Normal bar food with a great bar and chill atmosphere. Good happy hour deals and not too pricey

Tried the Thai Chili Wings, the cheese curds, and the curly fries. The wings were the best part, very yummy and very satisfying! Could have passed on the curds and fries.

It’s nice to find a bar that is not overly packed on a Friday night. There was a decent crowd, but there was also breathing room. Pretty decent price on a pitcher of beer. The waiter recommended something to me that I will pass on to you: pulled pork nachos where the chips are substituted for tater tots, tatchos. It’s actually surprisingly fantastic and everyone should share a plate with a few friends.

Honestly not the best selection of beer, but definitely not bad. The well drinks seem to always be super cheap– not sure if it’s because I always get an amazing bartender, but I never remember paying more than $ 5 for a well drink no matter the time of day. The court yard gets crazy crowded and busy during happy hours and sporting events, so plan accordingly because it always seems to be q challenge to get a seat out there during dinner time.

I’m a high school teacher, and at 5 o’clock on a Friday this place has all the school supplies that I need. My teacher-​friend and I came here to re-​up after another successful week of not using holy water to waterboard anyone’s child.
She had a vodka and cranberry juice with a glass of wine. I had a rum and Coke. The drinks were strong enough to allow us to believe that we were still valued members of society. With our newfound confidence/​delusion, we ate some grub. She had the spinach artichoke dip, which was pretty good. It tasted better than TGI Friday’s. I had the pepperoni grilled cheese sandwich with parmesan fries. The sandwich was much better than I expected. The fries were okay. Not bad, but not mind blowing.
Sensing that we were flying too close to the sun with the whole confidence/“valued member of society” thing, God sent a thunderstorm our way. The outdoor patio somehow lost its appeal so we left. I’d definitely go back. The service was good, and the «bar food» was on par with chain restaurant, which is pretty good for a happy hour spot.

Speaking only for the bar: Union Pub is well-​run and has a decent array of beer and alcohol. The beer options are plentiful (try some of the rarer stuff — it’s worth it), and the location is rather nice. No complaints here!

This is a great place to go with friends! Drink specials go all night and the patio is great for a nice day. Great for meeting friends after work, and is a main hangout for hill staffers.

Really like Union Pub. Hanging out on the patio, gives me that «small town» feeling. Hanging out inside it’s the exact opposite.
The staff here is really nice. When it comes to the food it’s okay. Nothing special. I love tater tots. Napoleon, give me some of your tots! Was excited in trying their tots. Unfortunately, they fell flat.
Overall this is a good place when it comes to meeting up with friends and enjoying a few rounds of beverages.

My wife and I have been wanting to check this place out since it always seems to be full of people. We wanted to watch the championship game of the women’s World Cup between the U.S. and Japan. The place was packed full of proud soccer fans. It was such a nice environment to be cheering for our home team. We sat at the bar because all the tables were taken. No complaints. They had really good deals with buckets of American beer. There was a customer next to us who was upset about the soccer game being on and ended up leaving, but that’s ok. We also ordered wings which was on point. We’ll definitely be back to try other food because the atmosphere was great.

The food here was very good and the staff were very helpful and friendly.

Solid three stars for me. Capitol interns recommended it and seems popular with Hill staff and visitors like us who followed the recommendation!
Looks like a sports bar, lots of memorabilia and TV’s but has an outdoor space. This time we ate indoors as DC had hit a cold spell.
Prices around $ 12 a salad and free refills on soft drinks. Not huge amounts of gluten free options except for the salads but portions are huge.
I enjoyed lunch here but I probably wouldn’t return due to lack of options for gf me.

It’s unfortunate that we went to Union Pub on an unseasonably cold spring day, since the problems we experienced would have been more easily overlooked if it had been warm.
For a Thursday, the specials were $ 12 pitchers of Bud Light, $ 4 mystery beers, and a whiskey special that escapes me. The pitchers were generous, particularly for this part of DC!
The chicken nachos were disappointing. The chicken was decently portioned, but cheap diced tomatoes and onions does not constitute «salsa» or even pico if we’re being honest, shredded cheese was skimped, and the jalapeños were few and far between. This made for a really dry plate, so everything would fall off the chips when you picked one up. Not worth it and not fun when the wind is blowing/​your hands are cold/​you want warm cheesy spicy nachos.
My Whiskey Creek Burger came out surprisingly well, since my expectations for a medium-​rare patty were pretty low after the subpar nachos. The fries were pretty disappointing, though. It seems they were at the bottom of the bucket since most of mine were about an inch or less in size.
It was crowded, but from what I could tell we were some of the only people eating dinner outside. We would go loooong periods of time without seeing our waitress, which was especially frustrating in the cold. It took more than 15 minutes after our beer pitchers were dropped before we got cups… come on.
The patio is a nice size, and has projection screens for sports. I’d probably skip the food unless you’re just trying to munch, but I would definitely come back on a warm day where slow service wouldn’t bother us.

The chicken wrap is actually a chicken salad wrap, and so disappointing it shouldn’t be on any menu at any restaurant in this city.
Same goes for their garlic fries. Absolutely terrible.
The tenders aren’t so bad, but when they put them on bread and call it a buffalo chicken sandwich, it comes out way too dry and a bit bland.
This place has a decent location, it’s fun to watch an FSU game (even though I’m a Gator) and the prices aren’t too bad.
But eat before you come.

