Airway Lanes

I host trivia at Airway Lanes on Wednesday nights at 8pm! It is a great place to host; friendly staff, great food & drink specials and an awesome crowd every night! The owner signed up for World Tavern Trivia and offered for me to host and I’ve been having a great time doing it! Come up and play sometime, we offer a free drink question every week and there are great prizes at the end of the game as well!

My evening of fun started out by walking in through their bar. It’s nothing to call home about but there were shots on special for $ 2, so I called home and a couple more people came up :-)
I even bought two random gentlemen at the bar a shot because… well… why not…
After our one shot we headed to the counter to get a lane, however there turned out to be an hour wait; boo…
Lucky us, karma struck immediately and one of the guys I bought a shot for was walking by! «J.T!» I yelled as we locked eyes and he moseyed my way, «what lane are you on, it’s an hour wait». He walked up and it looked like he knew the guy behind the counter and he said that we were with them; «what a nice guy!» I thought to myself. So I paid for our group of 5 to get added to their lanes, shoes for a couple of people and two games each ran about $ 40 or so. After bowling one game we decided we wanted to take the party somewhere else and let J.T. and his crew get back at it (they were paying by the hour and we felt bad by taking up their lane so we figured we’d just bowl one even though they insisted to stay and that we weren’t bothering them — super nice people!).
So I walk back up to the counter to get the money back for one game each that we didn’t bowl and the first gentleman (the guy who initially rung me up) wasn’t quite sure as to what to do; no problem, he asked the lady behind him. She just kept hammering on me about how I can’t get a refund. Being in sales I simply ask her, «why?» with a blank stare because I know damn well that I can get a refund, I didn’t bowl the games and there wasn’t a special, so why wouldn’t I be entitled to the rest of my money, right?
She kept giving me horrible attitude and eventually stormed off and the first guy gave me cash back (I paid with my debit card but I didn’t mind as long as I got the money). While she was up there (before I got my money back) a guy came up and wanted to pay for an extra game on the lane he was already on, I offered to pay for his game and just give me the remainder (4 games) because I was just assuming that her reasoning was that she didn’t want to give up the money — seemed obvious enough. She just said, «no!» and the guy thanked me for offering.
End of the story, got my refund after the lady was really rude but I’ll probably be back, hopefully she won’t be there… Maybe I’ll buy her a few shots before I talk to her next time, get her all liquored up and then ask for a refund :-) jk

Airway Lanes is the premier bowling center in central Oakland County. Two of my friends decided to go bowling at Lakewood Lanes last winter. When I told them that the place had burned down, they were bummed out. So we started to brainstorm, and Jarred came up with Airway Lanes as an alternative. He made a u-​turn in a parking lot, and we headed over to Highland Road.
Sadly, I didn’t have my own bowling ball or shoes with me, so I had to use the house equipment at Airway. Thankfully, they had my size, but Jarred had settle for a half a size larger since they didn’t have 11.5 available that night. Karen, on the other hand brought her shoes with her.
Airway Lanes, has some fantastic all you can bowl deals on the weeknights. Likewise, they have a full-​service pro-​shop, and a grille that serves some great food. However, what sets Airway Lanes apart from all the other bowling establishments in the area is their huge banquet facility, which can accommodate up to 250 people. This would be an ideal place to hold a wedding reception, whether the bride and groom are into bowling or not.
Moreover, Airway Lanes is the home to a large outdoor sand volleyball facility. This part is open during the warmer weather months and is always active. From what I have been told, there are men’s, co-​ed, and women’s teams that compete at this location.
So if you’re looking for a great place to bowl, hold a banquet, catch some volleyball, or pitch horseshoes, Airway Lanes is the place to go. It’s an ideal place to take the whole family, or even throw a birthday party for the kids.

Oh Waterford. Why you suck so bad?
My girlfriends boss had a fundraiser here for a softball team. She wanted to earn some brownie points so we got tickets and were ready to bowl.
I have a general question about bowling alleys. Why the hell do they continue to live in the era of 1978 — 1992? Between the neon wall décor and the laser grid pins above the lanes I could easily be convinced I had been taken hostage in a DeLorean that had a faulty flux compositor and traveled back to a time when parachute pants we high fashion. This goes without mention of the «technology» used for scoring. I can make excel spreadsheets that looks better than the Bowlkeeper 6000 scoring system. I don’t know if that’s what they call it but it seems likely.
Why does every serious bowler either wear track pants or jorts? They always look so angry too. «Fuck you guy who didn’t evenly oil my lane!» Truly the sport of kings!
Airway lives up to everything you expect from a bowling alley. Expensive over-​fried food, bright house balls, and thunderous cheers for the strike ball winner. This place gets two stars for having more than Miller Lite and Bud Light to drink. I enjoyed my Sierra Nevada whist people watching.
