Yes! Organic Market

I bought organic celery hearts and organic milk from this market yesterday. The celery was rotten from inside and the milk’s due date was yesterday. No need for me to say more.

I absolutely love this store! My go to lunch spot, everything is always fresh! When you see Organic we already know it come with a price Lol, so if you’re regular folk like me I wouldn’t advise trying to do a full grocery haul here! I have had everything from they wraps to they sushi and have no complaints at all!

This is my neighborhood Yes! and I think it’s the best one in the area because it’s a lot more spacious than the Adam’s Morgan and 14^th St locations. The staff is attentive and always ready to help and answer questions.
The beer/​wine selection is really good and they carry lots of great local/​craft on tap in the growler area-​pricey-​ish but grab a frequent growler rewards card and get one free after [?] # of fills.

Yes organic market has some good findings but it’s overpriced.
I like getting fruits that are on weekly special and such but other than that I don’t care much for «organic» cereal or granola.
Cashiers try to be friendly, but they’re not. And there are always boxes of stuff everywhere because they are stocking all the time. So it does not create flawless shopping experience at all.

I usually love Yes organic and appreciate their varied offering. I have been to most of them in DC. However, I hadn’t been to the one on Petworth until now (just moved in the area). And I am utterly disappointed and horrified at the number of expired items they still have on their shelves. I went to Yes Organic twice today to return expired items. The first item that I picked up this morning was their chicken sausages. I opened it a couple of hours after purchase and the stench of it made my stomach turn! Come to find out, this particular item had an expiration date of 1÷10÷15. I went back to return it and on my way picked up their sunflower seed bread. Needless to say that the bread has started molding. I am too tired to go back today to do yet another return. This is for me VERY unacceptable!!!

Friendly and super eager to help staff. Seriously, someone always stops to check if you look even remotely confused, and the other night, I was trying to pop in and out before they closed, and one of the staff offered to look for something in the back even though they were literally a minute from close. The wines are a little overpriced, but they have a really interesting selection of beers that are pretty on par pricewise with regular grocery stores, awesome unusual sodas like Bruce Cost’s ginger ale and St Belvoir elderflower presse, locally made or specialty ice creams and gelatos, and lots of hippie organic natural bath and beauty products like all kinds of Dr Bronners including the rose scent. They also have some beers available to take home in growlers — good for a party!
Selection of foods is limited, but hey, it’s a pretty small store.

If you live in Petworth there really is no reason to shop anywhere else for groceries. Sure Safeway is just down the street, but Yes Organic is so, so much better! The prices are competitive, the atmosphere is GREAT, and the staff is really friendly. I’m reluctant to give it such a great Unilocal Review because I don’t want it to get too crowded. The selection is amazing. Great wines. Great meats and cheeses. Just all around a great market. Petworth is lucky to have it.

I absolutely love Yes! market. It is the best place to grab healthy goodies when making a mad dash between work, childcare, and home. The market is small and never over crowded. Plus, it has an incredible variety of heirloom produce and specialty meats. Not to mention, all the essentials for those with food restrictions.
I did the gluten-​free thing for a while because wheat and a flat tummy seem to not go together, at least for my body anyway. Thankfully, I was able to get all kinds of things to eat here from gluten-​free pizzas to snacks. It was great.
This Yes! Market even sells growlers of locally brewed beer. What more could anyone ask for? And, if that wasn’t enough, they always have the Liberté yogurt I love in plenty of variety.
The only downside to this place is the décor. It could use a little love. It’s kind of dark and depressing. There is no urge to linger and peruse the shelves. You just want to get in and out because there is nothing enticing you to stay. Well, there is the fact that the store manager is a super cutie. Ogling him is always worth an extra stroll though the aisles! :)

Yes! Is a nice small grocery option in a neighborhood that doesn’t have too many organic/​all natural options. While the name yes! Organic would lead one to believe the store is only organic, read the labels, especially in the produce aisle… many of the produce items are conventional.
The selection is good but limited — this is the kind of place where you go if you’re missing an ingredient rather than when you’re looking to do all of your grocery shopping.
The prices here are high but sometimes you can catch a great sale and if so make sure to stock up… they run out of items pretty quickly. They don’t stock any unique items that make this a go to.
Cutomer service can be less than stellar and the cashiers have at points been downright rude.
Good beer and snack selection.

This place is super convenient with parking always available somewhere. I love the focus on local and organic produce, and unlike supermarkets, they label the origin in big written words on a sign with the produce. Some produce is pricy, but supporting local, organic farmers and this business is fine if you can afford it.
If cost is a concern, go for bulk food! Tons of great choices! They also have weekly and monthly specials to help you stock up. They have coupons from manufacturers lying around, too.
I especially find it important to support a local market with the entry of a supermarket to the area. Yes also has some great food to go, ready to eat. So good! Love this place!

