Trevens Specific Chiropractic

I went to Trevens Specific Chiropractic soon after I started working in Watertown as I have had chronic (mostly lower) back pain since I was very young. I’ve always had great experiences with my chiropractors and didn’t seem to think there was any reason to be wary of these guys after all the great reviews I read and after I met the very nice staff, including the doctors. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
I had never had neck problems before I came to Trevens. However, their philosophy is that the neck will throw everything else out of alignment if it isn’t «adjusted» (judo chopped?).
After extensive specialized x-​rays of my neck which are not usually covered by insurance, I went in to get «adjusted.» I made it very clear that I only had 12 visits covered by insurance and due to work at a non-​profit could not probably continue after. They said they’d discuss continuing once the 12 were up and not before.
The 12 appts came and went very fast as they pressed for at least 2 times a week if not 3. After they did, they brought out the paperwork for continuing, which was (as expected) very expensive and out of my price range. It was at this point that I stopped going to them.
Immediately after, my neck started to develop the problems my back has for so many years. Now, nearly 3 years later, my neck is filled with trigger points and gives me daily terrible pain, which I go to other, better chiropractors and massages to address. The «treatment» at Trevens, while it may work for some people, should be carefully considered before beginning as it only made my problems much much worse.

Once again I find myself singing the praises of Trevens Specific Chiropractic. I just finished my daily 3 mile hike! I love spending the time each day hiking outdoors, weather permitting. When the weather doesn’t cooperate, I head for the gym and settle for the treadmill. It feels wonderful to be able to exercise and feel so healthy. I value my good health and appreciate Trevens Specific Chiropractic as one of the main reasons I continue to enjoy such an active and happy life.
Many years ago I sustained serious soft tissue injury to my neck, shoulder and upper back. The recovery was slow and never complete. Nothing really helped. Traditional medicine offered medication and physical therapy. I also tried massage. I finally found relief and healing working with Dr. Trevens and experiencing specific chiropractic. Recently I experienced what I believe was a flareup related to that initial soft tissue injury. I had severe pain in my right shoulder and upper arm. It responded quite quickly to specific chiropractic treatment and I am thrilled to report that I am again completely pain free.
I am 67 and retired. I see so many people my age and younger suffering from debilitating, painful and limiting physical problems and diseases. Many of these people have been taking numerous medications and then have to deal with uncomfortable and concerning side effects. They are at best treating and relieving symptoms and at worst creating other damage to their body and overall health with these medictions. I am so thankful to have been a patient at Trevens Specific Chiropractic for the past 15 years. I am completely convinced that specific chiropractic has kept me healthy, active and prescription free all these years.
The doctors and the entire staff are most caring and helpful. They truly care and work very hard to get and keep their patients well and healthy. The atmosphere in the office is very upbeat and positive. If you are looking for an alternative to traditional medical methods and/​or medication, I strongly recommend you try this office in Watertown.

I was directed here by my yoga teacher who pointed out that my posture was off balance. I was also having some other health problems at the time that after some time of treatment here started to improve. I had some hayfever and ragweed allergies that were pretty bad. I am always reminded in the Spring around this time that I need to get into Trevens to get an adjustment when stuff starts kicking up. It helps me.
I had headaches from the sinus pressure too and chiropractic adjustments helps a lot. it is actually cool because when I think about it I have not needed the allergy medicine for a few years. I had some extensive dental work done a month or so ago and had some jaw pain from it. Went in last week for an appointment and am feeling much better. They know what they are doing. I enjoying going in because the super friendliness of the office puts a smile on my face.

Oh boy. I didn’t become suspicious of this place until my first «adjustment». I was pretty trusting at the initial visit when I met with the female doctor who seemed great. However when I came back and was told my treatment plan and then decide to read some reviews it all became very clear. This place is a very thinly veiled scam.
I (just like several other negative reviewers on Unilocal) was told I had to come in 3 times a week for the first month (THREE TIMES A WEEK!!) and then 2 times a week for a month and then once a week for a month. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. That is completely absurd. And the fact that that is pretty much EVERYONE’S treatment plan is ridiculous.
I have a fairly generous insurance plan that would pay for 20 visits a year. I was surprised they’d pay for any of it considering the research on the benefits of chiropractic care is still very much up in the air. So I wouldn’t have even been able to make it to the end of the second month before I’d be paying out of pocket.
I could barely contain my laughter about the rolling thermal scanner. Give me a break, please. I just, I can’t…
I wonder if the female doctor and the very nice secretary are aware they are part of a scam this large. I’m sure the doctor must, which is a shame as she seemed very kind.
I was there for about an hour and 15 mins for my first adjustment. I was taken very late, «adjusted» for 5 seconds and then forced to lay down for half an hour. During this time I watched an amazing number of people come in and out and all I could think was «holy sh*t they are just sucking people dry.» I am not exaggerating when I say I saw at least 15 people on a Tuesday evening in the span of under an hour and a half. It would almost have been funny if it weren’t so horrifying.
I really hope people do their research on this place. I will never go back here and probably have been turned off to chiropracty as a whole as a result.

