Plops Cakeballs

I walked by the other day and decided to check it out. I tried 3: the red velvet with white chocolate, Oreo and strawberry. Rating the three Oreo was the best. Second was red velvet and last was strawberry though none of them were bad. All were moist, sweet and had neither the cake nor the topping as overwhelming.
I like the idea since I often want a shot of sweet but not something very large. I also see this being great for parties. I doubt I’ll come back again though because the cake balls just seems so small. I understand it but the balls are kind of pricey for the size when I could get a slice of cake for about the same price.

Stumbled upon this place after lunch at The Fresh Corn Grill nearby. Love the variety of cake balls and the décor is fun. Picked a dozen random cake balls and the only one I didn’t care for was the Strawberry Vanilla as the frosting tasted a bit artificial to me. Loved the Oreo, Butterfinger, and red velvet flavors!

I went here yesterday after having made fun of this place previously (seriously, how LA? you can’t have a piece of cake, but small balls of it? and the name — plops?). That being said, we weren’t expecting much. I’d recently fallen out of love with designer cake and cupcakes, which seem to be getting worse and worse (went to Sprinkles just the other day and it was NOT good — what happened, Sprinkles?). I got the BUTTERFINGER balls and they were amazing. We went back in and I ordered more. I’ll be going back! They tasted good — period. Now, they need to maybe put some tables in that store. Seriously, are they trying to discourage people from staying? Very strange. If they served coffee and the plops on plates, it might be a cool place to stop. They need some business consulting. Although the plops do come in professional little boxes.
If you are just trying the place out, I recommend the butterfinger and oreo ones. Excellent.

Gross. These are not cake pops. They are more like Napoleon balls or éclair balls. They have a light cake texture with tons of icing and filling. A cake pop is a dense ball of dough and icing… This is not it. It is fluffy cake with melted candy confection icing like substance on it… Big difference. Plus cake balls smelled like a sickeningly sweet box of candy. Not at all like cake… won’t be going back.

Meh. I didn’t hate it, but expected better.
I consider myself somewhat of a «dessert connoisseur» so I have high standards. I have made my own cake balls on multiple occasions, so I know how hard they are to make, but also how they are supposed to be made. These are a different soft of cake ball. Not as moist as they should be. The flavor choices are great, I just expected a little better.

With all the dessert fad, this seem well just faded. So 2 years ago?
The staff was friendly and I like the overall glaring white décor. I had flashbacks of when I had to do a cake tasting for my wedding.
It’s okay. I would’ve wished that they their flavor were a bit more inventive than something you can whip up at home. Possibly tea flavored cake w/​lavender icing? Just throwing it out there. Or something that has a salty edge to it.
They just changed the cake to have a bavarian cream center. I wasn’t a big fan as the whole cake themselves is sweet enough. The staff told us that they had a huge request for the cream center.
Again, it’s okay. But I’ll pass next time and save the calories.

I’m actually not particularly a big fan of cakeballs but these weren’t half bad. I have to say the dark chocolate red velvet was rather tasty but the green tea one lacked. well it lacked green tea flavoring.
Other then that, it’s a pretty neat and clean place. Sort of trendy looking. But that’s pretty much it. I’ll probably make a stop by again if I’m ever in the area.

I hate to add fuel to this fuego, but this is not a cakepop store, it is just balls of cake. There is a huge difference. So like if you want to eat cake that is super dry and ball form with a candy shell, then this place is for you.
My friend and I were in the mood for just a bite of cake, enter Plopz. I mean besides the vast imagery of dropping the kids of at the pool, the décor was super on point and the marketing was delicious. BUT the place was tumbleweeds deserted. What is going on here? My friend and I queried. I mean how can this gorgeous bakeshop be empty on high time in the middle of West Hollywood on a Saturday. RIDDLE me THAT!
Well, riddle solved. They suck. How unfortunate because the rest of the marketing and service are totally on point which makes their suckage even more devastating. They need to just get better at making cake and then this place will be a huge success.

Cute place! The cake balls were yummy, but definitely not the best I’ve had. They were a little too dry for me. The cake balls were also pretty pricey. It’s a nice place to come to every once in a while!

I expected much much more of this place. With the recent hype of cake balls/​pops I would expect a hip looking cool shop in the middle of West Hollywood would have the freshest, most moist cake balls in town. I was mistaken, although they tasted pretty alright, the candy shell was pretty dry, and the cake inside wasn’t moist at all! It actually crumbled apart in my mouth! Anyways, I’m gonna give this spot 2 stars for alright taste and effort.

Not sure what the other reviewers had, but our cake balls were moist and delicious. We made a bulk order of 18 dozen for our company holiday party’s favors and all of our employees were very pleased.
They offered us bulk pricing which really helped with our budget — could not find cheaper cake balls anywhere else.
Only thing that might have made it better was if they offered Vegan ones as well. We had to go through a different, much more expensive vendor so that we could offer our few Vegan guests comparable favors.
Their parking lot in the front is very difficult to get in/​out of. Take another reviewers advice and park in the back — I wish I had.

