True 5 star experience here today. My granddaughter and I drove 45 minutes to have dinner here. Granted the traffic was horrific and we couldn’t seem to make the right move anywhere we tried to get around it. So to say the least we were frazzled when we arrived. The restaurant is in a strip mall. Never seen that coming. But nevertheless it was smack in the middle of the mall. We entered a beautiful and not busy restaurant. At first we were greeted by what turned out to be our waiter Gus. He didn’t seem so friendly or happy to have some customers. But it wasn’t long before the ice broke and a real sweetie came out. My granddaughter tends to bring out the best in people. After getting our water and drinks(Coke and Root Beer) I pondered over the menu for several minutes. Gus never rushed us. I have been to the Parthenon in Greektown and St. Clair Shores. So I pretty much know the menu. I was hoping the food was just as good as the other 2 locations. And it was. We started off of course with Saganki. HUGEOPA. Also went ahead and ordered all the family favorites. Beets and Garlic, Artichokes, Greek Salad and Greek Grapeleaves that were awesome. The best I’ve ever had yet. We proceeded to throw down and stuffed our faces with so much food and the best Greek bread I didn’t think I could drive us home in this food coma. Don’t let the negative reviews about service throw you off. Just go and ask for Gus.

I am so happy that Uptown Parthenon is nearby. It is my go-to place for a great Greek dinner in a white linen tablecloth restaurant. If you become a regular, the servers will learn your likes and dislikes. They are prompt, attentive and knowledgeable. I like a bit of variety in my meals, so I always order the combination plate. It is one of the more expensive entrees on the menu, but there is so much food to take home. WiFi? No. CCW friendly.

Overpriced Greek food. They’re such nice people but why so expensive? The bill was pretty crazy for what little food I got. There are other local greek restaurants that are much more affordable… It’s your call whether you want to go there or not.

Bad service! I know they were busy but no one ever came back to refill our drinks or anything else! I don’t know how we got our order in? The food was nothing to write home about & this was the 2nd time eating there in a few weeks! Maybe you will have better luck if you don’t order chicken! We will have better luck eating elsewhere! A

Went for lunch, had a generous Greek Salad with chilled octopus on top, very nice! Also at the table was the lamb sandwich, an order of crispy artichoke hearts and skordalia(the garlic-lemon dip). The hot food was hot and the cold food was cold. Very consistent at the Parthenon. Ted waited on us and took very good care of everything. He was pleasant and accommodating. Will definitely go back for lunch or dinner.

Uptown Parthenon has a huge menu. Traditionally my family gets a couple of Saganaki($ 6.95 each) for the table and we all end up sticking to the basics. Call us creatures of habit, but once you know it’s delicious, it can be hard to switch it up. Basics for us include the Gyro Sandwich or Chicken Gyro($ 12.50) served with French fries or rice and vegetables and the Jimmy salad($ 8.75). We have ventured out and tried a lamb dish or two as well as the Parthenon Fry Pan, their version of Greek Fajitas($ 19.75). Needless to say, everything is delicious. I would also recommend finishing up with the rice pudding($ 3.75). Uptown Parthenon really got the vibe down. The walls are covered in murals, columns line the dining room and large statues tower over you. The staff is friendly, attentive and really does OPA right! Uptown Parthenon also offers an extensive catering menu as well as special event private dining for up 50 people.

I have eaten at uptown for many years and unfortunately the service in the last several years continues to decline as well as the attitude of the staff. The food is the same quality, but the service is very poor. I heard they lost the main manager and boy does it show. If you don’t mind poor service, you will be OK. I just went there yesterday for the last time. I had horrible service e — no refills on coffee or water, couldn’t get waiters attention, other waiter refused to give me more coffee and just pointed to my server and said I wasn’t in his section. I had to get up and tract my server down for the bill. Poor service and poor attitudes from the wait staff. Too bad, I used to love going there.

Good food, but HORRIBLE service. Had an empty water from the time the food came, until we got the check. Our waiter was extremely rude and not once asked how the food was or if we needed anything else. Have never received worse service.

Admittedly, I’m not overly familiar with Greek food, so I can’t speak to the authenticity of this place, but I will say that the food and service were both good. To start with we had the fried eggplant with garlic paste. The eggplant had a nice crisp to it and was cooked well, and the paste was tasty, although the slightly greyish color and texture were slightly offputting. I had no idea the portions were this big or I would have had the three of us split an entrée, but we had the Moussaka(baked eggplant), Pastitcio(baked macaroni), and the spinach pie. Each came with green beans, rice, a lemon potato, peas, and an enormous portion of the aforementioned dishes. Everyone at the table commented on the flavors and richness of the food. I really enjoyed the lemon on the potato and the rich red sauce, but there wasn’t anything to complain about. Our waitress always kept up on our drinks and made sure to check on us at convenient intervals. I’d love to go back and try some of the Loukoumathes(balls with honey, cinnamon, and walnuts)

