Cycle House

Love Cycle House! Been doing it since the Hell Week last October 2015, and my daughter and I love it. Nichelle is like Tony Robbins on Cycle. Very motivating, encouraging and energetic! Aaron is awesome too, haven’t taken any others. Clean studio & bikes. We Love It! Thank you CH.

I definitely don’t spin as much as other people, but I’ve been to a good amount of spin studios (Flywheel, AuraCycle, SoulCycle, Kinetic Cycling, etc) and I think Cycle House is up there along with SoulCycle. However, Cycle House’s classes are a couple dollars cheaper than SoulCycle, especially if you buy in bundles.
I just want to first say that I LOVE the people at the front desk here. The first time I tried to find the parking lot, I got really lost and called the front desk because I thought I was going to miss the class. They stayed on the phone with me the entire time until I was at the parking lot and were so nice even though I literally was in a panic and was rambling to them on the phone hahaha
I also prefer the instructors at this location over the Santa Monica one. Nick’s playlists are my favorite and I also love Maranda’s classes because I find her the most motivational. Just be advised that Nichelle’s classes are awesome because they are KILLER. as in I was dying halfway through the class and wasn’t sure I was going to be able to pull through… but somehow did lol
–1 star because this place is still pretty expensive and there’s not many showers. Parking is only validated for 75 minutes so you basically are stuck driving home all sweaty after unless you’re willing to pay an 2 dollars for an extra 30 minutes.

I just had the best experience here so had to review these guys! I come here off and on through Class Pass and saw a class today that I thought I would just sign up for when I got there, in case I didn’t make it in time with traffic. I showed up 10 minutes before the class but Class Pass had closed the window on reserving their class. Note to self. I was so bummed and was just going to sign up for another studio somewhere else. Dougie, the instructor overheard me talking to the front desk gentleman and they comped me the class. Wow is that customer service or what? I had a great class and sweated my ass off, and will defo put Cycle House on my A-​list of spin studios now!

Went here for the first time last week and let me say they ROCK! Great high energy instructor with up temple rocking music while being pushed to my limit, which I like! Totally super cool vibe and I LOVED IT! This is now one of my favorite spin studios!

Great instructors, smart and motivated. Just more hygienic from cleaning the bikes/​sweat/​shoes.

Wow finally a studio who gets it, I knew it was gonna be great as soon as class started it was fast paced high energy and not for the beginner rider, it has the most bikes I fever seen in a spin studio and get this it was a Friday at 545 and every bike was full, I’ve never been to a studio with such high energy, I took with Aaron he was so challenging and played hip hop music, I was drenched in sweat after class, shoe rentals are free the bikes were unique and had. Great feel to them, anyway so so happy I finally found a studio who can keep up with me haha I love getting crazy in the bike! Go!

I got a 50% off pass for my birthday which was pretty cool. It was my first time taking Sarah’s class, she was awesome and super motivational in pushing the class.

Amazing workout! The facilities are clean and everyone is very welcoming and helpful. My favorite instructor is Maranda, her class is fun and inspirational. Not to mention that there is also free parking and fresh fruit available after class.

I go to Flywheel and Soulcycle as well (of course), but this place is awesome if you don’t want so much the zen or competitive vibe and just want to cycle your little heart out.
Absolutely adore Nichelle, Dougie, Hayley and Aaron — they’ll all push you to your limit while having a blast!!! The music rocks, the studio is super clean (they even have showers if you’re one of those AM overachievers), and it’s in a great area to grab a cup of coffee or walk around after, providing you’re not drenched in sweat.
Parking is so easy — across La Cienega, just make sure you have enough time to make the brief walk :).
Don’t think about going — go! You won’t regret it.

Nick has to be the best teacher out there!
He has the ability to make a changeling intense spin class go by so quickly! You are sweating, heart pounding and ready to pass out, but you feel so good when you know you have completed a 45 minute workout.