These are not traditional cake balls, and definitely not as good as traditional moist cake balls, but they’re still very good.
They look great, and they offer a ton of different flavors (which are essentially just different frosting sand coverings). We ordered a cake of cake balls for a holiday party and the guests loved them. We only had a few left over at the end of the night.
I wish they had cheaper prices, especially when ordering in bulk. It seems that it would be an easier and cheaper process to produce these kind of cake balls compared to the traditional cake balls.

That cake ball is perfect for me. I like chocolate and I don’t like too sweet. Chocolate cover cake !!! Whoever thought about it genius !!! Love it!!!

It almost pains me to give Plops two stars. Walking in, it’s so cute and simple — white, with wall graphics, glass cases, and adorable cakeballs. Customer service was great as well, they didn’t mind us taking multiple pictures and asking tons of questions about flavors. Unfortunately, the cakeballs just don’t live up to their looks. I blame the invention of the cakeball pan, THOSE ARE NOT CAKEBALLS THEY ARE MERELY BALLS OF CAKE!
I was hoping for the original type of cakeball, which is crumbled cake mixed with frosting and formed into balls then coated in chocolate. Plops Cakeballs are basically coated balls of cake so they’re pretty dry and all the flavor seemed to be held in the chocolate coating. It would be so much better if Plops decided to incorporate frosting into their cakeballs so they can not only look cute but taste good too.

I like cake. I like balls (you all are so judgmental). The name… not so much. It sounds like poop — just saying.
There’s a laughably small excuse for a parking lot directly storefront; skip it and there’s more parking out back if you hang a righty tighty on Huntley. You can’t miss it and if you do, don’t blame me.
It was empty when I walked in, which saddens me because that means cakeballmania hasn’t caught on yet. Don’t worry — your time will come. The store looks great with its minimalist, simple design. The displays were impeccable and the dude working the balling of cake had them all presented in symmetry and in grid-​like fashion — patterns excite me. He was a nice enough chap; selection was simple with info cards in front of the balled batter bites and they plop your delights in a cute box with individual partitions as to not contaminate the pastry perfection. The price was right with each plop being less than $ 1. I picked up a dozen upon my visit.
They’re really nothing more than glorified frosted donut holes — the main difference being these are baked, not fried. The taste is lightly sweet and not in your face rich, a welcome departure from what I was expecting. The baked batter was moist and the frosting added the finishing touch on the flavours I selected. My favorites: coconut frosted with shavings and vanilla batter, then the mint choco frosted with choco centers. Surprisingly, my least fav was the red velvet assortment — both dark and white chocolate. The flavouring was a bit too subtle to work with red velvet, as red velvet when done well is fairly rich and luscious (and counters what my initial reaction was to the feather-​light depth of flavour). Oh well — my only real suggestion would be to up the intensity on the red velvet, or just ditch it as it was a waste and a letdown as the recipe currently stands.
I ate 6 in one night — that should probably give you a hint on if I’m gonna make my way back here.

So underwhelming.
When you walk inside the shop the presentation is great. Hence the 2 stars for artistic ability.
But the «cake balls» as they call them taste nothing like cake. In fact they taste like nothing at all. Just dry, bland and overpriced.
But I’m the idiot — why would I think something called a «plop» would be good anyway?

Stumbled upon Plops as I was walking my dog one day, and being the sugar addict that I am, decided to stop for just a little taste.
The shop looks teeny from the street but is fairly large inside with a glass covered counter lined with at least 6 – 10 different cake ball flavors. The guy working the counter was so enthusiastic and gave me several samples as I browsed the case so I ended up buying a few of the cake cones (can’t remember what they’re called, but a cake ball inside an ice cream cone). Adorable concept and the perfect size for a sugar craving fix.
The cake balls are moist, sweet and the small size doesn’t leave you feeling guilty afterwards.
If you love cake, adore anything bite-​sized and sick of waiting in line at Sprinkles then give this place a try!

Moist little cake balls covered in chocolate in a variety of flavors. Parking is a pain along Santa Monica Blvd. I bought a six pack for $ 5.95. Cute idea and loved the variety of flavors. Plus they have me a free sample which I appreciated!

If you often find yourself bored halfway through your dessert, then come to Plops. Terrible name, really, but great idea. I came here and ordered a dozen «plops.» They have a variety of cake/​frosting flavors so it is fun to be a little adventurous and try something new. If you love it, you know what to buy more of next time. If you hate it, it’s only two bites! I cannot say I disliked any of the cakes, but the almond was my favorite.
Friendly, helpful staff and great prices.

I finally stopped in today for a mid day treat. The store is very modern, simple, and clean. All the cake balls look similar to truffles. but taste like a light pound cake (don’t expect über moist) covered in a thin layer of icing. I tried red velvet/​white chocolate, blueberry, and chocolate. No complaints here, best of all these cake balls aren’t overly sweet like the ones at Bristol farms. They satisfied my sweet tooth and I love that they are small so you don’t feel guilty after eating a few. Definitely going to go back to place a large order the next time I have to take something to a party. they’re the perfect treats that are easy to eat. without the mess.(like cupcakes)
Pricing is very reasonable too.

Plops rocks! This is the perfect light treat AND a great ‘bring it with you as an offering to a party’ treat. The taste is great, the presentation is perfect and the owner, Scott, is a brilliant fit for the neighborhood, he really cares about the customer experience and it shows…
Do yourself a favor a go to Plops… and do the neighborhood a favor and spread the word!
