This Petco Unleashed has a great staff. If you shop with your leashed dog, a staff member will greet him/​her with a big welcome and treat! The store also offers puppy and adult dog obedience classes, all based on positive reinforcement. Our trainer Jennifer guided us through the puppy series. We learned the essentials (sit, down, stay, come), and loose leash, which means that your dog will walk by your side in a controlled manner – no more pulling or dragging! I learned lots of owner skills from Jen, which strengthened my bonding with my new puppy. We recently completed Petco’s Canine Good Citizen course with Jennifer, who is also a CGC Evaluator. Thanks to Jen’s training skills, we passed the exam, and had a great time!

I’ve been very happy with all of my shopping experiences at Unleashed in Georgetown. Some items can be a little pricey but they almost always have what I need and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
This review, though, is really for the obedience courses offered at this location. My puppy and I just completed the Puppy One course with trainer Jennifer and I was very happy with the experience. Jennifer is a great trainer who is always available to answer questions and sincerely cares about your dog’s progress. The course is also a very fair price, I think $ 110 for 6 one hour sessions. If your dog or puppy has some serious behavioral issues then this course probably wouldn’t be enough but if you just bought a new dog home and want to make sure he or she learns all the basics then this course is perfect. Even if you are an experienced dog owner familiar with training, I think if you have the free time and can handle the expense reviewing the concepts with a professional is well worth it. We found that the six week course put us on a disciplined time-​frame and gave structure to our at-​home training. And learning a set of uniform vocal and hand commands is helpful when there is more than one person in the household working with the dog. And when behavioral questions do come up it is great to have a resource to turn to. Not to mention that it’s a lot of fun and my puppy loved it!

Let me just start by saying that the service is top notch — every single person in here is polite, attentive, and happy to look high and low for any random thing you can think of. They let my puppy try on a packaged harness before buying it, and are thrilled to stuff him with treats at every visit. I have a very nervous rescue puppy, and everyone here is very patient and understanding of that. This place is a fun place for my pup to hang out; it’s somewhat of a doggie bar. Many customers come with their dogs, so all these dogs are hanging out, eating treats and sniffing each other’s crotches.
My only real kvetch that makes me dock a star is that the prices are pretty high. I have learned to just buy every thing I need on Amazon, then coming here only in emergency cases. That being said, they also have been out of stock of most things I was looking for when I needed them, like doggie toothpaste, any large dog beds, and Halo puppy chow. This is probably because this location is relatively small compared to others. Ah well. We’ll keep coming for the doggie bar.

This unleashed has some of the nicest staff of all of the branches in this area. Everytime I’m there, the staff are friendly without being overbearing. Frequently, when I have to get giant tubs of litter, there is a staff member willing to help me carry things to my car.
It’s always clean, and it has a great location below Safeway so that I can take care of my grocery shopping AND my pet’s grocery shopping all at once. Having parking available is also a plus, particularly in this area of DC.

I really do love this place! The staff is ALWAYS friendly and it has most everything Fido needs (or Nelly, Colbie and Pup). I’m not a cat owner, but it is well stocked in that arena, too. I like the fact it pulled all treats not made in America from its shelves. Food, too. I like to know that I am not giving my pooches junk from China! Thank you, Unleashed by Petco for watching my dogs’ back!

I love this store — and you probably will too. Yes, i know it’s a chain. But the staff are extremely friendly, always greeting my dog with treats and asking if they can assist. They are knowledgeable about products and attentive. The store has more boutique pet items than other stores, which is great if you have animals with sensitivities.
The store is always clean and products are easy to find. They have a great clearance section, too. Prices may be slightly more than if you went to Target or Walmart, but if you have a Petco rewards card you can get discounts periodically.

When I first visited this store three years ago the owner was the worst of the worst, rude, waited 15 minutes to be checked out with no line, and his dog was very inappropriate to female customers without being corrected. A couple months ago I had to go back because it was the only place I knew that selled a certain product. I was in awe when I went back the store and staff were amazing!!! The staff was extremely welcoming and full of positive energy about working there and dealing with customers. The store was clean, concise, and stocked full of fantastic items and super sales!!! The new management turned this store around into a community for animal lovers to enjoy their shopping and share stories about their fur babies. Kudos!!! Now is on my as soon as I am in DC list to go to. I hope to bring my pup with me to s she can go too!!!

Always a pleasure coming here. The staff is great. Purchased a dog travel bag and had to return it because it was too small. I had no issues except the person on the register wasn’t fully trained so she had to grab the lead associate from the back during her break to help. Took kind of long which is fine to me. The annoying part is the full training of the cashiers. I am sure it’s not their fault but I think they should train them not only to do purchases, but also returns if they are going to be left alone in the register. Just my two cents.
I like this location because its under the Safeway store that has free parking. I like this location and will continue to come. Overall, the store and staff is great.

I understand where you are coming from and your frustration. I shop at this Unleashed, and I have been since 2010. I am sure they are sorry for the experience you had. It was not good that the store opened late and its also not good that you didn’t have anyone to help you at that moment. I would like to know what made the employee that came to open the store look like someone who worked in the stock room?
Although a «chain store» as some might say, they are a small store, and we are all human and make mistakes. It is unprofessional to open late and I dont know why that person who did come to open offered you no explanation, but I Think you should give them another chance. They are under new management and I’m sure would love the opportunity to show you how great their service really is.
I am going to assume, knowing how great and nice the staff is (it’s easy to get to know them if you shop often because they are a small business), that the person who opened was trying to get the office opened and registers and stuff like that and counting money, if the registers arent there i would imagine it would be difficult for them to ring any one up :)
They really are great and very helpful and love my dog. All of the staff is really nice and sincerely just want to help.
On saturday evenings is when they have my favorite staff members working there and the dog trainer Maryam who is super affectionate with dogs and completely loves what she does.

After not receiving my shipment from my online order on time for my new puppy, I decided to head to Unleashed by Petco to purchase essentials. I specifically came before work as they open at 9am. (This was a Friday morning)
At 9am the doors were not opened. I decided to wait a few minutes then called the store. No one picked up. At this point another person was also waiting. The doors were finally opened at 9:21 by someone that looked like he worked in the stock room. I was hoping to get some help choosing a crate, but no one was in sight to help me. I finally found a crate on my own, but it needed to be brought down. There was no one there to help me. By this time I was already running too late for work and had to leave with no purchase. The other person who was waiting with me outside was waiting to pay for her items.
It’s not professional for a chain store to open 21 minutes passed their scheduled opening time without any explaination or apologize. I left unsatisfied without seeing a single person.

Yes, it’s an evil chain. But it’s the only evil chain that carries my dog’s special limited ingredient food. They even have treats made from the same stuff! They have a wide array of toys, treats, and goodies for pups of all persuasions. The staff is always friendly and helpful. There’s a scale where you can weigh your beast in case you worry that you shower him/​her with a little too much caloric attention. There’s a doggy-​level water fountain for the shortest of furry visitors. And last but not least, there’s a snack bar. Not for you. For the dog.
