maid service: All incredibly attentive and polite. Always tip these folks, as theirs’ is a difficult job. I usually tip at the start… what’s the point at the end, right?
Main (and only) dining room for guests and public alike is located at the corner of the building, on their first floor (The West End). Situated along the main boulevard beside the hotel entrance, it is a bit awkwardly designed in an upside down «T» configuration. I think space is at such a premium they had no other choice. Seating is a bit tight for patrons b/​c of this lay-​out. Be prepared to possibly be seated looking at the chefs at work behind their counter, and for a lot of noise (for us, it was Saturday morning and again on Saturday night). Several patrons got up to change tables, but we didn’tt mind the noise. I watched one poor fellow on a college date that probably cost him a bit… they sat the poor young man and his lovely, well dressed female friend next to the kitchen wall I mentioned, where the waiters brushed behind him with each delivery. I wanted to tell him to ask for another table, but he was young and most likely a dining neophyte.
Their restaurant, called The West End, has a really lovely, varied menu. Breakfast was delicious (I had scrambled eggs with fresh salsa/​shredded cheese/​avocado and grilled tomato and my husband a ham and spinach omelette. The dinner service was excellent, but I sent my chicken back for more cooking, as it was too moist for my liking. They graciously took care of for me, and the velvety sauce was out of this world delicious. Husband had excellent grilled salmon with duxelles. They are accommodating if you have a special dietary need or want your food a certain way.
Tip for kitchen: Rustic bread should be served with cruet of olive oil and fine balsamic vinegar, but came plain in a basket.
Concierges were all very, very helpful with info and maps.
Safe neighborhood for walking about, with two major drug stores for all the stuff you forgot to bring in the same corner.
Only real annoyance, as someone else mentioned: The Sports Club next door does NOT belong to the hotel and guests must pay to use it. There is no spa, no hair salon, no masseuse. I know it is a business hotel, for the most part, but business people enjoy massages and having their hair done when they’ve just flown 3,000 miles to get to the hotel. Room Service menu is the shortest I have ever seen, as a frequent 5-​star hotel traveler. Very, very limited, and when you are busy and need to order breakfast/​lunch up to the room over the course of several days, you grow weary without a menu change. Still, I’d go there again. Just work on the menu, RC!

The Ritz Hotel in Washington DC is very nice. The nightly rate is $ 699. On weekends the price is through the roof. I was here to attend A dinner gala and one of their ballrooms.
The event itself was very nice the staff was very friendly and courteous as you would expect that any Ritz Carlton Hotel. They had violinist playing and all of the décor exudes elegance. The food at the gala was very good.
The hotel itself is very nice the Ritz is a very expensive hotel at $ 699 per night this is not a hotel that you would stay at if you’re on a budget. Which can be a good thing because there’s not a lot of tourist that stay here. The concierge service was helpful. Only issue I really had with the hotel was the valet where you drop your car off there wasn’t a lot of sidewalk space so when people would get out of their car with their luggage they would just stand on the sidewalks and you could not walk past them to get into the hotel.
Overall it’s a very nice hotel I have no complaints it is very pricey at 699 a night. I don’t even want to know what the weekend rate here would be. I do recommend this hotel to anybody that is accustomed to staying at Ritz

We stayed at this Ritz-​Carlton, rooms were spacious and beds were very comfortable. Staff were super attentive to our needs and requets. Easy to get spoiled here.

The good: The bed was soft, the shower was lovely (great water pressure, which is a must for me).
The bad: They were renovating the lobby so the entrance was very cramped. There was no indication where to enter the hotel (we walked there). I was there for a conference along with 2 co-​workers. I was the only member in my group who brought my significant other, yet I got the smallest room out of the three of us. I was given an access code for the wifi, which did not work. I would have to pay $ 10 a day to use the internet in my room-​no thanks.
I was also here for a conference, as mentioned previously. The temperature in the rooms in the basement was frigid and people were uncomfortably cold, especially the first day. They set up the tables awkwardly so that when people came in late, they had to stand in the back, because the empty seats were not accessible. They ran out of water in the room a couple of times. The lunch buffet was lackluster, and did not taste good. The continental breakfast was carb city. They frequently cleared food before the breaks were over. I opted to go out and buy my own breakfast and lunch following day 1.
I do realize that I was not staying at the club level, or in a suite, but I thought that with a brand name like the Ritz, I would have been more impressed. I never would have paid to stay here on my own dime to begin with, but now I also tell my friends not to do so either. There are much better hotels in the area that are more affordable and have better amenities, in my opinion.

