Business Owner

William A. Matarese, M.D. is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (¹⁹⁹¹⁄₂₀₀₂) and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Matarese earned his medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in 1983 after his undergraduate education at Columbia University. He completed a general surgery internship at Albert Einstein/Montefiore Medical Center. He has completed his orthopedic surgery residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Center. He is fellowship trained in total joint arthroplasty and limb lengthening at the Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopedic Institute in New York, NY.

Dr. Matarese has published several articles in peer-reviewed publications, including Surgical Rounds for Orthopedics, Journal of Arthroplasty, Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research, and NJOS/NYSSOS.

What can I say? I was bone on bone in my right hip for 2 years. The pain was unbearable and my quality of life was horrible. Dr. Matarese and Patrizia treated me like a king. Dr. M. performed full hip replacement 1 month ago and I feel like a new man. It’s amazing — the pain is gone! GONE! Dr. Matarese literally gave me my life back. He is my hero! Thank you Dr. M., from the bottom of my heart.

Dr. William Matarese is a gifted orthopedic surgeon. My surgery was performed exactly like he said it would with no complications. He spoke to me with respect and gave straight answers. The office of my former primary care provider had not been cooperating with Dr. Matarese’s office and he straightened it out immediately. His staff are average. The wait to see him can occasionally be a little long. But it is tolerable because he is a professional and gets things right.

My visit last week with Dr Matarese was a life changing experience for me.
I’ve had pain in my hip for a very long time, and my previous orthopedic suggested that I need a hip replacement. Since I’m only 46, that’s a course I’m not ready to take, so I needed another opinion.
Dr Matarese looked at my X-ray, and said my hip looked like one of an 80 yr old woman! He suggested there was one last resort before surgery, and that was a cortisone shot directly into the joint, which was performed by Dr Milman at an imaging facility. I was so impressed by this procedure, since it’s a needle seen on X-ray with dye to guide it directly into the joint.
Needless to say, I never realized how much pain I was living with ²⁴⁄₇ until receiving this shot! I feel amazing! Can’t thank Dr Matarese enough for his extended knowledge! THANK YOU!

I have been a patient of Dr. Matarese for over 20 years and he has twice performed major surgeries on me. Both times I could not have been more pleased, not only with the results but how Dr. Matarese treated me, like I was his only patient. I must have drove him crazy with all of my questions and fears and he took the time and patients to answer ever last question. When I left the office he gave me the confidence that everything would be fine. When Dr. Matarese operated on my hip I was so pleased with how well everything went and the care he gave me in the hospital, rehab and my follow up visits.
It is a nice feeling to have an orthopedic you trust and that will always give you his best medical advice.

Had to walk out before my appointment since I couldn’t wait over an hour past my appointment time just to be called in. As I was waiting another patient walked in and stated they had an appointment at the same time as mine. When I asked how long the wait would be I was told «he’s backed up today». It is possible that is due to scheduling multiple people to see one doctor at the same time.

Rude front desk, 1 ½ hour wait times and another 45 minutes after they call you into the room,. And this is with only two patients ahead of us. Meanwhile the other Dr. here seems to be able to get his patients in and out on a timely manner. Dr. Matarese seems to be busy doing ANYTHING and EVERYTHING but seeing his patients. When he finally comes into the room, he doesn’t even acknowledge you, he speaks only to his nurse. DO NOT waste your time coming here unless you’re forced to because of your insurance. In a nutshell, Dr. Matarese is a JOKE!

I agree with Todd on the wait time. I was sitting/waiting in a doctor’s room for 80 minutes and just walked out. I can’t comment on his professionalism. Plenty of other employees walking around but they can’t seem to schedule people with reasonable punctuality.
I walked out… they never called me and probably didn’t even realize. Just charged my credit card and insurance for the visit.
If you are retired or in college (WPU is right here) then by all means wait around and probably get some good service. If you have a job/agenda/anything important going on in life, I would not go here.
