Comfy seats, gourmet snacks. It’s such a good experience all around. Anddd, the shopping center is great so when you arrive or leave, there’s plenty of restaurants or shops to go into (cb2, Veggie Grill, Starbucks, Wokano, Malibu fish grill…)

Having to downgrade my review of Sundance Sunset Cinemas. Why? Because of their carelessness with their customers.
For weeks I have been looking forward to a specific film to opening at the Sundance. Why? It’s a lovely place to see a movie, and it’s less than two blocks from my house. The COMING SOON AT THE SUNDANCE widget on the webpage has been announcing the January 29 opening of this film for weeks.
So imagine my chagrin when I fired up my movie times app today and the movie in question was NOT showing. I looked back at the COMING SOON AT THE SUNSET page and yep, it still cheerfully promised my movie would be opening today.
I got the theater on the phone and got the following explanation: «Yeah… they told us to play Spotlight instead. Yeah. I guess we should take the Coming Soon announcement off of the webpage.» The tone of voice was very much the vocal equivalent of a shrug.
So, let’s be clear. It wasn’t because they COULDN’T get the film (I specifically asked about that) they had promised for weeks. It’s because they, you know, decided, kind of, just to sort of, NOT get it. And then neglected to remove the now incorrect information on their website.
Teaching your loyal customers to not trust your Coming Soon widget? Not a good way to build business. Glad I hadn’t bought an advanced ticket.

This theatre is so lovely.
Tickets are a bit more expensive, but it’s clean and warm and the concessions are way better than the nachos with fake cheese you get at a regular theatre. Plus there is a bar and you can even get bottles of wine.
This would be a great spot for a date.
To the people who sit in the theatre tho– you get no stars. PICK UP YOUR TRASH! Is it REALLY that hard to take it in on your way out?! Zeesh. This drives me crazy no matter what theatre!

The theater, albeit a bit expensive, is tolerable in dramatic comparison to their complex’ parking service, which is atrocious to say the least.
Although the there is absolutely no signage to indicate that if you happen to stop by one of the restaurants on the premise, before going into the movie theater, and validate there (say Starbucks, for a quick coffee), then after seeing a film, you will not be allowed to validate your parking at the movie theater which would entitle you to a longer stay, and would therefore be charged a very high premium upon exiting. The parking ended up costing more than the movie experience.
It’s extremely disappointing.

This is without question the best movie theater in Los Angeles. You can enjoy wine with your movie from the comfort (yes I said comfort!) of your extra roomy seat. It’s never a crowded mosh pit of families because of the adults only status and the selection of movies are top notch. This is a movie theater for elitists and I’m all for it!

I went to see Sicario here. I’m totally in love with the place. Not sure how I’d feel about going anywhere else now. The great part is that it’s 21 & over so you don’t have to deal with the usual immature crowd in most theatres.
I love the the variety of food available here. Crazy part is that the prices are comparable to food at any other theatre. Definitely that a look at the menu so you can make a very important decision… what will you be eating while watching the movie.
The prices for movie tickets and food are very fair. Especially for the level of service provided. All the staff are well dressed. You’d think you were in a bank.
Terrible parking. During the evening it can take as long as 15 – 30 minutes to find a spot in that garage. It’s almost not worth it sometimes. I’m guessing most of the foot traffic is for those shopping at trader joes.

One of the best theaters in Los Angeles! Or anywhere else.
Wine, beer, great food, attentive ushers, super clean, spectacularly oversized seats, great projection, well-​sized screens (for the smaller sized theaters) and excellent sound. This is the epitome of a high end art house movie theater, and never feels stuffy.
Honestly, my only complaint is that the Exit signs in the theaters are a tad bright and too prominent in a pitch black theater… To the point where, when a movie cuts to black, it’s a bit distracting.
…Yeah, their concern with public safety is my only complaint.
5 stars. This place has a happy moviegoer for life.