Dr. Bill Treven’s gave me my life back… what more can I say! I had never heard of upper cervical chiropractics and was fortunate enough to hear an advertisement on the radio for this procedure. I had tried physical therapy, other chiropractors and acupuncture for chronic pain since my motor vehicle accident. My accident took me out of ICU nursing and I had three children to care for. I had constant back and neck pain with tingling and burning down both arms and legs. I was on several medications to make life bearable. To make a long story short, my pain is gone thanks to Dr. Treven’s and I’ve returned to my profession. It’s amazing how pressure at the atlas and axis level can cause so much grief. (The word ridiculous is in the word ridiculopathy) which describes the referred pain one experiences from spinal nerve compression. I have no doubt that millions of people are suffering with pain and disease needlessly. I recommend this particular chiropractics for everyone because the nervous system controls everything.

After having a problem with a bone in my neck a friend of mine told me about this clinic. It was causing a lot of pain on my left side of my neck and body. I had trouble sleeping, I felt major headache and pain on my arm and knee.
During this treatment I have felt less pain and I slept better. It reduces my stress when I am able to sleep better so that has improved and I had not expected that. I have overall been happy with this treatment and feel better and happy now with no more pain.
I like going into the clinic because you can tell the doctors and staff care about me and it is a nice office. The treatment is different than I had n the past but it is working for me and my friend was happy here too.

My experience at this doctors office has been wonderful and one of healing. I have received care here off and on for years. There have been several doctors come into this practice then move on, however the doctors in there now are lovely and I have referred many people to them over the years. It is a busy office but I always feel I am given the attention and care that I need. They take an interest in me and my healthcare and you can feel the warmness from everyone there. It is a relaxing office and nicely laid out so I feel comfortable.
I especially like this type of chiropractics because they are focused on a corrective process. I only get adjusted where and when I need it not just some random popping up and down my spine. Think about it, it just makes sense.
My major problems when I started were chronic pain in my neck, shoulders, pain shooting down my arm, low back pain running down my left leg and painful muscle spasms. This constant pain and discomfort made it difficult to work and do household chores. It was sometimes difficult to drive when I was unable to turn my neck without pain or use my left arm.
This of course, interferes with my ability to do my job and my hobbies, which was really impacting my life. All of which reduce or go away after treatment and allow me to have better coordination and more strength. I notice when I am under stress things flair up but I go in for an appointment and they fix me up.
The most exciting thing for me is that I have even been able to discontinue the use of my pain medication that I hated being on because of stomach upset and other undesirable side effects. I always recommend Dr. Bill when I hear someone complaining of a pain or health problem.

I can’t say enough about this place, this was my first place for chiropractic therapy and I’ll never go anywhere else. Very friendly, I love that they have rooms for you to lay down in before and after your adjustment. They always take the time to talk to me and go over my treatment and progress. I was living with so much back pain and only they have been able to help.

One thing I always try to do before writing a review is to read a bunch of the most recent postings on Unilocal about any establishment. This place is strange because either people love it or hate it. No one is in the middle.
Unfortunately, I’m on the hate it side. There are a few reasons.
1) The rolling thermal scanner technology. I don’t buy it. How does someone rolling a device along my cervical vertebra suddenly going to get a reading on how my entire autonomic system is doing? I didn’t even have to take off my shirt because he only rolled the device along the back of my neck. Also, I repeatedly saw readings on the screen that made me seriously question whether any of it was valid.
2) If you are scheduled for an appointment, then you should have an adjustment done. But at this place, they use their rolling thermal scanner technology to tell patients that their nervous system is functioning fine and that there is no need for an adjustment. Oh, by the way, you still have to pay the same price as if you went in for an adjustment. This is a practice that should seriously be investigated by health insurance companies. Medical doctors are billed according to specified codes of what they do. Is this place really going to tell me that using the thermal scanner without doing an adjustment is the exact same price as using the thermal scanner and also doing a spinal adjustment?
3) Any chiropractor who asks you for a lot of money up front is a chiropractor who is running some sort of game. It would be like a patient with chronic fatigue syndrome being asked by his/​her primary care physician to pay up-​front for the next 10 visits. The only type of medical professional who would ever do this is one who is not confident about holding onto that patient.
4) I know four people who went into this place for evaluations and treatments. Despite having different levels of problems ranging from just a little back tightness and shoulder pain (myself) to hip and back problems (my cousin) to moderate problems with premature arthritis (my cousin’s friend) to fairly complex back problems from years of powerlifting (my gym buddy), all of us were put on the exact same treatment regimen of going to him 3 times per week for the first month, 2 times per week for the second month, and then 1 time per week for an adjustment plus 1 visit for an evaluation during the third month. This is kind of like me seeing a patient with a scraped knee, another one with a concussion, and a third patient with a broken leg and saying that they all require the same treatment program.
5) I don’t like medical professionals who get defensive. I also don’t like the feeling of getting set up. When I am asked to lean towards one side while an A-​P (anterior to posterior = front-​to-​back) x-​ray is being taken to assess any spinal curvatures and then the following visit the doctor tells me that my spine is curved as if my body was leaning to one side, then I will start carefully questioning that medical care professional. And as you can see from a couple of the other reviews, I’m not the only one who has noticed a certain defensiveness from this place.
In the end, all four people I know (myself included) who went to Trevens Chiropractic have gone elsewhere and are very happy with our new chiropractors. If you go into a place and are going to pay your hard-​earned dollars, then you need to feel comfortable. I’m lucky because I didn’t walk into this place with serious problems, so maybe that helped me pay more attention to what they were actually doing rather than focusing on hope that relief was coming.
Since going to my new chiropractor, I can tell you that a great chiropractor can really make a positive difference in your quality of life. But the only guarantee about a shady chiropractor is that he/​she will lighten your wallet. Trust your instincts!!!

