We believe each student can learn to compose their own music, and we intend to take each student from where they are to where they want to be. We compare learning to read and write music to learning to read and write the printed word.

We like to start with a vision of the finished product. The Theory of Music gives the student tools. In other words we show the student a simple way to use what they already know. In 5 to 10 minutes the student can see results. We want the student to believe in themselves.

In the 1^st lesson the student will learn to write music using rythm. In the 2^nd lesson the student will place the names of keys under those notes. In the 3^rd lesson the student will transfer this piece onto a staff. In the 4^th lesson the student will play their original composition.

We will take you on a journey. Together we will compose original music. And learn how to read, write and play music on the piano. We believe that anyone who is interested can compose original music. And use this original music to read other music pieces. And the only difference between the beginner and a more advanced or a celebrated artist is practice.

History

Established in 1986.

Dennyse begins by bringing her methods of Music into her elementary classroom. It is the perfect setting since elementary teachers teach all subjects including music. There was always a piano in her house growing up. Dennyse attended the College of Lake County, a community college. And found CLC made the study of music understandable. So Dennyse took Fundamentals of Music and 4 semesters of the Theory of Music. «Theory IV we learned to compose our own music». In her own classroom students were composing 16 bars of music.

In 1990 Dennyse began teaching privately. Dennyse recently called the small business development center out of the College of Lake County. And met with Eddie Soto to write a business plan, build a website. And create the name Why Piano Dennyse.

I’m Dennyse, teacher/​facilitator on the journey. You don’t need me. However, I will facilitate, make this learning easier. You will discover why the piano is so unique in your study of music. Together we will experiment. And find the combination of reading and writing music is very effective for our purposes. Just like when you learned to read and write in your native language. We call it the theory of music. So, from the start, you will compose your own music. And then reading your music will help you read other music.
