I think that Uncle Willie’s BBQ really relies on people in Connecticut just not knowing what good BBQ actually is. Eating here is akin to having gas station California rolls with imitation crab and believing your having real sushi. I have had the pork, brisket, chicken, and corn bread on various occasions. There is nothing offensive about the food per se, but neither does it have redeeming qualities. I lump all the meats together because they are effectively the same for all intents and purposes. They are dry, overly sweet, and lack any real flavor. They are of about the same quality I would expect if McDonalds or Burger King started on BBQ. The corn bread is also extremely sweet and otherwise very blah. The macaroni and cheese, which people here inexplicably seem to love, is bland at best. It is exactly like a stickier version of frozen Stouffer’s. I implore anyone who has not had the opportunity to try actual decent BBQ to make the trek up to Massachusetts and try BTs Smokehouse. I can absolutely promise you, you’ll never accept a poor imitation knock off like Uncle Willies again.

From the moment you walk in, you are swept away by the delicious aroma of bbq! The chicken and pork was soft and tender and the 50⁄50 bbq blend was the right amount of sweet and heat. The sweet potato and apples tasted like candy and the collards were cooked just right. This is our first time here and we will be back often! Thanks for bringing delicious bbq close to home!

Pretty damn good! Baked beans were great, meat was tender and sauce was good. Restaurant was decorated in a fun way. Food came out fast. Really easy to get to, right off the highway. Would return if I were in the area.

This place SUCKS! Ordered a pulled pork sandwich and it taste like the pork spent a week in the refrigerator before it was reheated up by a microwave. Stopped in again to give it another try and got the burnt end sandwich ewwwwwww that was gross too.

This is absolutely nothing to write home about. The portions were small, but the prices were not. However, the brisket was competently prepared. Because there were only two people, eating in the restaurant, when I arrived, I was surprised by how long it took them to get the food out to me. The restaurant was out of mashed potatoes?!? The barbecue sauce was decent. On the plus side, even if slow, the wait staff was truly friendly.

This review is strictly and only for the Mac n cheese and onion rings. Hands down my favorite store bought Mac n cheese! Creamy, soft and filling! I can never finish the whole thing in one sitting! Their beer-battered rings are also outstanding! As for their meat and bbq I’m not into it enough to try it. But I’ll keep coming back for their Mac n cheese and rings!

Awesome food, good portions, amazingly friendly staff and very accommodating for a baby. We were skeptical when first walking in as it looked like a fast food joint, but the food was amazing quality, rivaling fancier places we’ve been to for BBQ. For of us split this four-person family meal and it was very filling. Supposedly, it can feed two«hogs», but I cannot fathom it. I would suggest five for the four person meal. The house iced tea and lemonade were good, definitely worth a try.

Hello my name is Craig and I’m addicted to BBQ. Specifically Uncle Willys in Seymour, CT. Their Burnt Ends, Ribs, Fried Chicken, and Hush Puppies are my favorites. I have been down to the dead ends of dirt roads in NC, award winning places in Texas, etc etc. This place ranks pretty high for me overall. Do yourself a favor, try something from their extensive menu ASAP. You won’t regret it. My recommendation is the Burnt Ends sandwich with their 50⁄50 sauce(half hot & half sweet). Can’t go wrong!

Came here today around 1pm and it was so nice from the moment we walked in. The décor is so cool and«old school» country BBQ. I can’t understand negative reviews. Then again I have never eaten BBQ in Texas so I can’t compare. The lady at the counter was so cool and down to earth, and the food –wow! The 50⁄50 sauce on smoked chicken– tender and flavorful!

Stopped by here on my way down 95 to NYC. Very good spot for BBQ! Right off the highway, easy to get back on after eating. Staff was friendly and nothing was too overpriced. I had the two meats with sweet sauce– choose brisket and pulled pork. For my sides the mac and cheese and sweet potato. Every dish comes with cornbread. The meat was tender, had lots of flavor and the mac and cheese was filling. Originally thought I would leave hungry — I was mistaken! Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for some BBQ a quick ride off of i95! Boom!

