I came here wth my co worker last week for first time. I enjoyed the New York Strip and mashed potatoes very much. My co worker ordered the Block Burger and the chocolate pudding she said it was delicious. The server was very attentive. I will come back again more often for sure.

Overall it was great. The meal was highly flavorful and perfectly cooked. They don’t take reservations but we didn’t wait as long as they quoted us. There was an obnoxiously loud group next to us so that made it a little less enjoyable and with the layout it is difficult to find quiet. Our service was excellent and the food was the perfect temperature. Would definitely go back.

We visited the Block during that weekend of seemingly endless rain. It feels like Cleveland-Heath, except there’s actually draught beer here. Our group of four got a good taste: Drinks: Merlot, Cab, Malbec, and Civil Life Rye Pale Ale(me!) Appetizers: Flash-fried Brussel Sprouts, Potato Skins. Salads: Block Salad, Beet Salad, Pear Salad(me!) Entrees: Amish Chicken, Petit Tenderloin, Rensing’s Farm Pork Chop(me!) Dessert: Are you kidding? Too full! Our experience was a little bit on the expensive side of the pricing scale, but worth it to us. And it took time to make all that good food. But, based on a single experience, I imagine that I’d like anything and everything on the menu. Except broccoli.

My friend and I went for a late dinner. Very nice, music was play as a background so we could actually talk. Our server was very pleasant and fast. We both had the NY strip and were both very pleased. Will return.

I have nothing but great things to say about this restaurant. My husband and I dropped in one Sunday for an early, light dinner and ended up leaving completely stuffed. We only intended to order a drink and grab an appetizer or two, but we ended up with four appetizers because we couldn’t decide. All of them were EXCELLENT. The assorted breads with infused butters were unbelievable. It came fresh and hot with soft pretzel bread, croissant roll, a spicy cornbread of sorts and a bread that looked and tasted like carrot cake. They served it with an apple butter and a chive/onion type butter, and the combinations were absolutely perfect! The meatball dish was much larger than we anticipated. It was packed full of cheddar grits, meatballs and mushrooms. This dish was delicious, though the giant mushrooms grossed my husband out a bit — I loved them! The ale and smoked cheddar dip served with the house made pretzel bread was incredibly rich and tasty — rich enough that you would definitely want to share it with one or two others. The beer braised onions absolutely made this dish. Finally, the garlic herbed fries. There were ridiculously good, and I highly recommend that you ask for a side of the buttermilk ranch to dip them in. I really didn’t think this restaurant could go above and beyond even with their fries, but they did! I can’t even describe it — you’ll have to just try it for yourself! We wanted so badly to get dessert, but we just couldn’t after all of that bread and carb loading. Needless to say, we will be back to do so!

The best burger I ever had in US. I usually get The Block burger with bacon and fried farm egg. The appetizer the Garlic Herb Fries is the best you must try !!! happy hour is very great deal. The owner Mark at Central West End and Brian at Webster Groves Location are super friendly, I always impress how amazing they have been treating to me and my family. LOVELOVELOVE

After hearing good things about this place, finally got the chance to check it out with a friend. I got the special – bacon wrapped meatloaf sans the hoagie bun and fries. My friend got the pulled pork sandwich and fries. Biggest thing we both came away with: SALTYASHELL. Seriously, Block, lay off the salt. I felt so thirsty after. My meatloaf was good, though, very peppery, and wrapped in bacon? Yum. It did have steak sauce on it, which I could have done without. Fries were shoestring, which I am not terribly fond of, and they were garlic herb seasoned, which I also wasn’t too thrilled about. All in all, though, a decent experience. I would go back and try something else.

Solid food. Excellent friendly service. Relaxed, hip atmosphere. I had their special salad(roasted pear with feta and walnuts on a bed of romaine) with grilled salmon on top and a shared side of Mac and cheese. I thought the salad was overdressed and the salmon was over-seasoned. However, the Mac and cheese was perfect and just the way I like it. In case you’re wondering, the m&c at The Block is not béchamel based. Instead, shreds of cheese are simply baked with the pasta(and bacon should you choose). Heavenly spoonfuls of yum. Had I gotten one of their meatier items, I think I would have been much happier with my main dish. I’ll definitely be back to give their burger or their daily special cut of beef a try.

Excellent meal both times I have been here. The wait staff is accommodating for gluten free and friendly. Negatives I do have a problem reading the menu since it is so dimly lit. The service is a little slow to get the beginning drink order, but after that it is very quick. Positives They seated a table for 6 on a Saturday night without a reservation, which is truly remarkable and accommodating. Nothing disappointed the entire crew and will recommend to anyone traveling or for a nicer dinner out for adults.

The Block became my dad and I’s favorite restaurant over this last summer. We probably ate their over thirty times over the course of the season, it really is a special place. Believe me, you really can taste the difference in the freshness of their meats. Some highlight dishes to check out are the hamburger(which is one of the absolute best I’ve ever had in STL); the wine braised pork(so tender you can cut it with a fork and covered in a gravy made from pork drippings and marscapone cheese. AMAZING!); and the pork and dumplings(after trying these, I honestly considered giving up on chicken and dumplings for the rest of my life). I’ve made my way through most of the menu(the appetizers excepting) and honestly there isn’t a single bad thing on the menu. If you’re looking for some extra green in your diet, they’re flash fried brussel sprouts are wonderful. As for desserts, I can only speak for the ice creams, but every one I’ve tried is great(my personal favorite is the bacon candy). Staff is friendly and quick. The décor is simple but warm. This is a pretty good all-purposes restaurant; great for a casual date or a business luncheon. They could do with mixing up their specials a bit more, especially when it comes to the sandwiches.

