Urban Chic

I was at a loss after an unsuccessful first search for my graduation dress. I turned to Urban Chic to start off round #2 of my search. I found a ton of dresses that had a lot of potential; I must have had at least 15 dresses in my dressing room. It wasn’t hard to find sizes that fit me either.
I’m happy to say that I walked away with the perfect dress, a white Shoshanna lace number. The customer service was spectacular too, making sure to put dresses I picked in my dressing room (I probably wasn’t holding a dress in my hand for more than 3 minutes) and checking up on me without being overbearing. This is a high-​end store so prices aren’t cheap but if you’re looking for a quality dress, you’ll definitely find one here.

Very cute store with tons of options. I bought a really cute lavender day dress for my trip to Florida in a couple weeks. I will definitely be going back next time I’m in Georgetown. Service was great — dressing rooms very tiny but manageable.

I live in NYC which is probably the capitol of good retail! I have visited family in DC on several occasions and the first place I go is straight to Urban Chic. I enjoy shopping at Urban Chic more than shopping in NYC and that is saying something!!! They have the best selection of brands and merchandise and the sales girls know how to help without being too pushy. I am a size 10 or Large and they do have plenty of selection for that size. They have great handbags an amazing dress selection! If you are in the area you should definitely make a point in shopping here!

I am not from the DC area but decided to pop in for some shopping on one of my trips and I LOVED IT! They have the most amazing selection of Shoshanna, Milly and tibi summer dresses! I much prefer shopping at boutiques than department stores but usually hate that you have to go to so many boutiques to find what you need. That was not the case here — I had to stop myself from trying on more clothes in fear that I wouldn’t be able to say no!
The customer service was also wonderful. The two women who helped me immediately picked up on my style and brought me fantastic options! They were also really fun and friendly.
Urban Chic is a new must stop shop for me on my trips out to DC!

I’ve been living in DC for 6 years. Everytime I go into Urban Chic the girls always offer to help, they aren’t pushy and very accomodating. If you find something that isnt’ available in your size they always offer to call another store or order it in if possible. Urban chic is so great also because they carry my favorite line Soshanna and have the largest selection in the DC area. I also love how organized the store is and that you can rush in and buy something quick! For example, I had a 11 am flight out of DCA to Florida, and desperately needed white jeans, I called the store at 9 and they weren’t even open and let me run in and within five minutes they pulled jeans and I got a pair and went straight to the airport. I enjoy the girls especially Megan and the owner Lindsay. If your looking for a dress, jeans, tops, bathing suits and etc thats where I go.

I feel like I should be a huge fan of Urban Chic, but I’m not. Which is pretty weird, considering I love cute designer clothes and much prefer to shop in cute trendy boutiques like this one over department stores. But for some reason Urban Chic really doesn’t cut it for me. As previous reviewers have mentioned, the service here is sub par at best, and at the Bethesda location too. I should note that I much prefer the Georgetown location’s aesthetics to the Bethesda one… the spaces are quite similar but there’s just something about the Bethesda branch that feels a little too… forced. Georgetown’s location feels more cool and effortless, which is nice. I’ve actually purchased things at the Georgetown store before, whereas whenever I walk into the Bethesda store, I want to leave almost immediately and never want to buy anything. It’s weird, I know, but there’s something about the aesthetics there that just don’t feel right.
That being said, after giving both locations many tries, I’ve been skipping Urban Chic on most of my shopping excursions to Georgetown. There are a lot of other wonderful boutiques in Georgetown that I would much rather give my business to, which carry the same types of brands and have incredible customer service. The salespeople at Urban Chic have never «not greeted» me the way others claim, but I’ve found that almost every time I’ve shopped there, salespeople aren’t too eager to ask me what types of items I’m looking for, give me suggestions, check on me in the dressing room, or lots of other little things that would make my experience at this otherwise adorable boutique much more pleasant.
So to sum up, while I’ve never had a «problem» in my visits to this boutique, I’ve never felt particularly drawn to come back, either. It’s not the worst spot in Georgetown by any means, but I’d recommend a lot of other places over this one.