Great BBQ for CT! I had sausage, pork, Baked Beans and potato salad. what was great about this place? They had a true North Carolina Sauce — one of our styles at least — a Lexington Style sauce. Everything was good, the Potato Salad was just your run the mill mustard style good but nothing to get excited about. The bean were very good. The meat, stood on it’s own. That is why I went and if I make it back to this area I’ll certainly try to visit again. I seek BBQ and I found good BBQ in CT! Well done… Oh yeah… all good barbecue joins should have banana pudding and they had it…

With Uncle Willie’s you can’t go wrong. This folks, is down home bbq. I am in love with their collard greens, their smoked ends, half a chicken, mac n cheese, beans, and sweet tea. I love it all. One day I stumbled upon a review for Uncle Willie’s and knowing my hubby loves bbq, I had to surprise him and bring him here. He immediately declared this place the best down home bbq joint for him in CT. If you knew him, you’d know that outta say something. Other than the amazing food, the atmosphere is very cool. The downstairs offers sales of homemade pies, food, hot sauce for sale, t shirts, and some seating which includes bar style seating and tables. I just recently realized that it is BYOB but they have a limit. I think it might be 2 beers or something like that. But that’s awesome! Additional seating is located upstairs, and outside when the weather is nice at picnic tables. Last and finally, they do cater!!! They bring a pink pig lookin grill to cook pig or bbq on. Now to end this post, you must try this place is you’re a great down home bbq lover and trying to find a great bbq place in CT. I promise you won’t regret it. Prices are of par or cheaper than market price for bbq meat. The atmosphere is laid back. You’re gonna love it.

We had a great time, food and service was excellent. We had the shrimp and grits, chicken & ribs and barbecue sampler. Went there today to celebrate my birthday and I left stuffed, not disappointed. If I had to make a change it would be to change the décor a bit because it looks the same as it did when the hot dog business was there, as another Unilocaler pointed out, the décor can use some personality. I find that I got a good bang for the buck, way more food than Texas Roadhouse, we left with enough food for dinner. I plan to return.

After reading some of the reviews of my fellow Unilocalers, I decided to stop by earlier this week to try some of the food at Uncle Willies. I was pleasantly surprised. The staff were very friendly and very helpful. It is clear that they care about their customers. The young lady behind the counter answered all of my questions and made some great recommendations. I decided I wanted to order the brisket. It was absolutely delicious. I ordered mine with a sweet BBQ sauce on it, and I also asked them to keep the fat on it. It was tender and oh so very flavorful. They also have a great variety of snacks and beverages. Although the restaurant looks very small, they have an upstairs area for additional dining, so they can accommodate a decent amount of people. There is no question in my mind that I will go back there. I totally recommend anyone looking for good BBQ to stop in and visit them. Oh, and if you don’t know what you want, they will help you pick out something great!

The best thing I have to say is that the beans were good and the sweet potato fries were hand cut. My husband ordered the fried chicken, took one bite and just threw the rest away(but he did eat the beans). My burnt ends were on the dry side(which was not fixed by them drowning them in sauce). I have tasted Memphis, Carolina and Texas BBQ first hand, and this place does not compare. I was even more disappointed as the reviews were so positive. So, in the future, I will be checking the reviews of multiple people(and see if they just gave everyone five stars), and look to see if any Unilocal elites have gone there before taking a chance on an unknown«joint» like this. As I have said, if you have had REALBBQ, you will be extra disappointed if you eat here. Consider yourself warned.

Great Kansas City style pork ribs. What the place lacks in decore they make up in taste and personality, just what you want from a local BBQ joint.

I expected the pulled pork to be much better considering that«BBQ» is part of the establishment’s name. I also ordered a side of Sister’s Mac and Cheese. Let’s just say Sister needs to stay out of the kitchen. There was more butter and milk than cheese, which made for watery Mac and cheese. In the end, I threw most of it away. There’s even a sign that I noticed after I paid, which stated you could not return food or ask for refunds. The fact that they have such a sign is a warning in itself. Great concept but needs improvement.
