Tony the Tailor and Cleaners

I really enjoy working with Tony the Tailor and Cleaners. I just had a holiday white table cloth cleaned there and it was de-​stained perfectly and ready on time (unlike Zoots, which could be unpredictable as to when they might deliver your items back to you). I have also had clothing alterations done and have been very happy with the results. They have helped me extend the life of household items and clothing by mending seams for reasonable prices. For the reviews below that complain of unfair prices, I see that a list can be found on the counter top. I think their prices ARE reasonable as I just had a dining room sized formal tablecloth dry cleaned for $ 14.

I have had tailoring done by Tony for 35 years. I have had the occasion to watch him work and he is amazing at what he does. His work has always been excellent, prices fair, and finished on time, and that’s the truth. Tony worked hard to open his own business about 30 years ago and has worked very hard since then.

I wish i had read the reviews before I went there. We had to get a dressed shortened (no hand hem, just machine hem). Lady on the phone told me $ 18.50 and when we dropped the dress, they marked everything that had to be fixed and gave me a receipt. The receipt had no price on it (seems that’s the norm based on what everyone else is saying below). I asked the lady how much it will cost, and she told me «I don’t know, and Tony JUST left». Tony was the one who measured where the dress had to be taken in, and very conveniently he left. Went to pick the dress and he gave me a bill of $ 60!!! He was rude, snatched the dress from my hands, when I questioned $ 60 and went to his office. Needless to say, I felt humiliated. and it was such a horrible experience.
Seems this is a very common theme with Tony — he is deceptive about $$, takes only cash (so who knows what he pays taxes on), and is just ridiculously rude. Not sure how he is still in business.

If you want to spend more than you need to, Tony is your man.

Beware: I have just had a very unpleasant, surprising experience.
Today when I went to pick up tailored items, I was unhappy to find that Tony lied and overcharged me.
I have been a customer for 4 years and have been generally satisfied.
Last week I requested to have 7 exercise tanks tailored: the 2 inch wide shoulders on each side cut to shorten and stitched. When I left the tops, Tony quoted $ 4.50 for each shirt. The cost to purchase these shirts was $ 16 at Under Armour and I was happy to pay that price for tailoring to have them fit properly. At pick up, the register rang up $ 14 for each shirt. When I asked to speak with Tony about this error, he would not come to the counter to speak with me and sent several workers to confirm that this was the price expected. Not even the courtesy to speak with me — I am there on a weekly basis and on very friendly terms with all workers.
It never occured to me to worry about the practice of this business not listing cost of services on tickets. I had assumed that since it is a small family business with regular customers, such an unpleasant transaction would be unlikely. Now I get it!
Beware. I will choose to take my business elsewhere.

I had the pleasure of using Tony’s cleaning services, in the days before Unilocal.Which meant that this business could treat it’s customers any which way it wanted, without any reputation consequences.
I worked for 2 years in an office opposite Tony’s, and the shop was well known amongst my colleagues for damaging, losing, misplacing clothing with wild abandon — and worst of all — being unbelievably rude to customers. There was a comment in another review about the surly gentleman who manned the counter — don’t if it’s the same person I often dealt with (perhaps Tony himself) — but regardless, I got nothing but the worst manners and treatment in most of my interactions with their staff.
Take your business elsewhere.

I have been going here since it was recommended by a fellow neighbor and it’s been great ever since. I generally go once/​week to stay on top of things. They do great work, all my shirts and pants always come back like new, and are as crisp as can be. Ironically with such a small shop and in the Wellesley area their prices are some of the lowest around. In fact if you do some research they charge the cheapest prices, especially for dress shirts and pants. Don’t let some of the other reviews fool you. The gentleman who usually handles the front is quiet, but a very nice guy.

This place is great. I have yet to have a bad experience here. The staff is always friendly and helpful. They also know how to properly do a military crease on a pair of pants. I would highly recommend this place if you need stuff taken care of!

I’ve brought a few things here to be shortened, with varying levels of success. My jeans have all come out excellent, no problems there. However, last week I brought in a pair of athletic yoga pants and two athletic shirts for hemming, and the results weren’t great. The hems looked nice, but the pants were easily an inch shorter than what we had discussed, and the hem on one of the shirts unraveled within hours of wearing it for the first time. It’s frustrating to have to bring them back to Wellesley to get tailored, so I’ll be looking for a new place closer to my home.

I always get my pants hemmed here (oh the annoyance of being short). This place is bare bones what they need to get the job done. You quickly change in the changing room because the curtains don’t seem quite wide enough to cover the entire doorway. You indicate how much you want your pants hemmed, come back a week later, and pay. Quick, easy, and at a decent price. No complaints here.

