Anawalt Lumber

Staff is always helpful. Great selection. It isn’t always my first choice as it is pricy, but when in a pinch they always have what I need or will special order it and provide great proactive follow up.

Call the store for a coworker of mine they put me on hold for 10 minutes I had to call back and the guy talk to you refuse to let me talk to your manager I know the store’s not that busy because I go in there often we need to have better customer service bottom line and they don’t cut plumbing pipe they are not a full-​service hardware store

Anawalt is the more expensive version of Home Depot. That’s ok! I’m just sayin’… For my clothing store I needed to buy a big piece of thin wood and some tape. Because I’m walking distance from Anawalt it was so convenient for me. The store isn’t so big like Home Depot so it doesn’t overwhelm you. They had so many options for me to choose from regarding wood. I got just what I needed for a great price. They don’t only have wood and tools but also plants and succulents! Everyone there is helpful and knows exactly what you’re looking for. For last minute chores you can count on Anawalt!

I live in West Hollywood, so I basically have a choice between Koontz and Anawalt if I want to walk to the hardware store. I only ever choose Koontz when I know they carry some specialty item that I can only get there. Otherwise, it’s Anawalt all the way.
Here’s an example: a few months ago I needed some plaster. I was buying it in the 5 lb. tubs. I got the first two tubs at Anawalt for just about eight bucks. Then, a week or so later, I needed something from Koontz, and while I was there, I just checked on the price of plaster: it was at least a dollar more per tub. That pretty much sums it up: at Anawalt, while you will pay more than at Home Depot and may not have the selection of Koontz, you will save at least a dollar per tub of plaster (which is a metaphor for everything else they have there and how much it costs). The exact same brand, 10−15% less. They don’t carry K&S specialty brass rods and bars, and their selection of dresser drawer pulls doesn’t include the crystal glass variety, but hey, if you need the basics, they have it!

So this is who Anawalt lumber hires as a manager (ERICA BLOOM) to deal with the customers and apparently delivery drivers. This is over a bag of Cheetos, and peppercini. The restaurant made her order and the driver simply brings it to her. This anawalt lumber is located in west Hollywood in the heart of the LGBT community. She belittles a driver, his/​her income and livelihood because the restaurant didn’t have HOT CHEETOS. if she’s blatantly calling food service people F**king idiots, just imagine what she’s calling other customers who upset her. this is unacceptable on ANY stretch of the imagination. Apparently being a manager at Anawalt lumber entitles you to talk to people this way. Making mistakes on a 1 $ chips makes you a PRISSY BITCH. good grief!!!

I was in need of some succulents after moving into my new apartment so I stopped by and took a look at their selection. I was greeted by their manager Basil who is so incredibly nice and knowledgable. He took the time to go over the various succulents and how to maintain them. He also helped me pick out some herbs that best suite my lifestyle! Their staff is so incredibly nice, I love stopping by this location!

I bought a couple of gardenias over the weekend, brought them home, planted them and then 2 days later noticed when i picked a flower they are infested with tiny black bugs. I called Anawalt about it and was given 2 options, either come buy the bug spray needed to treat them or dig up my newly planted and mulched garden and return them. Digging up my garden isn’t really an option for me at this point unless i want to buy new bags of bark to replace all the bark which would then be covered in dirt, so i’m now stuck with purchasing the treatment. They are refusing to simply compensate me the 8 dollars for the bug spray. I shop here often and have had nothing but excellent service but i will no longer buy plants here, very disappointed.

We are regulars to the West Hollywood Robertson location. Employee Ray is ALWAYS very accommodating. His service is great each time and we have been meaning to get this review out on him because he is so worth it. From the moment we had our first experience, Ray has made sure to keep us satisfied with our project needs and service. He is thorough from start to finish and really is dedicated to the customer. It is not often anymore that you see this type of above and beyond workmanship in retail especially where those are not paid well enough for their skill set and customer return impact. We love Ray and his generosity and genuine care for our experience. Go to Ray if you want your job done right and needs met.

Great neighborhood hardware store. Prices are a bit higher than Home Depot, but it’s a small store and everyone who works there is really nice so it’s worth it. Plus I don’t have to trek all the way across town.

Eh, I just don’t know about Anawalt. On the one hand, they have a good amount of just «stuff» for the home… Need a weird little faucet thingie, they have it. Need a hinge or something hinge like, yup, they have it and can show you others. Have no clue what part you are supposed to buy, and your husband is already drunk at home? Yeah, they can try to help with figuring whatever that is too.
The garden section is pretty o.k. They have a few of this and a little of that here and there. lol! But really, that is how it is. They won’t be guaranteed to have the common annuals that you want to add to the section by your driveway because someone else just bought the one flat they had, but they may have something else. And anyway, isn’t your gardener supposed to be able to take care of that???
The misery of Anawalt is thus:
1. The parking is suck. You have to make sure you are going south on Robertson or sorry, no parking for you, unless you want to risk a ticket crossing the double yellow lines. Weho cops are active folks, and Weho drivers are fast, so not my favorite illegal turn to make.
2. The checkout is an ordeal if there is more than one person ahead of you. Even if there is only one person, or heck, YOU are that one person, it may still be a long and arduous process.
3. The ordering and pick up of building materials is no fun. Not often something to worry about, but oh, your handyman forgot one bag of concrete and to save time and get the job done, you need to go to pick up a simple bag of concrete??? Hahaha, you never knew there was such an annoyance as Anawalt building supplies!!! It just takes long, you have to walk back and forth, there may be people asking a million questions, and then you have to wait in the sun, frying your beautiful skin, and then you have to ask a million questions to get the right thing, instead of pointing at a picture mutely like at OSH or Home Depot…
4. Prices are at least 20−50% higher than other places…
So there you have it… my impressions of Anawalt! I am happy they exist, but they aren’t perfect, that’s for sure! ;)

Good selection and good service. Much more convenient than Home Depot.
A little more expensive than Home Depot, but worth it when considering time and gas to go to Home Depot.

