I’ve been coming here with my family for many years. Service is awesome, environment is causal, and food is average(good enough to satisfy my sushi craving). We usually order the chicken and beef teriyaki combos with sashimi, the Rainbow Roll, and the green tea ice cream. I highly recommend their green tea ice cream… soo good! Also, as a side note for people who aren’t cucumber fans, their California Rolls do not come with them… only imitation crab and avocados.

My family has been coming here for twenty years so this place is near and dear to my heart. There is nothing unique about the food but I like it very much. It’s a step up from a fast food teriyaki restaurant. The gyoza are great and the dipping sauce compliments them well. Excellent service, very attentive, good food and reasonable prices. I see no reason why they should not remain successful.

I have been coming to Sakura of Tokyo for years. The quality of the food is excellent and even though the restaurant is a little on the dark side, the service is excellent, the servers are personable and the food is flavorful and plentiful. Excellent pricing for the quality and presentation.

I use to love this place! Not sure if management changed — but, the quality is terrible!!! The sushi is not fresh — looks like it’s stored in the fridge! This is definitely the worst sushi I have tasted.

Great ambiance. Friendly staff and price is astonishingly low for an established Japanese restaurant… been coming to this place the last 15 years. Always look forward to coming here with my family, friends, guests — or just by myself… Drop by one day and you’ll know what I mean…

Food is ok, ca rolls are the best here because they’re big but the rest of the stuff is mediocre. Doesn’t taste the freshest but the service is great and it’s local

Sakura has been my family’s favorite since the 1960’s. If you are missing Tokyo Lobby San Gabriel and Hacienda Heights this restaurant is equal especially their teriyaki sauce and miso soup. Price is great!

Very nice people, love Mimis, but everyone here is so nice. As far as this establishment I think they deserve a overhaulin. Keep all the same stuff in it, just need to make it look fabulous I mean come on it’s been here years! The customer service is awesome have a lot of variety on the menu!

What a quaint and charming sushi spot in West Covina! My boyfriend and I opted to try this place out as we were tired of AYCE sushi places and wanted something a little more quiet and intimate. This place is honestly one of the best sushi spots I’ve been to. The sashimi is very fresh and melts in your mouth. The fish is also nice and cold and that just adds to the other pleasant sensations that take place in your mouth. We had also ordered a hand roll and a rainbow roll try it out and the rice ratio is so minimal it’s amazing. The rainbow roll is packed with the crab meat with nice slices of various fish on top and the hand roll was packed with spicy tuna! The service here is beyond spectacular. The people who work here are delightfully sweet and attentive and it makes your dining experience even better. Overall I would recommended this place to anyone who wants to have high quality sushi with impeccable service.

High quality Japanese food friendly service. The staff is very personable and the food is very good from the soups to the combination plates. Katsu’s are very good as is the Tempura. The combination plates come with soup. The sushi and sashimi are very good. If you are hungry for traditional Japanese food then you won’t be sorry medium prices and excellent food.

The service is always good and the help are very friendly. The food is very good and the teppanyaki is to die for. There is no other Japanese restaurant that has a teppanyaki with such a unique sauce. The sauce for their teppanyaki is slighty spicy and sweet. I always have to eat at Sakura of Tokyo for their teppanyaki. I highly recommend this entre for anyone who want to have bean sprouts and mushrooms and onions along with their choice of meats for their lunch.

YUCK! I have never had such horrible«Japanese food». I ordered the chicken teriyaki, tempura and California roll dinner combo. It came with rice salad and soup. The soup tasted like water with salt. The salad was the best thing I ate out of the whole meal. The chicken teriyaki was just horrid. It tasted like they cooked it in the microwave, tasted gamey. I had one bite and did not eat the rest. Tempura was soggy and the shrimp was pretty much non existent in all the batter. Forget the vegetable tempura, tasted so old. The California roll was nasty too. Soggy rice. Service was okay. The sad thing is I used to come here often in high school and the food was so good. I haven’t been to a restaurant where everything was disgusting. What happened to this place? I do not understand why people like the food here. Not coming back again. Wasted my money here.

Used to go to this place all the time before I moved to Upland. When I was in high school it was amazing and we used to hold banquets there. I must say I had it on 7÷24÷15 and I was not impressed. I ordered take out on a Friday and the place was dead! I mean I only saw 2 tables and it was only 7:45 — 8:00PM. I ordered gyoza, california rolls and shrimp tempura rolls for my little brother and I. The gyoza was good and the CA rolls were alright. The rice was mushy and unappealing and my shrimp tempura weren’t even crunchy. Must say I am disappointed in this place and will definitely not go back no matter how close it is to my parent’s house.

