Cheung & Chu CPA

I would give negative review if I can. They «used» to be very good and awesome cpa service. Right now, they file extension without notify me, so I had to pay interest on the $$ I owe. They missed place my entire folder and it took them two weeks to look for it. They can’t give me my confirmation for efile because they don’t know if they efiled or not. Unbelievable. very sad.

If I can give negative stars, I would. This place deserves no stars. I had always use chis CPA to file my personal tax except 2014. Several days ago, I received a letter from Franchise Tax Board saying that I didn’t file my state tax for 2012? What? I had the invoice and the receipt from Cheung & Chu CPA from 2012. What’s going on??? I called this place immediately, and of course no one answers the phone. They keep transferring you. Finally Tony handled my case and told me to email him the letter. He told me that as soon as he received my email, he will let me know. I emailed to him in the morning and didn’t get any response until afternoon.
I called him around 3 PM, and guess what? He said he was waiting for the «old» computer to turn on. Really? It takes several hours to turn on a computer? That’s not the worse part. He said after checking the information, he was certain that Cheung & Chu CPA did not file my 2012 tax, both Federal and State. If you didn’t file my tax, why did you bill me? He ensured me that there will be no penalty since there is supposed to be a refund. He said he will send out the paper file and asked me to go there to sign.
I can’t believe that this is happening! How can your charge your client without filing their tax? What kind of service is this? After readying other people’s review, I realized that I was not the only one that got screwed. I will never use this CPA for any future service. Horrible service!

Rude! Called in verifying address and already felt like I was annoying the lady that picked up. After I mentioned I was trying to find the tenant next door where they expanded into, all she had to say was «No, No, Bye.»

In the search for a reliable CPA in this area, my employer requested the services of the Irvine branch of this CPA. Doing so was a major error that cost the company hundreds of dollars that could have better been spent on K-​cup coffee.
Getting in contact with them after handing the company information over was a hassle in the first place. They had not completed the taxes by a specified day we requested months in advance, resulting in them having to file an extension for us. At least that was something they did right. After that, everything went downhill. When the deadline was within a month, we called them to ask if they were done. They transferred us to the Irvine branch, saying that our tax file was there, but no one answered at the Irvine branch. After several tries, we received our taxes, but with a glaring math error that we had to have them correct, which resulted in the same procedure. In desperation, one of our guys drove over to the Irvine office during normal operating hours, but no one was there. It was fortunate that they did not stay for some time as their parking was not free without validation. After quite some time talking with the people in a different branch, we finally managed to get the taxes completed with the math error fixed. It took another 2 weeks to convince them to send us a hard copy.
A year passed, and during the 2014 tax year, it turned out that they had not filed the state taxes. Again, we attempted to contact them, and they transferred us to the Irvine branch again because our taxes were at that location. Our employees decided to give up and had a different CPA file the old taxes for us.
Interestingly, we heard that «Eddie has to check the work». Given that, there was also a painfully obvious error, so that demonstrates the quality of the work completed.
Next time, I will recommend the company to have the rabbits that come out at night do the work.

I would have given this a one star if not for Eddie doing some good work for me for 2 calendar year filings some years ago. However, while Eddie is still a nice, knowledgeable CPA, his practice has descended into disorganization, incompetency, insolent managers, clerks. Eddie has expanded to other locations including China. Means he’s rarely around. Hence, you are in the hands of low level bookkeepers who know little or nothing of IRS or State codes. He and his so-​called staff (a nasty Esther/​office manager) who has been there too long)
Their largely Chinese clientele who are dependent on certain experts to help them navigate US law, evidently take the abuse, long delays, no answer of calls, emails, lost paperwork, and worse.
Americans and knowledgeable Chinese, stay away.

I had done my income tax here for the last few years. They were prompt and done within 1 – 2 weeks. But after this year I would not recommend this place. I took my income tax in the first week of March. I had a few W-​2 and a couple 1099, sold a house but other then that it was a easy tax preparation that shouldn’t take more then 1 hour.
In mid March they called and asked if I wanted to claim anything for moving. I said I moved 10 miles and my moving expense was about $ 100. They said that it didn’t qualify. I said okay then don’t worry about it.
Late March, I called to get a status not hearing anything back for 2 weeks, they said they were missing information about how much I wanted to claim on my move. I was irritated and I told them you asked me that same question 2 weeks ago and I said $ 100 but you said it didn’t qualify and I said no problem.
My taxes at this point should have been done. I am very patient but now I was irritated and wondering how many people was handling my simple tax file.
On April 3^rd, they said it was done but needed to be reviewed by the Eric the CPA that owns the place. I was like okay and told them I can only come on a weekend to review and pick up my tax.
On April 13, I was in the area and told them that I would be coming over to pick up my taxes. They said that my taxes were not reviewed yet and I told them that Monday was the deadline, my taxes are easy, and I turned my taxes over a month ago. Why in the world would they not be done. They said that they would file an extension on my taxes. Why would you need to file an extension when it was turned in over a month ago and it was done almost 2 weeks and waiting for a quick review???
My wife and I was pissed and told them off (without cuss words). We told them that if they didn’t have time, or don’t know how to file my taxes, then just say so. Do not hold off until 2 days before the tax is due and say that an extension is needed. They didn’t know how to answer and on the last weekend before taxes are due the CPA wasn’t expected to work through the weekend cause he needed his day off.
So I told them not file my taxes. I would take it somewhere else. They said that it was done and all was needed was a review. I told them that is what you told me almost 2 weeks ago. Silence from the other side.
I hung up on them and took my taxes to ZD Consulting in City of Industry. Heidi made time on a Sunday morning and came in from the San Gabriel area to do my taxes, which took 15 minutes to talk to her, and 1 hour for her to complete it. Now that is great service.
If Cheng and Chu CPA can’t do my simple 1 hour tax, beware of letting them handle your more complicated taxes or your business accounting.

maybe because is the tax season, everyone is so busy and stressed, which is understandable, but you can’t just blame your client for what they didn’t bring, it’s your job to confirm with them. Some guy worked there who is not a CPA at all but mean to the client by saying «this person has problem, so bitchy.» in front of the client.

Although first impression when I walked into their office wasn’t exactly welcoming, I assumed that it was because people working there are all very busy.
When it was my turn to file tax, the service I received was professional and friendly. I would go back there for my accounting needs in the future.

DO NOT go here! The workers are rude and are not helpful at all. The young lady that is the manager of the place is horrible. Attitude needs a lot of improvement. If you ask questions they make it seem like you are stupid and bothering them. Worst place ever!
