He calls his website My Free Self because freeing people from addiction and unhealthy relationships and returning them to an empowered sense of self-​esteem is his particular specialty.

He is a graduate of the University of Southern California, with a BA in Communication (1993), and Antioch University with an MA in Clinical Psychology (1999). In 2010, he received a Certficate in Psychoanalysis from the Los Angeles Institute for Psychoanalytic Studies in Brentwood. He has been trained to work in HIV services at the Charles Drew University of Medicine and Sciences, and the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian community services, Jeffery Goodman Special Care Clinic. He has worked with severe and persistent mentally ill populations and dual diagnosis. He is trained in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy).

He is a licensed Marriage Family Therapist in the state of California (Lic. # 40 090).