Undoubtedly a unique cinema experience in Los Angeles. This theater doesn’t feel like a theater due to the age restrictions. The upscale bar and high-​quality food service add to atmosphere of «serious moviegoing.»
This isn’t a bad thing, considering the issues in other local theaters with talking and cell phone use. Still, this place definitely has a particular attitude about it. Visit and you’ll see what I mean.
As a theater itself, it offers limited-​run films and has nice picture and sound quality.

I went to this theater last night for the first time since it reopened and wow — really enjoyed it! Tickets and concessions are a little pricey, but the theater is high-​quality and you get what you pay for. Seats are cushy, they have booze, it’s really clean and of course the movie selection is a nice remix of what you’d see at other theaters in LA.
Even if it’s not your movie spot, I recommend coming here to check out the artsy, limited release film you know you’re jonesing to see.
PS — Free 3 hour parking validation, so have fun navigating that cluster of a parking lot.

This is my favorite movie theater. They’ve got it all… indie movies, cheap nights (Tuesday’s are $ 6 admissions!), delicious popcorn, comfy seats, a lounge are, and a good beer selection.
I always come with my boyfriend, but we always mention while we’re there that it is the perfect date spot. There are so many little intimate lounge areas throughout the theater, and you can drink, and get to know somebody, instead of just solely watching a movie. Whether your taking somebody out for the first time, or you’re married, this place is super chill, and romantic at the same time.
Highly recommend for anyone in LA, worth a commute, because it’s right on sunset of you wanna check other stuff out before or after the movie too.

One of my favorite movie theaters in LA. Located in the former site of the Laemmle Sunset 5, Sunset came in and renovated the place beautifully. Seats are comfortable leather couches, the movie selection is nice collection of indies (though they’ve kept Mr. Holmes around for the oldies for a bit too long at this point), and good craft beers on tap from the concession stand. A knowledgeable and really nice staff, very cool classic posters on the wall, and a strange but chilled out lounge on the second floor above the lobby.
What else do you want from a theater? How about free parking in the lot even though it’s the Sunset Strip.
This place rules.

I was looking forward to a nice afternoon at the movies. Then I ordered popcorn and a glass of wine at the concession stand. When asked which wine, I replied, Whichever goes well with Popcorn As I had my first sip, handing over my credit card, I heard, That will be $ 35.
After trying to stop feeling stupid and completely taken advantage of, I left my purchase at the register, and walked home before my movie began. All my happiness expunged, thanks to greed.

One of my favorite theaters! I think it’s such a treat to get to sit down and enjoy a documentary, random indie or foreign film here, plus sometimes they do even get a few of the big studio hits as well.
They offer a lot of the amenities of other luxury theaters such as Arclight or AMC dine-​in theaters, like good wine & craft beer, good food options, spacious reserved (coupled) seating… and they do all this without the crazy $ 18-​$ 20 per ticket price that other theaters charge.
Love their «Student of Life» Tuesday deal when tickets are only $ 6 all day and all night long! Such a steal, especially when you take advantage of their 3-​hour free validated parking.

Every time I go to the movies I get that song from ‘Annie’ in my head, «Let’s go to the movies…» Now I can’t get it out of my head. Why have I never been here before? This theater is so cute. I never before put two and two together that they mainly play indie movies; hence the «Sundance» connection, but they have all kinds.
Make sure to come on a Tuesday and only pay $ 6 admission, but you can’t get that deal online; you have to show up and buy your ticket at the box office for the special pricing. This fare applies to all movies on Tuesday nights.
All movies are also 21 plus. That doesn’t mean that they are showing hard core porn only, but it does mean you wont have some A-​hole bring their screaming children to a movie that they have no business watching. The 21 plus also means they serve alcohol, you can even get an entire bottle of wine. I have not tried this out, but it’s a nice option.
In fact, the entire concession stand is pretty impressive. It’s more like a café than a movie theater. So, watch out popcorn and snow caps, here you can still get your favorite movie theater fare, but you can also get tator tots, sandwiches, quesadillas, and desserts. Not to mention cappuccinos, tea, and a variety of beer.
Enough of the food, the actual seats are comfy and spacious and the theater wasn’t too big and overwhelming. I saw «Love & Mercy» here, that movie with John Cusak about The Beach Boys and it was amazing.
Plus, parking with validation is FREE for 3 hours.

