Yummy — even better than the Suburpia they are intending to imitate!

When I first moved to Milwaukee, I didn’t know a whole lot about the area. At one point I had a co-worker that decided he would show me the area, and make sure I knew where to eat. This was a good thing, because knowing the good places from the get go meant I wouldn’t have to worry about too many bad experiences! I’d eaten at a few sub shops before, and they were pretty run of the mill. What I found here was a taste that I have still to experience somewhere else. Even through the fog of my memory, I remember it sticking out as one great place to eat. Over time I forgot the location of this fine place. As luck would have it, during some recent construction I was diverted down a side street(annoyed as I may have been) and stumbled upon this fine little West Allis gem! If you’ve had enough of the big sub places, and are looking for something fresh — give Gold Coast Subs a shot. It may not look like much, but they have some pretty tasty things happening here.

Went here with a local friend(I’m from California) based on the good review(s). Very modest in appearance, the menu is fairly small. I ordered the turkey/ham and was a bit surprised when I was informed that they didn’t carry mustard. The sub itself was good, the bread fresh and the toppings balanced. The main drawback is that they put a LOT of oil on their subs. I don’t have anything against oil and vinegar, but there was so much oil that it totally soaked through two paper plates and was all over my hands. As a result the flavor of the sub was a bit more oily than anything. The best part of the meal was the brownie I got for dessert. It was the kind with the cheesecake swirls through it, and it was fantastic. Probably earned this review an extra star, even. In short, if you like a good if fairly standard sub, ask for light oil and you’ll probably be satisfied.
