Sunset Automotive Inc #1

Went in today to get an oil change and tire rotation. Reasonable prices at $ 44 including tax for a large SUV.
I also mentioned that I was going to replace my thermostat myself and instead of being a pushy salesman, the man working the front desk was very polite and gave me advice.
Seemed to be very honest and got me in and out quickly.

After trying to go over a heap of snow, my car got stuck. I tried to get over it but my car would not move, it was stuck, so I pushed on the gas to get over it. I finally did, but my serpentine belt broke and my battery and car just shut down. My friend and I were in the car stuck. I couldn’t put my emergency lights on to warn other cars to go around. Other cars were bunking their horns and yelling negative things to us, which made me upset. I used my phone to find a tow shop to tow my car from where I was stuck to my home. My car got stuck Tuesday February 26^th 2013, the day it. There was the big snow storm. I went online and saw Sunset Automotive Inc. and two other tow shops. I called Sunset Automotive and there was a man that answered I told him what my problem was, then he put me threw to his receptionist. The woman with a sweet and caring voice which was the receptionist ask me where I was stuck at and where I wanted the tow truck to take my car. I told her I wanted it to be towed to my home and I gave her the address. She told me it would cost 90 dollars to tow it to my home and she said it would be cheaper if I had it towed to their shop and had them look at my car to see what the problem was. I said okay, but what I didn’t know was that I would be charged for them to look at my car to see what te problem was, and she did not tell me that at all, I was told that the next day after they told me how much it would be to fix it. They came atowed my car quick from where I was stuck, which was a good thing because I had already been sitting in my car for almost 3 hours after it got stuck. The next day a man called me and told me how much it would be for them to fix my car. He said it would be almost $ 700 dollars to fix my car. I was like what the heck!?? He said there was two belts that needed to be fixed, I needed oil, I needed an alternator pump, my exhaust was messed up, etc. I told him I didn’t need all of that fixed, I just needed the serpentine belt fixed because I heard a belt break under my car after I went over the pile of snow. He was trying to argue with me over the phone that I needed all of that done to my car or it would have lots of problems. I did not have that kind of money and the car didn’t need all of that done to it. I just told him what I heard break on the car which was the belt and allI wanted was the belt fixed, nothing else. He kept trying to explain why I needed that done, so I gave the phone to my father. He ut an end to this arguing back and forward. My dad has been working on cars for years and he told the guy on the phone I didn’t need all of that done, and he told the guy on the phone that he was trying to pull one over on me and he knew better. The guy lowered the price from almost $ 700 to $ 500 dollars and my dad still said no and that he wanted my car out of their shop and that it will be towed to a different shop of people that my dad knew and much affordable prices for my car and they will check exactly what I need and fix and they will not check anything else on my car or charge me for extra parts to be fixed that don’t need to be fixed. He tried arguing with my dad but my dad ignored it. The guy said it would cost $ 75 for them checking the problem and I don’t think they even put their hands on my car to see what the problem was so why did it cost $ 75 for them checking it?! $ 75 is a lot for checking the car and they probably used a computer to check it. So I was charged for towing plus for them checking it. Altogether it cost $ 160 for them to release my car to me. Then we had to come up with $ 40 to get my car towed away from there and to a different auto shop to get it fixed. The auto repair shop we went to next charged me $ 90 to take the broken belt off and put another one on and they didn’t charge me for checking it or find other problems with my car. My car works well now and I drove it home and drive it to and from work with no problems. I want to let others know about Sunset Automotive Inc. and not to have them tow your car because its too expensive to tow home or to their shop. Don’t let them talk you into taking your car to their shop they will charge you for checking it and they will tell you that you will need everything fixed on your car except what really needs to be fixed. They will charge you a lot of money for parts you can buy at a part house that’s way cheaper. If it’s your first time getting your car fixed, do not go to Sunset Automotive in Waukegan, IL. If you have a fixed budget or don’t have a lot of money to pay for your car getting fixed, don’t go there at all, they will charge you a lot of money and they will try to sweet talk you into going to their shop.