This was a favorite of mine when I was a little kid and it was nice getting to go back and experience the nostalgia. We were seated quickly as it was a weekday night, although the restaurant was decently busy. Our bread was served(just like I remembered) and water brought out. I decided to order lamb, and the waitress mentioned a way she liked it done(broiled and then finished in the oven) so I decided to go with that. The bread was good, but the entrée was definitely better. My lamb was huge. HUGE. It must have been two pounds of meat and bones. I didn’t even know where to start. Once I figured it out, though, I didn’t even need a knife. It all just fell off of the bone and was absolutely delicious. Slightly crispy outside and inside like butter, sort of like the steak at Peter Luger in NY(but not that good). It was served with a potato, rice, green beans, and another veggie I forgot. It was WAY too much food and I was disappointed I couldn’t take it home and enjoy it the next day. Service was good – I have no complaints. Uptown is exactly how I remember it – great food, good service, good location. I wish I could say I’ll be back, but who knows next time I’ll be in Detroit.

If you are looking for great Greek food and not the typical ‘coney attempt’ at Greek food, this is the place. My favorites are the gyro meat, stuffed grape leaves with lamb and lemon sauce, the stewed peas and Rosa Marina. If you can’t make it to Greek Town, this is the spot for lamb chops and Saganaki. Also, the best rice pudding in town!

Absolutely LOVE this Greek restaurant. We’ve been going here for many years and always leave with a satisfied belly, and plenty of leftovers! The food is authentic and always delicious! Opa!

Nice neighborhood atmosphere. Certainly a place you can go to and know a few people. However, despite the atmosphere, the quality of the food is not what it once was. The salads are good but the meats are not the same. I would still done here but I am careful on ordering certain items.

Pretty darn good. The chicken meatballs are heavenly, the salads are fresh and delicious and the hot appetizer combo is the bees knees. They are so nice and it’s a moderately casual atmosphere. We love to dine in and carry out. It’s NOT a coney. Don’t expect it to be one when you go — the prices are higher and the choices are better.

I am 100% Greek and swear that this food is the best. Great service. Nice little wine list. Good desserts too. Opa!

Had awesome lamb chops again. They are THE standard against which all other lamb chops are measured. Here is one way to order for 2 people so as to be really full and satisfied, and still pay a very reasonable bill. Order grilled lamb chop dinner of 5 chops and add an additional 1 chop. This way each person gets 3 chops and the sides are plenty sufficient to share. Sometimes a waiter will hook you up with a bigger portion of sides, and than you will be stuffed.

Honestly, I had no idea that this place would look so nice on the inside because it is in a strip mall. I was just craving Greek food, so I went in to try it out. I left impressed with the décor and not very impressed with the food. It was very bland and not authentic… to add to this, the waiters didn’t speak Greek. Maybe not a big deal to some, but it got under my skin. I think that Greektown Detroit has great food, but this place does not stack up in terms of food.

I definitely did not feel like I was eating in Greektown, which is fine. The parking is definitely better here, even if the people driving the cars are a lot more frightening. At 1:30 p.m., this place could be mistaken for the Honeytree, or any other geriocentric restaurant in the area. But that actually appeals to me. According to my grandmother, there is a younger crowd at night, but young is always a relative term. The food was a solid 3 stars. I had the veggie trio and part of the Jimmy(?) salad. It was not as good as at New Parthenon(the sister restaurant) in Detroit. Everything tasted oversalted, especially the peas and green beans which came on the side. I mean, VERY salty. The trio tasted ok, but was lacking something(essence de Detroit?). If you are in West Bloomfield visiting your kinfolk, looking for a meal, I think this is an ok place for lunch. But, if you live in the suburbs and are craving Greek food, I recommend driving to Greektown, or taking a train to Chicago.

Ate here last night because I’m staying closer to this one than the Greektown location. Same great food, much nicer décor. Had cold antipasto and it was good. Nothing spectacular but more than adequate. I must complain about the way the stuffed vines leaves are cut in half, lengthwise. It just looks wrong. Greek salad was good as well. All the ingredients were top notch but the sauce they give was some kinda ranch/mayonnaise/whale jism. Not very appealing. A nice olive oil/red wine vinegar combo would have made this much more enjoyable. * I think I’m getting a whale jism tolerance building up. Main dish of keftedes(Greek meatballs) with rice and tomato was deelish. Just like my Mom used to make it but without the force feeding included. Great dish, authentic, delicious. I’m tired so I won’t add anything sarcastic or in my ”code”. Just know that the food is good and the prices are right.

We’ve been to Uptown many times, with the kids and without. For the kids, their chicken tenders have always been good — nothing left by the time we’re done — good sign. For the adults — the Greek entrees are authentic, substantial and while not priced at the bottom of the market, reasonable. Wait staff is uniformly friendly and attentive. Try their Greek Chicken meatballs — and look for the appetizer variety platter — try it as an entrée and see if you can make it out with out a carry-out box. We’ll be back again and again I’m sure.