I had a gift certificate to use up for my birthday and since my husband and I weren’t able to make it out for a date alone, we took my 2 y/o son. I was a little worried since dining out with little ones is always a crapshoot, but the experience was pretty great. There were a few interesting dishes on the menu, but I went with the open faced fried egg sandwich. The sandwich was flavored flawlessly, but the sandwich itself was really messy and hard to eat. I wouldn’t necessarily deduct for that, but I probably wouldn’t go with it again if I also had to deal with a toddler at the table. My husband had the pork and dumplings and it was good, but I wasn’t blown away. My son seemed thrilled with his ham and cheese sandwich and french fries. Shock. We also got an order of the flash fried brussels sprouts which were amazing, but a tad too greasy for my taste. Still awesome, but just be prepared for the amount of oil dripping from them. The absolute gold star of the night, though, was the homemade ice cream. We got the coconut brown sugar which I was skeptical of ordering, but holy cow, did it deliver! I’d order gallons of this stuff if I could!!! It was silky smooth and full of flavor. If we find ourselves in Webster Groves again for dinner, I’d go back.

Had the steak special. Very well seasoned and cooked. Cocktails are spot on with a balance of strength and taste. The Brussels sprouts appetizer is nuked to crisp with a nice crunch, kind of like a jerky. The service was great. Definitely the place to go with someone special. The burgers entrees looked really good and have a nice price tag to them.

The Block is probably our favorite restaurant in St. Louis. We go time and time again and are never disappointed. I’ve heard that sometimes the fish is salty, but I’ve never experienced that. Their dishes are plated like on TV shows… The emulsions, the reductions… it’s heaven! Hard to go wrong here. I wish the draft beer was less expensive, but you’ll have that. If you can make it to happy hour, it’s worth it. Wait for the specials to be read to you before ordering, because usually one item off of this expansive list will win your heart. Locally-sourced meat. Grass-fed beef. Who can go wrong with that? It’s an ethical omnivore’s dream!

The Block is easily one of the best restaurants and bars to visit in Webster. It doesn’t have a particularly big bar area, but they have great cocktails and a great local beer selection which is hard to find in the area of town. They make a mean Manhattan if you were wondering. Not to mention, they have great food, staff, and a laid back atmosphere. For my meal, I went with their burger which was a great idea. Their menu is meat heavy and leans on fancy so I went with something simple. I’d totally get it again but if looks like they have some other staple pieces. This place can get pretty crowed on the weekends so consider a reservation if you’re in a hurry. I had about a 45 minute wait on a Friday but enjoyed a drink at the bar so it wasn’t too bad!

I have been to the CWE location and was a huge fan of my meal there, so I knew I was in for a treat when I got the chance to dine at their Webster location. Although The Block has 2 locations, I like that the menu is different, despite the concept being the same! My meal was once again amazing. I got the pork and dumplings, a rich, hearty and filling meal perfect for a frigid winter evening. For appetizers we got the flatbread special, brussel sprouts and meatballs. All good. Desert included apple crisp, bread pudding and vanilla ice cream made in house. Also fantastic. The atmosphere is relaxed, casual and intimate. The service is spot on, our waitress was so nice, and was very aware of our conversation and did not interrupt! Definitely appreciated. The one downside is a small bar. Since the restaurant does not take reservations, we knew we had to wait, as did others, and it would be nice to have a larger bar area. That said, the bar has a fabulous selection of wine, beer and liquor, you won’t be thirsty while you wait!

So a vegetarian walks into a meat-centric restaurant… and a four star review ensues? Yep, that’s right. I like The Block a lot! Everything I’ve had here has been good. I’ve been a handful of times. The only thing I wish they had was one more vegetarian entrée on the menu for variety. I love the happy hour here. Great drinks and food specials. My favorites are the fries and the soft pretzels with cheese sauce. Both delicious! For lunch or dinner, their salads are great. They always have a special salad and it doesn’t always include meat, but if so, they can modify it. Their salad dressings are great and ingredients really fresh. Half or whole portions are available for all appetites. Their mac n cheese is a good option but it was missing something to make it a little more flavorful. I loved the cheese on top. They have house made desserts, which are amazing! Their homemade ice cream is to die for. Really. Don’t miss it. Service is always good. I’ll be back!

I stopped here for dinner on a Friday night when visiting friends who live nearby. We ate at the bar and enjoyed the happy hour specials. The food was incredible! I loved the interesting combinations of flavors — everything sounded great and tasted even better. The bartender was a really interesting guy too. Great beers on tap as well. This place would fit in perfectly in Chicago, the food so so so good. I’ll definitely hope to visit here again when in town!

The Block — a pleasant atmosphere, great selection of meats, and a great place to be. Dinner time on a Thursday wasn’t as busy, especially when you come in at a fairly early time. The staff were very friendly right from the beginning and they have some outdoor seating as well. I regretfully did not try any of their appetizers but did end up with their Greek salad special for the evening which was loaded with feta cheese and kalamata olives — tasty! Their drinks come in their own special, sort of homemade looking mugs that I was trying to decide whether or not it was metal(but I left without knowing the truth). For my main dish, I had the Double Star Farms Amish chicken — grilled chicken, roasted butternut squash, Yukon gold potatoes, mushrooms, arugula, and local honey balsamic reduction. The chicken was moist and tender and it tasted like it had been brining for a while before they grilled it. The entire dish had a wonderful, even flavor that beckons for another bite every single time! I got really full before I completely finished my chicken and I had a hard time putting my fork down. Needless to say, I had no room to even hear about their desserts. What great food and what wonderful service! I hope to come back soon and try their other offerings.