5 Stars all the way! I can’t say enough about how great they made our experience, especially after having had a horrible experience at another hotel across town! We had originally planned to stay at this property, but had decided to stay at the JW Marriott instead (We have 4 younger boys, who wanted to explore the sites of DC as it was closer to the tourist spots). We should have just gone with the original plan to stay here, needless to say, we check out of the JW Marriott within 2 hours as they did not have roll away beds and couldn’t accommodate our family!
Ritz Carlton to the rescue! We called and booked a suite and were on our way over! Upon check in, I was greeted with a glass of champagne and my husband with a jack on the rocks! It was the week of 4^th of July and our boys each received a teddy bear and some 4^th of July goodies. Our room was beyond expectations! We had reserved a 1 bedroom suite and they put us in the Ritz Carlton Suite, needless to say we had plenty of room!
We ordered room service a couple of times and they have a great selection of wines and mouth watering desserts. They had a really good mango dessert too. Our suite had a 8 person dining room, living room complete with a fire place, apple desktop computer workstation, dressing room, walk in closet and more space and amenities than imaginable!
I can’t say that I’m surprised because the Ritz Carlton always has exceptional service and it’s always nice when they surpass your expectations and go above and beyond! Thanks for making this the best stop on our vacation!

We stayed here during the hotel’s renovation. Ergo, there were some inconveniences that were made up for by way of the prices for our room and the attitide of the staff. This is a large property with over 300 rooms. The rooms are fairly nice, and food was good. The one big attribute in addition to the location is that Sports Club (now Equinox) is next door — literally. This property is also close to Georgetown. Rooms are modern and spacious. It is a standard Ritz Carlton experience.

What a wonderful way to spend a relaxing and fun weekend with my girlfriends, that I haven’t seen in awhile. The hotel’s lobby décor is adorned with dark woods, soft lighting, classic lush ornate carpeting and early century style furnishings.
The hotel reception staff were all very friendly and accommodating without appearing pretentious. Check in and check out were a breeze.
Our accommodations on the club level was a moderate size room with 2 queen beds, a 30′+ television on top of a console which also housed clothing drawers and a cabinet for the refrigerator, a view overlooking a condo building with a butting courtyard and a reasonably sized bathroom with a roomy shower as well as a large tub.
The club lounge was sizable, airy and styled with contemporary furniture. There were single tables, doubles, round tables that allowed for 4+ people. There were two culinary stations for light food items providing various selections rotating from breakfast/​brunch, lunch or dinner that included salads, soups, cold cuts, pasta salads, crudite, desserts, quiche, lox, waffles, etc. A side wall with cookie jars filled with several cookie options and candy, Mary Janes, M&Ms and red hots to name a few. There was also a wine station that had a showcase of about 6 bottles of wine behind a glass compartment and you could push one of three buttons to dispense your desired amount of wine. Champagne, beer, specialty water, soft drinks, coffee and tea options were also available. Needless to say, we never left the floor until the day of departure as we had everything at our fingertips and toes. And since the trip was to do nothing but R&R, the Ritz experience met our needs. The club lounge staff were extraordinary. Their attentiveness, professionalism, pleasant demeanor and engaging.
Having enjoyed such a lovely experience at the Ritz in DC, I already made similar reservations at another Ritz Carlton for an upcoming excursion, in Atlanta. The people, not just the expensive accommodations, made the experience what it was, I can see why this brand has such a luxurious reputation.

I can not recommend the Ritz-​Carlton in Washington, D.C. enough. The staff at this hotel is just incredible, kind and caring. I specifically dealt with Lauren and Jessica, who are front desk agents, and they were so helpful. In a time when I was dealing with a tragedy, they made it so I didn’t have to worry or think about accommodations and this allowed me to focus on what I needed to focus on.
The rooms were very nice and clean. The maid service was great.
The WiFi is free for a normal connection rate, and for a faster connection speed it is $ 14.95/day. I was able to use Netflix streaming with the regular connection rate.
Again, I can’t say how great this hotel was.

Came here a couple of weeks ago for a long weekend. When we arrived on the Thursday night after a long and tiring drive, we were greeted with absolute chaos at the front entrance with lots of cars jostling for space. There was a ball going on and we’d come at just the wrong time. Worse, we had not been allocated a king bed, despite my having thought I had done so through
and the hotel was fully booked so we had to content ourselves with squashing into one of two twin beds in the room (we still like sleeping together). They promised us a king room for the rest of our stay and were as good as their word.
The free champagne made the bitter pill a little easier to follow, and a couple of very expensive drinks in the bar later, the world had been restored to order. Even better, I had contacted the concierge, Daniel, prior to our visit for hotel recommendations. He had booked us into Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak and Stone Crab (also reviewed) on the Friday evening, but hadn’t managed to get us a table at Rasika, the renowned Indian restaurant literally a stone’s throw from the hotel. A member of the bar staff, Ajeeb, was able to secure us a reservation immediately and off we went!
I have never particularly enjoyed breakfasts in hotels, but the Ritz Carlton is a notable exception. Not only is the restaurant itself quite cosy, small and brightly lit, the staff were amazingly helpful and knowledgeable. We had booked the package which included $ 75 breakfast for two people and valet parking. That covered us for the a la carte breakfast but not the buffet on the Saturday and Sunday once you factored in service. But the food was of a very good standard, and we really didn’t mind. There was more coffee in the library if we wanted it. Biscuits upon on return from a busy day sightseeing at 5.30pm were most welcome.
The room and the bathroom were standard 5 star fare, and I have no complaints. I loved this hotel; it is really very good, and I am notoriously difficult to please. I will stay here on future visits to DC.