At Cycle House, incredible spin instructors are abundant. Simply put, the ladies of Cycle House are killing the game. (Disclaimer: I’m sure the instructors not discussed below are equally as amazing, but I admittedly have yet to take their classes).
I started off with Maranda’s class and was instantly hooked. Maranda’s so attentive and welcoming, and makes everyone in the room feel comfortable (or super uncomfortable, but in a really good, how-​am-​I-​sweating-​this-​much way). She does this incredible thing called «cycle therapy,» which I couldn’t adequately define in words, but you absolutely have to experience– somehow she always taps into what’s going on in my life and leaves me feeling newly motivated when I exit the room (and when I’m going ~400mph on a bike, in the room). Her playlists are epic, ranging from throwback songs you forgot you know all the lyrics to, to all the tracks you’re newly obsessed with. Maranda is truly a great instructor.
Hayley is incredible. She jokes that she has eyes in the back of her head… but… like… she has been in the opposite corner of a sold-​out room, specifically telling me how to improve my ride. Her classes are very individually catered and you know you’re making the best of your time and getting the best possible workout. In addition to teaching a million (awesome) 45 minute classes a week, Hayley also teaches CH’s longer, 1000 Calorie ride. I rarely get super sore from workouts anymore, but every time I take that class my legs burn for at least a day afterwards. Hayley’s also super funny, and somehow finds a way to take your mind off the grueling workout and leave everyone in the room smiling.
Nichelle’s class feels like being at a nightclub where everyone in the room is part of your inner circle. Her rides are really intense, but she’s so inspiring (and entertaining) that it’s not hard to see why her classes are some of the most sold-​out in LA. Somehow, Nichelle really pays attention to every rider in the room, checking everyone’s form and making sure everyone makes the best of their workout. Also, Nichelle does this really fun thing where she turns down the music for a few words of some songs, and everyone sings a random lyric, and it’s super fun and funny and keeps you on your toes. Also, also– I feel like if you want to stay ahead of the music curve, you’ll hear the next big hit in Nichelle’s class first.
I love Stephanie’s express rides. You’re in the class for 15 minutes less than usual at CH, but you leave feeling like you’ve been on a bike for hours. I don’t know how she does it– the rides are shorter, but the workout is just as extreme. But you should also stop in for her 45-​minute rides, which are awesome, too. Stephanie has an amazing memory and always has an individualized suggestion on how to improve your ride– and then, she’ll remember the note she gave you the next time you come in, and will follow up on helping you improve your ride. She also always knows exactly the right song to play, and consistently has amazing playlists.
ALSO the front desk staff, and really everyone else in the Cycle House crew are extremely welcoming and accommodating. Amazing customer service. The studio is really comfortable and inviting. The alkaline water and snacks in the lobby are a plus. If you’re looking for a great workout and a wonderful overall experience, you’ve got to check it out.

Finally got around to trying Cycle House via Classpass! I have definitely been on the ‘cycle train’ around Los Angeles with my faves being Soul Cycle (hands down the best!) & Flywheel.
It took me a while to find this location because it’s centered in a tiny little alley way on Melrose, right next to the Mac store. I found metered parking and I believe street parking is the only option.
The Studio itself is pretty tiny, it was a little awkward when I first walked in and since there is no room, they don’t exactly have the time to really welcome new comers and set them aside to show them around. Everyone is crammed in, trying to put on their spin shoes as they stand and hit elbows with the next person. They do provide free shoes and fresh towels which is always a plus!
I think the one thing I actually wasn’t super crazy about, was the actual instructor herself. I’m very much into positive living, health & wellness, self-​awareness, spiritual teachings… I just eat all that shit up. So I actually enjoy when they give motivational talks and use forms of meditation in various fitness classes. But this specific instructor was using negative talk to try and push positive reinforcement. When she’s asking us if we are losers, nothing, intimidated, lazy, etc. Even though she is trying to mentally push us; putting those negative words and energy out there in the first place, I feel really change the dynamic in the room. I didn’t see people as positive and friendly as I do in Soul Cycle. She even singled me out one time and said something along the lines of «I don’t care if you’re the slowest person in the room for the rest of this class, just go» which I was a little taken aback by. First, I definitely wasn’t the slowest lol and second, I am one of those people who does NOT operate well or get motivated by someone putting me down. I like when the instructors go around giving high fives and telling you that you’re doing great but to crank it up a notch. But again, this is purely re: this specific instructor on a Monday evening.
I will definitely go back and try someone new and a different time. Overall, in the top 3 now of my favorite spin studios in good ol’ El Lay!

Cycle House is by far the best the best spin studio I’ve ever been to. The crowd is on the younger side (20’s and 30’s) and energy is always super high.
The classes here are difficult since the instructors do much faster runs and sprints than at other studios. I was a monthly member at Flywheel for 6 months and could barely keep up my first time here! Since frequent spinning at Flywheel really bulked up my legs, I’m really loving Cycle House classes since there’s more emphasis on speed than resistance. The instructors call out resistance changes as percentages so it’s up to you to add on/​take off as much as you’d like.
All of the instructors I’ve tried were great, but my favorites have to be Aaron Albert, Aaron, and Nichelle. All three of them play lots of hip hop to keep things upbeat and interesting. I hate it when instructors play rock music in spin classes and thankfully I’ve heard none of that here.
Towel service, alkaline water, spin shoes, and parking validation (75 mins) are complimentary. Street parking on melrose is plentiful and cheap if you want to stay around longer.