I like Sunset 5 a lot. It’s a theater where mostly independent films are featured. They conveniently assign seats in the same fashion as an Archlight Theater so once you buy a ticket, you know exactly where you’re going to be sitting in advance which makes movie-​going a nicer experience I feel.
Food and beverages are served here, including alcohol. The beer and wine menu is quite extensive which was a pleasant surprise and the food menu had real food in addition to the regular junk food normally found at a movie theater. When I went to see Whiplash here a few months ago, I was treated to an pale ale if I recall and also noshed on a Mediterranean chicken pita sandwich which surprisingly was rather good for a movie theater. In the theater by our seats, they had side tables where we were able to set our beers and food conveniently alleviating concerns about spilling things in your lap as you watch the movie in the dark.
Seats are plush and comfortable and the screens are large so you get a good experience here. 3 hours of free parking is also available with validation. I’d definitely go back again if there’s a movie that I’m interested in seeing. Two thumbs up!

Recently saw WHIPLASH here. I used to go to this theater all the time when it was Laemmle’s Sunset 5. They’ve made a lot of changes, all of them for the better. The décor is fantastic. They changed the box office and upgraded the seats from those painful butt crushers they used to have. They also offer café foods as opposed to just popcorn and milk duds.
I’m pleasantly surprised by this place and will hopefully make it back to see FOXCATCHER.

I really like this place, it’s a nice alternative to Landmark & Arclight. You can reserve seats ahead of time. There are only two machines to pick up your tickets, so do that online before you show up. When you get your tickets, they will card you at the entrance no matter what your age, so dont waste your money trying to sneak in.
Bonus points for interesting food options at reasonable prices. However, the corn dogs and tots weren’t fantastic. It’s my first time so perhaps I’ll just chock it up to an off morning… but maybe I’ll just go for the bacon sandwich and an order of cannolis… because they offer mothereffing cannoli.
Also If you do order, give yourself PLENTY of time for them to prepare your pizza/​tots/​whatever you end up ordering. It was empty today and it took 10 – 15 for our food with no one else in line. Just a heads up if you’re hoping to skip in right before the movie starts and are thinking about ordering kitchen food.
I love it inside. There are tables between seats! Plenty of legroom so you dont have to get up if someone passes by, and the seats in front are lowered and staggered a tall person or someone with big hair wont be blocking your view!
They offer validation, which gets you free 3 hours in the lot.

There really is nothing like having a beer in a movie theater.
The bar had a number of delicious brews on tap, and the food looked good though I did not order any. The servers were pretty stingy with the wine though. The seats were comfortable and everyone gets a small side-​table instead of an armrest on one side. Parking beneath the theater was convenient and free with validation.
The temperature was decent.

I drive past this every day and always thought it was some dinky second rate theater (don’t know why, think it’s the dated signage), but it’s just as nice (if not nicer!) than an Arclight on the inside. At $ 15 ($ 12 plus a $ 3 «amenity» fee) it costs as much as an Arclight, too. The $ 5 Tuesdays are a steal, but I’ve never been and it sounds like the line gets pretty long (understandably).
Pros:
21+ theater so no kiddies running around or talking during the movie
Reserved seating, with tables between every 2 seats
Specialty beers and wine, and they give you real glasses to use
Gourmet snacks
Free parking (3 hours validated)
Independent Films that you can’t see elsewhere (we watched CitizenFour) — draws a more respectful audience, serious about watching the film (no talking, no cell phones ringing)

Small theaters = small screens
Average comfort seats
Parking lot can be hard to navigate
All in all a great experience, that made me feel okay about the expensive pricing. I’ll definitely go back!
