History

Established in 2014.

Wesley began his career studying under LA hair veterans, Jason Lara and David Abrams, completing one of the city’s most challenging training programs, and managing two of the city’s most prominent hair salons, Luxelab, in both Bel Air and Pasadena. Working and learning alongside such hair legends as Oribe, Orlando Pita, and Nancy Braun, Wesley has honed his skills, and after years of dedication to the art of dressing hair, he has decided to bring his experience and love for the craft to the community of West Hollywood.

At the salon, located in the historic Fairfax District, Wesley will spend time giving you a thorough consultation, then make recommendations for a perfect style for you that not only looks great, but will fit your lifestyle as well, ensuring that you have all of the knowledge necessary to recreate the look after you get home.

A California native, I grew up in the Central Valley with my mother, Norma, who was also a hairdresser. After years of watching and assisting her, I decided that I too would join the world of hair dressing. After completing beauty school, I moved to Los Angeles to gain further training and advance my knowledge in the craft. After years of training, working behind the chair and also managing and teaching other stylists in two of LA’s premier salons, I have brought this knowledge and love for the craft to my home community of West Hollywood. Here, I hope to make meaningful connections and share my love for this industry with the amazing people in the community in which I live.

For the first time ever, I kind of just shut up and let the stylist do the work. After reading such good reviews, I felt like I could trust him. Glad I did, I really love my hair. He cut about 3 inches off, but it looks so much healthier, shinier, and prettier. He was also extremely patient with my many questions and my lateness and my late cancel, all for a free haircut. No doubt I will be back! So happy about my new haircut it’s unbelievable!

Wesley is my FAVORITE! I’ve gone to Wesley religiously for a few years now, and unless he moves to another country I will go to him for years to come. He cuts my man’s hair too. Wesley is extremely skilled. Every time I see him he’s telling me about a new technique in hair styling– he’s completely on top of his game. Best cut & color, and I always truly look forward to spending time with Wesley in his little studio.

Abridged experience: BOOK AN APPOINTMENT!
John came as a recommendation from a photographer friend visiting from NYC. My friend explained repeatedly that John is the only person who truly understands how to cut his hair and every time he is in LA, he tries to get time in with John.
I’ve been brunette my entire life and have been threatening to try blonde. I was initially planning to go the box route but figured let’s go all out and give this guy a try.
I’m very glad I did.
I got a color & cut and my hair looks unbelievable.
John is very knowledgable, professional and extremely personable.
I told him I’d never done this before and didn’t exactly know what I wanted. I called it «dealers choice» as he’s the artist and I’m going to trust. He explained the process of what he wanted to do, what will look good and what won’t for my head shape, hair type, hairline and skin tone.
The result is amazing. My hair feels and looks as though I was born a natural blonde. It’s not fried, stiff or burnt (just like he’d repeatedly assured me).
A close friend came with me to see if I’d actually go through with it and is now looking in to when she can book her cut and color with him.
Since I moved to LA in 2009, I’ve generally gone to Rudy’s (which I love for that cheap guy «cut on the run») but haven’t found a solid «person». The «Person» is your homie that really knows you and knows your head. That is now John for me. He didn’t rush, his attention to detail and passion for what he does sold me. He even followed up with me after the appointment with the best way to maintain my hair color and texture.
I’m a little nervous about Unilocaling /​telling friends about him because I wouldn’t mind keeping this find all to myself but I gotta support someone who does such a stellar job!

I went in to Wesley’s studio for the first time today, and it was a fantastic experience! To sum up: professional and relaxing. Wesley is definitely a master at what he does!
I went in for a trim and blow dry originally, but after looking at my hair Wesley advised that we go with a shorter cut. I was a bit reluctant, as I’ve never had short hair, but I trusted his opinion. At the end — I was impressed with how great Wesley made my hair look!
If you want to get a rocking cut or color, I would highly recommend John Wesley!

I went to John for the first time today, and I loved it! I’ve been to a few different places around LA, and I haven’t really been that pleased. John was very attentive, professional and personable. He wanted to make sure I was 100% happy with my hair when I was finished, which I was. I also really like that his studio is in a separate room… so there weren’t other people getting their hair done right next to me. It’s very intimate. I would definitely recommend going to John… his prices are reasonable, and he does a great job. I’ll definitely be back!

Being the busy working professional I am, I tend to put my highlights off until the very last minute. I usually fly to a specific salon in Marin County, but in a crunch found John Wesley on Unilocal,and couldn’t be happier with the results. I have been going to see John Wesley Studio for over 6 months now and I think I have waited a little too long to give him a review. I have moved around to multiple salons over the past 2.5 years whilst living in LA but I really feel like I have found my guy.
I have experimented and gone with different styles of cuts and colors and I’m always really happy with the result. I feel that Wesley is so genuine in his work, he gives great feedback into how to style my new cut and what we can expect to do as it grows out. He even told me he wasn’t happy with his work one time and fixed it.
I honestly feel like he puts his heart into his work. He’s also always smiling and gives off a great energy. It makes me look forward to going to see him that much more.
He’s also always really flexible with my schedule and although he creates a really fun atmosphere in the salon, he’s always really professional.
If there is one thing I think he could do better, that would be to keep his little espresso station better stocked: P