It’s true that Tony the Tailor is cheaper than most drycleaners in the area. However, I’ve been bringing my husband’s dress shirts there weekly for six months now, and the guy at the counter never remembers to put «medium starch» even though I’ve asked for it everytime. Even worse, the collar sometimes comes back just as dirty as before the cleaning. Having said that, Tony’s wife is really nice and does great alterations.

This place is really nice and quite friendly, I didn’t meet any surly guys behind any counters, and they do a decent job quickly. I picked this place to do the final cleaning ($ 85) on my wedding dress before the big day and to have some last minute alterations done (have the side seams taken in a bit for $ 80). His cleaner was apparently unexpectedly absent so he called a couple weeks after I dropped it off to tell me he cant clean it but he will just press it instead for half the cost of cleaning (this was unexpected and annoying but not really his fault). As for the alterations, it definitely wasn’t taken in enough and I will need to take it somewhere else to be done again ASAP. I also specifically asked them to take it in at the sides instead of the back which they agreed to do but then took it in at the back instead anyway. The quality of the work is fine and by no means did he «ruin» the dress or anything and had it been any garment other than a wedding gown I’m sure it would have been fine but, in summary, I wouldn’t take a wedding dress there again (not sure what I was thinking in the first place!). So these guys get a solid 3 stars, as an every day tailor and cleaner they are A-​ok!

Tony and his wife are great. The guy behind the counter has never been rude, snippy or irritable toward me — not sure what some folks have experienced. Tony’s wife does great work with alterations and can do them really fast if needed!

I love Tony’s!!! He always does a great job, ignore the guy at the counter, I don’t know why Tony hasn’t fired him. Tony has always done a great job and if something isn’t right, he will fix it right away. I have tried Zoots a couple of times when I had coupons, but they ruined a couple of shirts and miss charged my husbands silk shirts for woman’s blouses. They wouldn’t correct the charges either.

I met the loveliest lady there who attended to me and suggested ways to mend my jeans to make them look like new… and that’s exactly what I got!
I dropped a few pairs of jeans off to be mended, seat replaced and just stitched to save them. They did an excellent job and i’m so excited I don’t have to go all the way into the city for good and affordable service.
I called around and whilst others were quoting prices of $ 30 per pair of pants, Tony’s charged me $ 5 per mending and did an EXCELLENT Job!
They don’t always pick their phone up, but they are open 7am –7pm. So go go go!

Forget about the man behind the counter, he is some mothers son and she loves him.
As far as Tony’s, it really is a good as they get. All but one of the staff is very pleasant and the quality of the work speaks for itself. I have been a customer for years and have never been dissatisfied. A shirt once got mangled in the wash and they paid me retail.
You should always ask what day your work will be done. If you want it earlier just ask.
Now if all the Papa Razzi patrons would stop hogging his parking…

Awful. Tony’s register is manned by a surly gentleman who always looks like he needs a bath. He’s always nasty, and seems put out when he has to retrieve my dry cleaning. Forget about the clothes I’m bringing in to be cleaned — he won’t even help count shirts.
To add insult to injury, Tony’s lied to me about their prices on women’s shirts. I called ahead and asked about laundering shirts when I dropped the clothes off. I was told my shirts could be laundered and the price was the same as men’s shirts. That was not the case — when I picked my clothes up I had to ask about the bill because it seemed wrong (they do not provide an itemized receipt). And yes, my shirts were more expensive than my husband’s. They would not honor what they had told me earlier.
Bad customer service, lying about pricing. Tony the Tailor is a disaster.

Compared to Zoots, which is ridiculously expensive for women’s dry cleaning. Tony is a better value. They don’t take credit cards, so bring cash. Your bill can easily hit $ 80-​$ 100 if you have sweaters/​dresses in the mix. Tony is very helpful if he waits on you, but his younger staff members just stare at you while you sort your items yourself and identify the number of skirts, dresses, etc.
BE WARNED: The sign in the window says same day cleaning if in by 11:00 a.m. but the counter guy always tells me it will be ready on Thursday if he even bothers to speak any words out loud during my visit. You have to ask if it can be ready same-​day, or don’t waste your time coming back until Thursday night no matter when you bring your clothing in.
It’s usually busy, and people seem to be on a first-​name basis with Tony, so I assume they have a lot of repeat business. The store is small, and many people with alterations are usually changing and running around right at the front of the store, which is a little awkward.

anyways, he hems your pants to the original hemming and if you need to rush it– he’ll do so reasonably but you cant be a bitch about it cuz being a bitch is not nice.
the price factor really gets me weak. i paid twice even three times as much for crappy alterations before but not anymore cuz tony is really grreeaaaatt!