I love the clothes here– it’s label lust heaven. However, because of the price point I usually cannot afford to buy, I just like to look and get ideas. Occasionally, if there is a special event I will splurge but not every time. I felt like the staff were a little snooty and «watchful» when I was last there. I felt like everywhere I went someone was following right behind me yet, no one greeted me or anything! I felt awkward and not welcome even though I dress well and would appear to be their perfect clientele.

It’s odd to see so many reviews about poor customer service because I was greeted right away. Someone who seemed like the owner even walked over to me and started chatting with me and showed me the $ 25 and $ 50 jeans section! I wouldn’t have found them otherwise.
I haven’t purchased anything yet, so I’m witholding the final star, but to me this place is as good as it gets for finding something for events.
The hand bags are gorgeous! Calf skin tans, ivories, embellished with suede fringes, silver studs, gold buckles… ahhh torture! These are bags that you see Elle and Heidi with. If you are on the market for the «it bag» with a few hundred to burn, this is the place to do it. My favorite part is I’m supporting a local business and, like, Benetton.
Finally, the clothes are gorgeous. To me, this is the place I’ll go for a one stop shop for an event, a vacation, or some significant reason I need an outfit or two. Otherwise, I agonize over hopping from TJ Maxx to Filene’s Basement (and when does anyone ever actually see those cute things in Target that we only READ about??), then onto Gap, Banana… ugh. No time for that anymore. Vacay list: bathing suit, cover up, flirty feminine floral print dress, tank and capris. B’am! Vacation ensembles done in a jiff.
My fave part was the femininity in the clothes. There were frills and florals, but they were so grown up and sophisticated and sexy. Get this: warm tangerine color, loose fitting, silk (SILK!), racer back tank with a left chest pocket! If that doesn’t say feminine, practical, and sexy all in one for a sundown glass of wine in the summer, then I don’t know what does.

Stopped in the other day. They have some very cute clothes. Expensive but very nice. Designer jeans, handbags and the like. I’d probably go back if i was looking for a special cute outfit. Didnt see shoes.

I love this place! I was looking for a dress for an important event and had literally tried on about 30 dresses in a 2-​week period. I always have trouble with dresses as I am a 4 on top but a 6 on the bottom, so I really expanded my search and happened to come upon this place (as a DC newbie I hadn’t hit the boutique scene yet…)
All morning I had been walking in and out of stores rather quickly when the salespeople failed to greet me. (As an African American woman, it is important to me that shopgirls treat me just as well as they do everyone else! Otherwise, they will have to live without my commission and I will have to live without their clothes!) As SOON as I walked in, two very receptive ladies asked me if I needed anyhelp and were very responsive to my tastes.
Unfortunately, I didn’t find anything there that fit quite right, but I was very eager to tell them that I appreciated their help (my boyfriend laughed at me for pulling the «black card,» but I wanted to give them a much deserved pat on the back!) and I will definitely be back the next time I am looking for something a little unexpected and worthy of my friends’ envy!

THE boutique in DC. Stop here first before you visit any of the other shops in Georgetown. They offer fun, head-​turning pieces that are on-​trend, but you could see yourself wearing them for years because of their excellent quality. The dresses from Elizabeth and James were particularly drool-​worthy. I don’t know of any other independent boutique in DC that has as many of the lines I love under one roof.

I LOVE URBAN CHIC! I always come in whenever I need a new dress for an upcoming event whether it is a wedding, birthday party, work function etc. I came to Urban Chic actually several times for events leading up to my own wedding (my bridal shower, rehearsal dinner etc). The selection is excellent.
I’ve had good experiences with their service — the salespeople there are happy to help find sizes or to offer advice on accessories to go with certain items or to just offer thoughts on the different items I’m trying on.

Urban Chic is a fabulous larger-​than-​many boutique situated on Wisconsin Avenue in Georgetown, but away from most of the hustle and bustle of M Street. It can be expensive, but it carries high-​end designers (think DVF, Shoshanna, Tibi, Catherine Malandrino, etc.) and has a large selection of cocktail dresses, day dresses, and a wonderful selection of jeans. In short, it’s worth it. They also host sales and designer trunk shows fairly often, so if you’re on the lookout, you can catch some good deals. The online site (
) has been under construction for a while, but it’s good to see what’s in-​store before you head that way.
They’ve added a section in the back for kids, but since I don’t have any, I can’t attest to the price/​selection of the kids clothing.
Also, I shop there frequently fairly frequently, and I’ve never had any problems with snootiness or inattentiveness.