Ok, to be totally honest, my friends think I’m a bit of a fitness freak. Although I beg to differ, I will admit that I’ve visited my fair share of cycling studios. With that being said, however, Cycle House is by far my fave!
Why? Well, to put it simply, it’s more workout than it is dance party. First off, parking. Thankfully the brilliant minds at Cycle House understand the hellish-​ness of the LA parking situation and have provided cyclers with a free lot on the corner of La Cienega and Melrose. Drive in, let them know you’re there for cycle house, grab your ticket, don’t forget to get it validated, and you’re all set. Easy. Breezy. Beautiful.
When it comes to the workout, there is an 8 minute late policy. In other words, don’t be late. If you’re a new rider, I’d highly suggest getting there a good 15 minutes early to get set and situated. I took a class with Aaron, and I’m usually fairly critical about workout classes – especially when it comes to spin – but everything about the class was absolutely on point! The playlist was a great mix of house, r&b, and hip hop, with strong rhythms and heavy beats. It was absolute power music that left you feeling as if you had everything in you to own your ride. Structured as a high intensity interval workout, the ride was centered around all out sprints followed by fairly active recoveries. Aaron was inspirational, but not so much so that he compromised the motivational. Leave any memories of bubbly and bouncy cycling classes behind you, because Cycle House is the real deal. There was definitely no half-​assing going on in that room… so, hide your limits as best you can, because once they locate them – and they always seem to locate them – they’ll be sure to push you beyond them.
You know how they say that change happens outside your comfort zone? Well, they actually meant that change happens at Cycle House. Try it, and see for yourself!
(PS. Shoe rentals are complementary!)

This is by far THE BEST spinning studio in Los Angeles, if not ever. Not even kidding. I’ve taken both Nick and Nichelle’s classes. Nick’s classes are fun and he is super adorable but Nichelle is THE BEST teacher ever. I’ve gone to other studios (Flywheel, Soul Cycle, Aura, Beatbike, etc) but no instructors compare to her. Her methods are intense and her music is everything. Where else can you jam out to Hov, Boosie, and 2Pac all in one class? I’ll wait…
So why the updated review? Well their bikes sorta suck. And by sorta, I mean REALLY suck. Listen, I understand the studio is small but c’mon. All of those other studios I listed above only out do Cycle House because their bikes are sleek and actually work. The last time I went to class, I attempted to raise my bike’s handlebar with no luck. I even asked one of their staff to help me and he too couldn’t get it to go up. At one point, he even took a weight and started banging up the handle bar for it to raise… and it never did.
I know you can do better, Cycle House. Especially since you guys (finally) upgraded your weights. So management PLEASE, update your bikes! This studio is too great to have these broken down ones. Thanks in advance ;)

I was struggling with I’ve had better, It was okay and I’m a fan. So I went with A-​OK! lol I’ve taken millions of spin classes and in all fairness, I’ve only taken Nichelle and Aaron, but to my understanding, they’re the main attraction at Cycle House on Melrose.
Clearly people love Cycle House (maybe because of their reality show?), which is great! Everyone there is friendly and dedicated for sure. The room is a bit small and the bikes are REALLY close. Like handle bars touching close. They could lose about 2 bikes a row, but then I realize that’s cutting into their profits, which I believe is $ 29 bucks a class if you pay per class.
As far as instruction goes, Nichelle and Aaron were great. Maybe not $ 29 dollars a class great. Hell, for $ 25 bucks you can get a one hour Thai foot massage! What I found in taking their classes is I could get the same level of instruction at Crunch Gym in West Hollywood for a $ 65 a month membership. So if you decide to try Cycle House out, you may want to go the Class Pass route.
I plan to go back and try each instructor out again. My friend who is committed to this studio swears they were both «off their A-​game» the days we went, which happens. But you always want someones A game when you’re paying those rates.
Finally, the biggest complaint I had about Cycle House in West Hollywood is the heater!!! I know everyone thinks they got a great sweat after spinning for 45 minutes there, but I can sweat on my own. I don’t need the heaters going. I don’t even need the AC. Room temperature would be great. With all the bodies in that room, it made for a very uncomfortable ride and a trainer friend of mine even said that it’s not recommended.
Anyway, that’s my review. Again, I shall return and if I find that my experience is better the third time, I will definitely upgrade this to note that! :)

Okok I know what you’re thinking «it’s only been a couple months, how can you already write another review?!».
But after trying a couple other spin classes I have to agree with others that Cycle House is seriously the best. Not just the instructors/​workouts (which are seriously always killer) but the rest of the amenities that come with it.
I am not reallly a spinner person (I go once a week max) and may end up getting a regular gym membership but I can definitely see myself purchasing spin shoes and attending a few spin classes here and there from Cycle House because it is that great.