Hi guys,
I want to share with you a very true and authentic experience I had at John Wesley salon. My hair was completely dead, damaged, with no life in it, as well as being highlighted and colored (It had multiple colors in it like blonde, brown, black), basically it was a hot mess. I was so lucky, this was the first salon I called to see if he would take me in on the same day and he immediately was very positive and said yes, not only that, but he was so professional that he asked about details of what I wanted to get done so that he can prepare ahead of time to cut and color my hair. I arrived and showed him some photos of what I wanted, a longer asymmetrical bob, and ash brown hair. He did so much detailed and went through many different processes, treat the damaged hair, take out the color, add new color, then unify the color, and then cut it. I told him he is a miracle worker, because the results turned out many folds better than what I had envisioned. I am still stunned at how amazingly gorgeous his work turned out! he’s a very talented artist, and I highly recommend him. He’s also a very intelligent, polite, respectful, and in tune with exactly what you’ll want.

I asked for a style trim and John did the blonde hair works for a former runway fashion show.
I give it a thumbs up.
John Wesley pays extra attention to the individual (s) seeking to satisfy a gig or the like or simply, I gather for any occasion.
I would of loved to experience what Marilyn Monroe’s hair style would of became if fabulous John Wesley had worked on it.
Off course that was then and now is now and J.W. provides shocking positive hair style results that will keep you coming as his clientele associate.

I went into Wesley for a complete fall look. Cut, color and consultation on new products. I love everything he did for me. I told him I needed a change and he came up with the best fall look ever based on my input, the current trends and what looked best with my skin tone. I have gotten so many compliments on everything about my new hair. He showed my exactly how to style my hair myself (I’ve always struggled trying to duplicate styles when I get home and am proud to say I nailed it this morning!!) and gave me suggestions of different products to improve my hair and keep it as shiny and healthy as when I walked out of his salon. Wesley has been my hairstylist since he was in hair school around 2007 or so. I would HIGHLY recommend him to anyone. Without a doubt, go get your hair done by Wesley. Here is why:
Where to start… Not only is he a great person, genuine, friendly, great sense of humor, but he is truly amazing at what he does. Wesley doesn’t just cut and color your hair… He really knows how to pick an amazing style that will fit you and will seriously make you look better, not to add feel better about your look just by your new hairstyle.
I don’t ever tell Wesley how I want my hair, I always say «just do what you want» and I have never been disappointed. My current hair color is blonde and I will NEVER let anyone else touch my blonde hair because no one else can make it look this good and natural. I get compliments all time and I have to give all the credit to Wesley for making me look and feel amazing.
Also, his new studio space is absolutely awesome. It is cozy and inviting. It is in a great location, parking is easy.

I started having Wesley cut my hair when my previous stylist moved out of town about a year ago while he was cutting in Pasadena. Now that he’s all the way in West Hollywood, I am still willing to trek out there for him to keep cutting my hair, so that should explain how good I think he is. I am very picky about who cuts my hair since I’m an actor and business owner. He always makes great choices for me so I don’t have to think. His new space is peaceful and I can relax in the studio. It is in the big studio of a bunch of different stylists, so be sure you find his studio. Best to make an appointment so you don’t have to wait.

Wesley has been my hairstylist for about a year now. I first came to him looking for some serious help with my damaged, poorly colored hair. After one visit my hair color was significantly improved and after just one more visit the damage was well on it’s way to being fixed.
He’s continued to impress me over the past few months and visiting him yesterday in his new studio for the first time was no exception. I’m thrilled with my hair and color! His studio space is warm, inviting, clean and comfortable. I highly recommend him!

Wesley has been my hairstylist for the past 2 – 3 years now and this guy is totally amazing. He asks what his clients want and listens, offers suggestions and the end result of every haircut is perfection. He’s also skillful when it comes to hair coloring and a wizard when it comes to color correction. I was more than excited when he told me that he was opening his own studio! As far as the space is concerned, the decors and layout of the studio itself has a home-​y and cozy feel to it. It doesn’t feel like you’re seeing your hairstylist but it feels like you’re visiting that best friend you do make-​overs with. Check him out, I’m pretty sure you will be happy with his work and will come back over and over again!

I have been seeing Wesley for years for ALL of my hair needs so I am thrilled that he finally has his own space to work his magic in!
I’m in the entertainment industry and my look must be ON POINT; he has never let me down. Long hair to short, dark brown to platinum blonde and every shade of highlight and ombré in between I have ALWAYS been complimented on my hair and it’s all thanks to Wesley.

This is the cutest place ever!!! AHHHHH!!! why aren’t there a BUNCH of these everywhere!!! This is totally not like any salon you’ve ever been to. Inside are something like 80 individual spaces with hair stylists and makeup artists. Not sure if they have nails or anything else but I’m sure they do.
Wesley’s amazing!!! I came here for a fix. I naturally have almost jet black hair and like being the total opposite. I know… I’m tough. He totally fixed my ratchet yellowy orangey do. It was horrible before… I think i looked like a middle school kid that decided to bleach their hair for the first time. very upsetting. He transformed me to a beautiful natural looking blonde, I wanted it just a BIT ashier and he gave me just that. He also fixed my choppy cut that I hated. Everything was blended so beautifully after he was finished with me.
Wes really listens to you backwards and forwards and teaches you a lot of at home care and gives all the best recommendations. You won’t be dissapointed.
