The Washington Crab and Seafood Shack has become a bit of a Friday night tradition for my sister and me and we have yet to be disappointed. Without a doubt they have the tastiest fried oysters anywhere in North Carolina. The oysters are always fresh and the sides (despite what another reviewer claimed) are definitely homemade. On our most recent visit we were surprised to learn they had added sweet potato casserole as a side. I do not know if it was a temporary addition or something we will see regularly, but I sure hope it is a regular menu item. YUM!
The prices are good (though admittedly not great) and portions are decent sized. You are paying for quality over quantity here, so do not expect the super large portions you might find at some of the joints hocking frozen fish and Delmonte green beans, Still, as you can see from the photo, a large oyster plate should satisfy most appetites. The staff is also very friendly and attentive which is great. On our most recent visit we were even treated to a singing chef that could be heard in the back! gotta love a man who enjoys his work.

Decent, but overpriced for a picnic table venue with ordering at the counter and disposable plates. Still, it’s the only casual seafood in town and their fate is fresh. Beware their oyster stew is not traditional, with a broth base.

Don’t let the appearance of the restaurant put you off. If it is good fresh seafood you are looking for then this is the place for you.
The people running the restaurant are friendly and provide good service. They are not obtrusive but seem to be right there if you need something. The restaurant is kept very clean.
Between the 4 of us in our party we had fried oysters and shrimp. Both the oysters and shrimp can be ordered cooked light, medium or dark. We all settled on either light or medium and were pleased with the result. The sweet potato casserole is a must try side. Quite obviously home made right there as was the key lime pie.
We enjoyed the food and experience so much we went back the very next night.

I passed this little place while my stomach was growling and had to pull in. It’s a quaint little open air place with indoor and outdoor seating — order at the window and take a seat. I got the crab bisque and fried oyster sandwich. The crab bisque was greasy but otherwise fairly decent. The fried oyster sandwich with coleslaw was good as well — lots of oysters. I believe their specialty is crabs so perhaps I should have ordered crab and given this place a four. Great staff and fast service.

The staff was nice. The food I had grilled flounder and my husband had «large «scallops. We were not impressed. Did not taste fresh, and I would not call the scallops large. The place was very small inside has three tables outside. sanitation grade was 98, and friendly staff there is the reason for two stars. For good fresh seafood would try something else.

Not sure how this place got 5 stars, however taste is relative… I got the hard steamed blue crabs… They were ok, not worth the $ 5 each. They were not very big. We only found out after our food came they had buy one get one free crab legs. One of us got the shrimp burger special with slaw (there was barely any slaw in the burger). The server said she would be back with the fries… She never came back at all. They are not big on service or A/​C… I’m giving them a 3…

Great ambiance. Cute little place with delicious food. Really cheap barbecue sandwich that was delicious. The snow crabs were delicious.

Heaven! Quick & perfectly cooked. Outside eating area for 4 — legged family members. Seafood roll VERY tasty!

We love Washington Crab and Seafood Shack. The food is perfect. If you like seafood, then you’ll love this place. If you hate seafood, then to hell with you.

A very pleasant surprise. I’ve been meaning to stop by here for some time. Finally tonight I did. The experience was very good. This is a no frills seafood restaurant. I ordered the grilled fish tacos and the grilled shrimp tacos, either of which would have been a full meal. I also ordered a side of fries and a side salad. Needless to say I have dinner for tomorrow night as well. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Fresh seafood and A+ service. The waitress actually sat down at the table and showed my mom how to peel and eat her crab. You can get your sea food fried, steamed, or grilled. The shrimp wrapped scallops were cooked perfectly! So often I get scallops that are over or under done. Lots of sauces to choose from. My husbands grilled Mahi Mahi was perfect. The potato salad and coleslaw were both fresh and delicious! This is the quintessential fresh sea food and crab shack you’ve been looking for!

Passing through town on work trip noticed this small spot to try some local fresh seafood. As I walked in I liked the vibe right away… small, clean, smells great and the fresh menu items are written on the wall boards!!! Just the way I like it! Ordered Soft Crab Bites and a small Clam Chowder.
The soup was completely different from the typical milky chowder, brothy, salty with a good amount of clams inside! The Crab Bites were A+!!!

I stopped here for lunch on the way through town a few days ago, and had a terrific softshell crab sandwich. It was fresh, crispy and just right! Sitting outside on the picnic tables in the shade was great too. This is definitely a place worth a detour!

Customers should go knowing they are getting frozen seafood and fries and canned sides, not fresh food. The food had little to no seasoning, so that can be good or bad depending on your preference. I ordered a side baked potato and upon slicing it open, it was old and brown. I tasted the side that was still orange, but the flavor was gone, so it was a pretty old potato. They didn’t put our order in correctly and didn’t fix it. There was nothing Cajun about the «Cajun catfish,» as it had no seasoning. Avoid the steamed menu if you like flavorful food. Overall, very disappointing and will not go back.

Awesome experience. First time for steamed oysters and they showed us how to open and eat. Very friendly. Soft shell crab was delicious and would order again.