One pretty important thing I keep forgetting to mention is that the instructors I’ve had always emphasize correct form. Being super duper green to spinning, it took me a bit to understand how my form should be and I was never quite sure if I was «spinning right» until I came to Cycle House. The instructors are always showing, describing and even walking up and correcting form. Not in a «you did a mistake» kind of way, rather «I want to teach you and I don’t want you to hurt yourself» way. Seriously makes my spinning exp that much better.

Probably the best cardio workout I’ve ever had.
I go to the gym pretty regularly; I don’t have much endurance but am pretty strong because my usual routine is pretty typical — 30 minutes of cardio, 15 – 30 minutes of weights. My fit girl friend told me this class was the shit so I had to check it out.
Parking is easy — they have a free lot on the corner of La Cienega and Melrose. It’s the first right turn headed north on La Cienega just past Melrose — they have a «public parking» sign out front.
The studio itself is small and SWEATY. From the minute you walk in, you can feel the condensation and the heat. Surprisingly not smelly though. They have free spin shoe rentals, which is pretty sweet and the staff are super friendly.
The workout itself is LEGIT. I took a class with Nishelle and all I could think the whole time was — «man, this woman is a bad ass bitch» — and in my book, that’s basically the best compliment I would ever give a woman. She motivates you, keeps your ass up, pushes you, and makes you feel great about yourself by the end of it all.
I think this is a great studio because the staff are so friendly, parking is easy, the rows of bikes are dark so you don’t have to feel self conscious when you’re red in the face and sweating your ass off (the instructor’s bike is lit so you can see), the workout is INTENSE and they have free water and shoe rentals. I’ll definitely be back and encouraging all my friends to come too.

Hands down the best cycling studio in Los Angeles. Nichelle is my favorite teacher of all time. Her energy, play list, & exercises will leave you exhausted like any good workout should.
Another thing I love about Cycle House is how coordinated the class is. The up, down, push up etc movements are almost synchronized the way the teachers have it set up. It also feels like a club or social group with the cycle house culture of clapping, cheering on, Etc.
The only reason I’m not giving this studio 5 stars is because the layout is a bit cramped & it’s not amphitheater style seating (my personal fav for cycling) & they could have better bikes compared to BeatBike. But overall, Cycle House is a great time! I can’t get enough.

First experience at Cycle House was absolutely amazing. The vibe and the high expectation in Nichelle’s ride was everything I needed and then some! Ride or Die, I did both and I am very excited!
The rhythm, the flow and the transitions between sets were perfect. Nichelle’s ability to motivate is impressive.
If you want a high intensity workout that will push you beyond your limits, great spin music and an amazing individual to get you across the finish line… Get your ass to Cycle House and take Nichelle’s class!
If the other instructors are in the same playing field with Nichelle then you can’t go wrong with CH.
Definitely will be back!

Took my first Cycle House class here yesterday with Dollar and enjoyed it — I’ve tried a few other studios in the area (Soul Cycle, Aura Cycle, Flywheel, etc), and I think I would most likely return here first over other spin studios.
+Challenging class, definitely get ready to sweat!
+Easy to pace yourself and to keep up — you’re able to adjust your own pace of course, but Dollar made it easy to increase it based on your own ability
+Friendly staff! I really liked how they called and emailed info before your first class just to make sure you’re all set to go
+Larger studio — the class I attended was half full (5:30 PM), so it was pretty comfortable and not cramped like some other spin classes I’ve taken
+A/​C in the studio! Personally not a fan of the hot yoga environment when spinning, so I can definitely appreciate this
+Free parking (75 minutes in the lot across the street!)
+Free shoe rentals (definitely a + in my book)
+Fruit to grab at the end of the class and lots of alkaline water stations :) Love this!

–Maybe it was the lights or something, but I really felt like I wasn’t completely immersed in the groove of things. I think I’m more used to the instructor on the bike the whole time, so I felt a little more self-​conscious when he was moving around the class. Just a personal preference, but I wasn’t really used to clapping during the class either. Can definitely appreciate the form adjustments and encouragements though.