All the doctors and staff here are caring and committed. When I suffered from severe headaches and back aches I was referred to this office by an acquaintance. In addition to the pain I had difficulty concentrating, always felt fatigued and poor memory. Since having the treatments here, my headaches are gone and I notice improvement with the other problems I mentioned and I have a much more positive attitude. It has been nice to receive the high standard of medical care that I get at this office. If you are looking for great care, it is here you will find it.

I appreciate the time that Dr. trevens took to explain this branch of Chiropractic Medicine to me. I was really helped with this treatment. It provides me with a balanced approach to my own health. I had sciatic nerve pain down my leg with tingling. With regular adjustments I have been able to get off my prescription pain medication and have started a diet and exercise program that has helped me in many ways. The office is newly renovated and nicely decorated. I have always found the doctors and staff to be overly helpful and friendly.

I had a very debilitating illness that I had to cope with for 2 ½ years. I had a very limited lifestyle and there were times when I thought I would never be able to achieve my goals and other ambitions as a dancer and artist. After many different doctors basicly telling me just to «rest and you’ll be better» or «unfortunately with Fibromyalgia (what they call my chronic pain condition) there is no set immediate cure» I became even more frustrated.
After 3 months with with a programopf treatment with Dr. Trevens office, I learned the effects of our bodies being out of alignment on my nervous system. After I was adjusted, it was like a miracle had happened! My whole body felt more centered, my chronic joint pain from my head to my knees decreased, my overwhelming fatigue began to disappear, along with chronic infections that I kept having.
After my treatment I have finally been able to go back to Graduate school and my achievement and dreams are now in my future. I am very greatful for my renewed health. I am so happy to be back to my true self and am confident to recommend this office.

The staff in here is very friendly, and Dr. Trevens & wife operate the office together.
I have been coming in here for therapy since Sept. 2011. I was really hurt (back & neck injuries) from a car accident. Now I feel great with only three months into the treatment.
What I love the must about this place is how professional they are.
Dr.Trevens takes his time to explain the entire process and shows you the improvement that’s been made.
What else can I say… I highly recommend this therapy place. I also loved the fact that i was constantly getting friendly emails & calls reminders for my appointments. I liked that!

Great chiropractic experience for me and my kids! I’ve suffered from low back pain, due to a herniated disc, for years. After other disappointing chiropractic experiences I was skeptical. Then a colleague of my husband’s recommended Dr. Trevens. Upper cervical care was a revelation to me, and it made sense. Since starting with Trevens, my back pain is pretty much gone– I am able to do everything I used to do and then some.
Dr. Trevens has also been wonderful for my children. My daughter has suffered from numerous ear infections. And although she occasionally still gets them, Trevens’ care has significantly reduced the occurrences. Not only that, but when she does get an ear infection, adjustments have helped her bounce back much quicker– without the use of antibiotics!
And whenever someone isn’t feeling well, Dr. Trevens is our first stop, even before our primary care. Getting an adjustment and making sure the body is working properly, has greatly reduced the need for antibiotics and other medications in our lives– a great thing! The other day my four year old son had a virus with a high fever. I suspected he needed an adjustment– and was right. Within a few hours after the adjustment, his fever was reduced significantly, and the next day he was back to his regular self.
To boot, Dr. Trevens and his wife are super kind, caring people. I highly recommend their practice!

Dr. Trevens is a nice guy and the staff is friendly enough, but I’m not sure I’m sold on the method. I have lower back problems and the practice is solely focused on cracking your neck to ensure your head is on straight (yes, seriously! The idea being that if your head isn’t straight, your whole body is mis-​aligned.). The office is a bit dingy and equipment is run down. They took 9 X-​Rays on an old machine — I’m sure all the radiation took a couple years off my life. Also, be prepared to be «required» to make at least 3 office visits a week. Even with insurance, this gets expensive quickly. I gave up after 3 weeks with the same back pain as when I started.

I have been going to Dr. Trevens and Dr. Wright (both at Trevens Specific Chiropractic) for many years now for back injuries and for check-​up visits. I recommend them very highly! They are always friendly and helpful, they explain what they are doing, they’re happy to answer questions, they don’t do an adjustment if the adjustment isn’t necessary, and most importantly (to me) they have helped me heal from a number of lower back injuries (including terrible sciatica from a herniated disc). There are many chiropractors closer to where I live, but I drive 30 minutes to Trevens because I trust them to take good care of me.