This store has significantly improved since the Safeway closed and they started turning over products more quickly. When it first opened, I would regularly purchase things only to discover they had expired when I got them home. That hasn’t happened in over a year (although I still check the tempeh packages obsessively). Compared to the older Yes Organic stores, this one is well designed and easy to shop. Prices are generally cheaper than Whole Foods, people are nice (although not sycophants) and leave you alone to shop, which I prefer. They have the best organic produce selection in the area, hands down, which is why I shop here so frequently. Safeway and Giant don’t carry nearly as many items, and fruits and veggies aren’t usually very fresh. And I love Takoma Co-​op, but they have limited refrigeration for produce and it shows. It’s very convenient for shopping as I can usually find most things on my list. Prices for specialty items are reasonable, while basic staples tend to be overpriced. Part of the reason is that the some of the grains and flours that I’ve bought in bulk have grown bugs, or sprouted, so I no longer buy in bulk here.
The meat and dairy sections are small, but tend to have one kind of most things (e.g. Bacon, sour cream).
A third of the store is devoted to beauty and wine, which I find irritating except on the rare occasion when I’m in the market. The wine area is very pleasant to shop in, it’s true. I would give them another star if they improved their gluten free options and carried more Asian ingredients (rice flours, black rice vinegar. dark soy sauce). They used to have fresh canyon bakehouse bread (often rated the best GF bread) but I haven’t seen it in months. They have a small selection, overall, so there’s always something on my list that I have to buy somewhere else. Today it was filè powder. Still, without Yes I’d need to shop in far more stores than I do. They fill a unique space that overlaps with a neighborhood supermarket, Whole Foods, health food store and Trader Joe’s.

A nice looking Yes location as they go. Larger aisles than most. Their bulk section was substantial, and they seemed quite well stocked overall. I can’t recall any of the other ones having a beer and wine selection this large, but it was a significant part of the store. They also had larger selections than my local Yes market for cheese and hummus/​dips. This one seemed oddly oriented towards stuff people buy for parties.
As with any Yes market, it’s pretty expensive for general groceries; nice to stop in and try to catch a few items on sale or mine the bulk bins.

This is a fantastic Yes! location– very large, full service grocery store. Excellent produce, great wine selection, and even a reasonably priced growler station. It isn’t cheap, but it’s certainly reasonable and there is a steady clientele that appreciates the great customer service. Glad to have it in the neighborhood.

The 2 stars are for service and prices. I have never been greeted or helped going into this store, and the service at the check-​out is always the same, god forbid I interrupt the conversation between the two cashiers drinking their coffee. Today was the third time this had happened (on different times/​different days), so I asked if the manager was in and the girl simply said «No.» and turned away from me.
Furthermore, I find it kind of hilarious that all the other reviews exalt Yes! for their prices. Yes, it may be a lot cleaner and quieter than Giant but at least I can get rice for $ 1.99 at Giant rather than a whopping $ 4.99 for the same box of Far East. And f I’m going to pay $ 3.99 for tomatoes, they shouldn’t already be badly bruised. Okay rant over. I’ll probably still go because of the location– but that’s it.

The good:

This place gets three stars just for being way closer than any other grocery store. Yes, it is way more expensive as well, as other posters have noted. I tend to stop in after work to pick up a few things and do a bigger trip once a week to a further, cheaper store.
I think the best things about the store are the bulk section and the variety of organic and special dietary needs options available. I haven’t been super impressed with the produce though. I bought a mango the other week – when I cut it open at home it was brown inside! Of course, that can happen anywhere.

I stopped in today to get some lunch essentials for the work week, and also just to check it out and slake my curiosity.
First impression: It’s much, much bigger inside than it looks on the outside. Second impression: A lot of that space is devoted to makeup, supplements and the beer/​liquor aisle. Third impression: Wow, this is kind of expensive.
I tend to work odd hours (late morning to mid-​evening) and like eating out, so when I cook at home I want something healthy but quick and simple. The prepared-​meals section here is fairly limited, but it does have a good selection of frozen vegetables, potato products, waffles and a TON of frozen meatless options (think Quorn). I’m not a vegetarian or a vegan, but if you are, I’m sure the store would make you very happy. The meat department was less extensive than I would have hoped (which I suppose is to be expected in a store that caters to vegetarians), and both the meat and the eggs were out of my price range, or at least, more than I was willing to pay.
The strongest things to be said for the store’s selections are its range of special-​diet foods (including an impressive non-​dairy milk selection) and its ethnic section (Indian and Asian foods especially, which can be hard to find). It also has generous produce and cheese sections. As to the non-​food aisles, I go grocery shopping to get food, not eight million supplements — I think the store could manage its floor space better.
It’s not perfect — don’t go in expecting the Foggy Bottom’s Whole Foods or anything — but for being an organic market in an up-​and-​coming neighborhood, it’s not bad and has all or at least most of your basics covered. I just need to look elsewhere for eggs and meat.
Oh, one more negative: The store doesn’t accept Amex. Not a deal-​breaker, mostly just inconvenient.

This is a great alternative to Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s… especially since there isn’t a Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s nearby. Yes, the prices are a bit higher than Safeway’s, but (unfortunately) there’s a premium for healthy food.
I love the layout of this store, everything is easy to find, and they carry all of my favorite brands of hair care products (Giovanni), skincare (Aubrey Organics), cleaning products (Mrs. Meyer’s), and even cat food (Wellness).
Tip: They accept credit cards except for American Express.

If I had a good Safeway nearby, I probably would not go here very often because of the price tag for food. It is definitely more expensive than Safeway, but I at least enjoy the food I get here. The fruit and veggies are delicious and organic. The milk and bread is pretty expensive.
One thing I like about this place is that there is no conveyor belt, just a counter. It makes it feel like a smaller, neighborhood grocery store that you go to frequently to pick up a few things.
The music selection is also really good. Since the Safeway down the street is dirty, unorganized, and an overall depressing experience, I will choose Yes for most of my grocery needs.

Say yes to Yes! Sorry, the only reason I’m reviewing this is for that pun.
I’m not much on fancy-​shmancy organic stores (read: Whole Foods) because a lot of the time they’re the same stuff as regular stores, but twice as expensive. But Yes! has a very good selection! And their produce is excellent. I would, however, avoid their meager meat offerings (with the exception of their bacon). It’s very expensive and you can get better virtually anywhere else.
This Yes! is also spacious and well-​organized. Not to mention close to me :)