The food was okay. My girlfriend got the number 4(chicken and beef) and her beef was burnt. The chicken was nothing more than crappy chicken in a gooey brown sauce. I had the number 23 and my California rolls were soggy and had little flavor. The tampura was missing something, maybe it was the lack of shrimp in it. Also the mochi isn’t home made or decent for the price they offer it at. Did I order it? No but I did see a waitress run to the back with a box of mochi that you can buy at Vons down the street for 4⁄5 bucks and get 6 pieces instead of getting 2 pieces for 3 bucks. When I went to pay, I paid with my card knew I was gonna leave a tip on the table in cash. Well, the lady who rang me up, called me back to the desk to ask if I was going to be leaving a tip. umm RUDE! I’m usually not stingy on my tips but because she had the audacity to basically ask for one, she only got a couple dollars, a significant amount less then if she hadn’t asked. Overall, I doubt I’ll be coming back. I read mixed reviews and had to see for myself and I see what the reviews meant.

Been coming here with the family for over 10 years and nothing really has changed here. I still order the same thing and I love it each time. Since its been so long, I feel like they should update/renovate the place a bit. Their menus are sticky, the carpet looks dirty, and some other small things. Yohan is a waiter that my family and I know and he always recognizes us and gives a good conversation with us. This last time he noticed that the regular family party of 6 has went down to a small party of 3 and noticed my siblings were gone. Unfortunately they have their own lives now. Anyway, I always order combo 12 or 14. The one with 12 California rolls and 2 rows of meat. Each time I order my order, I request for my rolls to be deep friend which really compliments the taste. Then I get one row of chicken and one row of beef for the meats. The order comes with miso soup. I think you also have to request a small bowl of rice in the side for the meat. The order is also good enough for 2 people as well and the price of meal is a little too pricey for someone that expects at $ 10 meal. My mom always orders something that’s soup related. Idk what she ordered specifically but it’s udon. And from my understanding, seems like she likes ordering it a lot, it does taste good and the fat udon noodles are soft and tender to the taste. As I said, this place is on the pricey side of places, for the little party of 3, we ended up paying $ 50ish for us.

I had never been here before and had not read the reviews before going here. The first thing I noticed about this place as I waked into the building was the«B» rating. But it didn’t stop me from eating there as I figured that whatever caused the rating had been or was in the process of being corrected. The Good: The server was funny, and casual. The green tea, rice and miso soup were great! The BAD& the UGLY! I ordered a small sashimi plate but I couldn’t even eat half of it. The first thing I noticed upon receiving my plate was how dry and discolored the ginger appeared. However, my tuna and salmon sashimi were brightly colored and looked delicious. But then I kept getting bones in my salmon. Also, the salmon and tuna were gummy, and had a fishy/swampy smell. I thought it was my imagination as I was in fact eating fish, so I tried putting lots of soy sauce, wasabi, and mixing it with rice. Yet the swamp taste and smell kept emerging. I gave up after two bite and went for the shrimp sashimi instead. The shrimp tasted worst than the pre-made sushi boxes from Walmart. It smelled old and tasted worst. After that I didn’t even want to give my egg(tamago) a try. I gave up altogether. The waitress asked if I wanted to take the rest home, but I didn’t want the smell lingering in my car so I declined. With certainty I can say I will NEVER be eating at this place again!

I used to go to Sakura back when I was still in high school, this was my first taste of tempura, and my favorite place for teriyaki. Over the years I’ve moved states, come back to Cali, and lived so far away that getting to Sakura is a bit more of a task than what it used to be. but we came back. The good: Food: The tempura is still deliciously crunchy, the extra flat batter on the shrimp, and the sweet tempura sauce that pairs perfectly(I was actually surprised no one does their tempura sauce like Sakura, its usually salty. but Tempura has the perfect sweet flavor). Their California rolls are perfect and soft(in my opinion) – I know some say its too squishy. but to me. its heaven! They do not put too much rice, and it just the chopped imitation crab paired with avocado. they put plenty of sesame seeds on the outside which makes them perfect. They also make their own sort of thousand island salad dressing, still the same that I remember it. I don’t normally like salad, but I still devour the one they provide here. Service: From what I can tell it is the same staff as before, the faces seemed familiar and our waitress was very very sweet. The food came out quickly and piping hot. The drinks were refilled before they could be completely empty… great staff! The bad: I used to love their teriyaki sauce, I would rave about it as the most scrumptious teriyaki sauce that anyone had ever eaten. It used to be the perfectly sweet, slightly salted, thick like gravy-sauce. I don’t know what they did. After dinner last night me and my sister discussed it on the way home. it was«ok» but had a funky aftertaste. Chemical-like? I’m not quite sure, it was just. off. And the beef tasted a bit bloody, even though it was thin and cooked through. I thought my taste buds had changed, but my sister confirmed that it wasn’t just me. Overall: I still love this place. I love the staff, the décor hasn’t changed much from what we remember. I wonder if the koi in the front aquarium are still the ones from those many many years ago! My sister and I decided. next time, just order tempura and California roll, we don’t have to deal with the teriyaki. That was good enough to say we’d be back.