I love this place. I went to buy materials to build an elevated planter box, which required stuff from four different departments, and every person I talked to was friendly, helpful and knowledgable. You’re lucky at Home Depot to get any one of those traits, no less all three.
I went back because I was having trouble drilling through the wood with my cordless drill, and I figured I’d buy a more powerful corded one. The person I talked to listened to my story, and told me that I probably just had the wrong settings on my drill, and told me how to change it so that my drill (which I had bought elsewhere, and they didn’t even carry) so that it would work. Whenever someone talks me OUT of a sale for themselves, they get huge kudos in my book. That he knew what the problem was, and told me how to fix it rather than making money on me… that’s a five star store.

LIKE A HIDDEN GEM — If you can find it tucked in on Robertson Blvd, they have plenty of parking, and despite its strange spread out layout, it carries almost EVERYTHING that a full service Hardware Store does (a local hardware store — it’s no Home Depo)
Ask the staff, they can find and direct you to almost anything you can imagine you would need in a hardware store.
Never a line to pay.
Also has a Lumbar section and a small plant nursery.
The prices are a little less the the famous KOONTZ HARDWARE around the corner, but it is just as good for ‘hardware’ … No fun/​fancy kitchen/​house accessories that Koonts has.
Great for a QUICK RUN TO THE HARDWARE STORE … in the middle of the City.

If you get overwhelmed at Home Depot and you get ignored everywhere else, step right up to the West Hollywood Anawalt.
It’s the perfect size for your needs. You get that mom and pop hardware store feeling the second you step inside.
Plus, Basil, the manager there, is basically MacGyver. He was extremely helpful when I had a mini-​video camera emergency. I was about to head out of town to shoot a documentary project, but I had a few important screws missing (not in my head, on the camera!) from this Canon C300 video camera. I had gone to Samy’s and they didn’t have these really specific screws for the camera. They are screws that you have to special order from Canon. But they told me to try Anawalt, just in case.
So I showed Basil this mic mount that needed these special Canon screws, but he improvised a screw and washer combo that held the mic mount in place. Tell me that that isn’t amazing customer service! With his help, I was able to use my camera without having to gaffe tape the mic to the camera and look incredibly unprofessional.
So if you have regular hardware needs, this is your place. If you are in a special bind, this is still your place. I highly recommend this store with zero reservations!

Anawalt Lumber was recommended to us by the general contractor. We needed to pick up some wire mold to hide wires on a white wall. I called them up and they told me there were several options available. They were conveniently located in West Hollywood and even have parking!
I totally dig small, family owned businesses. They’re the ones that give you the best service. They’re also not super packed like the Home Depot on Sunset Blvd. I would prefer Anawalt over them any day.

This Anawalt location is the best! The customer service is fabulous!
I needed something cut for my AC Unit and I went to two other hardware stores and no-​one would do it. I called Anawalt and spoke to Gabriel. He is smart and helpful. Took care of me problem in no time. I am now a loyal customer. Thank you Anawalt!

**THE BEST HARDWARE STORE I’VE BEEN TO**
Since my move to LA, I’ve been to 4 hardware stores (which is a personal girly record). This was my FAVE.

We purchased boxes of nails for home improvement projects.
We tried to get a peg board here, but they only had large boards at the time. We would need to call them and check-​in for scraps (leftovers) for a cheaper alternative.
RECOMMEND in the WeHo Hood.

I love Anawalt Lumber — its the only place that I get my wood cut to exact specifications so I love Ray — rather than using the box stores since they know what they are doing. Unlike the box stores which take FOREVER to cut your wood and mostly argue if they have to cut it more than once. Not Anawalt Lumber — they will please you to no end :) Of course, you have to remember that there is a ending time to stop all cutting of lumber since they have to clean the cutting area before it closes.
And the General Store Manager Basil really knows his stuff about stains and taught me all about Zar Stains which will paint on plastic, metal, glass and of course wood; unbelievable stuff. In addition, he has a broad range of knowledge in all areas which helps in my business.
Plus all the other staff and cashier’s like Rosie are so nice; of course, it may seem slow service in the cashier’s line — but then again, so is Home Depot and Lowe’s have long lines. I think that they become nice when you try to get to know them personally.
Of course more expensive than Home Depot or Lowes but when I need someone who is knowledgeable — then I rather go to them than the box stores.
Parking is difficult but going in near the end of the day, all the contractors and their staff are gone with their big trucks, so its easy to find a parking space.

The location is great, there’s parking, and the staff not only know their stuff, but are really kind and helpful to boot.
My tiny jade, Joshua [yes, he has a name] became a victim of attempted planticide when a squirrel knocked him off my balcony. He was only in a tiny little pot, and after finding him on my ground floor, I hurriedly tried to scoop what dirt he had left into the pot, and brought him [somewhat in pieces] to Anawalt, not knowing what to do. I’m not the most schooled person when it comes to how to take care of plants, but Angel was incredibly helpful, and directed me to a McMansion pot [I didn’t realise a small pot was what kept Joshua from growing over the last 2 years] and some cactus soil, and told me exactly what I needed to do to re-​plant Joshua when I got home. I got a lot of tips that I wouldn’t have known for helping him grow to be a big, happy succulent later in life.
Thanks to Angel, Joshua is on the mend in his new digs, and I was able to solve the problem very inexpensively. THANK YOU ANAWALT!