I’ve been to the Union Pub more than a few times, and in general, this is just your average sports bar with fried food, just with less TVs than normal.
Most recently, I went for lunch — it’s mainly work groups with a smattering of tourists. They have an okay beer selection, with some new arrivals that are seasonal.
For me, the food is just average. Everything seems to be fried. My «bacon» cheeseburger that was supposed to have bacon inside of the burger basically didn’t have any bacon in it that I could discern. The barbecue pork nachos, however, were rather tasty and came with a big portion of meat.
Service is always spotty. And there is always a guy named Big Sexy at lunch. Take from that what you will.
Union Pub is fine for a quick burger or a drink after work. That’s about it.

I was a little surprised at first at the price of their brunch seeing as it is a pub, but the portions definitely justified the price tag.
Maybe it was the result of being a bit hung over, but for some reason I had the hardest time choosing what item to get (it’s not like there is a Huge selection). Anyways, the waitress recommended the omelet so I got that, and my bf order the hang over breakfast sandwich. In the end his was much much better. I was worried the croissant would be one of those tiny ones, but that was surly not the case. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a croissant that big.
Finally, it doesn’t say it on the menu, but just about all of the breakfast/​brunch options come with potato fries.

Came to Union Pub not knowing what to expect and left with this becoming my go-​to lunch and happy hour spot in the area. Union Pub has a great outdoor patio perfect for after work drinks. Inside it has a decent size bar, lounge area, and then a backroom with tables, a bar, and tvs for watching the games.
The service was great. We came for an informal business lunch and were in and out in 45 minutes. The food was tasty — whenever buffalo chicken is on the menu, I have to get it and Union Pub provided a very good buffalo chicken sandwich. Prices were reasonable and the overall low-​key atmosphere provides a perfect spot for a low-​key business lunch or catching up with co-​workers after hours.

— Chicago Bears HQ. I love the Bears atmosphere during game days. They provide plenty of seating throughout the pub.
— The staff was really friendly & helpful. When we told the hostess it was our first time visiting she made us feel welcomed. We drove over an hour (w/​traffic) to get there so that was really nice.
— Food was really good. Got to try the spinach w/​goat cheese & veggie burger. Both amazing! They offer a pretty sweet brunch menu too.
— Most of the parking in the neighboorhoods have no limits on Sundays but make sure you check the signs.

A favorite Capitol Hill haunt, no doubt due to its proximity to the Senate Buildings not the actual bar itself.
I went to Union Pub for a happy hour after work with some co-​workers. The inside is very small (there’s a larger one in the back) — only a few small tables and the bar. They have daily specials which are reasonably priced for the area and a solid variety of (15+ on tap, all craft beers) and mixed drinks (they had one with lemonade and gin that was delicious). Overall, it’s a great bar to chill out after work, but probably isn’t worth traveling out of your way.
I have no doubt I’ll be back (just to try the food).

Nothing like sitting outside on a fine day in the evening enjoying your hops. As Bar food goes — this place is as good as any other for veggie bar food. Though they do have a good selection on tap and they try and change their offerings.
On this particular (after a long) day we enjoyed their «ways and means» IPA (btw, still searching for «filibuster» and «gridlock» beers) and it was hoppy and yummy. Though on one of my earlier visit here, we tried their Nachos (sans meat — they really don’t have veggie nachos per se) and it does look and taste like a «gridlock». Not the best, even by the bar standards.
It’s a neighborhood (big) place so don’t expect a lot of quiet during the happy hoppy hours. Stop for a late night rejuvenator and you may enjoy some quiet!

Feels like a neighborhood bar but unexpectedly large inside, three rooms to find a table, enjoy a beer with some pub grub, and watch some sports on the many TVs. Even better is the huge covered outdoor patio. Quiet enough for adult conversation, cheap enough for about anyone, casual enough to relax.
Two dozen taps! Choices were nearly all crafts and included pale ales, stouts, amber ales, wheats, IPAs, three Goose Island beers, two Sweetwaters, DC Brau, Stella and (maybe it’s mandatory) Bud lite. An imperial pint of Devils Backbone Eight Point IPA from Virginia was served in a matching glass, fair at $ 7. And five kinds of wings!
Tuesdays (trivia night) the Union Pub offers craft bourbons for $ 4 (!) and craft beer cans for $ 5; on Wednesdays the special is rye whiskey. Only cheap beer (bud lite) is cheap during happy hour, like basically every other DC bar, grr.
Parmesan garlic fries sounded amazing but were just ok, hot and generous with cheese but stingy with garlic, a bucket was only $ 4. Three fish tacos brought crispy deep-​fried tilapia with plenty of lettuce, tomato chunks and green avocado sauce on top, a real dinner steal at $ 10.
Vegetarian rating: 3 stars for the surprisingly many options including tater tots, fried cheese curds, margarita pizza, spinach and mushroom pizza, spinach salad, black-​bean burger, fried zucchini sandwich and of course the fries. They’re trying here, great choices for a plain bar.
In the end a really solid, affordable place with friendly quick service. I’m a 3.5 star fan and rounding up :)
