NEVER get your hair done by Angelo!!!
I went to Trina’s Hair Gallery on the advice of a friend. Her hair is gorgeous, and Angelo does it. I should note that the friend is biracial, and has a very different texture from mine.
Anyway, before my first appointment, I sent him a photo of the hairstyle I like. He assured me he could achieve the same style. He lied. What he did bore little to no resemblance to what I showed him. To make matters worse, the photo I showed him was of MY OWN HAIR, done just a month earlier by a different stylist who is no longer in the area. Angelo’s style looked dry, and made my hair shrink to my skull. A few people commented that they didn’t know I had gone natural (I haven’t, by the way). If I’d wanted that style, I WOULD just go natural, and have it look much better. Still, I tipped him 20% because he’s a friend of a friend, young, and trying to make it.
FOUR DAYS after my initial appointment, I went back to him to get a weave installed. I decided to go that route because the weaves I’d seen of his on Instagram looked pretty good, and I’m looking for a protective style leading up to my wedding. I bought the hair, and sat down in his chair for what he told me would be a two-​hour appointment. FOUR AND A HALF HOURS LATER, I was done, and the results were darn near tragic.
I confess I have thin/​fine hair, so I really needed all of my hair to be cornrowed and under the weave. Instead, this quote unquote professional left some of my hair out to cover the tracks. My hair DIDN’T cover the tracks. The tracks at the top of my head were waving to the public like «Hey girrrrl!» To fix the problem, he then GLUED in two MORE tracks at the top of my head. When I told him how little I liked it, he said «I stand by my work. If you don’t like it, I’ll refund your money.» That all sounded good, except… before his manager left for the day, I had to pay his booth rent!!!
When I texted him later that night to tell him how unhappy I was and that I wanted my money back, he explained that a sign in the shop says «No refunds,» which actually isn’t true, but whatever. He said he spoke with his manager, who reiterated that policy. First of all, when you’re doing booth rent, the management doesn’t care if you give a refund as long as you pay your booth rent. Clearly, Angelo has been dealing with too many young girls and not enough women.
To make a long story less long, I went back to him last night. He had a «braider» there (no, he’s not even capable of doing the braiding himself) who didn’t speak a word to me, and began tugging on my already sensitive hair. When Angelo was done with the «fix,» it looked even worse than the original. The tracks are now showing approximately ¼″ away from my hairline. Now, I’m not trying to pretend that this hair is mine. However, the same way that I don’t go around showing my underwear is the way that I don’t want to show my tracks.
When I left, I knew I would be taking it out soon. I sent him a text today, letting him know, and cluing him in to the fact that a colleague actually asked why my tracks are showing in the front. I am an attorney. I work in a professional environment. This is completely unacceptable.
Angelo responded very immaturely, considering how many chances I’d given him (THREE, with a tip EACH time, despite my unhappiness).
If you’re a young girl looking for a club ‘do, then go see him. In the darkness of the club, I’m sure no one will notice. If, however, you are an adult professional, find another salon. Pics to follow.
EDITED: I find it very amusing that a male (likely FRIEND) of Angelo felt the need to respond. I also appreciate the low-​quality photos designed to hide any flaws. This will be the last I’ll say on this because, frankly, I already found an ACTUAL PROFESSIONAL in Rockville who does quality weaves. I went back to him because he really seemed to be trying and because I’d spent a lot of money, and he was the one who should fix it. With regard to the braider, there’s no need to free up the stylist for another client if he doesn’t double-​book. Obviously, you get what you pay for, and I’m happy to say that after paying double what Angelo charged, I have a gorgeous weave that will serve as a protective style this summer. Lastly, I paid for my services with him. The only «free» service he provided was making sure that my tracks were showing at my hairline, rather than on top of my head. Even then, I tipped him because I felt sorry for him and he was referred by a friend.