As a frequenter (weekly stays for work), this is a great place to stay in DC. It’s central to Georgetown, DuPont Circle, and Foggy Bottom. The staff is phenomenal, and the amenities are great (connected to an Equinox gym, coffee in the lobby in the mornings, cookies in the evening, turndown service).
The drawback is the hotel room, as the rooms seem a bit old. The bathroom is great, very glamorous, and comfortable compared to a typical bathroom.

Am Memorial Day hatten wir in Washington D.C. zu einem Drittel des Normalpreises ein Doppelzimmer im «Ritz» gebucht. Beim Einchecken wurden wir von friendly Frank mal eben auf eine Corner Suite mit Pentagon View upgegradet. «Take the Royal family save to their room.» gab er dem Porter mit auf den Weg, der unsere Koffer nach oben beförderte. Die Einführungsrunde nahm schier kein Ende: hier noch eine Tür geöffnet, dort noch einen Lichtschalter angeknipst: ein kleines Paradies.
Neben dem überdimensional großen Salon mit Couchgarnitur und Mahagoni-​Schreibtisch und dem «Schlafzimmer» mit Kingsize Bett verfügte die Suite nicht nur über ein Marmorbad, sondern dazu noch über ein Gäste WC und (ganz schnuckelig) einem Schminkkabinett für die Dame mit vergoldetem Spiegel und Samthöckerchen. Lieblich! In der geräumigen Diele stand eine original italienische Espressomaschine und wir brauten uns den ersten vollaromatischen Kaffee in Amerika. In den begehbaren Schränken ging das Licht an, sobald man seine Kleider greifen wollte.
Und herrlich, vom Kingsize Bed die einschwebenden Flugzeuge über dem Pentagon zu beobachten.
Als wir wieder an die Rezeption kommen, fragt Frank: «How did you like your room?» Worauf wir nur kontern konten: «Which one?» denn von «room» konnte hier keine Rede sein.
Zu all der Pracht wurde uns ein «late check out» gewährt, d. h. wir durften bis 17:00 im Hotel bleiben. Da kann man noch ganz gepflegt einen City Bummel machen und hernach frisch duschen, bevor man die Koffer für den abendlichen Heimflug schließt.
Diese günstigen Randbedingungen schreiben wir übrigens der Tatsache zu, dass die Stadt am Tag vor dem Memorial Day ausgebucht und teuer war, während alle am Memorial Day selbst morgens auschecken, an den Feierlichkeiten teilnehmen und in die heimischen Gefilde eilen.

My roommate and I stayed here this weekend and had an amazing experience. She actually won a free weekend’s stay through work so we decided to take a nice, well-​deserved «staycation.»
We checked-​in on Friday night and were greeted with glasses of champagne. We had the odd request of a knife (gotta have something with which to spread peanut butter on a bagel after a late night of drinks!), and the manager-​on-​duty was happy to oblige. He also walked us to the elevator and selected our floor for us. Where else do they do that? When we walked into the room, the Instant Fireplace was on the tv and classical music was playing on the radio.
The room was great. We both slept well and the black-​out shades definitely served their purpose. The room comes with lots of amenities, including collar stays, a comb, and bottles of water (in addition to the regular lotion, soap, shampoo set). And of course, the robes were very plush and, well, awesome.
After we left, I realized I left in the hotel my «Irish Drinking Socks» I bought in Dublin 5 years ago for St. Patrick’s Day. Since these are not your ordinary socks, I called right away to report it to Loss Prevention. Less than an hour later they called me back to inform me they found my socks (Luck of the Irish!) and I can pick them up anytime this week. Erin go bragh!
Despite the fact that we were there through a gift certificate and weren’t funding our own stay, and despite the fact we are young and couldn’t afford our own stay, the staff didn’t treat us any differently. It’s a great hotel with a great team and it’s a quick walk away from Georgetown, Foggy Bottom Metro, and Dupont Circle. I wish I could spend every weekend there! I just wish the room wifi were free (that’s my only negative comment).
