History
Established in 1968.
Since 1968, Ob/Gyn Specialists of the Palm Beaches has been at the forefront of providing quality healthcare to women in our community. Long recognized as the premier Ob/Gyn group in the area, the practice has grown over the years to encompass twenty-six Board-Certified physicians, all of whom were trained at highly regarded university hospital teaching programs. Doctors in the group have included numerous department chiefs of Good Samaritan Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital and Columbia Hospital. Dr. Peter Sherman and Dr. Burigo have served as President of the Florida Obstetrics and Gynecology Society.
In 1986, we brought the first certified nurse-midwife to private practice in West Palm Beach. Many of our patients appreciated the opportunity for a more «high-touch» birth experience. Now, there are seven certified nurse-midwives with the group, along with two certified nurse practitioners who specialize in patient education and one-on-one care.

Melissa Carlson, M.D., FACOG is a board-certified obstetrics and gynecologist in Florida. She has been practicing her specialty for thirteen years and has developed her skills in Laparoscopic Hysterectomy, Laparoscopy, Hysteroscopy, resections of fibroids and ablations. She practices at the Wellington and Boynton Beach West offices of OB/GYN Specialists of the Palm Beaches, P.A.
Dr. Carlson received her medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine and completed her residency at George Washington University Medical Center (GWUMC).
She was the Chief Resident at GWUMC.
The combination of being able to perform surgery, deliver babies and build relationships is why Dr. Carlson loves her profession.

Currently, she is the Chairman of the Board of Governors and is on the Medical Executive Committee, both at Wellington Regional Medical Center.