Yes, they’ve got great clothes and a better selection than a lot of Georgetown boutiques, but their customer service is abysmal.
I came in on a Friday afternoon when the weather was fabulous and I felt like spending some money on something new and bright for spring. When I walked in to Urban Chic there were 4 or 5 girls standing around the counter, chatting it up. Not one looked up to smile or say hello, even though I tried to make eye contact. I made my way around the boutique, carefully thumbing the size 2−4−6 Catherine Malandrino sundresses and silk Tibi tops. Still no greeting from the staff.
As a person who works in high-​end retail, this really made me want to say something snotty to the poorly highlighted, leggings-​as-​pants wearing, look-​a-​like shopgirl tribe, but instead I made my way straight to the door, vowing that if I ever had a Pretty Woman-​esque shopping spree, THIS will be the place I return to say «you work on commission, right?»

urban chic is adorable. their buyers are right on and because of the recent population of boutiques on m street, it is often overlooked and quiet (something i enjoy). extensive denim selection (as much if not more than co-​op) which i appreciate. definitely pricey because of the designers they carry, but it is very possible to find an outfit for nearly any occasion! i tend to shop there only when shopping for jeans or an occasion… because thats all i can afford. defintiely a fairly hidden gem in dc!

Cute shop with trendy, high end clothes. I tend to focus on the store’s denim selection, which is vast, as well as dresses, little tops and whatever is on the sale rack. The staff is, for the most part, really young, but I have found that if I approach them with a friendly attitude, I receive warm, helpful service in return. We shouldn’t have to walk into boutiques assuming the service will be snooty, but… it has happened so we do.

I get irked when people tell me that I am not wearing «age appropriate clothing.» Its not my fault that the easiest thing to do (when pressed to shop quickly is hit AE or A&F or even Old Navy and get it done and over with.
My recent find, Urban Chic, has helped me in making a change around to more modern clothes that you don’t see on the college kids. Like True Religion jeans (actually the jean selection overall is amazing here). And some really cute loose tops to go with them. I finally now own a blouse and wear it instead of a t-​shirt!
The sales staff here is warm and welcoming. In other boutiques I have gone into, the staff is snooty and standoffish (like that scene in «Pretty Woman» where Julia Robert’s character goes on her first shopping trip). Not the case here.
TIP: Did I mention they are having their «Winter Sale» right NOW? And that the clearance stuff is 40% off?

When I was merely a visitor to DC (a frequent guest, but a visitor nonetheless), I wondered where all the cute boutiques lived. I enjoyed my time in the area, sans shopping; and then I returned home to San Francisco to outfit myself in the Mission or Hayes Valley or some other little neighborhood spot. Once I shed my out-​of-​towner status and became a resident Washingtonianne, I was determined to track down the shops that would keep me feeling somewhat stylish and hip. After scouring through Unilocal,I hit the streets of Georgetown.
I had frequented the main area of this adorable neighborhood which was peppered with chain stores that provided decent shopping opportunities, but they definitely did not fit into the category of the «boutique.» Little did I know that just a few blocks down Wisconsin was where I wanted to be.
Urban Chic, Sassanova, Sugar — they’re all within a credit card’s throw of one another! Sindy L M. put me on the lookout for Urban Chic when she dubbed it «the best clothing boutique in Georgetown.» After visiting, I have to say that I agree with her. This store is pretty big and thus, houses quite a lot: Diane Von Furstenburg, Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent, Paul & Joe, Catherine Malandrino, Development, Botkier, Goldenbleu, Blue Cult… I could go on and on, but all this talk of all this fabulousness has me itching for some retail therapy. At least now I know where to go! And knowing is half the battle…
*Chic moms can now dress their little ones in Urban Chic for kids! There’s a whole little section in back for tiny tots. Too cute!

Cute clothes but god-​awful service! Not a person greeted me when I walked in, walked around, looked around, stood by a display. Instead the clerks were chatting about their weekend plans, their halloween costumes, etc. I had been there once before and did get good service then — but that was two years ago.
I had money to burn but Urban Chic wasn’t going to get a penny. Improve your customer service and I’ll consider coming back.
