Greatest tutor i’ve had. Will be sure to go again if I ever have any issues with my math work again. I say if i ever because it’s highly unlikely that after such great tutoring I would ever do bad again. 3 whole years of math were taught to me in just 3 weeks time. Dont think anyone else could do that.

I hired Derrick to help prepare my child for the ISEE test. He slowly and methodically went through the book with my daughter.
They went over problems. His teaching style is to help her figure it out and follow her logic (which was sometimes a crazy route to the answer). He would say «you could also look at this…» to alert her of alternative ways to find an answer. He does assign homework and things to memorize. He’s not demanding, it’s your choice to listen and follow. My child’s success was at stake so we did as we were told.
She was very comfortable and saw each lesson as a path to new math discoveries. Derrick made it interesting and she always left empowered.
Her parting comment «wow, time really goes by quickly»…
who says that after an hour of math?!
Sign of a good teacher.

Derrick was terrific for my 16-​year-​old who goes to ECRH. My son was at times stymied at school and the tutoring was a Godsend. Worked out great!

If at all possible I’d give him a minus one.
My daughter went to him for several weeks. Often twice a week. She was doing well with him. She sat with him and worked out her math problems. If she didn’t understand the teachers lectures, the tutor went over the lesson.
Until one day she brought the tutor her take home math quiz. Again they sat for an hour and each worked the problems independently… So it was supposed to be…
Three weeks later the test came back. It was a C!
Immediately I notified the tutor. He sat across from us (entire family) and started to do the first problem (which on the test was wrong), to assure us that he knew high school algebra (I guess). I explained my concerns. How does she get a low grade when we PAY YOU TO OVERSEE ERRORS! SHE TOOK THIS TEST IN YOUR PRESENCE! How could you not correct her errors???
To this he responded. Did she double check her work? (I asked,)after she worked with you? Why would she? His response is what SEALED THE DEAL! ARE YOU SURE I DID THIS???
Besides the fact that my daughter is 14 and goes nowhere alone. Besides the fact that I sit with her every evening to assure all of her assignments are complete. Beside the fact that I or my husband take her to Derricks house, and wait there for her, as he is a grown man being left alone with a Kid!
Besides the fact that for several weeks we had been coming to his place for tutoring!!!
NOW WE PLAN THIS ELABORATE RUSE!!! AFTER SPENDING SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS. NOW WE STRIKE!!!
Needless to say both my husband and myself were livid. My husband asked at least to be credited for the hour as a sign of good faith. (He said No). I on the other hand felt dejected and disappointed, for my daughter. Here was a life lesson for her. Yet this grown man took the cowards wAy out. Instead of owning his mistake! He blamed a 14 year old girl. He essentially accused us all if fabricating!
TELLING LIES!!! SAYING HE DIDNT HELP HER TAKE THIS TEST !! SHE DID NOT SO MUCH AS PUT HER NAME ON THE TEST UNTIL SHE SAT WITH HIM!
IVE NEVER SEEN A GROWN UP FAULT A CHILD AS QUICKLY AS THIS GUY. If you are considering this tutor think again. I will tell all of the parents to be caution!!! Be aware!!! He does not own his mistakes. What an awful awful man. I will certain spread the experience we had with every parent who will listen!!!
