The Crescent at West Hollywood

I can only warn everyone to apply there. You pay a $ 1,000 deposit along WITH the application (!!) which — regardless of what they may tell you at the beginning — you will not get back if you end up deciding that you do not want to sign a contract with them — for whatever reason. This amount is independent of the actual deposit, which may be up to several thousand on top.
There much nicer, friendlier and even more affordable apartment complexes in the area. Don’t risk losing your hard-​earned $$ at the «Crescent». I usually do not write reviews, but my experience with this property and its staff have been incredibly bad. Having lived in many countries and many therefore many different apartments, I have never had any issues anywhere I’ve stayed. I found «The Crescent» to be by far the dodgiest and least accommodating one that ended up costing me a lot of money.

I have lived at the Crescent for over 2 years. The building is like an oasis at a busy intersection in West Hollywood. It is walking distance to many restaurants and shops. The units are recently remodeled and look great! The grounds are always well-​maintained and clean. The maintenance staff is prompt and very friendly. If they can’t fix my issue that day, they always have an explanation. Much appreciated! The management and office staff seem to change frequently but the current staff is helpful and friendly.

A week ago my friend and I met up at The Crescent in Hollywood for a possible lease. The building looks beautiful and as we went on a tour everything looked good. Michael helped me and my friend with the few doubts we had (mainly my friend since he’s the one interested in leasing at The Crescent in Hollywood). Overall our experience was great. The Crescent is a trendy building with fantastic front office staff, but some serious drawbacks that make it ultimately not worth the very high price.
If you visit you’ll get lots of hype about all the activities by the pool. What you’ll get is an occasional slice of pizza or cupcake dispensed while an old movie is projected on the side wall. The in-​unit washer/​dryer combo looks great, until you realize that it takes 4 hours to do one tiny load of laundry and everything comes out so wrinkled that the machine is almost useless. You’ll wind up using the laundry room downstairs, which much of the time is quite dirty. Much better to find an apartment with a stackable washer/​dryer.
The biggest problem, however, is noise. This being a trendy ‘scene’ building, there are many parties by the pool. Often these are very loud. The pool area stays open until 10pm so you can face very disruptive noise until then. It’s annoying at times. If you need some quiet during the day especially on the weekend, forget it!
The staff in the front office are consistently friendly and helpful. Repair requests are responded to immediately.
The Crescent charges a huge rent premium over similar high-​end apartments in the area. You will pay at least $ 500 per month more than you would for an equally nice unit nearby if you do a bit more research.

I have lived at The Crescent for 1 year now. When I first inquired about getting a place at The Crescent, I was greeted by extremely friendly staff– they were all incredibly eager to rent me a place. Fooled by the trendy décor, free snacks in the leasing office, and promise of a «community style» living experience, I signed a 1-​year agreement to live at The Crescent.
The units are highly upgraded with new stainless steel appliances, a wine refrigerator, and even a dry bar! The flooring looks like hardwood floor, but I believe it to be something like linoleum. The units even come with a «European-​design» washer/​dryer.
While all of this sounds AMAZING (and much of it is very nice), there are MANY drawbacks, which I will begin listing.
1) The building is old, the walls are thin, and there is very little noise insulation both from neighboring units (above, below, and aside). Good luck if your unit edges on a hallway. You can be sure that around 2−3AM the drunk people will be screaming and yelling, and you’ll be sure to hear them.
2) The hardwood floors are nice, but given that its an older building and it wasn’t built with the intention of having hardwood floors, you can hear each and every step of the people living above you. Good luck if they’re wearing heals.
3) If people are inconsiderate (and from my experience, they are), they will likely turn their washer/​dryer on in the middle of the night.
4) This reminds me– the «Euro design» washer/​dryer that they use as a selling point is a scam. While it only takes about an hour to wash a load, to dry one takes 4 – 5 hours (not including the cool-​down period. If you don’t believe me, research it.
5) My unit faced the pool, which was supposed to be a bonus. If you’re like me and usually enjoy having your windows open, you’ll likely rip your ears off after the first week of doing so. They want to create a trendy, young, fun atmosphere, and they believe they can accomplish this by blasting top-​40 music down by the pool. As odd as this sounds, I actually miss hearing birds chirp.
6) My unit is right above the gym. While that’s great because it’s one less neighbor to think about, the building keeps the gym open until midnight. If someone is on the treadmill, it causes the entire unit to shake and vibrate. The Crescent also plays music in the gym, which keeps me awake night after night. I have complained several times and asked them to turn the music down, and even had a manager come up and listen to the noise level. While the manager agreed that it was too loud, they insisted that this was The Crescent policy. They did, however, feel sorry for me so they turned it down for about a week. That was the best sleep I ever got in the year I lived at The Crescent.
If you’re thinking about moving here– think twice. It’s really not worth the price. All the things they sell you on are just gimmicks.
