Growing up we used to get fried haddock from Jean’s Beans. Always good. I was I the area recently and stopped in. Everything… even the tartar sauce was exactly as I remembered it. Delicious food. Very friendly service.

I’m not even a huge fish person but was driving by on my way home(not feeling like cooking) and stopped in. Glad I did !! Had the fish and fries with scalloped potatoes as the side. It was a lot of food but ALL delicious ! I haven’t lived here long and I’m glad I found this place!

Was slightly confused the first time we went but we followed the crowd to figure out how to order. Their chicken sandwich is amazing. Loved the homemade mayo and their onion rings. As for their other side dishes we weren’t huge fans of them. The salt potatoes were good, nobody liked the mac and cheese. Hoping to make it back there one day to try out their fresh baked desserts and donuts.

Honestly, this place was not that good to me. I got the fish sandwich because supposedly the place had good fish, but it reminded me of the fish sticks you put in the oven years ago when I was a kid and those fish sticks tasted better. I will say that the macaroni and cheese was pretty good. I would go back and get that again. I also had onion rings with my meal and the better on those was really good as well. I think I was mostly disappointed because I really had my heart set on some fish and it wasn’t good. So I guess my expectations ruined my experience. I don’t think I will be trying this location again. The service was friendly and the price wasn’t too bad. The location is really small and I don’t think it was anywhere to sit down and eat. This place is more of a order and go. Nevertheless I’m glad I got a chance to experience this location. Maybe if you tried it out you will have a better experience than I did.

So I’m from Buffalo, NY. A place with a decent fish fry on every corner. To say this is the highest rated fish fry in Watertown is sad. It would get no stars in Buffalo. The fish is tender is just has horrible batter and a dirt taste to it. Besides the fish everything else was fantastic. The bread roll, the fries were decent. The macaroni salad was on point! The people inside were so nice. I’d go again I just wouldn’t get the fish fry. I guess I’ll shall keep this pregnancy craving for Buffalo only.

Best take out food in Watertown. Been frying up their tradition for a long time. Whether it’s breakfast donuts, a lunch chicken sandwich, or a dinner slab of deep fried haddock, this place whips up the best entrees and sides in the city of Watertown. Customer for life

Ok, so i’m not that big on 5 star ratings, but Jean’s Beans earns it all the way. it has this down-home feeling that’s hard to find in the north country, and i just love the whole«pick and choose» buffet style they have. Also, I have a «Not-So-Secret», secret love of fish, and i cant recall a single time iv been disappointed. the seafood platter is AWESOME ! and i can take it home. this is the place for a «no-hassle movie nite»(plus there’s a redbox at the Walgreen’s a block away) now all good stories also have a bad point, and here it is: if you want the meatloaf, the mashed potatoes, or coleslaw to have the normal texture you have to come earlier than 4:30. i usually get there around 4:30ish and its always dried out by the time i get it, and drive home(i live 10 min away) . overall 5 stars

Still all my stars sent this way. Sides that we had along w the dinner for 2 were Mac n cheese, not a winner, it wasn’t bad but not creamy, that kind of seperated/clumpy, overly done roni Macaroni salad on the other hand was awesome, nice tang Coleslaw finely chopped fresh and slightly vinegar toned Beans of course, thick, smokey, fatty yumness The fish, light breading, tender, thick and moist, slathered in homemade tartar

I have been eating from Jean’s Beans since 1979. The have excellent fried scallops, shrimp, and haddock. They also have burgers and chicken wings, side salads, rolls, and donuts. They will deliver too.

I saw this restaurant the last time I visited my nephew and wanted to try it. However I did not have the opportunity but I made it my business to this trip. I have never had such wonderful service. They walked me thru the entire menu and the restaurant. They make the tartar sauce and pies daily. The mouth watering scallops was to die for. This was the first time I enjoyed scallops. The haddock and mash potato was also good. I ordered the seafood platter that came with shrimp, haddock, clamp strips, butter roll, and your choice of between fries, sweet potato fries or onion rings and side. I chose onion rings and mash potato. The kids meal came with a piece of desert and we had the chicken nuggets and fries. I also ordere a side of Cole slaw. Most of the sides go by weight. I also tried the apple pie which was my least favorite. It was limp meaning very thin and I did not taste one bit of an apple. I strongly recommend this restaurant for food that was full of flavor and great hospitality. P.s my 1 year old nephew loved the mash potatoes and gravy so did I.

I”ve been eating at Jeans for years. They have a variety of foods to choose from ranging from pasta, salads, chicken, and seafood. If you are new to eating here you may be confused as to how the layout works but there is always friendly staff members to help you. My go to meal is the haddock dinner. A large piece of fish, fries, and a side of mac and cheese is enough to fill me up. You get so much for your money it’s a guarantee that you will be satisfied. As I said before they have a large variety of foods so even the most picky customers should leave satisfied. What is also a nice touch is they even sell a large variety of homemade baked goods. Dinner rolls, pies, cookies, doughnuts, hamburger rolls and fresh breads are always on display and look amazing. Recently they have gone through slight renovations which added a small eating area inside which is a nice addition. Jeans is a Watertown staple and I’ll be eating here for many years to come.

I have eaten here many many times before and even bought holiday special meals before in the past. It’s a middle of the road local family owned establishment. For convenience and to allow more family time without the hassle of cooking and cleanup, we ordered the packaged meals again this year. The workers who were there seemed confused and hurried even though there weren’t many people coming in at the time we picked up the meals we had pre-ordered. To our suprise both the quality and portions were not up to their normal standard. The mac & cheese for kids was watery and thin and I had to bake it an additional 40 mins and add cheese to get it edible. We actually had leftovers from slim portions because the meal just didn’t seem freshly prepared. Even the squirrels aren’t eating these leftovers! We also bought 2 pies. These were undercooked too and relatively tasteless. I think our family would have been more satisfied with selections from the grocery store frozen food isle. I would NOT recommend Jean’s Beans for holiday dinners or related fare.

Too bad for Kelly B. this has been an establishment since 1953. I used to live in the area and would bring meals home to the cottage at Knobby Knoll on Lake Ontario. On this visit, I brought some newbies with me. We asked for two, large haddock fillets. The cook showed us the two pieces before coating them and gently placing them in their fryer. While these were cooking, we ordered a pound of their famous baked beans and some scolloped potatoes and ham. Then we noticed their rolls… Sinfully good. All in all, the meal was perfect. The recipes never change. Seems to be the same process since I was a child. Very much like homemade. It’s always busy. But never too busy to be friendly to their customers.

So our first time here, we were a little overwhelmed. We didn’t quite know how to order, and we walked around aimlessly for a second. Someone finally shoulted out where we could go and we went ahead and grabbed the chicken sandwich combos. :) the people who worked there were super friendly and informative. At first, it appeared like the food was frozen but later realized it tasted AMAZING. Food is so good, definitely not healthy by any means. but huge portions, and tasty deliciousness. Along with combos, you get a hot side from their buffet style side areas. Theyre baked ziti and mac and cheese are TASTY. Prices are pretty low. Reason they dont have a 5 star is because I didn’t particularly feel the place looked clean. but the amazing customer service we recieved was amazing.

This place is a hidden gem. Everything is take-out from fish fry(their specialty) to pies to doughnuts. Everything they serve is made fresh and from scratch, even their doughnuts. I only got their baked ziti and one doughtnut, but I will definitely come back to try their other dishes. If you plan to have a huge gathering and not have enough time to cook, they have everything a cook out needs.