Pros definitely outweigh the cons so I’ll be back for more Cycle House :)

Cycle House is a good and fun place to take indoor cycling classes.
Much has been said about the different instructors and their relative strengths and weaknesses, so I won’t bother. Instead, I’ll offer up a few tips to help you, potential Cycle House attendee, get the most out of your experience. Here goes nothing…
1. Don’t wear cotton. Man or woman, you’re going to sweat through it halfway through class. Tight and stretchy is a good guideline to follow. Guys, you don’t need to go too tight, but keep in mind that your legs are going to be spinning at a million miles an hour, so baggy basketball shorts might not be the best choice. I like to wear running shorts with compression shorts underneath and a sleeveless T-​shirt.
2. Bring a water bottle or two. The cupholders on the bikes hold 28 oz. Blender Bottles perfectly. That’s what I bring. Doesn’t seem like they’d hold anything bigger.
3. Show up early. I always have a better class if I arrive early and have enough time to set up my bike in a leisurely fashion, stretch a little bit, and loosen up on the bike.
4. Wear earplugs. This place is so goddamn loud. And the sound seems unbalanced – the highs (you know, the frequencies responsible for hearing damage and tinnitus) are especially piercing. Fortunately, they offer free foam earplugs in a little dispenser near the door. Grab a pair and jam them into your ear canals. I use them every class, but it seems like a lot of people don’t, which is insane to me – I’m all about getting my hair blown back at a festival or club, but I’d feel pretty dumb getting hearing damage from too many loud spin classes.
5. Grab all the towels you want. Cycle House makes me sweat like a whore in church, except the church is inside of a gigantic sauna. I grab a full-​size towel from the locker room to put over the handles, and then 2 or 3 hand towels to drape over my neck.
6. Eat something light 90 – 120 minutes before. Good mix of carbs and protein. Like a banana and peanut butter or something. Whatever. This is the formula that works for me – obviously this is going to be the tip with the greatest variance. Anyway, I have no solution for 6 a.m. classes because I’m not tryna wake up at 4, so I usually just do those on an empty stomach – it’s not the end of the world.
7. Don’t be shy. Class is more fun when the instructor knows your name – and can call you out when you’re slacking off. They usually pick it up after a few classes from seeing you around and checking you in, but you could shortcut this process by, you know, being a sociable human and introducing yourself.
I guess that’s about it. Some instructors are better than others, and you can probably tell who’s who by reading the other reviews. But it’s definitely worth rotating through a few before you settle on the ones you really click with. For my money, the top-​tier instructors at Cycle House are better than any other instructors in Los Angeles.

Best Energy, Best instructors, Best Music, and overall great felicity. They provide you with cycling shoes, and cold alkaline water to fill up. The restrooms are super clean, and they even have showers, lockers and towels for you!
You can count on coming out of the class drenched and glad that you took the time to go workout at Cycle House.
Parking is free for 75 minutes across the street. Make sure you get a sticker from the front desk!

I’m a Classpass user, so I’ve been to a decent share of spin classes around LA. This is up there at the top! While I wouldn’t say there’s anything special about the bikes (doesn’t show your torque, etc like flywheel), the overall experience is very upscale and spa-​like. They have fruit provided in the entrance, so you never have to worry about working out on an empty stomach and can grab another for after your ride. There’s cute seating outside if you need to relax before or after class. Spin shoes are free with class!
The class overall has a good vibe. Typically 55 minutes with a variety of music. The moves and weights make it go by pretty quick, but it is challenging (they don’t shy away from the «hills»)!
After class you can fill up your water, cool off with a cold eucalyptus towel, grab a cup of coffee from Alfred, which is right next door! Go with a friend and make a fun morning out of it.

Came here on a recent trip to LA and took Maranda’s class based on other Unilocal reviews. I was not disappointed. The studio is clean, has validated parking (although only 75 minutes so I had to pay a $ 1 because I had come too early) staff friendly and efficient. The women’s changing room is a bit tight and I couldn’t figure out how to use the lockers but then realized that there were cubbies in the spin studio. I brought my own spin shoes but you can only use Look clips which I don’t have so I used the free rental shoes which were fine. I will say that the floors are very slippery with the spin shoes on and it is only a matter of time before someone falls and cracks a bone.
The bikes are fine– I have been on better, these were relatively low tech and it took me a while to figure out how much to turn the knob to get my desired resistance but they were easy to adjust.
Maranda was great– very inspiring. I returned a few days later and even took her class again so I can not comment on other instructors. She does do quite a bit of choreography so if you don’t like «tap backs» or «jumps» it might not be the class for you. She also does not ride much but walks around the class and talks about 90% of the time– I appreciate that kind of instructor but some people do not which she points out during «cycle therapy» which other reviewers have commented on.
In short a studio is really only as good as the instructors– I would take Marandas class any where and the studio it self is nice but the flow is weird and the bikes are low tech (don’t show RPM or resistance).
If you like spin and live in WeHo give this place a try. I will come back next time I am in LA.
